**This episode was recorded prior to some of the other episodes of Season 3. Shownotes We talk about the role of spirituality in death a lot on the show, but with everything there are always two sides to the conversation. Sometimes in loss, people feel despondent enough to want to contact the dead. With popular shows that glamorize avenues such as mediums, holistic healing, yoga, reiki and other new age practices, it makes one wonder what's the harm? Andrea Bear interviews Susan Brinkman, author and award-winning journalist about necromancy (invoking the dead) and the dangers of the new age. Listen to their conversation and how these practices go against God's wishes and sheds light on who is really conversing on the other side. Guest Bio Susan Brinkmann, O.C.D.S., is an author and award-winning journalist and a member of the Third Order of Discalced Carmelites. She serves as Director of New Age Research for Women of Grace® and is a frequent guest on EWTN's Women of Grace® television show. She is the founder of Live Catholic, an educational nonprofit devoted to teaching authentic Catholic prayer in the Carmelite tradition to the faithful. Susan formerly worked as a Correspondent for the Catholic Standard & Times, the newspaper for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. For the last 10 years she has been the lead researcher for Women of Grace's New Age Q&A Blog which is the largest blog of its kind in the world. She has also authored eleven books, including The Learn to Discern Compendium: Is It Christian or New Age which has an imprimatur from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Liguori Publications published the story of her conversion, entitled, We Need to Talk: God Speaks to a Modern Girl. You can email her at sbrinkmann@womenofgrace.com. What were the circumstances that prompted you to reach out? 2. Reflect on the conversation and how Susan shares why God does not permit necromancy. How has this changed your view on the role of the afterlife? 3. In times of loss how can the Saints be a source of comfort? 4. How can the devil manipulate mediums and those who engage to think he is helping instead of hurting? 5. God does allow our loved ones to be intercessors through prayer. What prayers can you offer for your loved one to insure their place in heaven as well as comfort for your heart? 6. What is your mourning glory? Prayer for the soul of Joey P.
Rerun: Swimwear never made more of a splash than when designer Louis Réard unveiled his daring new two-piece at the Piscine Molitor in Paris on July 5th, 1946. Showgirl Micheline Bernardini modelled the new attire, named after US nuclear testing site Bikini Atoll. Really. Eleven years later, Modern Girl magazine still considered it ‘inconceivable that any girl with tact and decency' would ever be seen wearing a bikini. Yet, by the sixties, it had become commonplace on beaches around the world. In this episode, Rebecca, Arion and Olly consider the role rival designer Jacques Heim played in inspiring the garment; reveal the countries where it remains illegal to wear a bikini (sometimes); and unearth Sarah Brightman's surprising role in Bombalurina's 1990 cover version of ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'... As we say goodbye to reliving the 20th anniversary of the Riot Act tour, there are so many other Pearl Jam anniversaries that need to be celebrated this year. Believe it or not, it's been a full decade since the 2013 Lightning Bolt tour, as well as the release of the record. In July of that year, the band revealed their plans for their 10th studio album release nearly days before the two big North American summer shows - Wrigley Field and London, Ontario. We all know how big of a deal that Wrigley show was. It was the first ballpark show of it's kind, heavy storms caused a two and a half hour delay leading to a show that didn't end until 2 am, and Bugs was played. Because of the hype leading up to Wrigley, the London show that preceded it became a bit of an after thought. For those unfamiliar, we'll tackle why this show deserves more love and appreciation from this fanbase that may have forgotten about it in the wake of Wrigley. Like Wrigley, this is a show that was never released as an official bootleg. So most of the stories and moments that are relived come directly from the less than 10,000 fans who were there in attendance in this intimate venue. We're lucky to be joined by two in this episode as Patron, Tim Fortescue, hops on to discuss why he requested this show, and filling in for John this week is Hallucinogenic Recipe co-host, Patrick Boegel, who also has great memories from this. A lot of the discussion here will come from this being the true kickoff to the new era, with a brand new rig, stage and lighting set up, setlist structure and new takes on old songs. It was the beginning of the nightly three song slow burn openers that came off as a massive surprise when the rarely opened with Present Tense kicked off this night. It was also the start of the slowburn encore in a way too, which was the most anticipated part of the set featuring some of the rarest songs in the catalog, IE: Parachutes and Man Of The Hour at this show. We'll also get to talking about the live debut of Mind Your Manners, a London Calling tease, amazing transitions