Swords to Plowshares started through a partnership with Newtown Action Alliance, the Episcopal Church, the UCC, and the New Haven Police Department. Three years ago, the Rev. Jeremy Lucas won an AR-15 in a raffle for a softball team and destroyed the gun and turned it into a gardening tool with the help of Raw Tools Inc. He dedicated that gardening tool to the Newtown Action Alliance, which led to a conversation about change in Connecticut around turning guns into gardening tools. Three weeks after leaving Birmingham, Alabama and moving to New York City to become a priest, Jeremy found himself walking into hell. He soon realized that he could never go home again. There was no going back, only forward into an unknown future. Jeremy took the scenic route from Alabama to Portland via Namibia in South West Africa, and works as an Episcopal priest in Lake Oswego.
