SUNNYVALE, California, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Matterport, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTTR), announced that Kikkoman Corporation, the world's leading soy sauce producer, has used Matterport's Digital Twin Platform to create a digital twin of the company's historic Goyogura soy sauce brewery. Originally established in 1939 as a dedicated facility supplying soy sauce to the Imperial Household Agency of Japan, the Goyogura brewery produces some of Kikkoman's premium series of soy sauces, including the ‘Goyogura Shoyu' and the D2C exclusive brand, 'Kikkoman Honten'. Although the brewery was moved to the current location in 2011 due to its age, it is still constructed with original elements of the historic facility like wooden barrels, stone walls, and gates, continuing to preserve its traditional brewing methods to supply the Imperial Household Agency with its world-renowned soy sauces. Using Matterport's Property Marketing solution, Kikkoman aims to offer factory tours to consumers so that it can be shared with the world. Enriched with notes, guides and videos, the digital twin serves as an educational resource for understanding and preserving the traditions and culture of soy sauce production. The company is also considering Matterport's Facilities Management solution for maintenance, repairs and measuring the space to reduce equipment management costs and time on site. By minimizing the need for personnel to physically enter and inspect the facility, the company would be able to save time and effort for hygiene management. The Goyogura brewery was captured quickly with Matterport's Capture Services and the Pro3, minimizing disruption to the facility's operations and ensuring low-impact on the historic equipment. Equipped with lidar and RGB sensors, Matterport's Pro3 produces both photo-realistic 3D tours and photos as well as detailed point cloud data that can be used for BIM (.ifc, .rvt) and CAD (.dwg) files. “As part of the branding of the ‘Goyogura Shoyu' and the ‘Kikkoman Honten' series, we believed that allowing customers to see the traditional brewing methods of the production site would create interest in the craftsmanship of our brewing process,” said Kaname Tsuji, Manager of the EC Strategy Group, Products Management Division. “Having seen the accuracy and smoothness of the technology, we considered Matterport capable of conveying the reality of the Goyogura brewery, providing access to areas of the facility which visitors cannot step in. We hope that through this special access, including views of the interior of our cedar brewing barrels, which are usually seen through glass, we will delight our customers as part of our exhibitions and communication on the D2C exclusive 'Kikkoman Honten'.” “We are honored that Kikkoman, a symbol of Japanese food culture, is using our services,” said Howard Xiao, President and Operating Officer of Matterport Japan K.K. “We hope that by utilizing Matterport, the charm and craftsmanship of traditional soy sauce production will be passed on to generations to come, not only in Japan but also overseas. We also look forward to supporting Kikkoman's consideration of uses in the future, such as our Facilities Management solutions, using the power of our digital twin platform as part of this journey.” The 'Goyogura Shoyu Brewery' is part of Matterport Japan's 'Connecting Culture and the Future with Digital Twins' project, which aims to digitize and widely share Japan's cultural properties and historical buildings such as Aso Shrine, Tenzan Sake Brewery and others. This audio is brought to you by Endress and Hauser, a leading supplier of products, solutions and services for industrial process measurement and automation. Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has added the Hilux double-cab and Fortuner 48 V mild hybrids to its local production line-up at its Durban plant in KwaZulu-Natal. The addition of the new models brings Toyota's local hybrid production tally to three, adding to the existing Corolla Cross hybrid assembly. TSAM says the launch of the models "introduces electrification to the pick-up and sports-utility vehicle (SUV) range for the first time". The Hilux is South Africa's best-selling vehicle, while the Fortuner still commands the largest slice of the medium SUV segment in South Africa, with average sales of more 800 units a month and a market share of 40%. "By adding a hybrid 48 V system to the Hilux and Fortuner, Toyota strengthens its inclusive multi-technology pathway approach to carbon neutrality," notes the local arm of the Japanese manufacturer. "Toyota believes all customers need a variety of affordable and practical options, including for commercial and off-road vehicles." The hybrid system uses Toyota's 2.8 l diesel engine. This engine drives a compact motor generator using a belt system, which, in turn, charges the new 48 V, 7.6 kg lithium battery, which is small enough to be installed under the rear seats to minimise impact on cabin space. This battery also supplies the vehicle's 12 V system. Like Toyota's full hybrid electric systems, the battery is charged during deceleration, regenerating braking energy that would otherwise be lost, while also adding additional braking performance. Once charged, the battery sends up to 12 kW of power and 65 Nm of torque through the motor generator to the engine to enhance acceleration, power and efficiency. Toyota says the motor generator is compact and has been designed to withstand the harsher working environments of commercial vehicles, while the engine has been modified to adapt to the hybrid system. "A new two-arm belt tensioner and stronger belt material contribute to the improved drivability and a quieter ride, whilst retaining the vehicle's famous durability." Toyota also notes that the hybrid system, as well as an enhanced stop-start system that allows the engine to remain off for longer periods, both serve to improve fuel efficiency by up to 5% compared with the conventional non-electrified diesel powertrain. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota and Ford are all currently producing some form of hybrid in South Africa, or will soon do so.

