The Pritchett Brothers Studio was excited to have a terrific co-owner of Morgenstern Books, Jenna Bowman, joining us for the September interview. Jenna's background started with a love for books at a young age when a local library allowed her to escape from the craziness of her home life. From there, she expanded her love for literature and music by working at a record store before managing a large Barnes and Nobles location. Years of management structures left her feeling exhausted and when COVID-19 hit, she was challenged with balancing keeping a store alive with personal happiness. This episode is filled with so much heart, truth, and direct speak to the world of books, any avid readers shouldn't miss it. From talking about what "banned books" means and does for the communities, to understanding what 1st Amendment Rights mean to writers and protestors of books, to leveraging analytics to determine if an author is actually worth shelf space, this episode covers a lot of interesting topics. With humorous concerns about whether she's being interviewed by the correct "Lambert" to a spirited explanation of why she's more invested in starting a book festival, Jenna Bowman shares insight and advice that will positively impact any business owner. Don't miss the ending when a wonderful sub for the podcast master helps to finish the episode! Podcast Studio Sponsor Podcast Sponsor Podcast Sponsor Episode 7-12 Sponsor Episode 7-12 Sponsor

We had some big gaming news over the last week between EVO 2023 and Pokémon Presents, thus giving us something to feast on before Gamescon. Meanwhile there has been a lot of movement out of Hollywood, not necessarily on the strike front, but news nonetheless. Barbie made a billion in under 20 days, Disney+ is following in Netflix's footsteps, and while Max is pulling a pandemic Netflix. Lin Manuel Miranda wants to adapt a classic for the stage, and Pixar isn't worried about the future. We cap off the show with the best movies from the 1970s.

Cute animals + death = a family classic? Yes, the 1973 Debbie Reynolds-led cast of Charlotte's Web had us smiling and singing as innocent barnyard animals contemplated their own mortality. Perhaps our senses were muddied while we witnessed this tale of piglet survival. So, fifty years later, we revisited the wonder and the worry (so much worry, Wilbur) of this Hanna-Barbera classic. Is Charlotte too blunt in her life lessons? Is Wibur too much of a wuss? And why doesn't Brian remember any of these songs? The Old Roommates get down on the farm and revisit the beloved musical. Ross Trudeau steps up to the plate, swings, and it's a hit -- because Ross Trudeaus' crosswords are always a hit. This is a more high-brow crossword than is typical for the New York Times, as there were 3 clues that tied in to 28D, Literary trio found in the answers to this puzzle's starred clues, THEBRONTES. Those clues -- 6D, Chain known for its soft pretzels, AUNTIEANNES; 25D, Prominent left-leaning political action committee, EMILYSLIST; and the rather lengthy 19A, Children's book whose title character says, "If I can fool a bug, I can surely fool a man. Charlotte's Web: Chapter 22 'A Warm Wind' by E.B. White FINAL CHAPTER | Children Book Read Aloud Back in the barn cellar again, Wilbur tucks Charlotte's egg sac into a safe corner. The other animals are glad to have him back, and Mr. Zuckerman hangs his medal on a nail over the pigpen. As the days pass, Wilbur often thinks of Charlotte. He misses his friend. But autumn comes, and then winter. Wilbur sees his first snow. He remembers his promise to Templeton and always lets the rat eat first when the trough has been filled. Indeed, Templeton has grown so big and fat he looks like a woodchuck. As the winter passes, Wilbur looks forward to seeing Charlotte's children hatch. "Life is always a rich and steady time when you are waiting for something to happen or to hatch," comments the narrator. https://www.coursehero.com/lit/Charlottes-Web/chapter-22-summary/

"Ursula Nordstrom (1910 - 1988) was publisher and editor-in-chief of juvenile books at Harper & Row from 1940 to 1973. She is credited with presiding over a transformation in children's literature in which morality tales written for adult approval gave way to works that instead appealed to children's imaginations and emotions." She authored the 1960 children's book The Secret Language, and a collection of her correspondence, edited by Leonard Marcus, entitled Dear Genius: the Letters of Ursula Nordstrom was published in 1998. Harper's received three Newbery Medals and two Caldecott Medals during Nordstom's tenure. She edited some of the milestones of children's literature, including E. B. White's Stuart Little (1945) and Charlotte's Web (1952), Margaret Wise Brown's Goodnight Moon (1947), Crockett Johnson's Harold and the Purple Crayon (1955), and Syd Hoff's Danny and the Dinosaur (1958). Other authors she edited included Laura Ingalls Wilder, Ruth Krauss, and Charlotte Zolotow. I talk to Leonard Marcus here about everything Ursula. Photo credit: Sonya Sones.

Charlotte's Web: Chapter 8 'A Talk at Home' by E.B. White | Children Book Read Aloud On Sunday morning at breakfast, Fern tells her parents the goose's eggs have hatched—all but the "dud" egg Templeton rolled away for himself. In recounting these events, Fern quotes "dialogue" from the barnyard. When Mrs. Arable realizes Fern thinks she has heard the barnyard animals talking, she gets worried. Fern's father reassures her: Fern just has a "lively imagination." Mrs. Arable, however, thinks Fern is acting very queerly and says she's going to talk to Dr. Dorian. Mr. Arable simply grins and says, "Maybe our ears aren't as sharp as Fern's." https://www.coursehero.com/lit/Charlottes-Web/chapter-8-summary/
