What if education wasn't about grades or transcripts—but about becoming the kind of person who can figure it out? In this powerful and timely episode of The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast, Matt Beaudreau returns for a second time to help launch Ginny Yurich's brand new book, Homeschooling: You're Doing It Right Just by Doing It, which he proudly endorsed. Together, they dismantle the conveyor belt model of schooling and offer a radically freeing alternative: when parents grow, kids grow. Matt shares stories of teens building real-world skills, chasing big goals, and thriving outside of traditional timelines—often without ever taking a test. He and Ginny explore meta-skills, modeling, self-reliance, boredom as a gift, and why success without peace is failure in disguise. This is not just a podcast episode—it's a rallying cry for parents to trust themselves, grow boldly, and reclaim childhood. ** Learn more about Apogee and all they have to offer here Get your copy of Homeschooling, You're Doing it Right Just by Doing It here Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of Inside Golf Podcast, Andy sits down with Andrew Harvie, managing partner at Golf Club Atlas to discuss his two recent trips to Florida and Texas. They dive into the Florida private golf bubble and many of the exciting new developments in the Sunshine state, including Apogee, High Grove, the Ranch, Sandglass, Cabot Citrus Farms, and many others. Andrew then discusses his recent trip to Texas, which includes Childress Hall and Luling, two exciting new clubs from Tom Doak, Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, and Kyle Franz that are set to rival the Oohoopee Model. They identify which of these new developments will shine and receive critical acclaim, and the question that I continue to ponder, is any of this good for the game of golf—being that all of the best architecture is matriculating at ultra private destination clubs that 99.9% of the golfing public will ever get to experience. Thanks for listening and subscribing to Inside Golf Podcast with Andy Lack, cheers!

Today, we're bringing back a special episode from our archives—Episode 16—in honor of a very special occasion. March 14, 2025, marks the 95th birthday of our company's founder, the legendary Alicia Cervera Sr. In this timeless episode, Alicia shares her 7 Keys to New Development Sales, insights that have shaped Miami's real estate landscape for decades. But before we dive in, let me introduce the woman who truly needs no introduction. Alicia Cervera Sr. is a Peruvian-American businesswoman, real estate broker, and philanthropist. As the founder and chairman of Cervera Real Estate, she's played a pivotal role in shaping Miami's skyline. Over the years, she's worked alongside industry titans like Harry Helmsley and Jorge M. Pérez and has been compared to Julia Tuttle for her profound impact on the city's development. Her story is one of vision, resilience, and determination. From her early days in Peru to her arrival in Miami in the 1960s, she recognized the city's potential long before it became the global hub it is today. She pioneered the model for new development sales and helped shape iconic projects like The Palace on Brickell, Apogee, St. Regis Bal Harbour, and Aston Martin Residences. Known as the Grand Lady of Real Estate and the Queen of Brickell, Alicia's contributions have been widely recognized—from a dedicated stretch of South Miami Avenue named in her honor to the South Florida Business Journal's Lifetime Achievement Award. Miami's skyline would not be what it is today without her vision. So, in celebration of her remarkable legacy, let's revisit one of our most valuable episodes. Here are Alicia Cervera Sr.'s 7 Keys to Selling New Developments. Guest: Alicia Cervera Sr. Host: Omar De Windt Producer: Veronica Paris

Education is about helping kids learn and grow. It's about giving them the tools and opportunities to discover their passions, develop their talents, and become the best versions of themselves. It's about fostering a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their lives. A good education is a foundation for a fulfilling life, empowering children to become confident, capable, and contributing members of society. In this solocast episode, Matt Beaudreau, Founder of Apogee Strong, sets out to clarify Apogee's mission and how it differs from Acton Academy. He addresses any remaining confusion and public perception issues, digging into the philosophical differences between the two organizations and sharing his personal journey in educational philosophy. Matt emphasizes Apogee's unique approach, which actively involves parents, offers flexible part-time and full-time options, and provides a hands-on, coach-driven learning environment. He also highlights the extensive support and resources Apogee provides to its affiliates, contrasting it with Acton Academy's more hands-off approach. Quotes: "We want to be the education hub in a community. So, we want people to be able to drop in for the things that they want help with that we want those a la carte options. Acton is not an a la carte network. We are very much an a la carte network." - Matt Beaudreau "Forget not answering questions. We're answering a lot of