“Manufacturing is critical to our national security, our health and our ability to explore new worlds and advance the human condition... VulcanForms exists to move manufacturing forward and be a small piece, hopefully a very important piece, of that future.” VulcanForms is an MIT-born company that builds and operates advanced digital manufacturing infrastructure, founded in 2015. It's named after Vulcan, the roman god of fire and metalworking. Why? Because the company has developed an innovative new way of manufacturing intricate metal parts on an industrial scale. They use metal additive manufacturing, a form of 3D printing to print engineered metal components that require precise designs and complex structures. This means they can have a production line that can at one time be making components for medical devices, then switch to making consumer electronics, and another week be making products for aviation, space exploration or the defence industry. What's more this production line is quieter, cleaner and greener than ever more! Manufacturing components this way instead of the traditional method of forging them cuts down on costs and removes the need for a supply chain. In this episode, Co-Founder John Hart takes us around VulcanOne, VulcanForm's Foundry in Massachusetts, to find out more. We also hear from Brian Thompson at PTC, who tells us about how the 3D CAD software Creo helps the team at VulcanForms collaborate on their designs to perfect this alternative manufacturing process.VulcanForms is supported by PTC Partner PDS Vision, find out more about here Find out more about Creo hereYour host is Paul Haimes from industrial software company PTC. Prices now starts from £33,805 OTR for the BMW i3 and £34,805 OTR for the sporty BMW i3s before the grant. The government offers consumers grants of up to £2,500 for electric vehicles on cars priced under £35,000, down from the previous maximum of £3,000 for cars under £50,000. The all-electric BMW i3 has a range of 182-190 miles (WLTP) (173-150 miles WLTP for the BMW i3s). TESLA SEMI PRODUCTION LINE AT NEW NEVADA BUILDING "Tesla is building a new Tesla Semi production line at a new building near its Gigafactory Nevada plant, and it plans to produce five electric trucks per week, according to sources familiar with the matter." says electrek: "Now, we can confirm that the building, which sits at 550 Milan Drive (pictured above) next to another building used as a warehouse by Tesla, is housing a new production line for Tesla Semi currently being deployed by the automaker. Reliable sources familiar with the matter told Electrek that Tesla is currently building a low-volume Tesla Semi production line in the building. Once completed, they expect a production capacity of five Tesla Semi electric trucks per week. The plan is still for volume production to happen at Gigafactory Austin once Tesla can also ramp up battery cell production there." https://electrek.co/2021/03/30/tesla-semi-production-line-new-nevada-building-electric-trucks-per-week/ MUSK SAYS CELL SUPPLY SHORTAGE MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SCALE TESLA SEMI PRODUCTION Elon Musk said in a tweet on Tuesday the near-term cell supply shortage makes it difficult to scale the production of Tesla Semi commercial truck. MERCEDES-BENZ AMG'S FIRST DEDICATED EV ARRIVES IN 2021 "Mercedes-Benz AMG's first dedicated electric vehicle will arrive this year, the company announced late on Tuesday during a presentation of its electrification strategy for the coming years. The vehicle is expected to be a variant of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan (shown above), but it won't be a heavy hitter like AMG's 63 series. Rather, it will sit in AMG's first rung of performance like the current batch of 35- and 53-series cars." says Motor Authority: "AMG has confirmed that its full lineup will eventually be made of EVs, though only when the technology is ready, which could be more than a decade still." https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1127705_mercedes-benz-amg-s-first-dedicated-ev-arrives-in-2021 ESPRINTER TO BE BUILT AT THREE PLANTS Management and employee representatives at Mercedes-Benz have struck an agreement to build the next generation eSprinter van, which is based on the newly developed Electric Versatility Platform, at three locations: North Charleston, South Carolina, Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde in Germany. Based on a new platform announced at the end of 2020, the next generation of the eSprinter targets new customer segments and markets, including the USA and Canada. Mercedes-Benz is investing around €350 million in the next generation eSprinter. The necessary conversion measures in plants and retraining is currently in preparation. MERCEDES EQS HAS A 141CM CURVED SCREEN COVERING 3 DISPLAYS "Mercedes-Benz has unveiled new interior shots of the upcoming EQS. There’s definitely a lot going on here, including a modern, refined interior with a lot more displays and a lot less physical buttons. The headline to the show is the the massive piece of glass in the dash. This curves in three-dimensions and overlays 3 displays. The UI is known as the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) and this new triplescreen interface is known as the Hyperscreen." reports Tech.au: "The optional extra consists of 3 separate displays that span over 141 centimetres wide. The driver display is 12.3″, the largest central display is 17.7″ and the front passenger display is 12.3″. While Merc would love for you to think of this as one seemless display, the reality is, it isn’t. The back row passengers don’t get ignored either with a display of their own, connected to the back of the front seat" https://techau.com.au/mercedes-eqs-has-a-141cm-curved-screen-covering-3-displays-0-menu-levels/1 EQS TO FEATURE BIOMETRIC TECH "Car Throttle reports that the vehicle will use facial recognition technology to recognize both the driver and passengers, and tailor various settings to the riders based on past preferences." says Mobile ID World: "The auto industry is quickly becoming a major commercial adopter of biometric technologies, with computer vision and facial recognition being among the most popular. It has yet to be officially revealed whether the EQS will also feature Mercedes’ MBUX (Merced-Benz User Experience) platform, which brings with it a slew of voice-based interactions, and allows for further user customization. Mercedes did recently announce the renewal of its partnership with artificial intelligence expert Cerence — whose speech recognition technology is behind MBUX — so the inclusion of that platform and its speech recognition capabilities certainly seems possible." https://mobileidworld.com/new-mercedes-eqs-feature-biometric-tech-that-can-recognize-driver-passengers-032906/ EV BATTERY STARTUP POACHES OIL VETERANS TO BUILD ARCTIC FACTORY "A Norwegian battery maker is giving executives from the