This week, we lace up our Doc Martins and hike over to the Pacific Northwest to the home of GRUNGE! We discuss bands outside the usual suspects of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam. Your hosts fondly remember this time, as we were young adults when the Seattle scene invaded all US rock n' roll avenues. In retrospect, this sounds like less of a movement and more of a melting pot of many of the genres that had been established in silos during the 70s and 80s. Don't think you like grunge? Then check this out! This episode features songs from bands outside the big 4 of grunge, but we don't think you'll be totally surprised. Many of these groups had similarities with the producers that were chosen, namely, Jack Endino. A perfect amalgam of punk, classic rock, and metal is right in Captain Content and Kevin's wheelhouse. As usual, we have a lot of fun reminiscing about this unique time in rock history. Jump on the hike with us to grab a Starbucks, and don't forget your flannel!Songs this week include:Green River – “Swallow My Pride” from Dry As A Bone / Rehab Doll (1987)The Nymphs – “Death Of A Scenester” from Nymphs (1991)Dig – “I'll Stay High” from Dig (1993)Mammoth Volume – “Matador” from Noara Dance (2000)Tripping Daisy – “Rocketpop” from I Am An Elastic Firecracker (1995)Coffin Break – “So Long To Reality” from Thirteen (1992)Smash Atoms – “Into The Light” from Smash Atoms (2024)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria Store
Metal and hard rock stars Diamanda Galás, Lamb of God's Randy Blythe, Inger Lorre and Malevolence frontman Alex Taylor discuss balancing the emotion with the noise, recording in Charlie Chaplin's studio, and how an artist's duty is to reflect the times. Alex Taylor is the lead singer of the heavy metal band Malevolence, from Sheffield in the UK. They're known for their ferocious sound and live shows, and have supported some of the biggest names in heavy metal including Trivium, Architects and Lamb of God. Singer, pianist and avant-garde luminary Diamanda Galás has gained a huge cult following for her violently compassionate music and stunning four-octave vocal range. American singer Inger Lorre fronted the seminal glam-punk band Nymphs in the 1990s. She is an underground icon and has worked with the likes of Jeff Buckley and Iggy Pop. Randy Blythe is a true legend of heavy metal who is the frontman of one of the genre's most important bands of the last 30 years, Lamb of God. His band have released 10 studio albums and taken their thunderous sound to sold-out stages across the world.

Catch this classic episode of a terrific talk show from the first year of Radio Titans in our Hollywood days, hosted by one of Koz's all-time favorite singer/songwriters, Joie Blaney of Dead Blonde Girlfriend: Francis Coyote Shivers was born in Toronto, Canada, where as a teenager produced the first Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet single, of which the b-side became the theme to the hit TV show The Kids in the Hall (1988). Coyote went on to produce their next two albums before handing the dials over to producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, etc.). Coyote Shivers played guitar in the instrumental rock band Sharkskin (eventually releasing three EPs, and the "Greatest Hits" CD compilation) before moving to Los Angeles with famed record producer Daniel Lanois(U2, Bob Dylan, etc.), who later would produce Coyote's "Sugarhigh" for the Empire Records (1995) soundtrack. He then packed up and moved to Amsterdam, where he bought a boat and lived in the canals until fate brought our hero to New York City to play guitar for The Dave Rave Conspiracy, who went down in rock history as the first non-Soviet band signed to the Soviet state-run record label "Melodyia" just after the fall of the Berlin wall. Soon after The Dave Rave Conspiracy split, Coyote appeared in the film Johnny Mnemonic (1995) with Keanu Reeves, Ice-T, and Henry Rollins, and then went on to star in Empire Records (1995) with Renée Zellweger, Liv Tyler and Ethan Embry. You can also see Coyote in a cameo appearance in Smut (1999). Returning to New York City, he enlisted Billy Ficca on drums (Richard Hell and The Neon Boys' drummer, not to mention a member of the seminal New York band Television). Jack Pedler' eventually took over on drums, and along with Dagon Spector on bass, Coyote released his first solo album (the self titled "Coyote Shivers"), critically acclaimed by a diverse spectrum of media, ranging from Billboard Magazine to Screw Magazine, and from Sassy to High Times. Debbie Harry's bass player, Greta Brinkman, eventually took over on bass guitar, until Coyote formed his most recent lineup featuring Chad Stewart (Faster Pussycat) on drums, and Casper on bass. Greta went on to then play bass for Moby. After a stint as the opening act on the KISS reunion tour, Coyote began writing songs for his forthcoming second album, releasing limited edition CD singles and the 5-song CD "1/2 a Rock & Roll Record", spending most of his time between Hollywood and New York City. Coyote recently finished starring in Down and Out with the Dolls (2001) directed by Kurt Voss and also starring Lemmy of Phil Campbell and Inger Lorre of the Nymphs. Coyote also just finished starring in director Luis Aira's Girl in 3D (2003).
