Reflecting on my own journey, I encourage you to ask yourself whether quitting is truly the right solution or if you simply need a shift in your work environment, role, or mindset. I'll walk you through important questions to consider before making a big career move. I cover self-awareness, workplace dynamics, career alignment, and even alternative paths like entrepreneurship. I challenge you to think about whether you actually want to stop working or if you just need a break.  In this episode I discuss:  How self-reflection can help determine if your dissatisfaction is caused by the job itself or if there is a deeper issue, such as recurring work struggles or personal patterns. Whether frustration stems from low pay, lack of respect, or a toxic work environment, suggest considering negotiation or other options before quitting. The pros and cons of entrepreneurship, questioning whether you truly want to work for yourself  Whether taking a sabbatical, extended PTO, or making a career shift might be a better solution than quitting altogether. They share insights on understanding spending habits, using a 90-day transaction inventory to uncover patterns, and how dopamine fasting can reprogram spending behaviors. Tune in for practical tips and strategies to help you spend with purpose, align your money with what truly matters, and find joy on your path to financial freedom. In this episode you'll learn:  That frugality is not about wanting less but wanting different and embracing the desire for big things in life. It's about good stewardship of all resources. The need for flexibility and fluidity in spending decisions, especially during different life stages.  How a no spend challenge can be a way to pause non-essential spending and give the brain space to ask important questions about spending behaviors.  How to align spending with deeper values such as faith, family, friends, and fulfilling work. This week on the Journey to Launch Podcast we have a returning guest, Jordan Grumet, a financial independence and wellness expert, discussing his new book, "The Purpose Code," which explores the concept of purpose in our lives. He differentiates between "little p" purpose, which is process-oriented and joyful, and "big P" purpose, which is goal-oriented and often stressful. Jordan emphasizes that true happiness and impact come from engaging in activities that bring joy, rather than striving for grand achievements. He also addresses the misconception that lack of time or money prevents one from finding purpose, suggesting that youth, energy, and community can be leveraged. Jordan advocates for building a life of purposeful activities, which in turn fosters deeper connections and long-term impact. In this episode, Jordan discusses: His transition from being a hospice doctor to focusing on understanding and helping others find their purpose. The difference between meaning and purpose and why purpose is a key ingredient of happiness. How to identify and build purpose anchors through methods like life reviews, subtraction, revisiting childhood joys, and experimenting with the spaghetti method.  Why parenting is a responsibility and it shouldn't be one's sole purpose + why focusing on one's own purpose sets a positive example for children & leads to generational growth. This week on the Journey to Launch Podcast, I have a gift for you! I'm sharing the 1st chapter to my book, Your Journey to Financial Freedom. In this chapter I start off my book defining Financial Freedom and Independence and addressing the various financial independence approaches. I highlight the importance of setting financial goals, even if they seem unattainable initially, and the personal growth achieved through the pursuit of FI. Financial Independence doesn't necessarily mean you need to quit working, instead it's about having options and control over your financial life.  In the first chapter of my book I share:  How to choose a path other than the basic personal finance and elite FIRE approaches and create your own financial path to Financial Freedom That financial independence is not about accumulating wealth but about the personal growth and skills gained along the journey. That the idea that retiring early is impossible or unrealistic is a common misconception. This decision is personal & can vary from person to person. Why you should view financial freedom as a form of control and peace of mind, even with any current financial constraints. This week on the Journey to Launch Podcast, I am sharing my journey of running my first half marathon at the Reggae Marathon in Negril, Jamaica, drawing the parallels between the lessons learned from running and those from my financial freedom journey. This race aligned with the one-year anniversary of my book “Your Journey to Financial Freedom” and had me reflect on the power of setting ambitious goals, embracing challenges, and finding joy in the journey. I also share the pleasure I had to be able to stay at two boutique, family-owned resorts—Rondel Village and Travelers Beach Resort, and being able to reunite with former podcast guests, Tiffany Grant and Tanya Taylor. Through the lessons drawn from the race, I talk about the importance of community, preparation, and maintaining an optimistic mindset, while celebrating serendipitous moments that reflect life's magic.  