oil, gas and aluminum industries a new lease of life, tapping their experience to gain an edge in the race to electrify cars." says JWN ENergy: "Freyr AS plans to start a pilot plant near the Arctic Circle in Norway by next year after hiring a handful of executives accustomed to running big, complicated and costly projects. Freyr will invest between $2 billion to $2.5 billion until the middle of the decade. That’s down from an estimate of $4.5 billion as recently as two years ago because of decisions on the technology to use. Its first commercial factory is scheduled to start production in the first half of 2023." https://www.jwnenergy.com/article/2021/3/24/ev-battery-startup-poaches-oil-veterans-to-build-a/ WHY ELECTRIC VEHICLE SUBSIDIES ARE A BAD IDEA "right now they are very expensive. But that does not mean their purchase should be subsidised. It just means that we should wait for the cheaper vehicles. All a subsidy will do is provide a windfall gain for those who were going to purchase an electric vehicle anyway and encourage others to make an expensive purchase. This will contribute nothing to meeting the 2050 target, because by 2050 nearly all those expensive cars will have long since been scrapped" writes The Spinoff: "he EV uptake rate would be higher in New Zealand than in Europe and Japan by 2040 without a New Zealand subsidy, rather undercutting the argument that providing a subsidy now is somehow necessary for the long term development of the EV market." https://thespinoff.co.nz/money/31-03-2021/why-electric-vehicle-subsidies-are-a-bad-idea/ NEW VIRGINIA LAW TO REQUIRE SALE OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES "Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has signed a bill that will require car manufacturers to sell a certain percentage of electric or hybrid vehicles. The goal is to reduce air pollution. Transportation is the leading source of greenhouse gas pollution in Virginia, and this measure will help to cut down on that." https://www.nbc12.com/2021/03/31/new-virginia-law-require-sale-electric-vehicles-order-reduce-pollution/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM What incentive would make the most difference to you buying an EV? This episode will take a look at your schedule, most importantly how to make your schedule hum with productivity and not business!Let’s start with a quote from Stephen Covey…we all know him from his best-selling books, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, First Things First, and Principle-Centered Leadership.Stephen says…"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities."I, you, we are constantly bombarded by marketing messages vying for our attention and clicks. These are commonly presented with email subject lines like the following I received over the past week…* How to help your practice emerge from the Pandemic…* Dentists' biggest practice challenges…* Steps to Take for an All-Star Practice…* Positioning your practice for Growth…* How to Turbocharge your Practice…* Marketing Ideas that will take your practice through the roof…Our Team here at OmniStar DSO is all about "Simplifying the Complex!"I can think of no better or more productive area to focus on than your Scheduling Framework or Template. Our Subject line will be… Scheduling…are you hitting your Target?Get your scheduling meme right, and everything else will flow.Yes, there are many essential and critical KPIs to monitor and track; we coach and teach our clients. The beauty of designing a scheduling framework is that it is easy to tell how well your Team is meeting spec. If your block booking is set up correctly, it should be obvious how well your Team is doing just by looking at the scheduling screen on your computer.Yes, there are other important tasks and goals your practice must monitor and achieve. You must collect patient payments, keep receivables low, manage your employees, control operational and administrative expenses along with clinical supply costs. And last but not least, you must provide exceptional dentistry. With that said, getting your scheduling dialed in should be a high priority. For me, “dialed in” means…having all of your chairs full with the optimal mix of ideal procedures, patients, and treatments.Let's work through some Scheduling Axioms that we use in my practice and coach our clients on.Remember, get your scheduling meme right, and everything else will flow.I use the following Axioms as my scheduling foundation. Axiom 1: Being Busy is NOT the same a being Productive.Busy people; work at a frantic pace, are rushed, work harder, micro-manage, are fueled by perfectionism, multi-task, prioritize simple and mundane tasks and say "yes" by default. In contrast, Productive People; prioritize the most important tasks, work at a steady pace, are relaxed, work smarter, are fueled by purpose, focus on essential and complex tasks, delegate the simple, mundane, and repetitive tasks, and can say "no".Remember, it's ok to say "no." You are not the Coast Guard or US Military; you do not have to go out and rescue everyone. “Stay in your lane, bro…” as the AT&T commercial says.along with “Just Ok, is not Ok!”With these ideas in mind, one can begin to see that a jam-packed schedule may or may not be a productive schedule. So let's get productive…Axiom 2: Prioritize your Schedule for ProductivityCategorize and colorize your new patient exams, consults, and procedure mix on your schedule. Determine for yourself what your ideal procedure mix is. This will be different for everyone. What do you enjoy most in your practice? There should be lots of time for these appointments. What do you enjoy least? There should be very little time, if any, for these procedures on your schedule. As you become busier, these may be procedures you will refer out or cease performing completely. Remember from Axiom #1- it's ok to say "No."Let's make some business comparisons to help drive home this point.Your New Patient Exams, Consults and Treatment Presentation appointments are like Inventory in a manufacturing or merchandising business. It is an Asset waiting to be converted into a Product, your Dentistry. Your Procedure or Treatment Schedule is analogous to your Production Line, where you covert that asset into your dentistry, and in the process generate revenue. If your Inventory of New Patient Exams, Implant Consultations, and Treatment Presentations is low, your conversion of these assets into Implants, Crowns, and Bridges, or Restorations will be low too.Put another way…You can't schedule the production if you don't schedule the patient exam. So, you need to balance the availability of a precise mix of new patient exams and treatment presentations to keep your treatment schedule full. It's a balancing act; too many new patients will delay care without sufficient treatment appointments, keeping patients waiting. If patients have taken the time to visit you and your office, they are highly motivated. Please