That season 2025 done and dusted and this is the episode that has it all. We talk Lando the World Champion, we wrap up F1.5, we announce our Fantasy winners and ask the big questions of the season. Enjoy all this and more in our End of Season Review.
A somewhat shell-shocked Cameron chats to Peter on the Tuesday after the Abu Dhabi GP. Lando is the new World Champion; Max is the season's winningest driver. So who won? And why? And what were the pivotal moments? And is the current F1 points-scoring system actually working? These were just a few of the topics covered on this particular morning, when the coffee was flowing freely and the sun - in Spain, at least - was kinda warm. With thanks to Jetcraft, the world's largest buyer and seller of executive jets:https://jetcraft.comTo OEM Exclusive, the passionate suppliers of OEM upgrades for exotic and high-performance vehiclesTo TrackNinja, a lap-timer and data app designed to help users improve their on-track car and driver performance through analysis and an innovative Data Garage. And so it ended. Max, Oscar and Lando finished one-two-three on the Abu Dhabi road - but it was Lando who was thus ahead in the final standings of the FIA Drivers' World Championship by the margin of two points. Lando Norris = World Champion. Max was magnificent from the pole; Oscar ran hard Pirellis from the start (rather than the Mediums selected by all the other major runners) and, in so doing, applied some pressure on Max for most of the distance; towards the end, though, on old-ish Hards, Max was super-quick and super-consistent as he consolidated his margin over Oscar. Lando brought his McLaren MCL39-Mercedes home in a crafted third place, responding to potential undercuts from George Russell and Charles Leclerc and scything through the mid-field traffic whenever he was on fresh tyres; and Charles Leclerc finished a dazzling P4 for Ferrari, upstaging the factory Mercedes of George Russell and ultimately setting fastest lap late in the race on used Mediums. Into P6, behind George, came a classy Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin-Mercedes, Esteban Ocon (Haas-Ferrari) and Sir Lewis Hamilton, who had started P16 in his Ferrari. In this video Peter looks back at the key elements of this absorbing, tension-filled finale and reflects - just a little - on the flavour of the season just past. Today on the 5: For one of our commentary films this week, Lando and I watched a Hallmark movie titled My Southern Family Christmas. You read that right, we watched a Hallmark movie! This might seem like a joke, but I wanted to see what a Hallmark film featuring Bruce Campbell would be like. The results shouldn't really be suprising.
This week on Talking Tacos the boys celebrate the Formula 1 World Drivers Champion, the one and only LANDO NORRIS. That's it. That's all. All is right in the world. Praise be.
It's the end of the longest season of F1 yet and we're going full Formula Wrapped. MVPs, favorite moments, biggest surprises, and the storylines that actually defined the season. We finally crack the McLaren mystery of what really happened with Piastri—the turning point no one fully explained all year. Somewhere along the way, we both became Max & Red Bull girlies. We're acknowledging it, processing it, moving through it. What made this the season Max went from inevitable to… oddly compelling?Looking ahead: who's set up to be world champion over the next few years—and what does that mean for Lando? Was this a one-and-done fairytale, or the quiet beginning of a real era?And finally, offseason watch. 2026 means reg changes, Cadillac on the grid, team principal makeovers and much more. In the meantime, have a wild winter break—we'll see y'all before you know it for another round of predictions! The hosts delve into their 8th and 9th-grade years at William Pitcher Junior High, centering on the impactful, yet complex, figure of Mr. Lando —a basketball coach and male figure who played a different role for each host. They recall a specific 8th-grade teacher whose deeply uncaring or allegedly racist comments led to one host being expelled/suspended, highlighting the arbitrary nature of discipline in the system.

