In this episode, Chance and Dylan dive deep into the many identities hidden behind the name “Moses.”We explore how ancient authors described Moses in the plural, why his story echoes across multiple cultures, and how the archetype of the persecuted child appears everywhere from Greece to Egypt. The conversation uncovers striking parallels between Moses, Bacchus, and other mythic river-gods, revealing the importance of water symbolism, astro-theology, and cyclical creation myths. We also examine the roles of the Muses and Nymphs, the Egyptian influence on biblical narratives, and the allegorical layers beneath the Exodus tradition. This episode blends mythology, philology, and ancient history, showing how deeply interconnected these stories truly are — and how the figure of Moses reflects a much older, broader, and more universal mythic pattern.EXTENDED EPISODE FOR MEMBERS ONLYPatreon - https://www.patreon.com/posts/144912153Substack - https://innerversepodcast.substack.com/p/the-many-faces-of-moses-and-the-greekYT - https://youtu.be/Y89lcpoahwcLINKSBiofield Tuning with Chance: https://www.innerversepodcast.com/sound-healingSpirit Whirled Audiobooks: https://www.innerversepodcast.com/audiobooksDylan Saccoccio on Substack: https://www.substack.com/greattideSUPPORT

On this elemental episode of Earthling Entertainment, Joe & Ryan are talking about those forest dwelling female-formed spirits known as Nymphs. Then, more secrets of the Buga Sphere are being uncovered every day. Could this mysterious object really be from a non-human civilization? Additionally, if you're a werewolf, you should stay the hell out of Utah. We'll tell you why, and a whole lot more, on this week's Earthling Entertainment podcast!
This week, we lace up our Doc Martins and hike over to the Pacific Northwest to the home of GRUNGE! We discuss bands outside the usual suspects of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam. Your hosts fondly remember this time, as we were young adults when the Seattle scene invaded all US rock n' roll avenues. In retrospect, this sounds like less of a movement and more of a melting pot of many of the genres that had been established in silos during the 70s and 80s. Don't think you like grunge? Then check this out! This episode features songs from bands outside the big 4 of grunge, but we don't think you'll be totally surprised. Many of these groups had similarities with the producers that were chosen, namely, Jack Endino. A perfect amalgam of punk, classic rock, and metal is right in Captain Content and Kevin's wheelhouse. As usual, we have a lot of fun reminiscing about this unique time in rock history. Jump on the hike with us to grab a Starbucks, and don't forget your flannel!Songs this week include:Green River – “Swallow My Pride” from Dry As A Bone / Rehab Doll (1987)The Nymphs – “Death Of A Scenester” from Nymphs (1991)Dig – “I'll Stay High” from Dig (1993)Mammoth Volume – “Matador” from Noara Dance (2000)Tripping Daisy – “Rocketpop” from I Am An Elastic Firecracker (1995)Coffin Break – “So Long To Reality” from Thirteen (1992)Smash Atoms – “Into The Light” from Smash Atoms (2024)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria Store

Read transcriptJan is on hiatus this week, so it's a welcome return to Mr Stuart Lawler, a man who puts the “Hot” into Tango. It's 30 years since Stuart was on the Irish Eurovision Song Contest jury and boy are we happy they never asked him back. Secret Garden were the winners for Norway that year with a song that can only be described as: mostly violin! But what happened this year in Basel, Switzerland? Did Celine Dion turn up singing a medley of her hit? Did the Swedish businessmen get hot and sweaty in the sauna? Is Lithuania's guitar player just a U2 wanna-be? And did the UK get any votes at all? Let's find out as we join Kevin Sherwin live from his jacuzzi (he really just farts in the bath)! To find out how the Eurovision final went last Saturday, May 17th. Óran and Stuart are standing on their respective soapboxes as Sky TV don't seem to be doing a whole lot when it comes to providing AD services on Sky Stream or on their ‘On Demand' service. Is it time to throw Dave Nason under the bus (again) on this one!? (We love you Dave – a voice note would be very welcome - Clo) In TV corner, have you seen ‘Mad Men' with AD on Netflix? or Cassandra? or how about the new season of Black Mirror? Give us your views on the quality of the AD on these programmes, or on whatever you're watching, by emailing blindguyschat@gmail.com. At long last the Meta AI ‘look and describe' feature has come to Ireland! Woohoo!! Óran can't stop asking the glasses to describe his guide dog Larry. Apparently, he defecates on the grass. Larry that is, not Óran! Have you tried the look and tell feature? Let us know what you think: blindguyschat@gmail.com Stuart is heading off to Sight City in Frankfurt; are you going? Stuart talks to us about booking a sighted guide at the event, and the new remote assistance option for those attending. Finally, we have news on the Glide from Glidence. There will be a demo day at the Wayfinding Centre in Dublin on June 7, early booking is recommended, before Larry and his friends break it! So, strip off your sweat-drenched sauna suit; stop straddling that microphone - you could do yourself an injury; pour yourself a macchiato and settle in for a podcast full of enjoyment, with no jokes, sarcasm or any kind of wit at all! Yeah right!!!