don't make them wait!A sidebar here…the lag time between diagnosis and treatment is a critical KPI. As this time lengthens, the practice owner may consider expanding hours, expanding the physical plant, or adding a provider. This can be a Blind Spot for a practice owner. A Profit Leaks Analysis by our experienced Team at OmniStar DSO can help identify if you have a bottleneck in your practice that needs to be corrected.Axiom 3: Rocks, Pebbles, and SandTime is a finite resource. Use a Block Scheduling Framework to allocate your time and schedule. I like to use the Rock, Pebble, and Sand analogy when designing a maximum productivity schedule.Rocks are your anchors, your most enjoyable, productive, and profitable procedures. These will tend to be longer appointments. They should be added to your schedule first and always have the highest priority. These treatments should be scheduled at your most productive time of day. Remember, this is unique to you. Your Rocks are the cornerstone of meeting your daily production goals. After Rocks comes Pebbles, smaller, more limited treatments with shorter appointment times that are used to fill in around your Rocks. Finally, add the Sand; short appointments, post-op checks, limited emergency exams, and very brief restorative appointments. These are scattered to fill your gaps between the Rocks and Pebbles.Sometimes it helps to think of Rocks, Pebbles, Sand in reverse. If you start with the Sand, you will never add enough Pebbles and Rocks to make for a productive and profitable schedule. You will have created BUSY, but NOT productive and violated Axiom #1- Being Busy is NOT the same a being Productive.Next…Axiom 4: Block Opportunity and Emergency Time into your schedule every day.I want my schedule to be on autopilot. I do not want to be tracked down in a treatment room or in a hallway, or at my desk and asked what to do with a patient or referring office that is on the phone. After all, I have hired people who should be scheduling for me. I have found that "on the fly", “in the hallway” and "armchair" scheduling is not productive. It is paramount that you empower and train your staff exceeding well, and hold them accountable so that they can make these decisions for you. They will know and should know, more about the schedule than you. Your scheduling staff should be the ones micromanaging this. When they do make sound decisions and hit the Bull's Eye with a full and productive day, make sure to praise and recognize them for their achievement. After all, it will not happen every day. The one thing that can throw a monkey wrench into the best schedule is Emergencies and Urgencies, so we must plan for these eventualities. These are excellent sources of new patients and new referrals for your practice and should be accommodated. To make this easier for all, earmark the best time slots for these patients on a daily basis. This can be determined in your morning huddle, where open slots for emergencies can be identified. Bingo, they no longer have to ask you! Let’s get these patients in and triaged.A side note here. As a specialist, I recommend that our referring dentists see their emergencies immediately before and/or after lunch. If a referral is needed, there is still time in the day to accomplish that. The veritable 4 pm emergency slot will unlikely have time to be seen by you, referred, and treated by a specialist that same day. There is nothing more frustrating for everyone; the patient, the referring dentist, and the specialist to have to appoint an emergency patient the next day. Finally, in addition to emergencies, identify an opportunity slot every day. This can be a highly productive treatment and one that you enjoy. For our oral surgery practice, we will always have time to see a patient with a painful, infected wisdom tooth; that's what we love to do!And last, but not least…Axiom 5: Keep ScoreIf you don't measure it, you can't manage it…especially your schedule.I know there are countless reports your Practice Management Software can print out to monitor your scheduling. By the nature of reports, they are historical. The schedule is so critically important that I monitor it daily.I prefer a real-time assessment and visualization of our scheduling efficiency. To accomplish this, I do the following.Daily, the doctors, and our administrative staff scan the schedule several days ahead, identifying available appointment times at each of our locations. If one location is booked full, they are aware that appointments can be scheduled in the other locations.Next, I briefly meet with my Treatment Coordinator at the end of every day. I want a summary of every new patient; did they schedule? do they need to check with family? do we need to verify a secondary insurance? do they need to apply for Care Credit? If they did not schedule and treatment was recommended, there is a follow-up plan for each patient. We start by doing whatever we told them we would do, and reach back out to them once the required information is obtained. If they indicated they would call us back, a reminder is put on the schedule to call them within a three-day window if they have not called us.Every month, our Scheduling Coordinator assembles a report that tracks every appointment category for each doctor. The doctors monitor and track this report for any changes. I hope these Axioms, guidelines, and guardrails will help assist you in engineering your "Perfect" schedule. After all, it's like Yogi Berra once said…."You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going because you might not get there."While working towards your Perfect schedule, you will have numerous "near misses." Remember, don't panic!Avoid the temptation to throw your guidelines out the window and fill the schedule with Sand and Pebbles. It is very easy to do. Be patient. Resist being swayed. At least until 24 hours before an open appointment. In our practice, we have the "24 Hour Rule". Everyone knows it and quotes it! We keep to the guidelines until the day prior when the "24 Hour Rule" kicks in. Scheduling is easy here. Our motto is "book 'em Danno!" for those of us that remember Hawaii 5-0!! Said another way; schedule patients who can come in today or tomorrow; some work is better than no work. You can never recapture the lost time once your day is done. Those empty slots and lost appointments are gone forever!Remember the old dental adage…”Consider yourself unemployed for the time that your chairs are empty!"' Nuff Said.Excellent…Time to wrap this up with a quick summary…Our Axioms are…Axiom 1: Being Busy is NOT the same a being Productive.Axiom 2: Prioritize your Schedule for Productivity.Axiom 3: Rocks, Pebbles, and Sand.Axiom 4: Block Opportunity and Emergency Time into your schedule every day.Axiom 5: Keep Score.I know that if my schedule is kept full, I will meet or exceed my production goals every time with the correct mix of appointment types.Try it… you'll like it!

