POPULARITY
1. Human Wisdom Colossians 2:8 (NIV) “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ”2. LegalismColossians 2:16-17 Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day, things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. 3. MysticismColossians 2:18-19 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. 4. Harsh Deprivation Colossians 2:20-23 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
What if everything the world tells us we need to be whole, optimized, and spiritually complete is actually a distraction from the one thing that already makes us complete? That is the provocative question at the heart of our journey through the book of Colossians. Written to a community in the ancient city of Colossae, a place caught at the crossroads of competing worldviews and spiritual philosophies, this letter speaks with stunning relevance to our modern moment. Just as we scroll past wellness influencers promising that one more supplement or morning ritual will finally make us enough, the believers in Colossae were being told that Jesus was a good start but not sufficient. They needed secret knowledge, angelic mediators, rigorous rituals, and spiritual upgrades. Paul's response is both tender and thunderous. He opens not with condemnation but with gratitude, reminding these believers that they are saints, that their faith and love are already bearing fruit, and that their hope is not a wish but an anchor, a guaranteed, steadfast promise secured in Christ. The spiritual lesson here is profound. When our future is secure, we are freed from the anxiety of scarcity. We stop hoarding, stop isolating, stop seeing others as threats, and start living with open hands and open hearts. Colossians invites us to ask whether we are truly living from the abundance we already have in Christ, or whether we are still searching for the upgrade that was never needed.ChaptersChapter 1: The Ancient Pressure to Add More0:00 - 4:19The cultural and religious crisis in Colossae mirrors our modern obsession with self-optimization, revealing that the temptation to add to the gospel is nothing new.Chapter 2: Paul's Pastoral Heart and the Foundation of the Gospel4:19 - 19:27Paul opens his letter not with condemnation but with thanksgiving, affirming the believers as saints who already possess everything they need in Christ.Chapter 3: Knowing God's Will Through Relationship, Not Formula19:27 - 37:39Paul's prayer that believers be filled with the knowledge of God's will points us away from codes and programs and toward an intimate, growing relationship with Jesus.Chapter 4: The Finished Work: Rescued, Transferred, and Complete in Christ37:39 - 50:53Because God has already rescued us from darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his Son, the message that we need something more than Christ is simply false.

Jesus Plus Nothing — Pastor Jason Burns Paul's letter to the Galatians is a reminder that the gospel is good news about what Jesus has already done, not a list of rules we must follow to earn God's love. This message unpacks how adding anything to Jesus distorts the freedom found in grace.

From Outsiders to One: The Ministry of Reconciliation (Ephesians 2) In this message at Journey during a series through Ephesians, JonnyMac invites the church to reflect on times they've felt like an outsider and connects that experience to an “us vs. them” culture. Teaching from Ephesians 2:11–18, he explains the historical divide between Jews and Gentiles, how a “Jesus plus” system of traditions created barriers, and how Christ's death broke down the wall of hostility and brought peace, uniting two groups into one and reconciling people to God. He illustrates the challenge of reconciliation with the story of the Prodigal Son, focusing on the older brother's anger and how people can love the idea of God's grace while resisting the “guest list.” The message emphasizes that reconciliation is not only between individuals and God but also a calling for believers, with the church meant to lead in reconciliation in a divided world. Practical next steps begin with prayer, referencing Isaiah 56:7 and Jesus' words about God's house being a house of prayer for all nations, and Matthew 5:44 about praying for enemies. The speaker shares examples of reconciliation seen in a diverse Louisville coffee shop community and a personal story of repairing a broken relationship with a former coworker through ownership, prayer, grace, and restored friendship. The talk concludes with an invitation to use the church's prayer wall to pray for reconciliation and to remember in communion that believers were once outsiders but have been brought near through Christ. 00:00 Welcome to Journey + Springtime Small Talk 00:17 Icebreaker: When Was the Last Time You Felt Like an Outsider? 02:55 Why Outsider Stories Matter: Living in an ‘Us vs. Them' Culture 03:55 Ephesians 2 Setup: Paul, Ephesus, and Reading the Passage 07:22 Gentiles, Israel, and How the Wall of Hostility Got Built 10:07 The ‘Jesus Plus' Problem: Traditions That Keep People Out 12:07 Jesus Breaks Down the Wall: Peace and One New People 14:04 Prodigal Son & the Older Brother: Loving the Party, Hating the Guest List 19:17 Our Calling: The Church as a Ministry of Reconciliation 24:08 How to Begin: Prayer, a House of Prayer for All Nations 27:52 A Personal Reconciliation Story (and a Call to the Prayer Wall) 31:53 Communion & Closing Prayer: Remember You Were Brought Near

Many well-meaning people believe that being a good person is good enough to get to heaven. But the truth is, there is only one way—salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone! Jesus is the only way to Heaven. In the book of Galatians, Paul addresses this important truth and says that any person or demon who tells you a “different gospel” should be accursed! Join Pastor Gary for today's study from Galatians 1.

When BT found his dream restoration vehicle, a 1978 Jeep CJ-7, he had no idea just how much time, effort, and money it would cost him. But with his eyes focused squarely on the end goal, he kept moving forward, even when it was uncomfortable and difficult. Recorded live in his garage, he explains how the physical reality of counting the costs of this project directly mirrors the spiritual principle of what it takes to follow Jesus. For the month of July, we're reliving Brian's 3-year Jeep restoration project, as chronicled on his YouTube show Garage Bible Study. With over 30 episodes dedicated to restoring his 1978 Jeep CJ-7, BT draws a straight line from physical work to spiritual principles. Track along with the entire project on YouTube, here.
