Let's talk about something that affects literally all of us, but rarely gets named. You declutter your home, try to simplify your life, create calmer spaces… But then you reach for your phone and instantly feel anxious, scattered, or drained. Why does that happen? And more importantly: what can we do about it? In this eye-opening conversation, I'm joined by Jenny Wise Black, a licensed therapist, mom, and pioneer in the movement for digital wellness and media trauma recovery. Jenny shares how modern screen habits are rewiring our brains, eroding our ability to focus, and deeply impacting the way we connect to ourselves, our kids, and our peace. We dive deep into what it means to have an anxious attachment to your phone, why downtime has become screen time, and how to reclaim the kind of joy and presence we had before we were tethered to a screen 24/7. You'll leave this episode with the clarity (and practical steps!) to start shifting your habits without guilt or overwhelm, even if you're a busy mom with zero desire to go off-grid. What You'll Learn in This Episode: What “media trauma” is and how it might be impacting your mental health without you realizing it How screen time affects your nervous system and your home life (yes, even that innocent Instagram scroll) The real reason we feel anxious without our phones and why it's not a willpower problem Simple, science-backed steps to reduce phone-induced anxiety (without needing a digital detox retreat) Why going grayscale and setting screen boundaries may change your life more than any decluttering tip ever has How to model healthier tech habits for your kids without shame or perfection A powerful reframe for moms: you're not failing, you're operating in a system that was never built to support you What “predatory media” is, how to spot it, and how to break the consumption cycle Resources & Mentions: Jenny's Book: Vintage Therapy (https://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Therapy-Practical-Wisdom-Modern/dp/B0FPMR7FK9) – free digital version available on her Substack! Take my FREE Hormone Symptom Profile Assessment: https://bit.ly/takemyhormonequiz What if I told you the biggest threat to your midlife metabolism isn't your age or your diet—it's your office chair? It's true. Sitting for hours can double your risk for hormone-related metabolic issues in midlife like insulin resistance, fatigue, and stubborn weight gain. Plus, the more you sit, the less motivated you feel to move, leaving you in a cycle of exhaustion and frustration. In this week's episode, I'm peeling back the curtain on the hidden hormone damage caused by a sedentary lifestyle and sharing 5 quick tips to get your body--and your metabolism--moving again. Tune in to learn the answers to some of your most commonly asked questions, including: ✅ How does sitting too much affect hormones? ✅ Is sitting really as bad as smoking? ✅ Can short workouts boost my metabolism in perimenopause? ✅ Is walking enough to lose weight after 40? ✅ What type of exercise is best for hormone balance? ✅ Does strength training help lower cortisol? ✅ Should I exercise every day? Mr. Honest is back in Hell's Kitchen. This lean, no-filler breakdown of Daredevil Season 1 hits the big beats that made Marvel's street-level corner legendary: the confession booth thesis, the Episode 2 hallway fight, Fisk's brutal rise (and Vanessa's influence), Foggy's heartbreak, Karen's line in the sand, and the red-suit coronation. Along the way, Eric connects the dots to Born Again—without spoilers—and explains why Marvel Maniac is shifting to season deep-dives for quality over quantity. If you're binging the Netflix era for the first time or jumping in from Born Again, this recap will refresh the moments that matter and why they still hit. Plus: programming notes, future coverage teases, and a quick plug for Magic Muggle (Saturdays at 10 AM). Episode 77 - Murdock and Marvel: 2009 Part 2 2009 was a tough year for comics, in that sales declined and a number of stores (nearly 50% in some areas) closed their doors.  Closings of Waldenbooks and other book outlets also made getting product into customers' hands difficult.  We also saw cover prices rise, even as the recession continued to impact fans ability to spend. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2009.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances: Daredevil #113-119, 500-501, Daredevil Noir #1-4, Dark Reign: The List – Daredevil #1, New Avengers #47, Secret Invasion #8, Secret Invasion: Front Line #5, Age of Sentry #4 and 6, Fantastic Four #562 and 569, Might Avengers #20, What If? Newer Fantastic Four #1, What If? Secret Wars #1, New Warriors #20, Amazing Spider-Man #587 and 600, Marvels: Eye of the Camera #2 and 4, Ultimate Spider-Man #132, Astonishing Tales #3-5, Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #2-3, Deadpool: Suicide Kings #3-5, Exiles #6, Strange Tales #2 and Marvel 70th Anniversary Collection.  