But if a printer goes down, no product is going out the door. In this episode of “Automation Chat,” Executive Editor Theresa Houck is joined by Adem Kulazovic, Director of Product Management at Rockwell Automation Encompass Product Partner Domino Amjet, to talk about how coding automation can help improve productivity, reduce errors and avoid unplanned downtime.Coding automation means automating the manual process of ensuring the correct information is printed on the right products and packages, reducing human error in label selection and management, then integrating that data with existing ERP or SCADA systems. We also chat about the importance of industrial communications standards such as Fieldbus for communication and data sharing; and more. And of course, get your family-friendly, silly Joke of the Day.Additional resources:Domino Amjet: www.domino-printing.comWhite Paper — Industry 4.0 and the Food Processing Industry: Building the case for coding integration: https://bit.ly/3bbF8yuIf you like “Automation Chat,” please leave us a good rating and review on your app.And tell your peers about “Automation Chat.” You can even hit the Share symbol to share your favorite episode with others.Video of this podcast is available on our YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/vIg1yIGbtsM.Visit The Journal From Rockwell Automation and Our PartnerNetwork magazine online at http://rok.auto/thejournal.

Aston Martin 's first sport utility vehicle rolled off the production line on Thursday, key to hopes of a turnaround at the luxury carmaker which has seen changes in management and ownership over the last few months amid a torrid performance. Since then it has announced job cuts, is replacing its boss and has picked a new finance chief among a series of changes as it also responds to the coronavirus pandemic. Aston's Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman said the DBX has become the car that will drive Aston Martin into a bold new era. The DBX vehicle is the company’s first foray into the lucrative sport utility vehicle market, a late entrant compared to many rivals such as Volkswagen-owned Bentley and BMW’s Rolls-Royce. Want to have predictability and consistency in your trading? This is how...
One of the biggest challenges for retail traders is being consistent with their trading. Often, they inject too much discretion into their trading only to have it break their strategy and biases creep in to throw their returns off course. So, in this week's show, Sean and Phil break down the 5 critical rules you need to have in your trading plan to create a true production line trading process that eliminates emotion and allows you to generate those predictable consistent returns of a Rebel Trader.

You’re in for a treat because today’s special episode of Fer Sure was recorded in the locker room of Joe Louis Arena (Peter was in Fer Sure NJ studios) with guests Craig Custance and Max Bultman from The Athletic Detroit! Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Guest Intro : (00:00 - 06:30) Jay and our guests set the scene for our temporary recording studio. HHOF and Jersey Retirements: (06:30 - 24:45) The Hall of Fame class and the chances for recently former Red Wings to make it in the future. Then Jay asks about jersey retirements, but not for the players you think. Crosschecks with Guests!: (24:45 - 38:47) Jay asks Craig and Max for their quick-fire thoughts on a few topics in the NHL, and we learn they have a different definition of “quick-fire.” Then, Peter asks each of our guests a question. Tales From the Locker Room (38:47 - 57:43) Since we had access to an incredible temporary studio, it would have been a travesty not to talk about the locker room in general and this locker room specifically. Mailbag: (57:43 - 1:05:05) We only had time to ask maybe two questions, and there was no following the first question, so we just asked one. But we think you’ll like it. Production Line 3?: (1:05:05 - 1:17:41 ) We take a look back at the Production Line, decide whether or not there was a Production Line 3, and discuss if another line should be the next Production Line. Say Goodbye (Again) to The Joe: (1:17:41 - End) We close with our memories of the arena and then close out the show. Make sure to listen to the outro for a special remix of the theme song. The 1st Component: CLEAR JOB DESCRIPTIONS It has to be written up. Making a clear job description for each team member has to be in writing – enumerate the tasks for clarity and better understanding. I endorse a great book called ‘The E-Myth’ by Michael Gerber. It’s a fantastic book to read if you are a business owner. The author talks about the importance of having an organisational chart, applying to every single business. Overview of Departments: CEO Responsible for setting the vision and direction of the business An excellent leader Thinks strategically about the future of the business Marketing Department Takes care of effective branding and presence of the business Website maintenance as you need a method to reach new clients Open up new markets The brain of marketing This position needs energy to take charge of the marketing tasks Innovative I’d like to call it the Production Line of the business Sales Department They find the clients Highly essential in growing the business Operations Ensures every single task on your farms gets DONE Ensures all systems are functional and effective| Human Resource This is not applicable for small farms but certainly becomes an area as you get bigger The department that looks after the team Makes sure everyone is happy They facilitate performance reviews Takes care of the recruitment and motivation systems Manages training systems IT Department Sets up email addresses for each team member Makes sure everyone can communicate and connect Maintains all technical systems Administration Department Administration behind the book work Filing They work hand-in-hand with the Operations team Takes care of all the back-office tasks They are the behind-the-scene machine of a business Finance Department Responsible for budgeting All other business financial matters It is imperative that you split out these roles and get a lot of clarity as