We've reached the end of another month. And that means it's time to wrap things up with another edition of The Wrap. But before we get to that, we just want to let you all know that we'd love to have folks come on our show to discuss thier favorite SNES games. If you're a fellow content creator, feel free to reach out on Instagram, Youtube, or even Bluesky. Links to all of those are on our website Snescapades.show. You get to pick three SNES games to form the episode around and chat with us around them. If you're nice, we might even let you help us rank them!Alright, with all of that out of the way. It's time to talk about what we're doing on December 1993's edition of The Wrap. We've got sports games, Koei strategy games, and a Super Scope game. But there's also games that we're going to talk about. In sports, we've got ABC Monday Night Football, Dig & Spike Volleyball, and World Soccer '94. There's also F1 Pole Position and Side Pocket in games that are kinda sports. Somehow three freaking Koei games came out in the same month, Nobunaga's Ambition, Romance of the Three Kingdom's III, and Genghis Khan. The Super Scope game is Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, which we don't have a way to play right now, but have it on pretty good authority that it's the best of the Super Scope games. And, of course, there's the licensed stuff. We've got Beethoven: The Ultimate Canine Caper, Barbie Super Model, Dennis the Menace, and Mario's Time Machine. We're going to talk about them all and rank them. Will there be any surprises? I'm not gonna say. You'll have to listen to find out.

TCW Podcast Episode 182 - The KOEI Dynasty We continue our look at KOE and their move onto the console space. This transition is rocky due to the increased costs of cartridge manufacturing. They were able to secure funding by holding a luncheon at the Imperial Hotel for distributors. They were able to start production on Nobunaga's Ambition for the NES. From there they continue to improve setting up development groups to explore new opportunities. The company was still niche until Dynasty Warriors 2 where they could finally move to mainstream gaming. When KOEI acquired Taito, doors opened to other companies' intellectual properties. This led to games like Dynasty Warriors Gundam, Hyrule Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes, and Fire Emblem Warriors. The company continues to expand and thrive today by helping Nintendo produce the popular Fire Emblem Three Houses, and the RPG NIOH. Still led by the founders in their 70s Yoichi and Keiko Erikawa are truly the power couple of the video game industry! TCW Podcast Episode 181 - The Fabric of Koei We look at the company KOEI and the power couple Yoichi and Keiko Erikawa. Keiko came from the city and had a love of design and investing. Yoichi came from the Japanese countryside and loved games and local history. Yoichi made board and card games based on historical events and people. They met in college when Yoichi rented a room from Keiko's grandmother, and after some time fell in love. Yoichi was pressured by his father to go into the family's failing textile business. Eventually, he and Keiko struck it out on their own. Yoichi and Keiko founded Koei working as a textile business, but they ended up developing software and games for the NEC PC in Japan. This episode is a fascinating case of the parallel evolution of video games and many firsts for the Japanese market. We discuss erotic games at a PG 13 level from 0:53:50 to 1:00:55. The material may not be appropriate for younger listeners. It's time to hack and slash our way through endless hordes with some historically-sourced heroes, because this week we're playing two games in the WARRIORS series! Koei's action series helped the company graduate from stodgy strategy RPGs to epic action, and the franchise has gone from Three Kingdoms-era China to Nintendo's mythical land of Hyrule. Does the simple formula still hold up, or has the repetitive gameplay worn out it's welcome like we wear out the Y button? It's time to talk about Koei for the very last time. Yup, we're calling it a day on covering Koei games (with possibly a few exceptions) as we just can't wrap our heads around them. We'll explain more in the episode. But, for games we are going to talk about, we've got Mortal Kombat and Operation Logic Bomb. Mortal Kombat is a port of the classic arcade game that looses the blood. Is there anything that can redeem this defanged fighting classic? Well... you'll just have to give it a listen. We also discuss Jaleco's Operation Logic Bomb. It's a top-down shooter with... something going on. We'll talk about this one and whether or not we think it's worth your time. Enjoy!

Warriors Orochi is crossover you didn't see coming; just like this episode of Back of the Rack with Chris Gildart! We always joke about this being the Koei cast, but this is the Koei/Warriors cast. Listen to us discuss our adoration for the respective series and our histories with this niche hack and slash series. Check out Chris Gildart! https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisGildart Back of The Rack is a podcast about those games that are lost in the Bargain bins. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

So this game might be a mixed bag for people after hearing my thoughts on the Base Version of DW9, but honestly Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires , although its got the same battle mechanics as DW9, it works and Koei have redeemed themselves with this totally awesome game ! Go and Buy it you won't regret it, cause this won't be the last time you hear about it on the podcast. Thanks to Koei Tecmo Europe for providing a review copy. Hack and slash time this week as we take on this PS2 launch game dynasty warriors 2
Justin Toner pinch hits for Krissi Harding while she continues to sort out her internet matters, and he discusses Koei's long running spin-off of a game series based on a novel based on actual history. With intense hack and slash action and voice acting that's often straight out of a badly dubbed martial arts movie, Dynasty Warriors may be an acquired taste here in the West, but it's one that just keeps coming back for more, like so many waves of soldiers for you to mow down.
In this episode Greg and Joe return to the rich and interesting catalog of Koei games when we cover one of the only games based on the American Revolution -- Liberty or Death! Covering the whole war from either the American or British side, this combo strategy and tactics game is quite deep and one of Koei's more complex SNES offerings. We talk about the game and how it plays and how it holds up today. Any questions, comments, etc can be left on our FB page or e-mailed to thesnespodcast@yahoo.com and as always thanks for your support!
In this episode Greg and George are joined by Aaron from Genesis Gems as he brings to the table a Koei game -- Gemfire! Considered one of the 'easier' of the simulation Koei games, and a cult favorite among fans today, we go into huge detail on the history of the game and the other ports, how the game plays, and how it holds up today. If you have any questions or comments please leave them on our FB page or send an e-mail to thesnespodcast@yahoo.com and please check out our Patreon at www.patreon.com/snespodcast and as always thanks for your support!
In this episode Greg and George re-visit a game that Greg covered by himself way back in Episode 20 -- the overlooked and hidden gem Uncharted Waters! We also look at the game that came before it, New Horizons. Another franchise that has been much more popular in Japan compared to the west, these Koei games have you doing a little bit of everything -- adventure, RPG, sailing, tactical ship battles, one on one duels, card games, trading, exploring, and resource management. We look at the games graphics, soundtracks, what you can do in the games, and how they hold up today. Any questions, comments, etc. can be left on our FB page or e-mailed to thesnespodcast@yahoo.com and as always thanks for your support!
In this episode Greg and George look at one of Greg's favorite games from his childhood, the strategy/simulation game Nobunaga's Ambition from Koei. Set during the Warring States Period of 16th century Japan, run your fief and engage in tactical battles as you try to unify the country. We discuss the history of the game and the franchise, how it plays, and if it's worth checking out today. For any questions, comments, feedback, etc. please visit our FB page or send a e-mail to the snespodcast@yahoo.com and as always thanks for your support!
In this episode Greg looks at one of his all time favorite SNES games, the Koei strategy/sim game P.T.O. II which places the player in command of either American or Japanese naval forces in the Pacific during WW2. Find out why he loves this game so much and how the gameplay operates and if you might like it. This is also the first episode with our new sponsor, JRI-RIGG, a full service media center and emulation device for many older computers and consoles. Check them out at http://jri-rigg.com/.