Today on the 5: For one of our commentary films this week, Lando and I revisited a sequel neither of us had watched in a long while, 1985's A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. F1TV experts Jolyon Palmer and James Hinchcliffe join Tom Clarkson in the Yas Marina paddock after Lando Norris was crowned Formula 1 World Champion for the first time. He was 34 points adrift after round 15, so how did Lando complete such an incredible comeback in this title fight? Has he broken the mould in terms of what we imagine a World Champion to be like? And how will being champion change Lando? You'll hear reaction from the man himself, as he talks about turning his ‘struggles into strengths' and winning this title 'the Lando way'. His race engineer Will Joseph also joins the pod to discuss how they overcame a challenging first half of the season and where they go from here. On the other side of the garage, Oscar Piastri came home in P2 but fell short of the title by 13 points. Why did Oscar lose out after leading the championship for most of the season? What does he need to work on to take the next step? And is there a chance that Oscar will become second favourite at McLaren now that Lando has a title to his name? Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for his eighth race win of the season, but misses out on what would have been a fifth title in a row by just two points. Could Max and Red Bull have done anything differently to put more pressure on McLaren in this race? Has this been Max's best season in Formula 1? And will Red Bull's transformation in the second half of the year give Max more reason to commit his long-term future to the team? LANDO: “I found a good rhythm with the car halfway through the season and I feel like I've been able to find confidence in myself, in my ability not just to win races but to go and fight for a world championship. “I've certainly had some fortune this year but I've certainly had a fair share of tough moments – especially at the beginning, [there was] a lot I struggled with and lost a little bit of belief early in the season. “More for myself at that point, it was nice to prove myself wrong in a way at times, starting off in Monaco Qualifying and a few moments after that. The second half of the season I've really been able to show to myself what I could do, what I was capable of doing.” MAX: “I'm very proud of the whole Team and I'm so proud of the incredible turnaround that we had. We never gave up and always believed we could turn things around and never stopped trying. We could have very easily just have given up, but we kept pushing, looking for improvements and always believed. This season has been a massive rollercoaster, with lots of tough moments and feelings, but I'm so proud of everyone and we have really come together as a Team. The turnaround in the second half of the season was incredible and pretty crazy that we could do that and we kept overcoming a lot of things as a Team. Today has been a lot of fun, especially winning the race in such a dominant way. We had an incredible weekend and did everything as best as we could, so ultimately I feel good today. Although not winning a championship by two points looks painful, going back to Zandvoort we were behind by over 100 points, so am very proud of what we have achieved. Of course, for Lando this is something very special and I hope he enjoys it a lot. The first Championship win is the most emotional one and it is something you dream of since you were a little kid. His family are here and I hope he enjoys tonight with his Team. Finally, I wanted to thank the whole Team in the factory and on track: we never gave up and always believed. I am very proud of the people that I work with, they are my second family. OSCAR: “Honestly, pretty good. I knew that going into today I needed the stars to align to win the championship. “Ultimately, I tried my best and put myself in the best position I could to try and win the race and give myself the best opportunity, but it wasn't to be. I think we can be very proud of the season we've had. “On a personal level, it's obviously not quite the ending that I wished for but I think when you look at the season as a whole, I'm very proud of the work that I've been able to put in and my team have been able to put in to make so much progress from last year. I'm looking forward to plenty more fights in the future.” FERNANDO: "It is great to finish the season with a strong P6 here in Abu Dhabi. Our race pace hasn't always matched our qualifying recently, so a solid Sunday here feels very good. It's been a challenging year, and I want to thank the whole team for their hard work all season. We'll enjoy a break, then switch our focus to preparing for the big changes next year. And congratulations to Lando on his first World Championship; it is a special moment for any young driver, and he deserves it."
The desert lights were bright, but the drama? Not so much. Still, history was made in Abu Dhabi as Lando Norris clinched his FIRST World Championship, but not without having to earn it in the end! Meanwhile, Max Verstappen delivered an absolutely flawless weekend — pole position, dominant race pace, zero mistakes. The guy led almost the entire Grand Prix… but came up two tiny points short of a fifth straight title. And considering he clawed his way back from a 104-point deficit, that alone is insane. We also broke down Ferrari's late-season spark, with Charles Leclerc suddenly finding enough pace to nearly blow up Lando's title hopes all on his own. Plus, Yuki Tsunoda's comical — and chaotic — attempt to play wingman by slowing Lando down… along with the highly questionable penalty the stewards slapped on him afterward, and MORE!
It was tense throughout but ultimately, he got it done: Lando Norris is the 2025 F1 World Champion! And what impact could the likes of George Russell in P4 and Charles Leclerc in P5 have on the fight at the front?

Will it be Max? Will it be Lando? Or will it be Oscar? Steve Crossman and the BBC F1 team look ahead to the final race of the season, hearing from all three title contenders and asking who might have the edge. Plus, they reflect on what we learned from the trio as they faced the media on Thursday.