to what are all the tasks that need to be done to run your farming business. What typically occurs is, you being the business owner are also the busiest person doing everything that nothing really gets done well. And I find it humorous because you get to a stage where you feel you cannot do everything OR, You hire someone but not sure what you want them to do, resulting to them making a lot of mistakes And then, You start fixing all the mistakes and end up making a decision that no one can do the tasks as well as you. You take back all the jobs you have delegated which causes chaos because you failed to sit down and actually write out a list. THE REAL FIX: Have a concrete list. Write it out clearly. What tasks do you want team/family members to do for you? How do you want the tasks done? When do you expect results? Break the business up. Bring accountability and responsibility to certain components in running your business. START YOUR LIST NOW! Once you have your tasks list, think of a team/family member best suited for the work and write the name next to it. This is the easiest method to create a job description. The 2nd Component: GWC G – they Get it W – they Want it C – they have the Capacity to do it In running a world-class team, it is critical to make sure that the person you choose for each job ‘gets and understands’ the details of each task. I have had a number of examples on this in my career in running businesses and working with team members. Once I delegated a detailed job to a person that has an outgoing personality. This person doesn’t get detail. I was giving the wrong task but also this person may be way more suited in Marketing, as an example. Lesson here is, align the job description to the right personality. Kolbe.com is a fantastic tool I highly recommend. Get the team member do a personality profile. The results will tell you if a person is outgoing or an introvert, detail-oriented or people-oriented, and it effectively helps you to determine if the person gets it and wants it. It is pointless giving someone a job they do not want and then later on find out that there is a passionate person out there to do the job for you. In my case, I do not like doing the books for my business. This is why I outsource to someone who will do it. Someone who loves doing the books, wants it, is really good at it and can do the job quickly. Now on capacity, I make sure I do not overload their back. Never assign a task to someone who does not really have room to do it. Obviously because when they do not have the capacity, the results are substandard. So… Now that you have identified the person who gets the job, wants the job, has the capacity to do the job – It is critical that they are aligned with the values within your business. Take some time to listen to my podcast on getting more organized. I talked about having a strategic plan and getting clarity on your values. A lot of issues in business are actually related to you hiring team members that are not aligned to your business values. Do your part – document your values. Have clarity and documentation of your values. For example, reporting to work on time is one of your business values. This is already very clear but you have to make sure the team member also clearly understands and most importantly, shares the same value. For the documentation part, make sure it is written somewhere in the job description. The 3rd Component: SET VERY CLEAR EXPECTATIONS Honestly, how do you feel when your expectations are not met? In a performance review, how would you rate a team member who does not meet work expectations? A world-class business team sets very clear expectations and take note that this has to be a two-way relationship. Being the business owner, you have to clarify what you expect from the team and vice-versa. Again, write it down. With your expectations written down, it makes it easier to deal with conflicts for existing members, and it clarifies expectations for the new hires. As an example, in a case where I am employing a new team member, I would be clear right at the onset about the following: I want you to arrive 10 minutes before work starts I want you to not touch social media during work hours Personal calls have to be made during breaks only Every Friday, summarise what you have done for the week Every Monday, plan your week out Update your task list regularly and prioritise Notice the clarity of expectations in the given example. As a business owner, you would like your team members to maximize the week and this happens when you clearly tell them what you want, as they are not mind-readers. CLEAR COMMUNICATION GETS EVERYONE ON THE SAME PAGE. The 4th Component: HAVE A WEEKLY, QUARTERLY and YEARLY PLANNING When was the last time you went out on a team-building activity? Or strategy-planning? Get away with your team for: 1-2 days a year Half a day to a day every quarter At least 30 minutes every week Brainstorm time Ask the questions: What are our goals for the year? What do we want to achieve on a yearly basis? What strategies could we keep or replace to achieve our goals? Try the “rapid fire” activity. This is when you get to ask each of your team members in random order about your goals and they have to have an immediate answer. You would easily find out who among the team members do not know what your 9-year goals are, your next 12 months, etc. Everyone in the team has to know your business goals by heart. Imagine driving without any direction, you may still be able to continuously drive But, Where will you end up? It is very crucial for a team/family member to know your business goals, otherwise, those who do not will just wing it. Track your success. How did we go last week? Last quarter? Then plan strategically. What can we do better? What are we going to focus on next week? Are there any issues we need to resolve? This is the very time that team members should practice open communication and honesty. The more you communicate, the smoother your team works. There is more energy, more clarity, more professionalism in the team. As a business owner, you cannot go wrong doing this because, if you want to be a profitable farmer – YOUR TEAM IS YOUR BIGGEST ASSET And