This week we are joined by Michael Petrella, Mike Perilli, and Mike Marzanek, as they discuss in detail their attempts to recreate the legendary Colorado Experiment. The Colorado Experiment was a bodybuilding experiment featuring Casey Viator and run by Arthur Jones using Nautilus equipment at Colorado State University in May, 1973. The first subject, Casey Viator gained as much as 63 pounds of muscle in 28 days and the second, Arthur Jones, gained 15 pounds in 22 days. It is of interest due to its claims that incredible results can be achieved with a small number of sessions (only 14 workouts) and using single sets of high intensity repetitions to momentary muscle failure focusing primarily on negative or lowering multi-joint exercises.
In this episode we had the pleasure of interviewing Michael Petrella, owner of one of the largest exercise machine collections in North America. Michael owns several unique pieces of Nautilus equipment, the company responsible for brining modern exercise machines to the masses. In this episode we discuss all things exercise machines, and the Colorado Experiment. For those who are unaware, the Colorado Experiment was a unique exercise endeavor where bodybuilder Casey Viator gained back ~45lbs of weight. Enjoy this fascinating episode of the Minds on Muscle Podcast.