questions, and we're proactively engaging with every single thing, from academia to the projects all the above, it is not anywhere near the Acton approach on that, nor is it near the traditional school approach." - Matt Beaudreau "We've got two foundations that that push towards, you know, scholarships for families to make these things available, the website, the CRM and the tech behind it all to give them the ability to have an internal community, or building an app that's on the way that will help for tracking of student work, student behavior." - Matt Beaudreau Key Takeaways: Apogee is a separate entity from Acton Academy, despite the host's previous involvement. Apogee emphasizes parent involvement, contrasting with Acton's kid-centric approach. Apogee believes in coaching parents alongside their children, fostering a strong family-oriented learning environment. Apogee offers part-time and a la carte options, catering to homeschooling families and those seeking flexible learning solutions. This is a significant departure from Acton's focus on full-time enrollment. Apogee coaches actively guide students, contrasting with Acton's philosophy of letting students discover answers independently. Apogee believes in providing direct support and mentorship throughout the learning process. Apogee prioritizes physical fitness and incorporates it into the curriculum, recognizing the importance of a healthy body and mind for optimal learning. Apogee is building out a university partnership program, offering students opportunities to earn college degrees and trade certifications while completing their high school education. Conclusion Choosing the right educational path for your child is a significant decision. We hope this episode has equipped you with a deeper understanding of the differences between Apogee and Acton Academy, highlighting their unique approaches to parent involvement, curriculum design, and student support. Remember, the best choice for your family depends on your individual needs and priorities. We encourage you to explore both options thoroughly, visit campuses, and engage with their communities. By actively participating in this decision-making process, you can find the educational environment that will best nurture your child's growth, unlock their potential, and empower them to thrive.

It involves relationships and paying attention to the humans. It's about teaching people instead of teaching a curriculum.” “Education does not have anything to do with subjects. It has to do with a transfer of the way of life.” “Life does not reward you for being a great student in terms of skill transferability. From an educational standpoint, I want to make education as close to life as possible.” “Education should be a microcosm of the life you're actually going to live.” “I have an approach to business that comes through the avenue of life. I believe in order to be great in business, you actually have to be great at home, because it's all about relationships—both of them.” “In the short term, you're as good as your intensity. In the long term, you're as good as your consistency.” “If you cannot explain something simply enough, as if you were explaining it to a five year old, you don't understand it well enough.” “Simplicity is always a good goal.” “Far too often, we overcomplicate things to try and make ourselves look smart.” “Say the things you mean, mean the things you say, and you're not going to go overboard.” “The kids' issues are just a byproduct of our issues projected upon them.” “You can't tell your kids they can be anything they want while you're miserable at your job. That's called hypocrisy.” USEFUL RESOURCES: https://apogeestrong.com/ https://www.apogeestrongfoundation.org/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-beaudreau-071a5b99/ https://www.instagram.com/mattbeaudreau/ https://x.com/MattBeaudreau https://www.facebook.com/matt.beaudrea https://youtu.be/JPAXMNXy5UQ?si=1Mk62agvQHNOKLRm https://youtu.be/fv8tYbljc0s?si=ISC9MBP8EmCIlBwX CONNECT WITH JOHN Website - https://iamjohnhulen.com Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/johnhulen Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/johnhulen Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/johnhulen LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnhulen YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLX_NchE8lisC4NL2GciIWA EPISODE CREDITS Intro and Outro music provided by Jeff Scheetz - https://jeffscheetz.com/

With so many devices around us constantly emitting electromagnetic fields (EMFs), it's understandable to feel a bit uneasy about their possible impact on health. While research on EMFs is ongoing, some people take precautionary steps, like reducing screen time, using wired connections where possible, or simply turning off devices when not in use. Balancing the convenience of technology with potential health considerations can bring a little peace of mind. Being aware and proactive about EMF exposure, even in small ways, might help ease concerns about this unseen aspect of modern life. Aires Tech is a company dedicated to developing innovative solutions that address the growing concerns around electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure. Today, the Aries Tech team discusses their personal journey in discovering the impacts of EMF, the scientific evidence supporting their products, and their initiative to integrate these solutions into educational setting, such as Apogee schools, to protect the health and well-being of students and staff. