New Zealand or Canada? Which is the best country to live in? New Zealand and Canada are amongst the top destinations that people choose to emigrate to. In this podcast and video, we talk about why we (a wife, husband and two small kids) chose to move to New Zealand over Canada and whether we regretted any of the decisions that we made. New Zealand Or Canada? How We Chose The One For Us Where shall we live kids? Canada or New Zealand? The year was 2008 and we were living in the UK. My husband and I were desperate to leave the UK for various reasons and we had our immigration application logged with the Canadian Embassy. And then I (Liz) took a trip over to New Zealand to visit my sister and everything changed. The papers for Canada were cancelled and within a year we found ourselves living in New Zealand Although we made a few major mistakes within our first year, we were soon mastering the New Zealand slang words and fitting right in. I (Liz) and my sister ran the Twin Cities Marathon last Sunday, and we're itching to talk all about it. Did we hit the wall? Get distracted by bottomless mimosas and brass bands? Did anyone get the Game of Thrones reference on the cheering sign I made? Let's find out! Note: In the podcast Julia asks if Tony held up the sign I made for anyone else. When I asked him later, he did, and at least two people said something! One of which yelled, "I love your sign!" Subtitle: Dear Diary, Why is Liz Making Me Do This? Straight to number 8, with a bullet! We've made bullet journals people, or at least one of us has. Find out which one, what a bullet journal actually is (maybe?), what Liz regularly eats for breakfast and what our very special guest did on March 16, 2017. Plus we talk a lot about Chex mix juice. Keywords/possible drinking game: Chex mix juice, my monthly, dear diary The Bull-jit-jo In a shaker combine: Juice of one lime 15 mint leaves 20 blackberries 1 Tbsp sugar 4 oz Bulleit bourbon Crush the berries a little bit with a muddle or wooden spoon. Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain. Pour over ice and top with a splash of ginger beer. Links The official Bullet Journal website. This is a good place to start. You can read about the basics but I found the most helpful thing was to watch a couple videos so you can really see things put in action. This is the video from the official site and I also found this video very helpful. We both bought fancy pants Leuchtturm notebooks, the dotted variety, which come with prenumbered pages and a dedicated index. Also, this is just a very nice notebook. Did I mention it was fancy pants? PS, I highly encourage you to click the link above. This fancy pants notebook comes in a wide array of fancy pants colors. It is a sight to behold. I (Liz) also treated myself to the following accoutrements: And now, the moment you've been waiting for: Liz's bujo! Complete with wine stain. And for real people, I will make a video of this shit, just say the word! I only need the slightest bit of encouragement. Other Business: Recipe Jenny used for her amazing Chex Mix juice roast Grilled Shredded Wheat At the beginning of the episode Liz talked about her dad's recipe for grilled shredded wheat which he thought should be included as a family recipe. While it's not Liz's recipe it is definitely a good, wholesome, comforting breakfast and if you're in the mood for something hella old timey you can't go wrong with shredded wheat! And Liz was correct when she said credit for this recipe actually goes to her dad's dad. It was one of the few dishes in his repertoire and we must give him his due! First of all, buy this: Spread butter on either side of a shredded wheat biscuit. Poor about 1/2 cup of water into one end of the biscuit and let it run out the other. Repeat. Fry in a skillet over medium heat until golden, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and repeat on other side. Serve in a bowl, sprinkled with sugar, with cold milk. Today’s show was recorded the day before David Bowie’s death. It was the day after I (Liz) heard “Under Pressure” in its entirety for the first time, and I haven’t stopped listening to it since. I mention in this episode that most of what I knew about David Bowie is from his performance in Labyrinth, […]
