“Part II of II! - Like I said with the previous mix this has been a really special show with a lot of great music put into it, and honestly a weirdly very different feel from the first half. A bit more sombre in parts. More subtle EQing. Less effects. Longer mixes. But still heavy on the sampling and Afro House… I hope you enjoy! (You can listen to the full 2 hour mix on Soundcloud - @totemxcii when it's uploaded next week and the full video on YouTube soon after) - TØTEM” ⚡️Like the Show? Happy Valentine's Day 2021...we could all use a little more love in our lives. It starts with us. Lead with love!
You may remember this guest from season two of NBC's hit show, The Voice but I got to meet Jamar Rogers for the first time in Boston, at an LGBTQ Youth Conference for QTBIPOC. At first, I wasn't sure why he made the decision to be at a youth conference for queer folks of color, but as I would later learn from hanging out with him is that we had a lot more in common than not. We talked about Jamar's reaction to my gender nonconformingness, coming out, music, spirituality, and the power of love. Guest Bio: Music is his truest form of expression. From singing on the church stage as a child to performing on NBC’s highest-rated reality show, The Voice, music has always been a part of Jamar Rogers, as he found the art medium to be the most powerful unifier there is. Rogers uses music to tell stories and connect his heart’s broken pieces. After overcoming an addiction to crystal meth, he was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 2005 and have since used his story and newfound status to spread a message of love and awareness. In 2009, after receiving considerable TV time on American Idol, he became a contestant on NBC's show, The Voice, in 2012. Known as "The Comeback Kid”, he finished as a semi-finalist and hit the ground running. He has guest starred in: The Ellen Show, BET’s 106 & Park, The Tonight Show, SNL, CNN and The Expresso Show in South Africa. He has also been featured in USA Today, The New York Post and Rolling Stone. The Root named Rogers as one of their 100 Most Influential African-Americans. Jamar Rogers entered the world on March 1, 1982 to a single mother in New Orleans. Growing up, Jamar showed tremendous talent for singing as early as six years of age, but soon fell prey to the emotional problems that come with growing up in a fatherless household and became addicted to drugs to fill the missing piece. As his life began to spiral out of control, the unthinkable happened; Jamar was declared HIV positive. Completely broken, Jamar somehow found the light in the darkest time of his life and began to turn things around. After six years of being clean from crystal meth, Jamar auditioned for The Voice and “the rest is history,” as they say. Since becoming a finalist on The Voice, Jamar has appeared on popular shows such asThe Today Show, Ellen, CNN, E! Entertainment News, MTV News, HLN’s Showbiz Tonight, USA Today, People Magazine, US Weekly, Billboard, Rolling Stone.com,The Hollywood Reporter, The Huffington Post, POZ Magazine, Popcrush, Sway In The Morning, Positively AwareMagazine and many more! Currently, Jamar is recording an album set for release this fall and recently dropped a new single on iTunes called “Where Would I Be Without You.” In addition to recording, he is touring across the country packing out venues, while drawing crowds of all ages with his soulful voice. He is actively working in his community to demystify HIV/AIDS along with doing his best to spread a message of hope and second chances to a generation of young people.
On Sunday September 30th at 9pm EST Danielle Rogers aka “Mama D” will be sharing what it is like to be a parent of an HIV+ child. Danielle embraced the “learning how to make lemonade from lemons” mentality very early in life. As a child she endured a turbulent household and parental instability which meant little encouragement; while emotional abuse defined her daily life. She therefore, developed an inferiority complex and a sense of worthlessness. As an adult she conceded estrangement from her adult child (Jamar Rogers) who suffered through the self-destructive pain of a six year drug addiction and reckless living. He ultimately contracted HIV. Her son, Jamar Rogers was a recent contestant on The Voice and publicly broke down barriers of stigma by revealing his HIV status on national television. Danielle supported him by showing unconditional love through out his reign on the show. Danielle is an inspirational speaker, writer, mentor, parent-coach and motivator. However, her greatest love and achievement to date, is her cherished role as the mother of two vivacious, gifted, well-respected adult children and “GrandDiva” to two little princesses! We will be taking your questions for Danielle at 347-215-9442 throughout the show.
This Friday May 4th at 12pm EST the POZ I AM Radio show hosts Robert Breining and Jack Mackenroth will be speaking with Jamar Rogers about his time as a contestant on The Voice. We also want to encourage all of Jamars Family (He calls his fans his family) to call into the live show at 347-215-9442 and share their feelings about Jamars journey. You can also tweet us @POZIAM with your questions for Jamar. We may ask them on air. This past Tuesday brought the end of the road for four contestants on The Voice, none more shocking to us than our friend Jamar Rogers. With only eight singers left in the competition heading into the elimination Tuesday , Jamar faced teammate Juliet Simms in a battle to represent Team Cee Lo in the finals. Cee Lo gave 60 points to Juliet Simms and 40 ponts to Jamar Rogers. When combined with America's vote, the final result of 121-79 in favor of Juliet. So our friend Jamar may not of won the title of the The Voice but he definitely won the hearts of America. Listen to our first interview with Jamar after disclosing his HIV status on The Voice here or read the transcripts of that interview here.