In this episode I share:  The race details, waking up at 3:45 AM for the shuttle to the starting line, starting the race at 5:15 AM, shared moments with other runners & the thrill of crossing the finish line with a sense of accomplishment. How training for the race paralleled the financial independence journey since both require preparation, perseverance, incremental progress & community support Why you should avoid assumptions about others and comparing yourself to others, instead focus on your progress Serendipitous moments like reuniting with family and connecting with podcast listeners can remind us of life's wonder and interconnectedness + more. This week on the Journey to Launch Podcast, I'm reflecting on my own financial freedom journey so far and defining key concepts around financial independence. Not too long ago my growing family and demanding commute to my corporate job fueled my desire for a more flexible, fulfilling life. My husband and I saved and invested $169,000 in two years, I began my journey of entrepreneurship, wrote my book “Your Journey to Financial Freedom” and today I get to choose what I want to do with my time. I'm also reviewing my framework for achieving financial freedom, starting with calculating your financial independence number (the amount needed to live off investments without active work) and progressing through my "Journeyer Stages" from stabilizing finances to achieving full work flexibility or "financial independence." I'm encouraging you to embrace your journey towards financial independence and find fulfillment along the way.  In this episode I share: The challenges of balancing work and family, and how it started me on the path to financial freedom The components of the wealth formula and why you need to maximize your income and optimize expenses to achieve financial independence. The guac levels, which represent different spending habits and lifestyles & why it's important to be honest with yourself about spending habits The importance of changing oneself and becoming the best version of you through the journey. In this week's solo episode of the Journey to Launch Podcast, I explore the concept of wealth and what it means to be truly rich. While wealth is often defined by an abundance of money or material possessions, I discuss the distinction between "visible wealth" (like possessions) and "invisible wealth" (such as financial security, time freedom, and health). I also emphasize the importance of avoiding comparisons to others, especially in affluent environments, and instead focusing on your own financial journey.   In this episode I share:  How exploring middle school options for my oldest son has me questioning the true value of wealth and financial freedom  Why you should reflect on how you view wealth and financial freedom in your own life. How different people may perceive wealth and how it can lead to misperceptions about one's financial status. Why it's crucial to appreciate the wealth you already have, without seeking external validation. How to find value in the invisible wealth that people cannot see, such as being healthy, having strong relationships, having savings, and being able to pay bills on time. Kim Sherwood's A Spy Like Me had its official launch on Saturday 27th April at Dukes Hotel in London. The event was a collaboration between 007GB - The British James Bond Fan Club, Ian Fleming Publications Limited and Harper Collins. It was my pleasure to be not only an organiser but also the emcee for the evening. The centrepiece of the event was a conversation between Kim and me with a follow-up Q&A. This is a recording of that. I hope you enjoy it. More about the book A Spy Like Me is the second novel in the Double O trilogy, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Double or Nothing. A Spy Like Me is even more tense than its predecessor. It's both an addictively readable thriller and a work of great Literature. How Kim achieved such a magnificent feat was explored at the launch, with David Lowbridge-Ellis MBE hosting the evening, conversing with Kim and taking questions from the audience. Check out David's review of the book here: https://www.licencetoqueer.com/blog/book-review-a-spy-like-me Watch David and Kim discussing other aspects of the novel in this series of Classified Chats: https://www.licencetoqueer.com/blog/classified-chats-with-kim-sherwood More about the launch event The launch was a collaboration between 007GB - The British James Bond Fan Club, Ian Fleming Publications Limited and Harper Collins – the first time anything like this has happened. We chose to have it at Dukes Hotel for reasons obvious to any Fleming fan; it's practically a site of pilgrimage for us (Bond's creator loved to drink at the sensational bar) and it has long associations with the character of 007. Compared with a regular book launch, there was a more intimate, familial atmosphere. This was something we had planned for as soon as we were asked by Ian Fleming Publications and Harper Collins to collaborate with them. It's unusual to have a book launch on a weekend, but having it on a Saturday meant it could be a more relaxed and convivial affair. It also meant more members from across the country could make it to London for the event. Some of our overseas members were also able to attend and it was lovely to have them there. The evening began with a sumptuous wine reception and continued long after the official finish time. Representatives from the Fleming family, Ian Fleming Publications and Harper Collins mingled with club members, Kim's family and invited guests. Fellow Bond author Charlie Higson was also in attendance; he asked a deliciously tongue in cheek question about the third book, which will be released in 2025. You can hear this - and all of the other questions - in this podcast.
