On this ground-breaking episode of the True Tunes Podcast, we explore fascinating corners of the current - and quite compelling - world of indie music being made by artists determined to use their work for spiritual purposes. Many are crafting tunes specifically for worship, while others are using their voices to shine a light on issues related to justice, theology, or life in general. Adam Lamah (Beach Chapel,) Stephen Lufkin, (aka Lovkn,) and Troy Culbreth (Cross Worship,) act as tour guides into this growing scene. We hear about their unique stories – and the emerging community of young artists blazing these trails without the support of traditional music business infrastructure. And when we roll out the True Tunes Jukebox, we let our guests load her up with records by Young Oceans, Lovelight, Taylor Armstrong, Them Parents, Antoine Bradford, Worship Mob, Paul Zach & Liz Vice, Andy Squyers, Wade Walker, John Mark Pantana, and then JJT tops it off with a classic track by The Violet Burning. Beach Chapel came to our attention a few weeks ago when we got a message through the contact form at TrueTunes.com. Adam Lamah heard about True Tunes via an Instagram post by our previous guest, Natalie Bergman. He and his friends have been cultivating a vibrant indie community, both online and in-person, and the resulting music is often spectacular. After he attended the True Tunes Live events in both San Diego (where he shared a couple of songs) and Newport Beach, CA (where he interfaced with second-wave artists Mike Stand of The Altar Boys, Chris Brigandi of The Lifters and Wild Blue Yonder, and others,) we decided that we needed to get Adam on the show to tell us about his impressions of today's sacred indie underground. He quickly asked if he could bring a "plus one." Stephen Lufkin, aka Lovkn, has been a lynchpin in this scene for years. We talked with both, as well as Troy Culbreth, a visionary pastor, artist, community leader and songwriter from Cincinnati who is using his indie Gospel/Worship collective Cross Worship to bring people together across all kinds of divides. Together we created a 100-song corresponding playlist as well! Young, fresh, exciting, idealistic, creatively uninhibited, and passionate, this generation of artists - many of whom are working way under the radar of today's music industry, might be changing the way people think about art, community, and worship. One of the main jobs True Tunes had 'back in the day' was to introduce our friends to excellent new sounds. We are wearing that hat once again - and it still fits! See the SHOW NOTES page for a complete list of all of the music used on this episode, and remember to check out the amazing work being done by VisionTrust as they come alongside local heroes around the world to lift children out of poverty and give them a bright future. Movie Menu Rants: About the Great Disney Conspiracy!! Panelist: Dan "The Man" Muñoz, Alexander z, and Mike Stand. Rant: The Walt Disney Company taking over and changing filmmaking for the rest of the studios. Moviemenureviews.com Facebook.com/moviemenureviews Twitter.com/moviemenureviews Instagram.com/moviemenureviews YouTube Channel: Movie Menu Notes: Let’s discuss the one studio that’s fucking it up for the rest of the studios.. in the sense of changing how films are made as we know them by owning everything! The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923 by Walt and his brother Roy, -Beauty and the Beast won Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical and was the first animated feature film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, changing the way the public viewed animation. -1995 Disney helps Pixar produce three computer animated feature films, first being Toy Story which was a box office hit changing the ways animated movies are made. -May 6, 2005 Disney buys Pixar for approximately 7.4 billion dollars. -In 2009 Disney buys Marvel Entertainment/Studios for 4 billion dollars -in 2012 Disney buys LucasFilms for 4 billion dollars and announces a new trilogy in the works as well as spin-off films that will be released between each new episode. -Pixar, Marvel, and LucasFilms are owned by Disney however are their own entities as studios. -Disney relaunched their animated feature films with Chicken Little all CG- animated movie. In 2012 Wreck-It Ralph was a huge hit reestablishing Disney animated features moving forward with Frozen another hit for them. -Disney has become a powerhouse with all their properties that they have acquired. -Marvel changed the way studios saw their properties creating their own MCU. Fox, Sony, and now WB/DC have expressed in creatING their own Cinematic Universes, a phrase first coined by Marvel. -LucasFilms- one of the biggest shockers was that Disney bought LucasFilms and new trilogy and spin-off films in the works. -Remember the day, Oct 30th 2012 -Marvel has had a great year this year, with the success of Captain America The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy… we will see how Ant-Man goes with Edgar Wright leaving, and cast members being dropped. Marvel of course aren’t stranger to negotiations going bad, like Terrence Howard and Edward Norton, not to mention the public hold out of Robert Downey Jr and the rest of the Avengers for bigger pay raise. They still have 6 unannounced Marvel films from now to 2019. LucasFilms announces JJ Abrams as director of Episode 7 of Star Wars as JJ was still promoting Star Trek. News blew up about WB making Justice League after Batman V. Superman Dawn of Justice with Zack Snyder returning to direct and the following day LucasFilms announces Cast of Star Wars Episode 7. Gareth Edwards announced to direct spin-off. Godzilla 2 is pushed back four years. Josh Trank, director of reboot for Fantastic Four is also announced for Spin-Off… where does this leave Fantastic Four 2? Well Disney has helped change filmmaking as we see it, they are like the mafia in Hollywood. We will see where they end up next.
