This week on The Fast Ones, Max and Mike dive headfirst into an unexpected but glorious mashup of 80s music nostalgia, steamy racing fiction, and of course, the Hungarian Grand Prix. The episode opens with an ode to Toto—yes, the band—followed by a deep dive into their hidden connection to Michael Jackson's Thriller, and the math-rock genius of 80s studio bands. From there, things take a sharp turn as Max reveals his "book of the week": Overtake My Heart, a Daniel Ricciardo-themed erotic novel that's somehow both hilarious and unsettling—and might just have been written by the Honey Badger himself. When the tire smoke clears, the guys break down the Hungarian GP: Lando's redemption win, Oscar's quiet dominance, Charles Leclerc's cryptic radio messages, George Russell's whiny post-race meltdown, and Aston Martin's mysterious return to form. There's also love for Ollie Bearman, speculation about Lewis Hamilton's future (is he retiring or just dropping merch?), and a passionate defense of Haas—the only F1 team you really need to root for. It's part racing analysis, part fever dream, and all gas, no brakes.

Today on the 5: I've heard good things about 1983's The Boxer's Omen for a long time now, and I figured why not make my first viewing a shared experience with Lando! It was pretty clear early on that we were going to have a good time with this one, but we were completely unprepared by how far this movie goes into surreal and sometimes disgusting places.

With F1 starting a much needed summer break the NZ Herald’s Alex Powell joins us with some thoughts on the sport he loves. Lando Norris is looking stronger as the 2025 title fight seesaws between the McLaren drivers. Drawing parallels with the 2016 championship battle between the then Mercedes drivers as Lando and Oscar Piastri make this a clear two horse race. Why Liam Lawson will be on the grid in 2026 and it’s not just his current form rebound that justifies it! Some perspective on Yuki Tsunoda and the second RedBull seat as Lewis Hamilton appears to be losing the race against time. Plus backing Kimi Antonelli for the long term in a world that wants instant results. Oh and some thoughts on Louis Sharp in F3, Shane van Gisbergen getting the hang of NASCAR ovals and Scott McLaughlin coming back stronger from a wretched year in Indycar. Political intrigue swirls as Han juggles coded conversations and Lando proves why he's the smoothest operator in the galaxy. Meanwhile, beneath Coruscant's polished politics, Fey'lya maneuvers against Ackbar, and chaos simmers just below the surface. Lando se lleva la victoria y a los fans no le agrada que McLaren se incline a su favor, pero, ¿realmente hay favoritismo en Woking?
Another fantastic race weekend that saw Charles grab a shocking pole for Ferrari who show a good step up in pace after thier recent upgrade ! There was a pretty dejected Lewis after Quali saying words like I am useless, and Ferrari need a new drive which shocked the F1 community. On Sunday we saw a fantastic battle between the two Mclarens which saw Lando take an exciting victory! Russell did a fantastic drive for Mercedes to claim third position and reverse the negative trend for Mercedes. Charles unfortunately had a chassis issue late in the race to deny him of a podium finish for Ferrari and he was really frustrated.
Nine-time Le Mans winner, Tom Kristensen, and Fox Sports Mexico journalist, Diego Mejia, join Tom Clarkson in the Budapest paddock to dissect a thrilling strategy battle at the Hungarian Grand Prix. After losing two places at the start, how did Lando Norris make the one-stop strategy work to take his fifth victory of the season? What did the guys make of Oscar's late lunge into turn 1 on the penultimate lap? Lando joins the pod briefly to share whether he did anything in the car to avoid contact with Oscar. And with just nine points separating the McLaren teammates with 10 races left, who's the momentum with going into the summer break? Charles Leclerc took a shock pole position on Saturday, so why did he end up finishing off the podium after leading from the start? Did Ferrari get his strategy wrong? And after Lewis Hamilton described himself as ‘absolutely useless' following another disappointing qualifying session, where does the seven-time World Champion go from here? George Russell secured his sixth podium of the season and his first since winning in Canada. Why were Mercedes quicker in Hungary after a difficult European leg of the season? And how will the news that Max Verstappen is staying at Red Bull in 2026 help Russell and Kimi Antonelli going forward? Also on the agenda: Gabriel Bortoleto's career-best finish in P6, Aston Martin's incredible turnaround from Spa and a disappointing weekend for Red Bull.