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “We're not just taking the electromagnetic fields (EMF) that come off the devices, which can have a negative impact on your body, and leaving them as they are or blocking them or deflecting them somewhere else. We're taking them and changing them so that they're more bio-friendly.” – Grant “I'm one of those people who is intuitively driven. If I feel strongly about something, I'll do the research and make a decision for myself. However, once I decide on something, it's really hard to explain to someone why I made that choice.'” – Michaela “We live in this technological world, so it's better to adapt rather than try to walk around in a Faraday cage all day and be fearful of it all the time.” – Michaela “The reality is, technology is here to stay. So I think we do a massive disservice to our kids by saying, ‘Hey, you're never going to be able to touch it, never going to be able to use it. Good luck. I hope you're off-grid and fully self-sustaining.'” – Matt Beaudreau Takeaways: Explore ways to reduce EMF exposure in your home and daily life, such as unplugging devices when not in use, using speakerphone, and avoiding clock radios near the bed. Consider incorporating Aires Tech products into your home and school environments to help mitigate the effects of EMFs, especially for vulnerable populations like children. Stay informed about the latest research and developments in EMF science by checking out the "Wave Forward" podcast and blog, which feature in-depth discussions with experts. Advocate for more awareness and precautionary measures regarding EMF exposure, especially in schools and public spaces, to protect the health and well-being of our communities. Approach the topic of EMFs with an open and curious mindset, recognizing that there is still much to be learned, and be willing to experiment with different solutions to find what works best for your individual needs. Conclusion: Taking a proactive, balanced approach to managing EMF exposure is essential in today's tech-driven world. By being mindful of potential risks while embracing the conveniences that technology offers, individuals and communities can make informed choices that support both health and well-being. Prioritizing small adjustments can help reduce exposure without compromising the benefits of modern connectivity. This approach fosters a healthier relationship with technology, ensuring that convenience and safety go hand in hand.

Dr Ian Musgrave brings us his September SkyGuide … telling us when, where and what to look for in the evening and morning skies this month. As usual Ian also gives us his ‘Tangent' ... this time al about Full Moons, Apogee moons and Perigee moons, and how an astrologer made a typo leading to how our understanding of 'Blue Moons' has been somewhat flawed Also Ian is continuing his ‘Astrophotography Challenge' where he presents us with not one, but a trio of achievable and challenging tasks to undertake with our cameras in September. This month our challenge is to capture a Comet, a Nova and capturing a perigee and apogee moon with the same zoom settings, and an occultation. Moon Phases for September New Moon - 3 September - best for seeing the faint fuzzies and clusters Apogee Moon furthest from Earth - 6 September 1st Quarter Moon - 11 September Full Moon - 18 September Perigee Full Moon is also closest to Earth -18 September Last Quarter Moon - 25 September Evening Sky Venus in the evening twilight, close to thin crescent moon on the 5th, and close to Spica on the 18th. Saturn - almost edge on in the late evening, and for those in Northern Australia north of Alice Springs, an occultation on 17 September at about 6:20 in the evening .... and the centre of our galaxy is directly overhead this month, so when the sky is very dark this week (New Moon) and around to 25th (last quarter moon), please do get out and have a look at our magnificent Milky Way! Morning Sky Mercury has returned, low in the morning sky. Saturn rising ... always beautiful! Mars is moving into Gemini, and Jupiter getting higher also prominent in the morning sky, and may be joined by Comet C/2023A3 later on in the month, Comet C/2023A3 is closest to the sun on September 27, in the early morning if it doesn't disintegrate, but comets are like cats ... "they have tails and do as the please" Corona Borealis still hasn't banged, but is still expected to pop off before the end of September. Occultation of Antares best from Perth 10-11 September Ian's September Astrophotography Challenges: 1. Capture the apogee and perigee with same zoom. 2. Capture the comet oround the 13th or 14th, 3. Occultation 4. Corona Borealis Nova explosion Next Episode: In 2 weeks, to celebrate our 200th episode, we are bringing you a sensational interview with Larissa Palethorpe, a young PhD from Edinburgh University who has discovered the most earth-like planet yet … and it's only 40 Light years away You'll love Larissa and her earth-shattering research. Keep looking up!