For our Season 15 Intermission, my wife, Becky, joins me for a lighthearted look at what's going on in the Troutbitten world. There are gardens that dazzle. There are gardens that soothe. And then there are gardens that haunt you. That lodge themselves in the corners of your mind and whisper to you years after you've gone. Today, I want to tell you about one of those. A place where history and nature have coiled so tightly around each other, it's hard to tell where stone ends and blossom begins. This is Ninfa - The Garden of the Nymphs. Located just south of Rome, near Cisterna di Latina, Ninfa is unlike anywhere else.Diarmuid Gavin, Garden Designer tells us all about these wonderful gardens. All with thanks to Tirlán.

Shel O'Toole emailed: "Hi Marc, I usually listen to your show when I'm working from home but podcast # 681 Lady of the House I saved for my drive back home from a visit to my sister. Listening to the music brought memories of my father who played numerous instruments, solo and with others. The banjo was my favourite (which Is probably why I play banjo), followed by the accordion, he had both button and piano accordions, and the fiddle. He also played harmonica, piano and even the gum leaf (definitely an Australian thing). I took my father's violin which I had restored recently so my sister could see it for herself. It was in a terrible state when it came to me but its voice is restored and it's very pleasant. Now the challenge of learning to play. I look forward to the podcast every week, so thanks Marc for all you do and for the magic you create in weaving together the music of Ireland and the music influenced by Ireland and the stories of the people who are touched by the force of the Celts. Warm regards"
The Ancient Greeks believed they existed before the dawn of time, yet they're a mystery to most, so, for this week's Bonus Episode we're exploring the long and complex history of Nymphs!Part of the "Three Ravens Bestiary" series, we start off discussing the roles Nymphs played in the Greco-Roman pantheon, including how they were classified and eventually used, in Imperial projects, to present local and regional gods of pagan cultures, such as the Celts and Britons, as less powerful than the Olympians. This then sees us look at examples of some ancient genius loci from across England, including those found in shrines at Hadrian's Wall, where some local deities defied the odds and survived well into Christianization, later becoming recognised as Saints. From there we head in two directions - firstly, forward, via Chaucer, Marvell and Shakespeare, into a place where Nymphs and Faeries got a little bit muddled up in the British mindset. After that, we journey back to the start, exploring how writers like Hesiod, Homer, and many others, developed and contributed to the collective idea of 'Nymph Lore' - the roles Nymphs played in city foundation, how they were worshiped, and what 'Nympholepsy' - Nymph Madness - was, and why some people sought it out! Via discussions of the 18th century invention of the idea of 'Nymphomania' - in contrast with other misogynistic (and anti-British) ideas such as Tacitus' characterisation of the Roman Witch Empress Messalina, the vengeful Iceni Queen Boudica, and figures like Britannicus, we wash up in the present day - a time when being called a "nymph" seems to have nothing to do with nature spirits, and much more to do with systems of power and control...The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. On this week's episode Martin is whisking us up to Worcestershire in England's West Midlands and telling us his take on the legend of "The Malvern Ogre."We start off chatting about what Martin calls 'a proper saint' - his namesake, St Martin - including his life as a goose-bothering wandering necromancer and the strange part-bloody, part-weather related traditions associated with today's festival of Martinmas. After that we set off for Worcestershire, a sometimes overlooked county with extraordinarily rich history and folklore to be found in just about every corner. We discuss topics including the very frequently-destroyed County Town of Worcester, the county's plethora of