On this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Elle Ingalls. She is an author, speaker, and high performance coach. She is one of the world’s top experts on the fight-or-flight stress response and the creator of the Pressure-Free method. What started as a simple conversation about her journey into coaching turned into an impromptu Masterclass on stress response. This is one of the most important conversations I've been able to publish since I've started podcasting... Be enlightened, be inspired, be empowered! Build a website in just 5 days (even if you're not techie) at www.free5daywebsitechallenge.com Already have a website? Take the Free "Jumpstart Your Website Traffic" marketing mini-course at www.jumpstartyourwebsitetraffic.com Leave a Review! One of the things that I’m so, so passionate about when it comes to building your business is making sure that you’re spending your time and money on things that will bring you a return on your investment when you’re just starting out. And I’m so adamant about it for you, because I’ve made so many decisions that delayed my success that I don’t want you to make the same mistakes that I did. It does not need to take you three years to be able to quit your day job, not because you’re not making enough money to replace your paycheck, but because you’re spending too much of it on things your business just isn’t ready for. That’s why I teach you how to DIY your own website for free inside my Free 5 Day Website Challenge - so that you can get your business off the ground quickly without spending a ton of time and money having someone do it for you when it’s inevitably going to change 6 months to a year in. And that’s why I love introducing you to people like today’s guest, Elle Drouin, founder of Styled Stock Society – a stylish stock photography membership for women entrepreneurs. I’m a total fangirl of Styled Stock Society not just because their images are gorgeous, but because they make you look like a total boss even if you’re on a budget. And it’s not just stock photos - they have Canva templates for all the assets you need to create to run an online business. There is absolutely a time and a place to invest in hiring a professional to design your website or design a brand for you or create custom assets like freebies, and that time is AFTER you’ve done the work to validate your ideas, and that’s exactly what Elle and I get into in today’s episode. Elle and I talk about: Elle’s transition from financial planner to photography membership site for female entrepreneurs. How Elle’s dog’s Instagram led to her first paying client. Why Elle’s first course flopped, and what she learned from it that changed everything. Elle’s marketing strategy and how she grows her audience. How she’s grown her team and what her first hire looked like. Elle's philosophy on money. Her thoughts on pivoting in your business. The one belief Elle had to change about herself to get where she is today. My favorite quotes from Elle: “If you have a solution to a problem that people actually have, and you're willing to put that solution in front of them, you've just got to take the chance.” “You kind of have to be conscious of how much you're actually spending and making sure that you're not spending it all.” “I've been very intentional with anything that I've created or launched to make sure that there are people that actually want it and are willing to pay for it and it's actually going to enable them to grow their business.” Resources mentioned in this episode: Free Stock Photos Bio: Elle is a product stylist, photographer, crazy dog mom, and Founder of Styled Stock Society – a stylish stock photography membership for women entrepreneurs. When she’s not styling and shooting photos, she’s also the human behind the Instagram-famous pup @mochiandthecity (who is far more popular than she’ll ever be). When Elle Rowley of Solly Baby created her first product it was out of necessity. She had one little one and another on the way. While she enjoyed wearing her oldest in a baby carrier, she was looking to find a different product to use because of the tension headaches she got using her store-bought carrier. She ended up sewing her own wrap, fell in love with the experience, and never looked back. (**sidenote...I have worn several of my babies in her wraps and they are WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!) Elle has grown Solly Baby, formerly lulu WRAP, from a small Etsy shop to a multi-million-dollar business. You read that right... multi-million! But, she didn't set out to grow a huge company. Her intention was to make money doing something she loved and cared about, that added value to the world, all while being able to stay at home. If you are struggling to believe in and bet on yourself and your business, this is the episode for you! Elle shares some really valuable tips on how to get your business up and running and then maintain it as it grows. In this episode, you will learn: • Why it's so important to test what market is best for you to sell in. (Just wait until you hear Elle's story about the Christmas show!) • The importance of betting on yourself • How Elle was able to bring her husband onboard and why defined roles are so important when working with your spouse • The #1 best thing that Elle and her Solly Baby team did to help define roles and structure the organization. • What you should look for when you make your first hire • The importance of storytelling in growing your brand • How Solly Baby deals with copycats LINKS Download the FREE episode handout with tips and quotes taken from this interview with Elle Rowley. Building a Story Brand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen by Donald Miller Myers Briggs Consulting QUOTES "Number one bad idea is to wait a few years to trademark the name. Such a bad idea." "I decided to get out there and talk to people, get it online, get it in person, get it in boutiques, and just see what sticks. See what's really going to be the right platform for us. Which I really do suggest to other brands as well when starting out. You just assume this one platform is going to be the way, but you just don't know until you've failed a bunch." "I'm betting on me this year." "You just decide. And, when that fear comes, you just decide it again and again and again. I'm feeling some fear, but I'm still betting on me and moving forward." "For those first hires, don't get someone who is a specialist in a certain area. Don't get the expert. Get the hustler that can do a lot of different things." "Don't give in to the drama of it." "If there's legal action to take, and it's worth taking... then take those steps." Key Takeaways from Episode 44 with Elle Rowley -- get the FREE handout!! They’ve collaborated with brands like American Express, Disney, Google, and The Ritz-Carlton and also use their platform to raise awareness for organizations like the Humane Society and local shelters. On today’s episode we talked about the benefits of using stock photography, strategies, processes and tools for streamlining social media and and why we need to focus on solving a problem as we build our products and services. ON TODAY’S EPISODE: Her three business & what she does for each Her career path prior to becoming an entrepreneur The types of customers Styled Stock Society caters to How her customers are using her images and