Writing: Ed Brubaker (#113-119, 500), Andy Diggle (#501) Pencils: Michael Lark (#113-114, 117-119), Lark, Tony Zonjic and Gaudiano (#115), David Aja (#116), Lark and Gaudiano (#500), Roberto De La Torre (#501) Inks: Stefano Gaudiano (#113-114, 116-119), Matt Hollingsworth (#115), Klaus Janson, Chris Samnee and Paul Azaceta (#500), Roberto De La Torre (#501) 2009 begins with the final three parts of the Lady Bullseye storyline we talked about to finish up 2008. In that we Daredevil, Black Tarantula and White Tiger along with Master Izo trying to take down the Hand once and for all – but the Hand are trying to recruit Daredevil to be their leader. The story ends with Lord Hirochi, Lady Bullseye, Black Tarantula, and White Tiger board a plane to Spain, where Lady Bullseye says they will pursue Plan B.  In March, we get the return of another old foe – Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin himself in an aptly titled story called Return of the King. In part one of the story, we see Fisk in Spain where he befriends and falls in love with a woman, Marta, and her kids – only to see Lady Bullseye and the Hand killing them causing him to revert back to his old ways.  Kingpin returns to New York and announces his return and his plans to deal with Daredevil. That plan turns out to be working with Daredevil to take down the Hand. Meanwhile, Foggy is upset that Matt constant absence from the firm confronts him and ultimately fires him.  Daredevil tries to locate Master Izo without success and begins to doubt his alliance with Kingpin, suspecting that Fisk is using the Hand and the Owl to wipe out his rivals. Fisk, still haunted by visions of Vanessa, meets with the Owl and gives him Lady Bullseye's next target – Foggy Nelson.  The conclusion of this story – is a renumbered issue 500 of Daredevil and the conclusion of Ed Brubaker on Daredevil – will be our spotlight story for this week.   In Dark Reign: The List – Daredevil #1 we see Bullseye (now operating under the Hawkeye identity) go after Daredevil at the behest of Norman Osborn. Daredevil pursues him but falls into a trap: Bullseye lures him into a building full of protestors and then blows it up. The blast kills 107 people, leaving Matt devastated and furious—determined to take action.  Following that we get the start of a new story from new creative team - Andy Diggle and Roberto De La Torre entitled The Devil's Hand. In it, we see Matt as leader of the Hand. Since most of this story takes place in 2010 – we'll save talking about it more until our 2010 discussion. This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil #500 October 2009 “Return of the King, Conclusion” Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway It had been a rough decade for the United States, and the Marvel Universe showed the strain as the decade ended. It's that time of year! Manure pits are being emptied and farm fields are fragrant. Although most think of the DNR as the wildlife enforcers, they're also responsible for monitoring manure management. Jason Knutson, the Watershed Management Director with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources talks to Ben Jarboe. He says they focus on making sure farms stay within their permits and abide by the state's laws. They also want to make sure operators are safe, and that they're doing everything they can to protect the state's water sources.Foggy morning in Wisconsin, but improving temperatures for outdoor workers. That's the forecast from Stu Muck. 26% of the states potato crop has already been harvested, but there's plenty more to come! Kiley Allen gets the lowdown from Tamas Houlihan, executive director of the WI Potato and Vegetable Growers Association. He says potato growers are taking their time after the recent spike in temperatures. Houlihan says ideally potatoes are harvested between 45-70 degrees. That means early morning or late night harvests when it's hot. It's day number two of the Pro Farmer Crop Tour. Andy Peterson finds out that South Dakota experienced some "greensnap" in their corn, and that soybean will need time and moisture to finish in the east. Keep an eye on cattle. John Heinberg, market advisor with Total Farm Marketing tells Pam Jahnke that carcass prices have escalated yet again. Marketers are also working on a strategy after huge tariffs were levied against Brazilian beef! Foggy, fragile, or numb? It's not you — it's your nervous system. This episode reframes fatigue as wisdom and shows high-capacity humans how to lead from alignment, not adrenaline. If you've been pushing through but feeling more off than on — this episode will feel like a breath you didn't know you needed.Today, Julie Holly names what so many high-capacity humans have misdiagnosed in themselves: nervous system fatigue. Not burnout. Not laziness. Not lack of discipline. But a physiological