Ever feel like you've messed up so badly there's no coming back? John Mark's story will change your perspective. This young disciple abandoned Paul and Barnabas mid-mission, causing a split between two great church leaders. He probably thought his ministry was over before it began. But here's the beautiful truth: our God specializes in second chances. The same Mark who failed became the author of one of the four Gospels, recording Peter's memories of Jesus. And years later, Paul—the very man who once rejected him—wrote from prison: "Get Mark and bring him with you because he is helpful to me in my ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11).

In this episode, Mark Langley reveals the core issue behind common behaviours like pulling back at the float or a reluctance to go forward. Calling out to their mates as you are trying to load them makes it harder. You'll discover why, without a solid foundation in leading, no amount of pressure or tricks will truly fix the problem—and how to build that foundation from scratch. Mark shares specific practical strategies for transforming hesitant horses into willing partners. If you've ever felt stuck with a horse that refuses to load, pull back on the trailer, or seem emotionally shut down and not wanting to move forward on the ground or under saddle, this episode is your roadmap to understanding the deeper causes and fixing them at their root. Also, when a vet prescribes lunging for rehabilitation but your horse won't stay out on the circle or falls in or needs the lunge whip to complete it - what can you do? Morning Prayer with Pastor Sean Pinder

Have you ever experienced a split — in a friendship, a ministry, a church, a partnership — that felt like it destroyed everything? Like the relationship that ended took your purpose with it? I want you to stop right now and receive this truth — because what happened between Paul and Barnabas was not the enemy winning. It was God working through a painful moment to accomplish something neither man could see at the time.Paul and Barnabas had traveled together, planted churches together, survived stonings together, and stood before councils together. They were the greatest ministry partnership in the New Testament. And then —"Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. Paul chose Silas, and the believers entrusted him to the Lord's grace." — Acts 15:39-40 (NLT)Let these words resonate within your heart today. The Greek word used for their disagreement is paroxysmos — from which we get the word paroxysm. This was not a mild difference of opinion. It was a violent, painful, sharp contention between two men who loved God and loved ministry. Take comfort in this — the fact that your split was painful does not mean it was wrong. Sometimes God allows a sharp separation to produce something that togetherness could not.The disagreement was over John Mark — who had abandoned them on the first missionary journey and turned back at Pamphylia. Paul said he was unreliable. Barnabas — the Son of Encouragement — refused to give up on him. Both men were right. And God used the tension between their two perspectives to create two missionary teams instead of one. The split doubled the coverage. And as for John Mark — the man at the center of the conflict — he went with Barnabas, was restored and developed, and years later Paul himself wrote —"Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry." — 2 Timothy 4:11 (NLT)Understand this — the man Paul refused to take on a second journey became one of his most valued ministers by the end of his life. The split that looked like an ending was the beginning of John Mark's full restoration. What God used to separate two apostles, He also used to save one abandoned disciple.May this powerful teaching from Acts 15:36-41 fill your heart with the perspective to trust God in every painful split — knowing that what looks like an ending in your hands is a new beginning in His. In this conversation, Mark explains that "we often build our lives on things we are certain about that simply are not true." He describes how "we don't actually see the world… we see screens of how we think the world is." He explains that these screens create "a double paradox" shaping what we think is safe, what we think is risky, and how we choose to act. Mark describes the difference between someone who sees a large employer as stability versus an entrepreneur who sees it as danger, saying "which screen is right? Well, it depends on which screen is going to give you more power in life." He talks about choosing the entrepreneurial screen because "I detested the idea of being a piece of a cog in a major machine." He explains how a "victim type screen" once took over his thinking when he was diagnosed with osteonecrosis: "I was catastrophizing… I went into a very negative spiral." He recalls seeing children receiving chemotherapy and realizing "Mark, you are really self-absorbed… You don't get to live a life without pain and challenge." That shift, "Why me?" to "Why not me?", transformed everything for him. Mark also talks about the mindset required to reinvent yourself: "No matter what I succeeded in in the past entitles me to win in the future." He shares that he must "redo it every three years or reimagine it and transform it," because "if I'm not transforming my business, other people are going to be working to transform my business out of it." He discusses fear and avoidance: "You can be afraid of having the conversation… but what you cannot do is ignore it." He explains how ignoring problems is the beginning of decline. Mark then explores how his business model evolved when he realized that people with millions of dollars were still "miserable, always afraid… always complaining" while others with far less were happy. This led him to see that