how she customizes her photos for specific brands and needs The aesthetic of her photos & collections When she realized that Styled Stock Society was going to be successful How Mochi became a social media influencer Mochi’s online persona How Elle came up with who Mochi’s ideal follower is The processes and programs Elle uses for social media scheduling Which social media platform has been the most profitable for Elle Her advice for entrepreneurs What’s next for Styled Stock Society & Mochi KEY TAKE-AWAYS: “I wanted to figure out a way that I could help people with their marketing that didn't involve me talking all-day long.” - Elle Drouin “You're solving a problem for these business owners that are wearing so many hats, and they just can't do all of these things themselves.” - Katie Hunt “There are a lot of different ways you can customize the photos to be more specific to your brand.” - Elle Drouin “One of the things that we try to do is have a lot of negative space in certain photos in our collections so that there is room if you have maybe a desktop that has a few different items on it. You could actually drop a product image in it so it would look like it's sitting on the desktop with the rest of the other things.” - Elle Drouin “The level of effort that I put into the business just makes so much more sense to me than all the time I was spending doing things that were more one-on-one versus one-to-many.” - Elle Drouin “Mochi is a very Cosmopolitan dog in New York. She dresses up. She goes out for cocktails. She's currently in the middle of a summer in the Hamptons.” - Elle Drouin “Similar to creating any other type of brand for business or your person, just really thought about who the people are that were following her at that point and decided to be more strategic about creating content specifically for them.” - Elle Drouin “It's less about her real life, because her real life is 90% napping, and more just like a fun, creative outlet and a way that we have found to connect with people all over the world.” - Elle Drouin “I would say 80% of the time, we are trying to create engaging content, trying to get to know our audience, trying to relate to them and find ways that we can help them. Then, that 20% is the more obvious promotional sales focus.” - Elle Drouin “I'm creating visual content and selling photos to people, so people are more likely to find me on visual platforms.” - Elle Drouin “Solve a problem. Don't start with an idea because it's just something that you want to do but really think about who you want to serve and how you're helping them.” - Elle Drouin “The types of content that you create, everything you put out there is going to be affected by your why and what you're just trying to do.” - Elle Drouin CONNECT WITH ELLE DROUIN Website: https://elledrouin.com/ Elle's social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/elledrouin Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elledrouin/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/elledrouin/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/elledrouin Mochi’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mochiandthecity/ Styled Stock Society social media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/styledstocksociety/ BOOTH BLUEPRINT If you’re gearing up for trade show season and need help creating a beautiful booth that doesn’t break the bank, I want to invite you to my free masterclass. Did you know that more than an estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease? And up to 60 percent of those with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition. Crazy, right? Not only that, but women are five to eight times more likely to develop thyroid problems than men. And one in eight women will develop some form of thyroid disorder during her lifetime. This is just another clear example of an evolutionary mismatch disease... And the problem with trying to heal yourself and your thyroid is that most of the information will have you running in circles, including the (mis)information from the one you're supposed to trust the most—your doctor. That's why I'm excited to have Elle Russ—host of the wildly popular Primal Blueprint Podcast and author of The Paleo Thyroid Solution: Stop Feeling Fat, Foggy, and Fatigued at the Hands of Uninformed Doctors—join me on today's episode of Ancestral Health Radio. Elle and I discuss how you, the audience, can reclaim your health through a simple (although not easy!) ancestral approach to optimizing your metabolism. In today’s episode, you’ll learn… The six basic blood panels Elle recommends everyone get tested for, Elle explains how your body uses both T4 and T3 hormones (and how to optimize them both), Why Elle says endocrinologists are the worst people to see for your thyroid, and… Much, much more. How Elle gave herself hypothyroidism through maladaptive lifestyle choices Why Elle wrote The Paleo Thyroid Solution and how she nursed herself back to health with a high fat, low carb diet Why Elle believes the majority of endocrine doctors are 100% uninformed and are practicing borderline malpractice with their thyroid patients The biggest problem with being undiagnosed with hypothyroidism The last annoying thing on every hypothyroid patient's mind Why Elle calls the thyroid the master gland What happens if your thyroid is working sub-optimally What Elle says this master gland is primarily responsible for and how it works How your body uses T4 and T3 hormones What Elle describes as the most optimal choice for thyroid hormone replacement Why Reverse T3 (RT3) is "a problem on the rise" Why most people with hypothyroidism have some degree of adrenal fatigue When Elle says you should—or shouldn't—get tested for underlying symptoms of hypothyroidism Where Elle recommends people go to get blood work Why Elle says you should, "RUN!" if your endocrinologist judges you based off this 1973 test Six basic thyroid tests Elle recommends everyone get Why it's more important for someone with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis to be on a paleo-primal lifestyle Elle explains the origins of natural desiccated thyroid Why endocrinologists and doctors were told Synthroid is the only treatment for hypothyroidism Why Elle says you shouldn't trust any doctor The difference between desiccated thyroid and thyroid glandular Why endocrinologists are the worst people to see for your thyroid—and what to do about it Why Elle says, "If your blood work is within range does not mean it's optimal. Period. End of story." What paleo, primal, and ancestral health all have in common Elle describes chronic cardio and why hot yoga 5 times a week can actually make you fatter The fat-burning sweet spot in regards to aerobic max (hint: 180 minus your age) Eat this to zap your hunger once and for all Why Elle thinks you should experiment with your protein intake Elle describes the benefits of caloric efficiency (and10 ways to achieve it) Why Paleo is cheaper than most people believe Why Elle feels she made peace with seven years of suffering with thyroid disease Why you need to get your thyroid checked before your doctor puts you on an anti-depressant or statin medication Selenium's critical relationship between hormones T4 and T3 When you should supplement for specific micronutrient needs due to malabsorption versus maintaining proper ratios through whole foods