It was all lined up. The penultimate race weekend of the season at a track that isn't exactly condusive to overtakes. Lando just needed to outscore both his rivals by 2 points over the sprint and the Grand Prix to claim his first World Driver's crown, he was starting ahead of Max Verstappen in both races and he's had the measure of Oscar Piastri recently. It's a sure thing isn't it?This week on the podcast we look back at the race weekend where Lando Norris could well have lost the championship after McLaren took a gamble on strategy straight out the Ferrari playbook and managed to keep the 3 way title fight alive right up to the final race of the season next weekend in Abu Dhabi (and we all know how that's gone before don't we). How did they manage to get everything so wrong and be the only team not to pit under a safety car with 50 laps to go when there were compulsory stops after a maximum of 25 laps on a set of tyres? At least for the likes of us we've got another season where the finale isn't a dead rubber/lame duck and we're not going to know who the 2025 World Champion is until Sunday afternoon (unless something goes badly wrong in qualifying of course!) So of course we're speculating like nobody's business on that and on what the 2026 RedBull & VCARB lineups are going to be along with which one of the 5 prosepective drivers is going to be left without a seat (spoiler, it's Yuki) until someone messes up and gets demoted/fired! Obviously we've got a good few tangents as well as it wouldn't be an episode of 3L4W without them! And if you want to join in with the chat during the races (along with practice and qualifying) head over to our Discord where there's always a great crowd of people to watch along with. And on the socials we've got our Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky & Twitter (or is it X) and Paul's attempts at Sim Racing on our Twitch channel. F1TV commentator Jolyon Palmer and Alpine Reserve Driver Paul Aron join Tom Clarkson in the Lusail paddock to reflect on another huge twist in this year's title race. The guys talk about the decisive moment of the Qatar Grand Prix, when everyone except both McLaren drivers pitted under the Safety Car and Max Verstappen took full advantage to ensure the championship fight goes down to the season-finale in Abu Dhabi. What was McLaren's thinking behind that strategy? Why did it cost them victory? And how should they have reacted differently? Tom, Jolyon and Paul also discuss why Oscar Piastri was back to his best in Qatar and why Lando Norris wasn't quite at the level he's shown in recent weeks. And with just 16 points now separating Lando, Max and Oscar, what will their mindset be in the build-up to this mouth-watering title showdown at the Yas Marina Circuit? Also on the agenda: Carlos Sainz's incredible performance to secure his second podium for Williams, another weekend to forget for Ferrari and a strong result for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin following the news that Adrian Newey will become their Team Principal in 2026. “I think you have to have a big ego in business and in sports but I use mine to want to protect myself from failure. Ego makes me not want to fail, it's a motivator, my ego doesn't want me to be laughed at or labeled a failure.” Zak Brown CEO of McLaren Racing The 2025 F1 season is winding down with three races left to go and McLaren has already won its 2nd Consecutive Constructors' Championship with the chance for their drivers to finish 1st and 2nd. At the helm of all this success is CEO Zak Brown, a high school dropout from California that pursued his passion for motor sports and turned around McLaren Racing. On this episode of The Pivot Podcast, hosts Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder sit down with Zak Brown for an unfiltered conversation on leadership, risk-taking, and the relentless pursuit of speed—both on and off the track. Zak pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to transform one of the most iconic organizations in motorsport, from rebuilding McLaren's Formula 1 program to cultivating a culture where innovation thrives, no blame is placed and a team first mantra. He talks candidly about navigating high-pressure decisions, the realities of competing at the sport's highest level, and how he balances business strategy with his pure passion for racing. The conversation amps up as Zak talks about Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri's fierce but healthy internal rivalry, explaining how their push to beat each other is exactly what drives the team closer to the front of the grid. With only a few races left, McLaren is eyeing a 1st, 2nd finish for the 2025 season, hoping to prove doubters wrong with a drama-free relationship between his two drivers that sit atop the sport- a no favoritism, no fighting approach. From the dynamics inside the garage to the strategic vision for the future, Zak gives rare insight into what it takes to manage two hungry, elite-level drivers chasing the same trophy. Zak dives into the inspiration behind his new book, sharing the lessons, setbacks, and bold decisions that shaped his journey from young racing enthusiast to the executive steering one of motorsport's most iconic teams. He reveals the mindset shifts that fueled McLaren's resurgence and why embracing risk is often the only real path forward. From bold driver signings to the future of electric racing and what winning means in today's F1 landscape, this episode offers a rare look at the mindset of a global sports executive who isn't afraid to bet big. Whether you're a Formula 1 fanatic, a business leader, or someone inspired by reinvention, Zak Brown's journey shows exactly what it means to pivot with conviction.