signal that your body has been trying to send for a while. You'll learn how the nervous system quietly overrides presence — even when your life looks aligned from the outside. And how this shows up in ways that often go unnoticed: constant stimulation, difficulty resting, overcommitting to “good” things that still feel draining. You'll also explore:Why high performers often launch their day in sympathetic modeHow even meditation and morning routines can reinforce pressureWhat it means to lead from regulation — not just resilienceThe myth of “more discipline” and the truth about capacityWhy nervous system support is not extra — it's essentialJulie shares her own personal journey of override and recalibration, and how noticing — and honoring — nervous system cues changed everything. You'll also hear about Dr. Linnea Passaler, a former surgeon who now leads a movement around emotional and nervous system healing. As the story progresses, Potter escapes prison and goes on a killing spree, Milla starts going to a psychiatrist and Lily Luca – the woman who double crossed Murdock in Europe during the Devil Takes a Ride story comes to New York looking for Murdock's help.  When Potter shows up to ruin a dinner date between Milla and Matt, Murdock figures out that someone is behind the Gladiator's recent behavior and must stop Potter from killing Milla. The story ends with Potter getting arrested and Daredevil turning his sights on the person behind Potter's behavior change… Mr. Fear. Meanwhile, in a moment of jealous anger directed toward Lily (induced in no small part by Mr Fear's gas), Milla accidentally kills a man in the subway.  That leads directly into a “Triple sized” issue 100 featuring 7 artists and a huge six-part story titled Without Fear that finishes the year and bleeds into 2008. Issue 100 will be the spotlight story this week. For this recap, Daredevil confronts Larry Cranston aka Mr Fear but Fear is able to escape and when he returns home Murdock learns Milla has been arrested for murder. As the Without Fear story continues, we see Turk is now in the employ of the Hood who has designs of his own on New York and Hell's Kitchen. Daredevil learns of a chemist who assisted Mr Fear in his latest version of the fear gas who is now dead, and Milla fails her psych evaluation and is sent to Bellevue hospital under protective custody. Milla is eventually allowed to return home with a home health nurse to monitor her actions. But then she attacks the nurse after being visited by Lily Lucca which gets her sent back to Bellevue. Hood and Fear team up for a time but disagree on “the big picture”.   Ultimately the story ends with Daredevil confronting Mr Fear and demanding a cure to Milla's condition – to which fear reveals there is no antidote.  Turning him over to Detective Krutz, Cranston confesses that he is responsible for Melvin and Milla's recent action and claims he did it to Matt Murdock because he does not like him. Lilly Lucca, who went to Murdock's home because of Mr Fear, has disappeared and Murdock tells Foggy he's responsible for ruining Milla's life.  Meanwhile, in the Daredevil Annual that was released in December, Carlos Muerto aka Black Tarantula is released on parole, and he looks up his old prison buddy, Matt Murdock, for a job and help in getting his life back in order. And though it works for a time, ultimately, they end up going their separate ways. This is a story by Ed Brubaker with Andre Parks as writer. Leo Fernandez and Scott Koblish on art.  This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil #100 October 2007 “Without Fear: Part One”  Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway The retrenchment that is going to divide comics fandom over the next two decades may have its roots here in 2007. It's just Mox and Gibbs on NAFC this week, tackling everything from America's weird sports moment—UEFA and the Olympics lighting up the States—to the absolute circus of Trump hosting a UFC event at the White House. Mox drops a few thoughts on Andor and they question the state of Star Wars fandom in general—are there any sane fans left, or is it just internet chaos? They also wonder if anyone in Hollywood is still pulling off genuine success stories these days. They speculate on the possibility of a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2—does Netflix have something real brewing, or are they just mining what's left of the hype? The guys also touch on Game Changer, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Gibbs revisiting the classic Indiana Jones movies with Zea and his daughter (their first watch). Elsewhere, Mox is poking around some Chinese fan fics and picked up Sultan's Game, while Gibbs dives into the foggy horror of The Mist. They wrap it all up with their review of Gerald's Game (2017), where things get unsettling in classic Stephen King fashion. Support us on Patreon!

