Melissa chats with director Numa Perrier, the director of THE PERFECT FIND starring Gabrielle Union, which will be released on Netflix on June 23rd 2023. Numa Perrier is an actor, director, writer and visual artist who has emerged as a provocative voice in the film and television landscape. Perrier's first feature, JEZEBEL, which she wrote, directed and co-starred, premiered at SXSW and was released on Netflix in 2020 via Ava Duvernay's ARRAY Releasing. Detailing Perrier's real-life experiences, the film follows 19-year-old Tiffany (Tiffany Tenille) as she navigates working as an internet cam girl in the '90s, in order to navigate her dying mother's financial struggles. Jezebel was a fan and industry favorite nabbing The Hollywood Reporter's Critic's Choice List and winning Best Director and Best Feature Film at The American Black Film Festival. NUMA PERRIER DIRECTOR, ACTOR,WRITER, PRODUCER Born in Haiti and raised in small town USA, Numa Perrier has emerged as an exciting multi hyphenate in the film/TV landscape. Her early work includes starring in and writing the hit web series, The Couple, which scored a deal at HBO. She co-founded the pioneering streaming platform Black&Sexy TV serving as a creator, director, and showrunner on over a dozen series including Roomieloverfriends (produced by Issa Rae) and Hello Cupid (co-created by Lena Waithe) She then moved on to her feature film directorial debut, Jezebel, which premiered at SXSW 2019 and is distributed on Netflix via Ava DuVernay's ARRAY Releasing. Numa is the recipient of the Best Feature and Best Director Awards at the American Black Film Festival, is a Root100 alumni and is also counted as one of the all women directing team on Queen Sugar, helming an episode that trended nationally. In front of the camera Numa recurred as guest star on Showtime's irreverent comedy SMILF in an critically acclaimed story arc about immigrants. ASHLEY BLAINE FEATHERSON currently stars as ‘Joelle Brooks' in the critically acclaimed Netflix Original Series, DEAR WHITE PEOPLE. After the show's 2017 debut, Variety, described Featherson's ‘Joelle' as “pitch-perfect,” and TV Guidesaid the actress “is the comic force of the show.” In Volumes 2 & 3, Featherson continued to steal scenes and reviews and now, with her stunning cover of Erykah Badu's classic, ‘Tyrone,' she is also the only cast member featured on the soundtrack. Alongside Emmy-winner Lena Waithe, Featherson co-created the groundbreaking web series, HELLO CUPID. Vulture selected CUPID as one of the best web series of 2014 and The Boston Globe went further, declaring the series, and Ashley, deserving of Emmys. This past year, Featherson again stood out and hailed for her starring role in the MACRO produced series, LEIMERT PARK, at Sundance. Featherson also starred in Amber Tamblyn's directorial debut, PAINT IT BLACK, on the big screen; and in the 2016 ABC pilot, DREW, and guest starred in Fox's GLEE on the small screen. As for what's next, she is co-starring in the 2020 Sundance Hit BAD HAIR set to hit theaters later this year. Featherson received her BFA in musical theater from Howard University and she currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