standing stones and its fractious past, then Martin grabs up his bottle of Worcestershire Sauce and chats through the county's extremely rich culinary heritage, and its offal-centred ancient delicacy, Tenbury Pie, for this week's County Dish.As for folklore, interspersed with some excerpts from next Saturday's Local Legends interview with Worcestershire local, folklorist and author Hugh Williams, we talk about the county's resident centaur, its fairies, black dog legend, a spontaneously combusting witch from Kidderminster, and much more besides. Then it's on to the main event: Martin's story, "The Malvern Ogre" which, in a change of pace from recent weeks, is a jolly tale about people-eating monsters, personal hygiene, and the magical power of kindness. We hope you enjoy it, and will be back on Thursday with a new Three Ravens Bestiary bonus episode about Nymphs and, if you're a Patreon supporter, our November Patreon Exclusive episode about The Medway Megaliths, all ahead of Saturday's full Local Legends chat with Hugh! The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. On this episode of Untangled, Spencer Durrant will walk you through four advanced nymphing strategies to help you go from lucking into fish every now and then, to consistently catching tons of fish on nymphs. If you don't rig your flies correctly, you won't catch fish. Alright, that's a bit dramatic - but it's not far off from the truth! The way your flies are rigged impacts your ability to present them in as realistic a way as possible. And since our goal is to fool fish into thinking our fake fly is the real thing, you can see how important it is to correctly rig your flies. In this episode, Spencer Durrant walks you through how he rigs his dries, nymphs, and streamers, sharing the exact steps he uses after 20 years of fly fishing, a few years of guiding, and teaching thousands of new anglers here at VFC. You'll also learn about: How to correctly size tippet for multi-fly rigs The best flies to start with when you begin your day on the water Tips for casting in the wind How to tell what size and type certain flies are LINKS FROM THE SHOW DOWNLOAD - Rigs & Knots Pocket Guide - CHECK IT OUT
What the heck is a dry fly? And what are nymphs for? And what about streamers - those are party decorations, right? So, why would anyone fish with that? Add a Little Crunch to Your Diet with Cicadas: USA insect emergence offers a unique culinary experience. Will you try? THE WORLD OF CICADAS Insects have long been a part of traditional diets worldwide, with cicadas being one such edible insect. In this guide, we'll explore the fascinating world of cicadas, including their nutritional value, life cycle, and how to safely harvest, store, and prepare them for consumption. Cicadas belong to the superfamily Cicadidae and are known for their robust bodies, broad heads, transparent wings, and distinct compound eyes. With over 3,000 known species, cicadas are divided into annual and periodical cicadas. Periodical cicadas, like Brood XIX, spend most of their lives underground and emerge every 13 or 17 years in synchronized broods. Nutritional Value of Cicadas Cicadas are a valuable source of nutrition, containing high levels of protein and essential amino acids. Studies have shown that cicadas contain more protein than pork and eggs, with low levels of fat and elevated levels of healthy fats like polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), according to the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. How To Find, Prepare and Store Cicadas Finding cicadas requires patience and observation. They are typically found in areas with abundant vegetation, and their emergence can be observed around and after sunset. Nymphs, teneral cicadas, and mature adults can all be found during different stages of their life cycle Before harvesting cicadas, it's crucial to consider safety measures to avoid contamination and ensure freshness. Cicadas can be stored in the freezer for up to a year, and they should be de-winged and blanched before cooking to remove any dirt or pathogens. Cicadas are native to our area and have been coexisting with their ecosystems for eons and eons.
