Star Wars: Droids – The Forgotten First Animated SeriesIn this episode of Star Wars Generations, hosts Erin and Matthew explore Star Wars: Droids, the first-ever Star Wars animated series. This often overlooked show from the mid-1980s follows the adventures of C-3PO and R2-D2 before they joined Princess Leia, offering viewers a glimpse into their earlier escapades. The hosts examine how this episodic series was structured around three main story arcs, each following our droid heroes as they encounter new masters and get involved in various adventures across the galaxy. Despite being non-canonical in current Star Wars lore, the show provides interesting early concepts that would later influence the franchise. What makes Droids unique in Star Wars history? As one of the earliest Star Wars TV productions (second only to the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special), Droids represents an interesting moment in franchise history. The hosts discuss how the show's 1980s animation style resembles other cartoons of the era like He-Man and She-Ra, appearing somewhat amateurish by today's standards but groundbreaking for its time. How does Droids handle character development? The hosts analyze how C-3PO's personality differs slightly from his film portrayal, occasionally expressing desires to be a "freedom fighter" while still maintaining his characteristic anxiety and complaints. They also note the show's treatment of droids as property, with slavery being normalized in ways that modern viewers might find uncomfortable. What connections exist between Droids and later Star Wars properties? The hosts point out several interesting connections between elements in the show and later Star Wars productions, such as the character "Kybo Ren" potentially inspiring the name "Kylo Ren" years later, as well as appearances by characters like Boba Fett, Sy Snootles, and Max Rebo.Other topics discussed:The three main story arcs featuring different masters and adventuresEarly concepts of land racing that predated pod racing in The Phantom MenaceThe surprisingly dark "disappearing disease" featured in one episodeC-3PO's memorable quips, including threats toward petsAppearances by familiar characters like Sy Snootles and Max ReboThe show's approach to magic and mysticism not typically seen in Star WarsHow merchandising drove much of the show's creationDespite its simplistic storylines and now-outdated animation, Star Wars: Droids offers fans a fascinating look at early expanded universe content before the concept of a cohesive canon existed. While not essential viewing for casual fans, the hosts suggest it might interest completionists looking to experience every corner of the Star Wars universe.AND—stick around after the episode for a preview of this month's Star Wars Book Club Member's Only Episode on Queen's Shadow! **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Watch the video version on Fandom Podcast Network YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@FandomPodcastNetwork Listen to the audio podcast version here: https://fpnet.podbean.com/category/what-a-piece-of-junk-a-star-wars-podcast Picture this - it's 1991 and Star Wars has been out of the cultural spotlight for quite some time as the fervor over Star Wars: Return of the Jedi has died down and even the cartoons like Star Wars: Droids and Ewoks have been consigned to the history books. Is it really over for the Galaxy Far, Far Away? Maybe not...there's always A New Hope - and in May of 1991 that new hope took the form of a series of novels by acclaimed military sci-fi author Timothy Zahn who had penned his masterwork, the Heir to the Empire trilogy. This series of books gave us the first looks at now legendary Star Wars characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade! Join the crew of the Drunken Gungan as they take a trip down memory lane to last century and the release of the books that saved Star Wars and still influence the stories of it today. I've got a bad feeling about this... that was the thought that crept into people's minds back in November 1978. They were about ten minutes into the Star Wars Holiday Special--and it wasn't exactly what they had hoped for... Despite how bizarre the special was, one segment was universally praised; an animated feature called 'The Story of the Faithful Wookie.' Seven years later, Star Wars would once again return to the small screen in animated form for The Ewoks cartoon, and Star Wars: Droids. But this time, Star Wars was on Saturday morning cartoons. This is a look back at everything that went into the two short-lived series, the live-action Ewoks movies, the influence that came from The Faithful Wookie, and the state of the Star Wars franchise in the mid-80s. Before Clone Wars there was the classic 1985 animated series Star Wars Droids. Thomas Salerno and