Matt Beaudreau and Kevin Stoller have had transformative journeys through the traditional education system, ultimately leading them to create alternative, student-centered educational models. Drawing from their experiences, they emphasize the importance of fostering curiosity and engaging in meaningful conversations within the learning environment. In their conversation, Matt and Kevin address the challenges and opportunities in the evolving education landscape. They acknowledge the high demand for alternative education options and the need for systemic change within traditional schools. Parental involvement is highlighted as a crucial component in this shift, with parents playing an active role in their children's education. Matt shares the hurdles faced in making their programs accessible to all, advocating for a broader shift in mindset to embrace these new educational models. By focusing on the holistic development of students and the involvement of families, Matt's work represents a reimagining of education that seeks to reseed freedom in our children and nation through comprehensive family education. Takeaways: The traditional education system often prioritizes playing the game of school rather than fostering genuine learning and growth. Alternative models like Acton Academy and Apogee focus on learner-driven education, curiosity, and good conversation. Parents play an active role in the educational process, and their own learning and growth are important as well. Finding and building communities of like-minded individuals is crucial for creating and sustaining alternative educational models. The traditional school system needs to change There is a religious affinity for the current school system that hinders change As a Keynote Speaker, Consultant, and Coach to organizations around the world, Matt Beaudreau's clients have ranged from Wells Fargo, Honeywell, and Lockheed Martin to American Eagle, Cedars-Sinai and the United States Air Force. Matt has a reputation as a provocative thought leader in educational and personal development practices. He is a two-time featured TEDx speaker and he was named Corporate Trainer of the Year at Stanford University, having spoken to over 250,000 people across the world. Sound Bites to Ponder: "School for me was easy because I knew how to play school." "School has a big, giant, clunky, disgusting system that's self-perpetuating." Set sail through the cosmic seas with SpaceTime Series 27 Episode 62, as we chart a course to a newly discovered Earth-sized exoplanet orbiting an ultra-cool red dwarf star just a stone's throw away in the galactic neighborhood. The discovery of Speculos-3b, a mere 55 light-years from Earth, stirs intrigue with its eternal days and nights due to likely tidal locking, offering a unique glimpse into the conditions of potentially habitable worlds around the most common stellar inhabitants of our galaxy. We then drift to the Milky Way's outskirts, where a stellar slow lane has been uncovered, challenging assumptions about the mass and dark matter content at the heart of our galactic home. Jason Herrick and his wife Caitlin decided to start playing offense for their children and the future of this country by taking control of the education they provide their children, themselves, and all the families lives they will touch through starting their own Apogee Strong campus; Apogee HoCo.Howard County, Maryland will be home to one of 50 campuses starting up in the near future all over the US. The mission of Apogee Strong is one that resonates with me deeply. Leading through example, not being afraid of failure, critical thinking, hands on learning, educating the whole family & more.Jason's story of suffering a severe concussion early in his professional soccer career left him unsure of the future of his family and his ability to provide. After being stuck of the subscription model of healthcare, and dealing with let down after let down, he realized through the help of some non-traditional medical professionals that he had the power to heal himself.