ultimately, often your biggest expense, so – If you can help your team become more productive, you will generate more profitability. Get more out of your team – having ONE great team member will beat THREE average. The 5th Component: PUT SYSTEMS IN PLACE AND TRAIN YOUR TEAM Food for thought: You are better off training a team member and they leave, then not training them and they stay. The very first thing you should do, even before training, is to put some basic systems in place. The top producing farmers that we currently work with have systems for everything: Systems for operational duties Systems for books and finance Systems for administration Systems for maintenance A system is simply a checklist of what needs to get done into the standard that you want as the business owner. The reality is, if you don’t put up systems in place, then the team members wing it. And if they wing it – Mistakes are made in tasks, it costs you time fixing errors - which ultimately leads to reduced profitability. THE REAL FIX: Get systems in place Train the team on the systems Maintain the systems Keep systems up-to-date THE RESULT: Highly efficient team Tasks are accurately completed in a timely manner Team members become more energetic You embrace new learnings and continue to look at what you need to continuously train the team on You become a master in delegating tasks You become overly comfortable in handing out the control and letting others do the work for you You can never run a freedom farm if you are doing everything yourself. You have to slowly let go… As a matter of fact, the most successful farming business owners slowly hand over every task that they are doing on their farm to team/family members. With the systems and proper training in place, they are able to maximise the team. The 6th Component: REWARD and RECOGNISE YOUR TEAM. PROVIDE FEEDBACK. LOOK FOR PRAISE Notice that in this current generation, service surveys are just everywhere. From text messaging to online surveys, hard-copy feedback sheet and of course, the infamous social media. It just proves the power of giving feedback. You do need to go out of your way and give that feedback to each team member for a job well done. A lot of farmers are a little bit guilty about this. Unfortunately, farmers that I meet are pretty hard on themselves. Not to blame them completely because they were brought up in a very tough environment and because they are hard on themselves, they become hard on their family or team members (this is just a bit of generalisation from me). As a business owner, you would want to be the very first person to praise your team. Just imagine how doing so extensively motivates and renews the energy of your team. As a business owner, you would want your team members to see where they can improve. Then use the systems to train them. Make them feel that you’ve got their back! I grew up in a farming community and looking back, there was not a lot of reward and recognition going on. In my career as a business coach for 19 years now, I have seen the huge impact on business owners when they focus on rewards and recognition to teams and team members. So, take the time to provide feedback – Both positive and negative. The 7th Component: YOU NEED TO TRUST Where there is no trust, there is no team. I remember when I was younger and played Rugby Union, was always in the forwards then moved to the backs when I got older. I was a breakaway – meaning I was like a defender and covered mistakes being made at the backs. My goal was to defend and also be there in attack. But later in my career, I moved out into the backline and became an inside centre. I was so busy focusing on helping out others do their jobs having this breakaway mentality. Until I realised I was the one creating the holes in the backline. I was the one who allowed people to break through the backline and score thrice. This is all because I wasn’t trusting the people around me. The loss of trust is very true in the business world. There are those who hand team members tasks but really do not trust that they will do the task well or might do it the exact same way they do. As a result… They become controlling as a business owner. You can never grow as a world-class company if you are like that. You have to be comfortable handing over tasks to others and TRUST them to do the work. TRUST that they can perform the same way you do, if not better. Besides, how can you run a freedom farm if you are doing all the tasks yourself? This is why you have to: LET GO SLOWLY DELEGATE WITH TRUST GRADUALLY HAND OVER RESPONSIBILITY Because of trust, some of our top performing farmers in our coaching groups now go on holidays during the busiest times of the year. 3-4 weeks of vacation and come back to see for themselves that their team actually has done a better job than what they could. THE ULTIMATE OBJECTIVE OF BEING A WORLD-CLASS FARMING BUSINESS OWNER IS NOT ABOUT BEING THE BUSIEST PERSON But, BEING THE MOST LAID-BACK AND HIGH YIELDING BUSINESS OWNER Let go of your fear of control – A lot of people fear that when they hire someone else, they make less money – Hang on… TIME IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE ASSET …IT IS OKAY TO LET GO. _________________________________________________________________________ For your quick reference – the 7 Components are: Clear Job Descriptions GWC Set Clear Expectations Have a system for yearly, quarterly, weekly Planning and Communication. Put Systems in place and Train your team Reward and recognize your team. Provide feedback, look for praise Trust and let go Again, if at any stage you’re interested in having a conversation about our coaching and mentoring programs, please feel free to reach out. Saturday 14th April 2018. ELON SHOWS OFF MODEL 3 PRODUCTION LINE CBS cameras got to see what we’ve always wanted – behind the scenes of the Model 3 Production Line. CBS began by saying “The pioneering electric car company Tesla has suffered a series of very public challenges since the beginning of this year. Its high-profile CEO Elon Musk called this a period of "production hell." Most of the troubles revolve around the company's Model 3 sedan, its first mid-priced, mass-produced electric