Welcome to Occult of Personality: esoteric podcast extraordinaire. I'm Greg Kaminsky. Now, in episode number 225, author P.D. Newman returns to the show after an eight year hiatus to discuss his recent book Theurgy: Theory & Practice—The Mysteries of the Ascent to the Divine, Homeric Epics, the Chaldean Oracles, and Neoplatonic Ritual - https://www.amazon.com/Theurgy-Theory-Practice-Mysteries-Ascent/dp/164411836X/.This interview was a real treat because P.D. Newman gives us a great depth of insight into the history, theory, and methods of theurgy—magic of the gods! There were some technical issues with the recording that I did my best to work around. My apologies for that but I know that the content of the conversation more than makes up for it."P. D. Newman has been immersed in the study and practice of alchemy and theurgy for more than two decades. A member of the Masonic Fraternity, the Society of Rosicrucians, and the Martinist Order, he lectures internationally and has published articles in many esoteric journals, including The Scottish Rite Journal, The Masonic Society Journal, and Invisible College. The author of Alchemically Stoned and Angels in Vermilion, Newman lives in Tupelo, Mississippi."The research Newman did in support of this book is really astounding and quite interesting. His scholarship has really made it clear that theurgy as we understand it did not originate in the second century A.D. but has its roots in beginningless time. Furthermore, the understanding of this activity and its context is laid out beautifully in a way that is both scholarly and valuable for practitioners. For me, what made the book so special was that contemplating the implications of his arguments helped me to see and understand that the way I defined theurgy was limiting and inaccurate, but with Newman's words, I can more fully appreciate what is known as the Western esoteric tradition. I heartily recommend Theurgy: Theory & Practice, just like all of Newman's books."In this detailed study, P. D. Newman pushes the roots of theurgy all the way back to before the time of Homer. He shows how the Chaldean Oracles were not only written in Homeric Greek but also in dactylic hexameter, the same meter as the epics of Homer. Linking the Greek shamanic practices of the late Archaic period with the theurgic rites of late antiquity, the author explains how both anabasis, soul ascent, and katabasis, soul descent, can be considered varieties of shamanic soul flight and how these practices existed in ancient Greek culture prior to the influx of shamanic influence from Thrace and the Hyperborean North. The author explores the many theurgic themes and symbolic events in the Odyssey and the Iliad, including the famous journey of Odysseus to Hades and the incident of the funeral pyre of Patroclus. He presents a close analysis of On the Cave of the Nymphs, Porphyry's commentary on Homer's Odyssey, as well as a detailed look at Proclus's symbolic reading of Homer's Iliad, showing how both of these Neoplatonists describe the philosophical theory and the technical ritual praxis of theurgy. Using the Chaldean Oracles as a case study, Newman examines in detail the methods of telestikē, a form of theurgic statue animation, linking this practice to ancient Egyptian and Greek traditions as well as theurgic techniques to divinize the soul." Max and Tina discuss Charmed season five, episode nineteen: Nymphs Just Wanna Have Fun
In this episode of Anchored, I had the pleasure of hosting Lucy Bowden, the visionary founder of Fishing For Everyone, established in 2005. Hailing from Britain, Lucy is not just an angling coach but a passionate angler who discovered her love for the sport at the tender age of five. What sets Lucy apart is her unwavering belief that fishing should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or ability. Her dedication to breaking down barriers and encouraging inclusivity within the angling community is truly inspiring. As a prominent female angler, Lucy has become a beacon for women in the sport, motivating countless individuals to take up fishing. Her founding principle was simple yet profound: to provide everyone with the opportunity to experience the joy of fishing in a safe and supportive environment. We discuss Lucy's remarkable journey, making silly decisions in our twenties, private land, coaching, stillwater fishing