money alone is not the source of well-being. He dismantles the three ideas he was taught early in his career: "stock picking," "market timing," and "track record investing", calling them "completely bankrupt." He explains that "the market is very efficient, very random," and that "stock picking, market timing and track record investing didn't work." Mark describes how identity and mission changed for him over time, how screens shape action, and how transformation requires confronting fear, discarding false certainty, and letting go of entitlement. He closes by saying he hopes never to retire because "stopping is one of the worst things you can do for your future." He explains that purpose, planning, and creating are what allow people to thrive. Welcome to this episode of the “Prison Pulpit” on the China Compass podcast on the Fight Laugh Feast network! I'm your China travel guide, Missionary Ben, recording today from the foot of Mt. Ida in Turkey! Since I’m still in Turkey today, and just down the road from the ancient port of Troas, which we visited yesterday, I want to meditate once more on some of Paul's words from prison, especially his words to Timothy in 2nd Timothy, his final letter in the New Testament: 2 Timothy 1:2-12, 15-18: To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. [3] I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. [4] As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. [5] I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. [6] For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, [7] for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. [8] Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, [9] who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, [10] and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, [11] for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, [12] which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. . . [15] You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. [16] May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, [17] but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me— [18] may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day!—and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus. 2 Timothy 2:3-10: [3] Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. [4] No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. [5] An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. [6] It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. [7] Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. [8] Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, [9] for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! [10] Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 2 Timothy 3:10-13: [10] You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, [11] my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. [12] Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, [13] while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 2 Timothy 4:6-18: [6] For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. [7] I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. [8] Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. [9] Do your best to come to me soon. [10] For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. [11] Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. [12] Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. [13] When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. [14] Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. [15] Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. [16] At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! [17] But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. [18] The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Message by Pastor Doug Bunnell, recorded live November 2, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham. Scripture read by John Freal.Finish WellPaul ran well and finished well and he did it by asking for help. What does Paul mean by “being poured out like a drink offering”?What emotions or attitudes do you see in Paul as he reflects on his life and ministry? What is “the crown of righteousness” Paul mentions in verse 8?What does this section tell us about early Christian communities and relationships? If you knew your time was short, what would you want to say to those closest to you about your faith?2 Timothy 4:6-226 As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. 8 From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.9 Do your best to come to me soon, 10 for Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me in ministry. 12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will pay him back for his deeds. 15 You also must beware of him, for he strongly opposed our message.16 At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and save me for his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.19 Greet Prisca and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained in Corinth; Trophimus I left ill in Miletus. 21 Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends greetings to you, as do Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers and sisters.22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. 12 Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. 15 Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. 16 At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. 19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus, who was ill, at Miletus. 21 Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends greetings to you, as do Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers. 22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

The Strategy Skills Podcast: Management Consulting | Strategy, Operations & Implementation | Critical Thinking

