In typical Homebrewed fashion, this pod is a little bit hampered by technology. Curse our enemies at the NBN (decide which one!)In this episode we break down the latest report into the Nighttime Economy in NSW. The report finds that better transport and safety in required to get more people attending events. It also finds that reducing Government red tape is crucial for allowing venues to apply for DA's to transform their hospitality business into one suitable for live. music. We also get sad over the fact that Vance Joy is no longer in the renewed ARIA charts, and then get even sadder when we realise that ZERO Australian artists made the top 50 singles charts. We also look at the NRL and AFL's decisions over their grand final entertainment. Thanks for listening! If you aren't familiar with these guys yet, you're jumping on the bandwagon at just the right time!Playlunch are a seven piece band from Melbourne who describe their music as 'bogan funk'.We're joined by Liam Bell, Austin Richards, Michael D'Emilio from the band to chat about their sophomore album 'Sex Ed', which has plenty of references to Australian culture. We chat about the rules of schoolyard handball, explain the term 'monkey grab', and get into the weeds of how a band with seven members can effectively create very good music which is funny at its core.We also play a round of Aussie nostalgia 'this or that'.Thanks for listening! As promised, we've got a fortnightly dose of music news ready for your dutiful consumption. In this episode, we kick off with a brief update on the endlessly entertaining lawsuit unfolding between Drake and Universal Music over Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us'. Next, we get into the weeds as the NSW Government's festival funding is accused of backing the wrong horses. Spotify is also back on our radar (it never leaves) as artists like Aussie legends King Gizz stage yet another exodus over CEO Daniel Ek's investment in AI weapons. While we're on the topic, examine ARIA's cozying up to the streaming giant and the implications of that partnership for artists. Thanks for listening! After a couple of weeks navigating new, busy schedules, milestone events and rescheduled interviews, we're back with a big dose of the Music News. In this episode, we attempt to explain our less-than-consistent release schedule over the last fortnight before checking in on a brand new all Australian digital radio station coming out of... Commercial radio?! Next, we unpack the predictable but disappointing news that the AFL have once again ignored homegrown talent for their Grand Final entertainment, with Snoop Dogg booked to perform at the penultimate fixture this year. All eyes on the NRL now. AI is also back in the news, but this time our own federal government is suggesting we relax copyright laws so big tech can scrape our creative industries. This all coming before Australia enacts a single piece of AI regulation. Expect an earful on this one. Finally, we discuss the epic Rolling Sets lineup for 2025. Save the 6th of December in your calendar for the Central Coast's biggest live music event; and understand that Tweed Heads is now our regional enemy. Cheers. Thanks for listening! Our first ever 'live' edition of the Music News! In this episode we react to triple j's Hottest 100 of Australian Songs (including some hot takes), before discussing the disappointing news that the Coastal Twist Festival set to be held in Umina Beach has suffered a major setback, seemingly out of nowhere, and seemingly because of the NRL Grand Final. Make it make sense. We finish the episode with some recordings we took at the Full Bloom launch event at Laycock Street Theatre on Tuesday night. We chat with CCMA Chair Greg Carey, Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch MP, Owner of the Grove Studios Scott Horscroft, Spacey Jane bass player Peppa Lane, and triple j presenter and Coast FM alumni Angus Hamill. It's jam-packed, so give it a listen, chuck us a follow, and leave a lovely review if you enjoy the podcast! Thanks for listening! We've been sharing and talking about their music since 2018, so it's safe to say we're thrilled to be chatting to Lachy Rose from Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird for this episode. Lachy jumped on soon after the release of CTBNF's brilliant fourth studio album Rosewater Crocodile, and this conversation covers the journey both to and of that album in some depth. We also explore the maturing of CTBNF as a band and Lachy unpacks the carefully considered frameworks that underpin his approach to making art. This is an unsurprisingly insightful conversation with one of Australia's best alt rock offerings - don't miss it. Thanks for listening! The Hottest 100 of Australian songs is upon us. In this episode, we dive into our picks for Triple J's midyear countdown and ponder whether this is a response to the dismal showing by Australian artists in the 2024 countdown. Afte that we dive into the big one - The Velvet Sundown saga. The AI generated band have been grabbing headlines across the world over the last couple of weeks. The saga has sparked an important debate over both AI in music and also how streaming companies are responding to the changing face of music. For a record-breaking seventh time, Central Coast pop/country artist Chelsea Berman sits down and has a chat with us. We also had a live audience member, TJ, who was brilliant. This chat is chaotic, heartbreaking, funny, tangential, and in our humble opinion, well worth a listen!Chelsea joined us ahead of her latest EP release, 'Like Me Better'. We walk about being more vulnerable in her songwriting, with tracks from this new EP talking about her sexuality and traumatic experiences in relationships. We also discuss her upcoming appearance at a rock/country festival in Switzerland, and Chelsea reveals a secret past involving a TV show on the ABC during her HSC!Plenty of laughs, a few tears, and one great podcast! Thanks for listening! It's another jam-packed music news, and another one full of positive stories! We start by talking about ARIA's announcement that they are changing the way the top 50 and 20 charts are calculated, an active response to try and make the charts more dynamic. This means songs that have residencies in that charts like Riptide by Vance Joy will make way for newer releases, with the top 50 charts now having a two-year cut-off.We then turn our attention to Music Australia and their nearly $1m in funding to help export Australian music, and we touch on how the same Government body are trying to tackle climate change through the arts. Thanks for listening! Today I speak with Artist and writer Dennis Valencia about the collaboration between 2 indie comic power houses with himself and Drew Lenhart creating this crossover for Homebrewed Comics- Celestial Knight vs Caspian Porter. At first glance, you'd think that this could be an extreme non-stop action filled book, but if you've read the Caspian Porter or the Celestial Knight series you'd know that their characters are purely based on the Underdog status and second chance glory making of a superhero. Caspian being an intergalactic delivery man that had the worst first day on the job ever. Celestial Knight finding constant motivation throughout his books by living a tough life. They both have non-conventional sidekicks Caspian's Robot: Curbie and Knight's Dog: Norman. All scaled into the creation of an obscure but fantastic book. This is the trilogy in the new Homebrewed Comics relaunch before they begin the homage to Image comics with Homebrewed 0.Written by Drew LenhartArt by Dennis ValenciaSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-faqs-project-hosted-by-james-grandmaster-faqs-boyce/donations

We promise numerous times not to get bogged down, but we may spend a decent chunk of this podcast to maths. It's genuinely shocking, we know...When we aren't blowing our minds with our math knowledge, we discuss a bunch of new Creative Australia reports which show the Australian Music industry generated over $8 billion for the economy. Not bad, right? We then turn our attention a different report which shows that just under half of the suveyed Aussies said they would pay for a local music streaming service. To wrap up, we predict what songs and artists might make an appearance in the top 10 for triple j's Hottest 100 of Australian Music next month. Thanks for listening! Despite her global influence, we really didn't think we'd ever have an episode of the Music News that looks so closely at Taylor Swift. Alas, here we are. News broke on Friday that Swift had purchased the rights to her first six albums following years of dispute, re-recording and discussion around the rights artists ought to have over their own work. Meanwhile, Aussie icon Pete Murray has followed Taylor Swift's lead and begun re-recording the early hits that he doesn't own. In this episode, we go deep on these two stories and the questions, answers and implications that they leave us with. Also, if you found yourself negatively impacted by our recent instagram post, we address that one too...Thanks for listening!
