The American Messianic Jewish congregational movement as we know it today blossomed in the 1960s and ‘70s. These young congregations borrowed theological ideas from Judaism and from Christianity, but comparatively little work has been done to synthesize a truly original, authentic, relevant, and beautiful Messianic Jewish theology. Over 100 years ago, Philip Cohen published the first issue of "The Messianic Jew: Organ of the Jewish Messianic Movement." We read the introductory article to this Messianic Jewish publication to discover the beautiful heart Cohen had for Jewish followers of Yeshua to express their Jewish identities. He casts a vision and an aim for Jewish believers that ultimately results in Jesus being made known, reigniting the Jewish consciousness of Jewish believers, and partnering with the Gentile Church to help us fulfill this vision. Michelle Teeter grew up in a home where her faithful mother took her to church. In God's world there are no accidents. Almost 45 years ago many questions and many desires were put on her heart which led her to Messianic Judaism . Dr. Matthew Wiseman discusses his new book, The Two Jerusalems, which is the moving story of a young man's amazing journey to discover the roots of the Christian faith in the Ancient Near East, which led him from Protestantism through the Messianic movement and into the Catholic Church. This journey took him to the rainforest of Papua New Guinea, the Nożyk Synagogue in Warsaw, and the Judean Desert, and into the heart of ancient and medieval Jewish tradition: the Hebrew Bible. You have Jewish religion, you have Christianity, then you have something created in between the two in the 1960's with that said is messianic Judaism a valid thing--this is all weird to me.