in the UK, and the empowering ethos behind Fishing For Everyone. I'd like to take a moment to highlight Skip Morris' latest publication, "Top 12 Nymphs for Trout Streams: How, When, and Where to Fish Them." Morris doesn't just stop there; he shares invaluable tips on how to fish each fly efficiently, including the optimal depth, the best times for fishing, and various proven fishing methods. The book also includes a section to aid in selecting the right fly for specific conditions and choosing the most effective method for presenting it to trout. (Related: if Microsoft buys AB, Sony will not give AB advanced access to PS6) Xbox Cloud Gaming was promoted as a way to get Xbox in front of 3 billion more eyeballs, but it's been used as a way for Xbox console users to test new games before they buy them. Sony's PlayStation boss came off badly during the hearings. Microsoft considered "spending Sony out of business." If this deal fails, it should do just that AB demanded a better revenue share and threatened to pull COD off Xbox otherwise. They had no choice, so AB gets an 80/20 revenue split instead of the usual 70/30. Blackmail! Microsoft considered buying over 100 separate companies to gain a foothold in mobile gaming (and overall). Devin Olsen has been a member of Fly Fishing Team USA since 2006, winning individual bronze and team silver in the 2015 World Fly Fishing Championships in Bosnia. Once a salmon and steelhead biologist in Joseph, Oregon, Devon is a wealth of knowledge. In this episode of Anchored we discuss how he got in to competitive fly fishing, how it's structured, and how he used it to become the angler he is today. We discuss nymph specifics, lach fishing, history, temperature gradients, and more. Speaking of nymphs, we've also recently added a 12-part series featuring Skip Morris to anchored outdoors.com. Skip's latest book, Top 12 Nymphs for Trout Streams, How, When, and Where to Fish Them, focuses on fly-fishing and tying flies, guides you through 12 great nymph-flies and how to catch trout on them in creeks, streams, and rivers. Accompanying a color photograph of each fly, Skip shares about each fly—what it imitates, what it's designed to do, what it does do in the water—and then he tells you how to fish it effectively, when it fishes best, how deep in the water to fish it, and offers the different fishing methods that make it catch fish. He describes those methods plainly, so you can go right out and make them work. He even provides a section that helps you select the right fly for specific fishing conditions and choose the best method for presenting that fly to trout. We have a fun conversation for this episode, about what's more difficult — nymphs or dry flies. This is not a talk about which tactic is better. And this discussion isn't even about which one we might like more. What is more difficult? Nymphs or dries? This is a valuable exercise and an important discussion . . .Just because nymphing might usually produce more trout, doesn't mean it is easier. And how many trout we catch on each style is not the point. Try getting true, convincing dead drifts on a nymph. It is, quite simply, harder to achieve than a dry fly, because you can't see success on the invisible flies underneath, and because the complexity of currents is far more intricate in three dimensions. But many people just don't take it that far with nymphing. They think their drifts are good enough, because they caught a few fish (maybe more than they did on dries.) But excellent nymphing requires excellent effort. And a lot more trout can be caught by acknowledging that kind of difficulty. The ceiling is high. And realizing that is the value of this discussion. We Cover the FollowingThe confusing boundaries of this conversationWhy anglers are protective of what they like bestHow that holds an angler backTight line complexitiesDry fly complexitiesWhere bias comes fromA few streamer thoughts. . . and moreResourcesREAD: Troutbitten | The Nymph Angler is SustainableREAD: Troutbitten | The George Harvey Leader DesignREAD: Troutbitten | That's Not a Dead DriftPODCAST: Troutbitten | Find Your Rabbit HoleVisitTroutbitten WebsiteTroutbitten InstagramTroutbitten YouTubeTroutbitten FacebookThank You to Pre-Roll Ad Sponsors:Precision Fly and Tackle Use code TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order at Precision.andOrvis