Patrick Mason discuss its nostalgic appeal, unique characters, humor, and themes like C3PO's quest for a worthy master and some 80s=style moral lessons. It's a bittersweet episode as we bid adieu to our often beloved, often confusing Star Wars: Droids: The Adventures of R2D2 and C3PO. At least...until The Great Heap! And we could not have arrived at the end without the help of an incredible guest - writer, photographer, multi-fandom extraordinaire - it's Meigs, creator of Meig's Odyssey and @Meigalorian everywhere online! We talked to Meigs about their journey in the Star Wars fandom and other fandoms in nearby galaxies, and of course, talked about this wild show. ESPECIALLY tiny R2, the absolute best boy. Correction: At minute 49:42, the name Tommy was looking for was Jon Favreau, not Kevin Feige. Who cares though? We're flying SOLO in our penultimate episode covering Star Wars: Droids: The Adventures of R2D2 and C3PO, and we're taking the opportunity to reflect on our time covering this show. As chaotic as it's been, it's been SO much fun to chat with friends, new and old, and introduce them to this wild series. And, we have a couple amazing guests left on the docket...so stay tuned! Plus, we talk "Tail of the Roon Comets" and "The Roon Games," give our thoughts on Mungo Baobab, talk all the wild lore that comes from this episode, and announce the next show we're covering...Andor Season 1! Kybo gets his revenge in "The Revenge of Kybo Ren" because, sure. And Coby (who we just met in Episode 8) gets back his ... Tessellated Arboreal binjinphant (?) in "Coby and the Starhunters" But more importantly, we had an amazing conversation with Chris Cummins, comics writer, historian, and host of Sci-Fi explosion on Twitch! We're kicking off a BRAND-NEW (to us) series and diving into the classic Star Wars: Droids: The Adventure of R2-D2 and C-3PO! It's an animated show so spectacular it demanded two colons in it's title (but, sadly, only one season). In our first episode, we cover the series premiere and talk about the history of the show and Nelvana, the animation company that brought it and it's companion show Star Wars: Ewoks to ABC in 1985. Now Monthly! ré·su·mé [rez-oo-mey, rez-oo-mey] noun1. a summing up; summary. 2. a brief written account of personal, educational, and professional qualifications and experience, as that prepared by an applicant for a job. In Comic Reader Résumé, I use Mike's Amazing World of Comics to travel back through time via his virtual newsstand to the genesis point of my lifelong collecting of comics. From there, I can offer a “work history” of my fandom through my active purchasing of (relatively) new comic books beginning in January of 1982, when my interest in the medium went from sporadic and unformed to routine on through compulsive accumulation. To streamline the narrative and keep the subjects at least remotely contemporaneous, I will not generally be discussing what we call back issues: books bought long after their publication date. Sometimes, I will cover a book published on a given month that I picked up within a year or so that date, and I give myself an especially wide berth on this aspect in the first couple of “origins” episodes. We'll get more rigidly on point as my memories crystallize and my “hobby” spirals out of control into the defining characteristic of my life (eventually outpacing squalor and competing neuroses.) It's part personal biography, part industry history, and admittedly totally self-indulgent on my part. This episode includes Batman and the Outsiders #32, Blue Devil #23, Elfquest #9, Elvira's House of Mystery #2, Fury of Firestorm #46, G.I. My conversation today is with long time Lucasfilm film employee Miki Herman. She was engaged at Lucasfilm during the production of Star Wars and stayed long enough to work on the Ewok and Droids cartoons. She worked on the original Star Wars trilogy as production assistant, production coordinator and unit production manager, respectively. She was later a consultant for The Star Wars Holiday Special and became co-executive producer of the Star Wars Droids and Ewoks animated series. Now, I always feel like I make a connection with my interviewees and Miki is no exception. She was smiling and occasionally laughing. But something seemed a little off. I'm not sure if my connection was delayed to her or something else was going on. But sometimes Miki's answers were quite short. So, todays conversation as I mentioned, is a little shorter than usual. But still worth your time. Big thanks for Miki for her time.LinksReturn of the Jedi Timeline Book - Register your interest!Filmumentaries MerchSupport the Podcast on PatreonLinktreeThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5530733/advertisement