Today, we're diving into a topic that might just feel like the elephant in the room for countless men trying to stay free from porn:Why does sex in marriage sometimes trigger porn cravings… instead of satisfying them?If you've ever thought:“Shouldn't sex with my wife help me fight porn cravings—not make them worse?”“Why do I feel guilty, disconnected, or even triggered after marital sex?”“Am I broken—or worse, spiritually condemned—because sex sometimes feels like a relapse?”…I want you to know you are not alone—and you're definitely not broken. In Part 1 of this powerful series, I'm sharing my own story as a man who faced this exact struggle when I got married a decade ago. For years, I wrestled with the confusion and shame of realizing that sex inside marriage can become one of the biggest triggers for porn cravings. So many Christian men—and men in general—feel blindsided when they discover that:✅ Sex in marriage can feel loaded with the same shame, secrecy, and forbiddenness as porn.✅ Healthy marital sex sometimes triggers old neural pathways wired by years of porn use.✅ Instead of satisfying you, sex can leave you craving porn more than ever.In this episode, I'm breaking down why sex in marriage can sometimes feel like a relapse, both psychologically and neurologically. We'll talk about:How porn rewires the brain to crave novelty, secrecy, and high-stimulation sexual experiences. Why real-life sex can feel underwhelming—and even triggering—compared to porn's hyperstimulating world. The emotional and spiritual confusion many Christian men feel when marital sex triggers porn cravings. You'll learn about the hidden dynamics of sexual triggers in marriage and why porn addiction recovery often requires learning to rewire your brain for connection in sex, rather than performance or secrecy. If you've felt:Foggy, guilty, or disconnected after sexTrapped in the cycle of craving porn even after intimacy with your spouseSpiritually discouraged, wondering why God hasn't “fixed this yet”…I want you to know there's hope—and a path forward. You're not condemned by God. And you're not destined for a life of sexual triggers, shame, or disconnection in your marriage. Healing is absolutely possible—both through neuroscience and through faith.Let's uncover why this happens, why you're not spiritually condemned, and how you can begin the journey toward healthy sexuality in marriage and true freedom from porn cravings.READ THE BLOG ARTICLE FOR THIS 3-PART SERIESRecommended Episodes: When Wives Become Sex Objects - Hope & HealingMy Wife Won't Have Sex With Me - What Do I Do?Sexual Desire Isn't SinSupport the showNo More Desire

Episode 71 - Murdock and Marvel: 2006 Part 2 Last week in the takeaway we talked about how 2005 had elements that pointed to a new golden age for comics, and there were elements that pointed to dangerous days ahead.  Well, if 2006 is any indication, Golden Age it is...   This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2006.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances: Daredevil #79-90, Daredevil vs Punisher #6, Daredevil: Father #5, Fantastic Four: The Wedding Special #1, Spider-Man Unlimited #12, Black Widow 2 #4-6, Playmates Toys #1, Spider-Man /Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do #4-6, Marvel Zombies #2-3, Pulse #13, Thing #3  X-Statix Presents: Dead Girl #1, I Heart Marvel: Marvel Ai #1, Marvel Team-Up #17 and 20, New Mangaverse #2, Amazing Spider-Man #530 and 534, Thunderbolts #100/105/107, Doc Samson #4, Wolverine #42, Exiles #83, Cable & Deadpool #31, Fantastic Four #539, New Avengers #22 and 24, Marvel Select Flip Magazine #16-17, Civil War #1-6, Civil War: Choosing Sides #1, Civil War: Young Avengers & Runaways #1, Civil War: Frontline #10  Writing: Brian Michael Bendis (#79-81), Ed Brubaker (#82-90)  Pencils: Alex Maleev (#79-81), Michael Lark (#82-87 and #89-90), David Aja (#88)  Inks: Alex Maleev (#79-81), Michael Lark (#82), Stefano Gaudiano (#83-87 and #89-90), David Aja (#88)  The year begins with the final three issues of The Murdock Papers from Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev.  