The Louisiana rapper turned them away the first time they swung by his home in late 2022. But when they returned, he decided to them in: “I wanted help very badly. I needed a friend. And it hit me,” he recalls.“It was just cool to see someone with a different mindset that had nothing to do with business or money — just these wonderful souls,” he tells Billboard. The missionaries now discuss The Book of Mormon with YoungBoy regularly, which accounts for his recent “Hi Haters” video opening with a quote from the Latter Day Saints tome. According to YoungBoy, their visits help him “make sure my heart is in the right space”; he's planning on being officially baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ the Latter-day Saints after his ankle monitor is removed.“Even when my negative thoughts come back, when I do want to tell them, ‘Not today,' I just don't let nothing stop it,” he explains. The rapper's potential baptism dovetails with his growing uncertainty over the violent storytelling in his own lyrics. This year's I Rest My Case (released on Motown, his first since signing with the label) intentionally featured fewer mentions of guns than on previous projects. While he's aware that lyrical shifts could affect his popularity — “What if they don't like me now?” he mused about his audience during the interview – he refuses to rap about violence merely to satisfy listeners. “I'm not changing. I will not be provoked, I will not be broken, and I'm not going back to who I used to be. Accept it or not — I ain't going back.”

You have to see yourself winning.Everybody's got that cousin... a cousin who is funnier than Eddie Murphy, one who can jump higher than Michael Jordan or that one who - with just a little coaching and education - could be the next Obama. Let’s agree to agree, we're blessed. Genius abounds at Black family reunions. So, when I look at Jesse Owens, it cracks me up because he looks like everybody’s cousin who can run fast. Jesse Owens was ours. He was familiar. He was our chance to prove it. Settle the score. Win. He was the punchline to the joke of injustice. He was our graceful entrance. And our “Hi Haters!” Jesse-Owens-was-redemption. And, like so many of us who fight poverty, generational trauma, and thick-thick racism, Hitler didn't have anything for Jesse Owens - because he could already see victory before the race even began. Call it survival. Call it evolution. What the enemy planned for his downfall became the greatest victory of his life. Cue Koryn Hawthorne. Won't He Do it!Spiritual Warrior of the DayIn 1939, Jesse Owens was the most famous man on the planet. He "single-handedly crushed Hitler's myth of Aryan superiority" by pushing the limits of human capability and smashing world records. But today, we won't talk about gold medals. No. Instead, we will explore three very-real moral dilemmas in Owens' life that just may help us out in 2020. His life was complex. Rich with irony. Hard fought and often misguided. Scrappy. Not always honorable. And yet, we celebrate him - as a spiritual warrior - because he stayed in the race until the day he died. Through decades of shifting definitions of Blackness, he kept his eyes on doing his personal best. And for that, we draw a gritty brand of inspiration. Join GirlTrek’s Black History Bootcamp - The Prayer Edition at blackhistorybootcamp.com to receive specially curated emails with prayers, survival tips, speeches + dedicated songs to listen to for each episode. The Hi Haters squad is in San Francisco for the Rugby 7s World Cup. Naturally, we had to get the Captain of the US squad on the podcast. Madison Hughes joined Kate and Chaps to talk about the World Cup, his expectations for the team, and his unreal thighs. The World Cup starts today and there's no better place to get primed than right here on Hi Haters. PS: Many people are saying that Jesus cant play Rugby because his Dad will fix the game. We ask Madison to clear up this rumor. It's salacious to the core.