Star Wars is back, Pixie Dusters, and today is another throwback to the 80s and early 2000s. The Star Wars: Droids cartoon series has the classic 80s Saturday morning vibe, and is great for kids or kids at heart. Star Wars: Clone Wars Micro Series is a bit different, but Ashley still thinks kids will like it. Dan and Sammi failed to finish either series, but they agree with Ashley that both cartoons are a good Star Wars intro for kids.Follow your new Disney besties on Instagram @pixiedusttwinspodcast and on TikTok @pixiedusttwinspodcastFollow Dan, honorary third host of the "Pixie Dust Twins" Podcast, and King of the Manifestos: @Dantaastic on Instagram and YouTubeHave ideas for the show? And so they're back! In outer space! You just walked in to find Doctor Velvet and Blackout here with that patient, if faintly underwhelmed look upon their face(s)! Yes, The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour returns for another spectacular series, as some beloved favourites come under the retrospective microscope, as well as a few forgotten gems... The first stop on tonight's excursion is a Galaxy Far, Far Away, to catch up with the goggle-eyed antics of some familiar Droids. Following which, it's a short ride back down to earth and the gritty streets of Bay City, where Messrs Starsky and Hutch have got their work cut out trying to fight crime efficiently in California bedecked in heavy knitwear. How forgiving does one have to be of a half-hearted televisual spin-off of an iconic film series, given that the alternative is 'well, nothing at all then'? How excited can one get to be plunged into a familiar city for the very first time, with new characters that feel like old friends? And how robust is one man's coccyx that he smacks derriere-first onto the roof of his own car every single week, gradually destroying the vehicle like a painfully slow version of the bonus round in Street Fighter II? Press the play button and You Will* Survive to find out... (*Should. Survival not guaranteed.) The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour is a free podcast from iPorle Media, which holds production copyright. Hello there again, This week we travel to a Galaxy far far away and discus the 1985 Star Wars cartoon 'Droids', and as Stuart Copeland from 'The Police' once sang.. "Steppin' softly in a danger zone No weapon in my hand It's just this brain, designed by man It's got me in trouble again In trouble again" The Power Squad get in trouble discussing an episode that has everyone convinced Stu has bad taste when it comes to giving ratings, and that James can't be relied on to do the one thing he was supposed to... so Jamie steps in with a classic Jamie 'Would you rather'. (At this point even we aren't sure if thats a good thing or not!) Kane dresses up as Boba Fett for the recording but takes no prisoners this week as he tries to hold the Power squad to account. This week the episode we watched was episode 4 season 1 "A Race to the Finish". This is a fixed version that has the audio of the whole Power Squad, not just James! (we are sorry to anyone who had to listen to that).

From the Mojoverse he comes...to star in his own limited series! Longshot's got it all -- leather, looks, and so much luck it's actually he's mutant power. But with his recent arrival to Earth leaving his identity in question, Longshot discovers he's got a long road ahead in uncovering his truest, non-engineered self. Ann Nocenti and Arthur Adams present Longshot! he first issue of a six-issue miniseries that represents the first major work of both Nocenti and Adams.[1] The Longshot series established Longshot as an amnesiac fugitive from another dimension who discovers that he has favorable probability outcomes, or "good luck," that protect him when his motives are pure, and that he was a paradoxical genetically engineered clone of his future son, raised to be a slave who led a rebellion on his dystopian world against his former master and enemy, Mojo. The character subsequently becomes a recurring fixture in the various X-Men related books, which see him as a member of the X-Men from 1986 to 1989, a member of Tony Bedard and Chris Claremont's Exiles teams, and a member of the third incarnation of X-Factor from 2008 - 2013, as well as in his own solo adventures. Versions of the character have also appeared in the Ultimate Marvel line of books, and television and video games. Happy Life Day, Everyone! And what better way to celebrate Life Day than with a new Non-Bluth episode talking about Nelvana, the studio responsible for underground Sci-Fi animation such as A Cosmic Christmas, Romie-0 and Julie-8, Rock & Rule, Intergalactic Thanksgiving, Star Wars: Droids, Star Wars: Ewoks, and yes, even the animated segment from The Star Wars Holiday Special. Joining us is special guest Avery, who, having a unique history with the studio, kindly shares his experiences of visiting Nelvana in its earlier days.