In April, We get a new creative team and a new story arch with three parts centered around Matt Murdock in prison.  The first is entitled The Devil in Cell-Block D and in it, Brubaker and Lark do the unthinkable – while visiting Matt in prison, Foggy and their assistant Dakota are assaulted – with Foggy being stabbed while Murdock is unable to help while bring locked up in solitary confinement. The story ends with Matt Murdock frantically screaming, "His heart is still beating," over and over.  As the story continues, we see a funeral for Foggy (which Murdock is able to attend) and we see someone is running around the city in the Daredevil costume on – which does seem to help Murdock's case for not being our horned hero. In August, we see Fisk and Murdock working together to survive a prison riot and after Murdock escapes from prison with the help of the recently incarcerated Punisher.    In the finale of The Devil in Cell Block D, Murdock hunts down the other Daredevil – who turns out to be Iron Fist – who was trying to help keep Murdock's secret identity hidden. Matt decides to leave the country for Monaco to find the man responsible for having Foggy killed. But Foggy is alive and well and hiding under the witness protection program. The warden believes Matt was truly a helpless victim of Punishers and goes public with this on TV.  Next we catch up with the recently revealed to be alive Foggy Nelson in a single-issue story called “The Secret Life of Foggy Nelson. In it we see him try to reach out to Ben Urich and others but he is stopped by the FBI who are “protecting” him.  Finally, to finish off the 2006 – which bleeds into 2007 – we travel to Europe (specifically Monaco to start with) for Murdock's hunt for a lawyer, Alton Lennox, who helped “kill” Foggy Nelson entitled The Devil Takes a Ride. In it, he teams up with a mob bosses daughter who turns out to double cross him. He confronts her (and Tombstone) in Paris and tells her he's not so easily fooled. Daredevil finally finds out who has been behind everything and it turns out to be the wife of his most hated enemy, Vanessa Fisk. When Murdock confronts her in Zurich, we learn she is dying and he manipulated Murdock to get him to help free Wilson Fisk as her dying wish. Murdock initially refuses, but she knows he'll eventually agree and sets her plan in motion – killing Leland Drummond, the FBI director going after Murodck.   The Devil takes a Ride concludes with Matt finding out Foggy is still alive and also helping release the Kingpin from prison to honor Vanessa's memory. Though he has the Kingpin agree to have his U.S. Citizenship revoked and that Fisk will have to leave the country. Foggy agrees with Matt's idea to move their law firm to a new location as well as changing their business method of accepting clients from referrals only to avoid drawing attention from DD's enemies. It was also decided that Becky Blake will join their firm as a law partner (Nelson, Blake, and Murdock). Matt also moves him and Milla to a new apartment as well since too many of his enemies already knew the address of his previous apartment.  This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil #82 April 2006 “The Devil in Cell-Block D Part One”  Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway It doesn't get any better than this.  