We are sitting down with Antonio Cupo at his home in Vancouver. Antonio grew up in Vancouver and early in his career he spent many years in Italy as a lead actor in one of the most popular TV drama shows in Italian TV history – Elisa di Rivombrosa. But, that was just a start. We explore some great human themes in our conversation – the meaning of “immedesimarsi”, using “as ifs” to explore, performing the experience while reliving it, acting from pictures in your head, the power in losing the need to make money, grandmothers being shot at and a beautiful story about a guy in the rain looking for a coffee. With art comes a lot of pain. Warum wirkten einige Charaktere blass?

In this episode, we energize and dive deep into one of Star Trek's most iconic inventions: the transporter. From its fictional technology to the profound questions it raises, we explore how this simple act of "beaming" challenges our understanding of identity, humanity, and what truly makes us… us. What happens to a person when they're turned into energy and reassembled somewhere else? Is the "you" that steps onto the transporter pad the same "you" that steps off? We also unravel the real-world inspiration and practicality behind the transporter, including why Gene Roddenberry made the choice to introduce this futuristic shortcut—hint: it had more to do with budgets than warp-speed imagination. Join us for a fascinating journey through science, philosophy, and storytelling as we break down the tech, the lore, and the big ideas behind Star Trek's most mind-bending innovation. Energize. Engage. And let's beam into the unknown together.

“Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls are banned from access to education and women are limited from work.” That is the stark reality that motivated Malala Yousafzai to lend her name as a producer to the documentary Bread & Roses (Apple TV+). Directed by Sahra Mani and co-produced by Jennifer Lawrence, the film follows three Afghan women (filmed in secret) as they live under and resist the Taliban oppression. “I believe that while the Taliban are trying to silence women, amplifying their voices through this documentary, is a form of resistance.” For Mani, the message of this film is of vital global importance. “Afghan women [are] paying the price the high price today, the world might pay the price tomorrow... We need solidarity of the world right now, tomorrow might be [too] late.” For Yousafzai, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient who rose to prominence after surviving a failed Taliban assassination attempt at 12 years old, this is an issue that is rooted in the inalienable right to dignity and personal freedom. “We all remain committed to it, and we'll keep fighting til the day we see every Afghan girl going to her school again, and every Afghan women getting their equal rights, living in dignity.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
I just happened to be presenting on KINDNESS in Memphis when I hear that Celia Imrie was in the same location on her book tour of "Meet Me at Rainbow Corner". She graciously accepted my offer for a quick interview and was simply delightful. Although she politely disputed the name of my company by sensing that "Many People DO!", we had a lovely discussion about KINDNESS, ambition, and "doing". Her best-selling books seem to have a theme of empathy and being nice, which she attributes to her personal philosophy. Celia is best known for her film roles, including the Bridget Jones film series, Nanny McPhee, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and the Netflix series The Diplomat. This interview was live from the Peabody Memphis hotel as we discuss her journey as an Olivier Award winner, a celebrated actress, and an author known for her themes of kindness and empathy. Celia highlights the importance of continuous effort and optimism, sharing her experiences of receiving warmth and hospitality while traveling across America. The conversation also touches on the significance of kindness, how it influences her writing, and the impact of wartime struggles on human relationships.
