Star Trek Video Games: An Unofficial Guide to the Final Frontier with author Mat Bradley-Tschirgi. There are a LOT of Star Trek video games and Mat had some hard decisions and set boundaries on what games to cover in his book (by the way, a “notable” game doesn't necessarily mean a good game). What is Mat's favorite and least favorite Star Trek game? Star Trek has one of the saddest stories of vaporware in PC gaming. Mat had an unusual entry into Star Trek fandom, but it still grabbed him. What are Shane and Mat's thoughts on some of the more recent Star Trek TV shows? What is one redeeming aspect of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? Podcasting takes a lot of work and time.  Shane Plays Geek Talk Episode #280 - 10/23/2024 Like what you hear? First, Mat Bradley-Tschirgi has an interview with popular Star Wars podcaster Jason Swank of Rebel Force Radio on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Then, Mat, Thrasher, and BJ have a longer discussion on the movie itself. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) ditches his friends to train with an old green alien (Frank Oz). After the victorious ending of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, this sequel starts with the Rebels on the run on the ice planet of Hoth. Our heroes split up to different planets for reasons, but eventually they get back together again. After a certain paternal revelation, things will never be the same for Luke, Han, Leia, and Lando. A darker tale than the first with inspired cinematography by Peter Suschitzky, The Empire Strikes Back is a fan favorite for a reason. At times it's meditative, at other times it's a retro romance with sparky dialogue and sparkier performances. An opening large scale battle on Hoth with the elephantine AT-ATs has been adapted into countless video games. This flick is well worth revisiting if it's been a while. This month we’re chatting Dolph’s follow up to The Expendables, 2011’s In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds! Can’t say that working on a sequel to the notorious flop, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale was necessarily the next film I had hoped Dolph would sign on for after The Expendables, but hey, a job is a job! Directed by the notorious Uwe Boll, Dolph plays Granger, a former special forces commando who’s now teaching children’s karate classes in Vancouver. But when he’s suddenly sucked through a portal that puts him back in medieval times, Granger must unleash an ancient dragon and overthrow a diabolical king if he wants to make it back home! Joining me to chat this one is gaming enthusiast, Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, host of Sequelcast2 and Friends! He also knows a thing or two about the films of Uwe Boll; Mat wrote a book on Boll’s movies — The Films of Uwe Boll, Volume 1: The Video Game Movies! Why is Dolph even in this film? Better yet, why was Lochlyn Munroe cast as the king? And considering the scope of the movie, why does this have such an underwhelming final battle? Join us as Mat and I embark on a quest to review In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds! Major thanks to Mat Bradley-Tschirgi for joining me! For those new to Mat Bradley-Tschirgi's work, here are a few things you should know: he may be the leading authority on the work of notorious video game filmmaker Uwe Boll, he's an accomplished game development educator, and he's a prolific interviewer. During this episode, we follow up to hear about how readers responded to The Films of Uwe Boll Vol. 1: The Video Game Movies, and hear about his latest book, Simply the Best: Interviews with Video Game Designers, Composers, and Scofflaws. It's difficult to pick the best topics to go over during calls with Mat--I'm too much of a noob film critic to get on his level and talk about his work on the SequelCast 2 and Friends podcast and I'm not sure he can actually teach us mortals how to match his propensity for Getting Things Done--so we tend to talk like old friends about similar QA work we've done, funny mistakes we've made doing interviews, and amazing FLASH projects we lost to the Toilet of Time. Despite my refusal to guide the discussion in any particular direction, we land on some universal truths about planning, listening, and communication that hopefully serve as valuable reminders. Fresh off a discussion of the first story arc of Star Wars: Droids, hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William T. Thrasher take a break and discuss Evil Plans, an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars focusing on R2-D2 and C-3PO. In order to tilt Senator Aang's vote on the Military Support Committee to favor the Republic, Senator Amidala requires fresh Jogan fruit for a cake. R2-D2 and C-3PO are up to the task. However, bounty hunter Cad Bane has other plans for the plucky droids. A slight episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Evil Plans manages to have scenes of C-3PO torture juxtaposed against R2-D2 getting a deep clean at a massage parlor from sexy robot vixens. The jarring tone shifts wrap up a bit too easy as an exposition heavy meeting between Cad Bane and the Hutt gangster families end this show on a bit of a sour note.  Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page The theme song to In Trouble Again: A Star Wars Droids Podcast is performed by The Cybertronic Spree. After Mat asks a lone question for actor Karl Urban (Star Trek: Beyond, Thor: Ragnarok) at Rose City Comic Con 2018 in Portland, Oregon, hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss The Expendables. Throughout Sylvester Stallone's career, he's attempted to launch franchise after franchise. While some of these has been successful (Rocky, Rambo), others have not been prone to box office success (Cliffhanger, Cobra). Inspired by the massive concerts consisting of classic rock band superstars, Stallone gathered a murder of action star mavens for The Expendables. It was a huge success, spawning a franchise of films as well as a possible TV series in the works. The Expendables, a group of aging mercenaries such as Yin-Yang (Jet Li), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), and leader Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) take on an assignment to liberate Vilena from General Garza (David Zayas). At times dark, humorous, and explosion packed, this first Expendables film struggles to find a solid tone. There is soap opera theatrics of Lee Christmas' girlfriend, oddball Charlotte's Web monologues from their tatoo artist pal Tool (Mickey Rourke), and threatened beheadings of terrorists all within 15 minutes of each other. Despite its wheezing plot machinations, The Expendables is novel for collecting a grab-bag of action superstars in a mediocre premise. Better things are yet to come.   Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page The theme song to the Sequelcast is written and performed by Marc with a C. Walt Disney sunk a lot of money into this artsy combination of classical music and animation, but it took years for Fantasia to make its money back. There's a lot of iconic sequences in here; The Sorcerer's Apprentice segment with Mickey Mouse later inspired a live-action movie of the same name starring Jay Baruchel and Nicolas Cage. Alexander loves diving into Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Project No. 2 box set. Mat enjoys the music drops and lighter tone of the new Netflix series Glow.