What if the financial advice you trust is actually hurting your future? Mark Matson believes it is, and he has the data to prove it.   In this episode, I sit down with Mark Matson, founder of Matson Money and a pioneer in the evidence-based investing movement. With over $10 billion in assets under management, Mark has helped thousands of families and advisors break free from Wall Street myths, media-driven panic, and the illusion of market timing.   But Mark didn't start in finance. In fact, he nearly gave up on the entire industry — until a few key realizations (and one powerful idea from a Nobel Laureate) reshaped his approach to wealth entirely.   We talk about: The dangerous psychology behind most investing decisions and how to fix it Why traditional financial advice often fails to deliver real value What Wall Street doesn't want you to understand about your money The importance of storytelling in transforming investor behavior Why “doing nothing” is sometimes the smartest move in volatile markets   Mark also shares how he trains financial advisors to become coaches — not salespeople — and why aligning your portfolio with purpose is key to long-term success.   Whether you're an investor, advisor, or entrepreneur, this conversation will change how you think about money — and what it really means to grow wealth with integrity and intention.   Mark Matson is an American entrepreneur, author, and innovator in the fields of investing science and financial education. He is the creator of educational experiences, platforms, and tools that make Nobel Prize winning investing research accessible to investors and transform their relationship to money. Most notably, he is the creator of The American Dream Experience and the Matson Method.   Get Mark's book here: https://rb.gy/h4brr0 Experiencing The American Dream: How to Invest Your Time, Energy, and Money to Create an Extraordinary Life   Here are some free gifts for you: Overall Approach Used in Well-Managed Strategy Studies free download: www.firmsconsulting.com/OverallApproach   McKinsey & BCG winning resume free download: www.firmsconsulting.com/resumepdf   Enjoying this episode? Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

A hardworking clerk, Erin always did her job well. But after she was accused of dishonesty, Erin was put on leave while being investigated. She felt like quitting in protest but was advised to wait it out. “Leaving suggests you’re guilty,” she was told. So Erin stayed, praying for God to give her justice. Sure enough, months later, she was cleared. John Mark may have felt the same when Paul dropped him from the mission team. To be sure, the young man had left them earlier (Acts 15:37-38). But perhaps he had regretted this and was hoping to be included this time. He must have felt unfairly judged by Paul; only Barnabas believed in him. Years later, Paul would change his mind. “Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry,” he said (2 Timothy 4:11). John Mark must have been relieved to have his reputation restored. When we’re unfairly judged, may we remember that Jesus understands how we feel: He Himself was judged a sinner though He wasn’t, and He was treated worse than a common criminal though He was the Son of God. But He continued to do His Father’s will, knowing that He would be vindicated and shown to be righteous. If you’ve been unfairly judged, don’t give up: God knows and will act in His time.

In a conversation with Sabrina, Mark Manson shares insights on navigating relationships from the perspective of an avoidantly attached individual. Drawing from his 12-year marriage, Mark emphasizes the importance of open communication and realistic expectations, especially in long-distance relationships. He advises having clear end goals and intentional conversations about logistics and contact frequency to maintain connection.  Diving into Mark's own avoidant tendencies, he and Sabrina explain how avoidance often stems from fear rather than lack of care or feelings. Mark highlights the significance of allowing space in relationships and how his wife's patience helped him transition from avoidant to secure attachment. For anxious partners, they stress the need to become comfortable with an avoidant partner's need for space, noting that healing happens through gradual trust-building.  Sabrina and Mark agree that understanding different standards and managing expectations are crucial for relationship success. Mark also touches on societal pressures, self-improvement, and the importance of addressing negative self-talk through journaling and mindfulness. Ultimately, they emphasize that thriving in life and love is about embracing challenges and fostering meaningful connections through honesty and self-awareness. Two divine guests this week as Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci join Simon to discuss ‘Conclave', the papal political thriller from ‘All Quiet on the Western Front' director Edward Berger. Set in the Vatican's pontific conclave, where cardinals are sequestered during the selection of the new Pope, the film follows the taut power struggle as these men of the cloth vie for the Catholic Church's top job. The pair talk faith and doubt, Isabella Rossellini, and whether those robes can possibly be comfortable??? We find out whether Mark thought the film was a spiritual experience, or should be atoning for cinema sins... As well as Conclave we've got reviews this week of ‘Moana 2', sequel to the 2016 Disney smash where this time the Polynesian not-a-princess must journey to the lost land of Motufetū to lift a curse from her island community—and ‘Your Monster', the comedy-horror-musical mash-up that sees dumped and depressed actress Laura unexpectedly reunited with the childhood monster from under her bed.