between songs such as Modern Girl into Black, Dundas hookers on crack and experimental takes on two fan favorites - one that worked in Corduroy, and one that didn't in Daughter. As a bonus, we'll also ponder why Canadian hotels only have Garfield cartoons featured on their TVs. Our Gear Guru segments this week focus on the brand new rig set-up for 2013, the defining sound of Mind Your Manners and Alone featuring Mike's usage of a slide pick. Got a daughter? Kaz Cooke, Author of Girl Stuff 8-12 years (and many other amazing life-stage books) shares her tips about how to guide your tween girl through body changes, periods as well as inappropriate comments from relatives. Throughout the episode, she emphasises the importance of normalising puberty, and that the experience and timing is different for all girls. And it's all normal. Kaz says: "Do not let anyone in the family comment on your child's body changes. Do not let brothers and sisters tease each other. You need to have a very strong hard rule. Often family members who feel like they have a right to comment of girls bodies - Uncles, Aunts and often grandparents. They'll say 'oh you've put on weight', or there's a judgement built into "Oh you've shot up". It's astonishing that people in extended families might make comments like 'Oh, you're growing out the front now'. "About Kaz CookeKaz is your friend for life, her books helping generations of girls and women with their health and life stages. She constantly updates her books which have become classics, reassuring and entertaining more than two generations of Australians. She began her career as a cadet journalist at The Age newspaper, and soon lurched into other areas, producing her cartoon strip Hermoine the Modern Girl; and the first of many columns and books. She still writes things, and talks in public and on the radio. And on the phone.Kaz lives in Melbourne and often works in her pyjamas (usually without leaving the house). Her hobbies include reading, sewing in a straight line and shouting at the television news.Kaz recommendsIn this episode, Kaz recommends the following documentary about body image:Embrace is a social impact documentary by Taryn Brumfitt that explores the serious issue of body loathing, inspiring us to change the way we feel about ourselves and think about our bodies.#theparentingcouch #theparentingcouchpodcast #parenting #northshoremums

Extrasode 2 – The Math of Swellness Who doesn't like a review of an album that came out three months ago by two white men that is twice the length of the actual album? This is a longform review of “Path of Wellness”. Somewhere in there we explore the post framework of post album branding, a tangent on Tarantino, and Oliver Sacks theory of Fabi Reyna. A little background: We recorded this podcast in July. This was during that magic period in which both the computer and the microphone were dying (spoilers). The audio is a bit rough sounding, even after I cleaned it up. Most notably, I had to cut most of a section where we talk about Sleater-Kinney's Post “The Woods” career. I bring this up because it comes off as a lot more dismissive of those efforts. I don't want to snooze on this, because both Carrie and Corin produced some amazing music in those years (The Spells, Wild Flag, and the Corin Tucker Band). Two more interesting notes: 1. I seem to be a bit down on this album. I'm not. I love this album and still have it in heavy rotation. My favorite song (which I neglect to mention) is “Favorite Neighbor” 2. It's interesting that I think of something sounding like “Fleetwood Mac” as a good thing, while my brother does not Songs Featured in Extrasode 2: “Price Tag”, “Path of Wellness”, “Favorite Neighbor” and “No Knives” – Sleater-Kinney “Ditched You” – Mommy Long Legs Excerpt at ~ 13 minutes is from “Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl” by Carrie Brownstein

Lewica najpierw doprowadziła do powszechnej akceptacji negliżu u kobiet, a teraz tymże negliżem walczy.
Swimwear never made more of a splash than when designer Louis Réard unveiled his daring new two-piece at the Piscine Molitor in Paris on July 5th, 1946. Showgirl Micheline Bernardini modelled the new attire, named after US nuclear testing site Bikini Atoll. Really.Eleven years later, Modern Girl magazine still considered it ‘inconceivable that any girl with tact and decency' would ever be seen wearing a bikini. Yet, by the sixties, it had become commonplace on beaches around the world. In this episode, Rebecca, Arion and Olly consider the role rival designer Jacques Heim played in inspiring the garment; reveal the countries where it remains illegal to wear a bikini (sometimes); and unearth Sarah Brightman's surprising role in Bombalurina's 1990 cover version of ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'...Further Reading:• 15 Hilarious First Reactions to the Invention of the Bikini (BestLife, 2019):https://bestlifeonline.com/bikini-invention-reactions/• Fred Cole's scorn for bikinis (‘Fashion: In The Swim', TIME, 1950):http://content.time.com/time/subscriber/article/0,33009,813465,00.html• That Bombalurina video, featuring the future Mrs Barlow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LagoycfdCAFor bonus material and to support the show, visit Patreon.com/RetrospectorsWe'll be back tomorrow!