ESPN journalists Albert Fabrega and Juan Fossaroli join Tom Clarkson in the Spa paddock to dissect another huge weekend in the title fight between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris at the Belgian Grand Prix. Piastri went into the weekend eight points clear of Lando at the top of the Drivers' Standings, but after beating him in both the Sprint and Grand Prix, that advantage has now doubled to 16 points. How did Oscar ‘lure' him into that crucial overtake on the first lap of racing? Did ‘little errors' prove too costly for Lando? Or should McLaren have double stacked their pit stop to give him a better chance of fighting for the win? Charles Leclerc secured his fifth podium of the season with P3. How much was Ferrari's performance down to their eagerly anticipated new rear suspension? What do the guys make of a rollercoaster weekend for Lewis Hamilton? And with Max Verstappen winning the Sprint and finishing P4, what will new Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies take away from his first Grand Prix in charge of the team? Will Max be encouraged by his own performance as Red Bull's new era gets underway? It rained all right - exactly at the time of the scheduled start of the Belgian GP. This being 2025 F1, however, we didn't get a wet race. Instead, the drivers sat around for 75 minutes or so before starting behind a Safety Car on a rapidly-drying track. The pole of McLaren's Lando Norris then disappeared in the time it took for his team-mate, Oscar Piastri, to tow past Lando on the main straight on the first racing lap with an 11kph speed advantage - and thereafter it was Oscar all the way, helped by a slow pit stop for Lando plus two time-consuming Lando errors on hard-compound Pirelli slicks. Charles Leclerc finished a valiant third in his low-downforce Ferrari; Max Verstappen's wet rear wing settings left him a sitting duck on the dry track and a frustrated P4; George Russell finished fifth for Mercedes; and Alex Albon drove beautifully for Williams-Mercedes to hold off Sir Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari for P6-P7. Peter in this podcast looks back at the three days in Spa - at the Sprint pole for Oscar; at the Sprint win for Max; and then the Qualifying pole of Lando. There's lots of detail, too, about the upgrades to the cars as we go into the first part of a double-header before the August break. Former Renault driver and F1TV commentator Jolyon Palmer joins Tom Clarkson to preview this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, which features the third F1 Sprint event of the season. What will new Red Bull Team Principal and CEO Laurent Mekies be hoping to achieve during his first weekend in charge? And how will Max Verstappen and the rest of the team react to the change in management? Oscar Piastri leads McLaren teammate Lando Norris by just eight points at the top of the Drivers' Standings. With a total of 33 points available from the Sprint race and Grand Prix, how crucial could this weekend be in the title race? Whose driving style does the Spa-Francorchamps circuit suit better out of Lando and Oscar? Also up for discussion: will Ferrari's rear suspension upgrade be the ‘silver bullet' that turns their season around? After winning with Lewis Hamilton at last year's race, can Mercedes challenge for victory again? Is Kimi Antonelli putting himself under too much pressure? And should Williams be worried about Sauber? With 12 races completed and 12 still to go, we're halfway through what has been a spectacular 2025 season. Former Renault driver and F1TV commentator, Jolyon Palmer, and F1 correspondent Lawrence Barretto, join Tom Clarkson to discuss what we've learnt from the first half of the year and what we can expect from the second half. With Laurent Mekies replacing Christian Horner as Red Bull Team Principal and CEO, what's on his to-do list? Can he persuade Max Verstappen to stay with the team? And will he be able to rejuvenate Yuki Tsunoda and resolve their second car issues? Oscar Piastri leads Lando Norris by eight points at the top of the Drivers' Standings. But after two wins on the bounce for Lando, who goes into the second half of this epic title fight with more momentum? And where will this title be won and lost over the next 12 races? Also up for debate: are Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton starting to turn a corner with their car? Can they fight for a race victory after a winless season so far? And is the uncertainty around his Mercedes future actually ‘galvanising' George Russell? Plus, after scoring more points than Red Bull in the last four races, could Sauber challenge Williams for P5 in the Constructors' Championship?