Comics in 2006 are at the top of their form both in terms of their content and their cultural impact. This week, in Part 5 of the Minerals Decoded series, we're focusing on another mineral ratio that's essential for those who feel drained, struggle with persistent fatigue, digestive issues, or mysterious allergies, and have not found answers from standard medical tests. If this sounds like you, this might be your sign to get an HTMA test and look into your sodium-to-magnesium ratio, aka the adrenal ratio. This ratio acts like a speedometer for your adrenal glands and provides key insights into your stress response and metabolic health. I start with a story about a client who was severely fatigued and experiencing multiple health issues. Through an HTMA test, we discovered that her sodium-to-magnesium ratio was extremely low, indicating sluggish adrenal activity. With targeted interventions such as adding sea salt to her diet and managing stress, she began to feel revitalized, improving her energy levels, digestion, and overall health.I also give a detailed breakdown of how both high and low sodium-to-magnesium ratios affect your body, and the difference between fast and slow oxidizers of these minerals. Understanding these imbalances can be empowering and guide you on how to better manage your health. This episode will give you some practical tips for balancing your sodium-to-magnesium ratio, including using sea salt to support sodium levels, incorporating adrenal glandulars, and finding ways to manage stress effectively. If your sodium-to-magnesium ratio is imbalanced, these tips could be game-changing for your energy levels and overall well-being. Are you a Christian woman who feels stuck, foggy, or like you just can't follow through—no matter how many times you start again? This isn't about laziness. And it's definitely not just about willpower. In this episode, we're diving into 1 Thessalonians 5 and how “being clearheaded” isn't just about avoiding alcohol... but about the physical, emotional, and spiritual fog that's created by the foods we constantly run to for comfort. The Church rarely talks about this—but it's a battle that's keeping thousands of faith-led women stuck in cycles of exhaustion, shame, and missed purpose. If you've ever said: “I don't know why food has such a hold on me.” “I keep starting over.” “I just want to feel better, but I can't stick with it.” …this one is for you.

Send us a textAre you feeling exhausted, irritable, foggy-brained, or experiencing night sweats that leave you drenched? These symptoms aren't just "part of getting older" – they're signs of hormonal changes that can be effectively treated. In this eye-opening conversation, Dr. Val Schulte joins midwives Missi and Cara to demystify perimenopause and menopause with straightforward, evidence-based information that healthcare providers often miss."I can't describe how excited I am about today," says Missi at the start, acknowledging that many midwives received minimal education about menopause, especially after the Women's Health Initiative study created widespread fear around hormone therapy. Dr. Schulte, who transitioned from traditional OBGYN practice to focusing on hormone therapy and lifestyle medicine, shares how her own perimenopausal symptoms sparked her passion for helping women navigate this transition. The conversation dives deep into practical aspects of hormone testing and treatment options. Dr. Schulte explains how bioidentical progesterone can improve sleep and mood, why testosterone (often overlooked in women) dramatically affects energy and libido, and how proper estrogen therapy protects heart, brain, and bone health. She details the advantages of different delivery methods – from daily creams to pellet therapy that slowly releases hormones over months – and dispels myths about hormone risks. What makes this episode especially valuable is the real-talk about symptoms many women experience but rarely discuss: brain fog that interferes with work, anxiety that appears out of nowhere, joint pain, changes in body odor, even ridges in fingernails. Dr. Schulte connects these seemingly unrelated issues to hormonal fluctuations and offers solutions beyond the standard "here's an antidepressant" approach many providers default to.Whether you're approaching perimenopause, in the thick of menopause, or supporting someone who is, this conversation provides clarity and hope. As Missy realizes toward the end, "I do not have to feel this way for another five years."