car. Now this is what I’ll do, the audio is 9 mins long if you edit together all the different videos they put out, so I’ll put that out as a special podcast straight after this one. That way if you’re not bothered by Tesla – and whilst it has its fans I know some people don’t want to know every minor details – you don’t have to download it. AUDI E-TRON VISION The Audi e-tron VisionGT, that’s the car which started life as a Gran Turismo computer game car until Audi went ahead and made one for real, has hit the track in Rome. It’s at the Formula E event there. Audi Sport tweeted: “Our first passenger in Rome: Formula Es Alejandro Agag.” GM MAKING CARS BASED ON BOLT TECH Ken Kelzer, GM’s vice president has pointed to GM launching two new electric cars based off the Bolt technology. He also made clear ICE isn’t dead yet even through they’re pushing forward with EVs. “It’s not like we’re leaving internal combustion engines behind — we’re working on both. Depending on what’s going to happen with government regulation and consumer acceptance, that’s when we’re going to find out. Everyone in the industry is working to make internal combustion engines more efficient.” GM EXPANDS FAST CHARGING NETWORK WITH EVGO As electrification of the transportation sector expands, automakers are trying to attract customers by guaranteeing them a place to charge. EVgo's new announcement shows that strategy can extend into the car sharing market, reports Utility Dive: "Maven makes carsharing for the Gig economy easier," Julia Steyn, vice president Maven and urban mobility at GM, said in a statement. The agreement will make charging "seamless," she said. “EVgo will construct an electric vehicle fast charger network for General Motor Co.'s car sharing brand available to Maven Gig Chevrolet Bolt drivers. EVgo operates the largest network of public fast charging stations in the United States, and the agreement builds on work the two companies are already doing in more than a half dozen major cities. The move is a sign more auto brands are associating themselves with specific charging networks. For instance, BMW's ChargeNow program offers two years of free charging at participating EVgo stations.” SHARING ECONOMY APPLIED TO EV CHARGING “EV charging points in the UK could be 100,000 locations if everyone shared their connection. That’s according to low carbon vehicle infrastructure firm Bookmycharge”, says EnergyLiveNews, “which expects this figure to soar following a 13.5% rise in the sale of EVs between January and March, compared to the same period last year. It says there are now more than 85,000 chargepoints operating at homes across the UK, compared with 6,152 public charging locations. Jan Stannard, Co-Founder of Bookmycharge, said: “We want to encourage a ‘sharing economy’ approach so that the EV community has guaranteed access to the wealth of home charging locations across the country.” BMW ON TARGET FOR EV SALES Praise be to BMW who are sharing more sales data than most. ElectricCarsReport points out that “The BMW Group is targetingsales of at least 140,000 electrified models in 2018 and is well on track to achieving that, with global sales of these models totalling almost 27,000 the Q1. First-quarter sales of BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles leapt 78.0% in the USA, the company’s largest single market for electrified vehicles. With a total of 5,743 vehicles delivered in the first three months of the year, 8% of all BMW Group sales in USA were electrified.” DRIVETRIBE TO PROMOTE AUDI EVS “Auto publisher DriveTribe has brought aboard one of the world’s biggest car manufactures as its first major partner” according to The Drum, “Audi will use DriveTribe as a hub and lean on its editorial team to tell unique stories about Audi’s electric vehicle plans and products. Additionally, this will promote Audi’s EV push to an audience of engaged car enthusiasts.” STUDY SAYS AMPLE GRID CAPACITY FOR EVS “Electricity distribution networks in Europe run at well below their full potential, finds a new study from the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP). The findings show that the unused network capacity could be utilised for charging electric vehicles with little or no need for additional capacity. Smart pricing and smart grid technologies will be the keys” says The Energy Collective: “Shifting EV charging to periods when existing resources are readily available would keep incremental investment in infrastructure to a minimum. All consumers, not just those with EVs, would benefit from spreading the costs of existing infrastructure over more load and minimising risky new investment.” I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. J.J., Graham, and Kyle will be joined by Michael Petrella, formerly of The Production Line and current voice behind the @TPLhockey twitter feed. Petrella will be joining us to follow up on last week's article about the Red Wings and their relationship with the local media, which attempted to find answers as to why the local mainstream coverage is fairly bland and repetetive. We'll be taking reader questions both in the chat and at the main page mailbag post. If you have anything you want to cover, let us know and we'll ask Petrella. Learn more about your ad choices. Let's put videogames to one side for a moment, as if we didn't do that enough already. With under four weeks to go until the One Life Left team's latest public humiliation it's time to get serious. About comedy. With that in mind, please welcome Radio 4 comedy producer and very special guest Tilusha to the studio. Also: ++ Videogame features, including Derek Williams! ++ Chiptune music, including tracks by IAYD and Massive Until Morning! ++ Reviews, previews and general gossip. If that seems vague that's because we recorded this six days ago and every word I type here is another moment this isn't being podcast. SORRY. Email us some letters. Book tickets for our preview show on the 23rd in London. Add us on Twitter. Do all those kinds of things! Yes! And again, sorry for the podcast delay, we were too busy negotiating a new contract with Resonance. We're demanding a shed! They're demanding professionalism. We'll work something out.
