In this episode of Supply Chain Decoded, host Jenni Ruiz sits down with Kara Smith Brown, founder and CRO of LeadCoverage, and author of the Amazon bestseller The Revenue Engine to break down what most supply chain companies get wrong about marketing and go-to-market strategies. Kara shares how getting fired (and making babies) sparked her entrepreneurial journey, and how a kismet collaboration with co-founder Will Haraway led to the creation of LeadCoverage. From there, she's helped drive hundreds of millions in revenue for clients by shifting them from outdated tactics (hello, cold calls) to modern, data-driven strategies centered on sharing good news, tracking interest, and following up. This episode tackles: - The #1 mistake companies make before launching a marketing campaign - The difference between strategic intent data and AI—and why lumping them together is a big problem - Why follow-up is a lost art and 35 touch points might just be your magic number - How Kara's framework works for scrappy startups and enterprise giants alike - What “random acts of marketing” really look like (and how to sniff them out) - The story behind her viral Girl Scout cookie experiment and its surprising freight lessons Whether you're a marketer, a founder, or anyone in between, Kara's straight-shooting advice will challenge you to think deeper, measure smarter, and lead better. -- Disclaimer: All views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions of Transfix, Inc. or any parent companies or affiliates or the companies with which the participants are affiliated, and may have been previously disseminated by them. Randee and her mom are very close. They have a wonderful relationship and Randee says "she's my best cheerleader." A lot of that has to do with the honesty and open communication that they had from the very beginning-"adoption was normal, not a stigma, not a tragedy." Also, Randee learned at a young age that just because you are blood related doesn't guarantee you a loving relationship.Lois was definitely a role model to Randee. But Randee also feels that she learned from things that Lois did and didn't t do and then would form her own opinions. Randee had the luxury of knowing that her mom "always had my back.".Unfortunately, growing up in the 70's, Randee's parents divorced and her mom went to work. She was able to get contract work, writing and editing government contracts. It was a stressful time for Lois, but she made the best of it. For example, her office didn't have a window, so she decided to put a picture of a window up on the wall. That made it feel so much better."The Only Songs We're Singing," was released April 2025 and "Leave No Trace" will be released August 2025.In “The Only Song Worth Singing”, the power of friendship is one of the major themes blended with myth and the power of music. Imagine Irish folklore combined with mysticism – makes for a magical read. She's also written Amazon Bestseller, Tune in Tomorrow and co-wrote the popular, The Law & Order: SVU Unofficial Companion and co-edited, Across the Universe: Tales of Alternative Beatles.Randee Dawn's Bio:Randee Dawn is a Brooklyn-based author and journalist focusing on speculative fiction across the categories (science-fiction, fantasy and horror) at night, while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications including Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times and Emmy Magazine. You may have seen my name in other publications over the years, including Soap Opera Digest and The Boston Phoenix, E! I contributed to a French book about American television, Les Series Tele and co-authored (with Susan Green) The Law & Order: SVU Unofficial Companion.I've got a fair amount of short fiction in anthologies, and authored the short story/poetry compilation Home for the Holidays. I'm currently represented by Bridget Smith at JABberwocky Literary Agency, and I frequently appear at conventions and workshops on panels and to give readings. My first novel, Tune In Tomorrow, was published by Solaris/Rebellion in 2022. Arc Manor will publish my next two novels in 2025: The Only Song Worth Singing (April) and Leave No Trace (August). My degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University is occasionally useful, though I'm pleased to have a paralegal certificate from New York University.Currently, I reside with the love of my life and an adorable West Highland Terrier (who is also quite lovable). According to the Cambridge dictionary, “longevity means living for a long time or remaining popular and useful for a long time.” Of course, I would like to live a long life, as long as my loved ones anyway, and I would like to be independent and happily busy for as long as possible. We know that nutrition, exercise, sleep and wellbeing are important but is there another ingredient in this secret sauce for living with as much vitality as possible, for as long as possible?Scientific studies show that being happy and grateful has a massive positive impact on our physical health. But there is another way of thinking which can also contribute and that is being curious. According to an article by George Lee (link in notes) “by encouraging our desire to seek out new knowledge, ask questions, and explore the world around us, curiosity may help to improve our memory, reduce the risk of chronic disease, and increase our resilience in the face of stress and adversity.”Miles Spencer is, in his own words, a curious guy from Pittsburgh. His day job has been to help create over 1,100 jobs while founding, financing, building and exiting three digital media companies. Prior to that, he was a Venture Principal at Capital Express (register.com), hosted MoneyHunt on PBS (pre- SharkTank), led over 1,500 people across 14 miles of open sea on kayak, and trekked 1,100 miles through the deserts of Saudi, Jordan and Syria… and A Line in the Sand ended up an Amazon Bestseller in the Middle East.Miles joins me on the podcast to chat about his adventure and his adventurous spirit which be believes has helped him to remain vital, active and interested in life into his seventh decade. Today on the Invest In Her Podcast, host Catherine Gray talks with Jane Ubell-Meyer, a former TV and film producer turned entrepreneur and founder of Bedside Reading. With an impressive career producing for major networks like GMA, Entertainment Tonight, and WSJ-TV, as well as films like Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean, Jane transitioned her creative talents into the hospitality space. Eight years ago, she launched Bedside Reading—a literary amenity placing books in luxury hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria, Fairmont, Conrad, Taj, and Kimpton. The program has since expanded to include audiobooks, eBooks, meditations, author podcasts, and magazines. Jane is also the author of the Amazon #1 Bestseller From Wanting to Having It: A Guide to Manifesting Anything, and is set to debut the Bedside Reading Audiobook Collection on April 8th. In this vibrant conversation, Catherine and Jane dive into the evolution of Bedside Reading and how Jane carved a unique niche at the intersection of publishing, wellness, and luxury hospitality. Jane shares her journey from Hollywood to entrepreneurship, how she curates content that enhances hotel guest experiences, and her passion for helping authors get discovered in innovative ways. The episode also touches on the powerful manifestation practices that inspired her book and how she's using those same principles to expand her brand even further. Entrepreneurs, authors, and wellness seekers alike will find plenty of inspiration and practical advice in this engaging episode. —----------------- Note from Jane Ubell-Meyer: For every membership purchased, we will donate a membership to a charity for the blind to help their people! WHY am I doing this? My dad's best friend, Roger, experienced two separate incidents where the retina of his eye(s) detached. He went 100% blind in his 70's. The Lighthouse Guild in NYC helped him cope with life after this tragedy. My dad took him there every single day. I was always amazed at how he helped so many people—I thought audiobooks were an excellent gift for these people. Rick and I are reaching out to charities for the blind across the USA to offer a free membership for every membership purchased.
