Rerun: Swimwear never made more of a splash than when designer Louis Réard unveiled his daring new two-piece at the Piscine Molitor in Paris on July 5th, 1946. Showgirl Micheline Bernardini modelled the new attire, named after US nuclear testing site Bikini Atoll. Really. Eleven years later, Modern Girl magazine still considered it ‘inconceivable that any girl with tact and decency' would ever be seen wearing a bikini. Yet, by the sixties, it had become commonplace on beaches around the world. In this episode, Rebecca, Arion and Olly consider the role rival designer Jacques Heim played in inspiring the garment; reveal the countries where it remains illegal to wear a bikini (sometimes); and unearth Sarah Brightman's surprising role in Bombalurina's 1990 cover version of ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'... The Church’s Jeffrey Cain, a.k.a. Iris Doe, was on tour when he heard the news that Fred Cole of the punk band Dead Moon had passed. A huge fan, Cain sat with sorrow and came up with a tribute called “A Miss of You.”
The music of Portland legend Fred Cole is celebrated with The Weeds and Dead Moon, plus Black Panther activist Elaine Brown, garage punk legend Link Wray, the dance music of A Certain Ratio, quirky pop from Pictish Trail, and some beautiful music from Le Ren. Plus Bob and Mike hit on a theme for an upcoming show.

Toody Cole is an Oregon-based musician, bass player, and vocalist. She is best known as a founding member of Dead Moon with her husband Fred Cole and drummer Andrew Loomis. Together, they were a successful DIY band for 19 years (1985-2006). She also played in The Rats and Pierced Arrows.
This episode dives more into the actual formation of the band that would become Dead Moon and how they finally found that sound that Fred was always looking for. We are not experts on this subject by any means but we are big fans and hope you guys learned something along with us. R.I.P. Fred Cole and Andrew Loomis. DEAD MOON FOREVER!
Best-selling novelist Tom Perrotta has a flair for finding humanity in talks about thinking through the social and spiritual dimensions of inetrnet porn for his bittersweet satire, "Mrs. Fletcher". We also discuss famous film and video adaptations of his other works, like "Election" and "The Leftovers".

Great to hear a genius in his field. In this interview Jaybo and Gregg talk about Get Hip Records new record store in Pittsburgh PA and his guitar playing in The Cynics. We touch on Classic and punk rock legends across the board from Fred Cole to Fred "Sonic" Smith. Buckle up as we go on a ride w a man who has mastered his knowledge of music and records as much as anyone ive ever come across. This is my favorite kind of interview where i hit record and let the "subject' just GO. Great Great insightful stuff from a guy who helped make Pittsburgh Rock and Roll what it is today. Get Hip or Get Lost! This chat was recorded at Get Hip Records in the North End of Pittsburgh on my yuppie MACBOOK using garage band and a snowball microphone October 2017 Enjoy!
It’s a variety of sounds tonight, including a little tribute to Dead Moon’s Fred Cole.
Brandon pays tribute to one of his all-time favorite musicians and artistic role models, Fred Cole. There may be another Bono, there may be another Mick Jagger, and hell, there will probably be another Beatles. But there will never be another Fred Cole.
Today's episode is dedicated to the greatest rock n roll band ever, Dead Moon (Fred Cole). It includes music spanning Fred's 50+ year career.
Toody Cole plays bass for the legendary Dead Moon. Her and Fred Cole have crafted a timeless and haunting rootsy punk sound that cuts to the core of the human experience. Really. They are more DIY than any other band that exists. Totally catchy, totally bad ass. Toody and Fred have been laying it down in various bands such as The Rats and and Pierced Arrows since before you were born. Here, Toody talks here about possible retirement, Andrew Loomis' health and what her dream bill would be.Just Listen. Recorded @ Hollow Earth studios in July 2015. ENJOY.
