In this sermon titled “No Substitute,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones opens the word of God and confronts the tendency to depreciate preaching at the expense of other forms of activity. As those who have the good news, Christians must tell the truth. Other agencies, politicians, cults, false religions, and nonprofits can do their work, but they cannot preach the gospel. They can ease the pain of the human condition, but they cannot change the heart. The primary task of the church is not to make a person happy, good, or even well off. The primary task of the church is to deliver the truth about humanity and the remedy in Christ. The danger is that the church will tinker with the general symptoms and not address the cause. It takes a specialist to isolate the radical problem and deal with it. This is the work of every preacher, says Dr. Lloyd-Jones. When the church takes care of its primary purpose, God works through it to provide relief to others. The Protestant Reformation birthed hospitals, schools, many other relief efforts, and provided a stimulus to science, literature, etc. Dr. Lloyd-Jones adds that the preaching of the gospel from the pulpit, applied by the Holy Spirit, has been a means of dealing with personal problems that the preacher knows nothing about. Counseling has its place, but most counseling will be done from the pulpit. Anything else is a failure to fulfill the great mandate given to the church.

It's hard to overstate the importance of this week's meeting between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If they stand together, as Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill did in World War II's darkest days when Britain was otherwise alone, Israel will – with our material support – defeat our mutual enemies. If a united front is not the outcome, those enemies will be convinced they'll destroy not only the Jewish State but – in due course – America, as well. The regrouping, rearming, and preparations for renewed attacks on Israel now being undertaken by Hamas and other Sharia- supremacists cannot continue without dire consequences for both our nations and the Free World, more generally. We must, therefore, pray that mistakes like Biden's calamitous Gaza “ceasefire” are reversed in favor of a shared commitment to accept, in the words of Douglas MacArthur, “no substitute for victory.” This is Frank Gaffney.

In general, humans as a species have a fair amount of self-awareness. And if we're honest, we all know our weak points. Those places where character is lacking a bit.One of our biggest weaknesses is that we just want stuff. Bigger house, more expensive car—that kind of thing. In those moments, we're missing out on a big prize. Our focus is wrong.Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”The Bible—the Word of God itself—shows exactly what our priorities should be. God knows us far better than we could ever know ourselves, and He tells us that we have it exactly backwards. We look for the stuff, and then tack on the God stuff later. In fact, turn that around and that's how we should be doing life. Look for God first, and then later He'll give us the desires of our heart. Because our hearts will then be aligned with His perfect will for our lives.Try this approach, and see if it works for you. What we'll also find as a bonus is peace that the world can't give us…that stuff can't give us. When you seek first a relationship with your Creator, you find that material possessions are no substitute for knowing Him.Let's pray.Lord, thank you for our relationship with you. Thank you for loving us through our sin. In Jesus' name, amen.Change your shirt, and you can change the world! For C.S. Lewis, joy was a profound and mysterious experience that pointed toward a deeper truth that transcended the world of everyday pleasures and connected the human heart to the divine. It was an experience of longing for fulfillment and a reminder of a reality beyond the visible, tangible world. The joy we can feel in a relationship with God cannot be substituted for material riches and pleasure.

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.   One year ago today, Israel was murderously attacked by thousands of Sharia-supremacists from Gaza, including large numbers of civilians as well as Hamas terrorists with training and weapons provided by Iran.   Today, the war thus launched has devastated what amounted to a “Palestinian state” in Gaza and the Hamas crime syndicate that relentlessly used it as a platform to try to destroy the Jewish one.   Israel is now in the process of doing the same to areas of Lebanon controlled by Iran's foreign legion, Hezbollah. The jihadists' use of civilians to shield their operations in both places has resulted in regrettable collateral damage. But the prospect of their liberation offers a chance for a far better future.   That will require Israel to address, as well, the source of all these problems: namely, the Iranian regime.   There can be no substitute for victory.   This is Frank Gaffney.

Todays' Episode is a fast-moving, high-intensity blast from start to finish. That's mostly because of the people I'm talking to, but also due to the circumstances under which we are doing the talking. First the people. Richard Brindle is well known to anyone in our business as one of the most dynamic underwriters in the market. And anyone following the Fidelis story will know that now the business has split into the Fidelis Partnership and the Fidelis Insurance Group, Richard has freed up time to be even more dynamic. It's perhaps understandable that Richard Coulson, The Fidelis Partnership's CEO of Insurance & Deputy Group Chief Underwriting Officer, doesn't yet have the same public profile as his namesake, but on this performance it won't take long for that to start building. Secondly the venue was Monaco at the Monte Carlo RendezVous. The RendezVous always heightens the intensity of any interaction. People come there ready to communicate against the clock and that cut-to-the-chase feel very much comes through in this encounter. As a result this podcast covers everything it should – the state of global markets and where Fidelis is positioning itself to make the most of the opportunities those markets are throwing up, the Fidelis Partnership's entrance to Lloyd's and the two Richard's views on all the major issues of the day. Listening back this is a really enjoyable Episode, packed with singular, original and sometimes surprising insights. NOTES The Fidelis Partnership wanted to add the following points to our discussion about Intellectual Property (IP) insurance: Like others Fidelis exited the IP market earlier this year; Arguably IP is a great example of the bravery of innovation with measured downside and then pulling back quickly as soon as the warning alarms sounded; As a relatively small and well-managed book, there was very little impact on their overall exceptional long-term bespoke underwriting performance.  LINKS: We thank our naming sponsor AdvantageGo: https://www.advantagego.com We also thank audio advertiser, The Insurance Network (TIN), organiser of the highly-successful TINtech events series. Let us remember that nothing is a substitute for earnest prayer. Nothing can take its place. Today's church does many important things, but we must make prayer a priority. Main Points:1. This is a remarkable story of God's power and deliverance, but what stands out to me the most from this story is the commitment of the church to prayer. This miracle happened in the middle of the night. The church was not asleep because they knew the next day Peter would be put on trial. The church was having an all-night prayer meeting to ask God to protect Peter.2. It was a desperate situation but I believe they remembered that Jesus told them to “ask and it will be given you.” The Greek word tells us that they were “straining in prayer”.  It was not a casual prayer, “Lord, bless Peter tonight.” No, it was a desperate prayer, a fervent prayer, and an earnest prayer. They were seeking God. They were crying out to God for Peter's deliverance. This is intercessory prayer.3. When was the last time you gathered with other believers and prayed an earnest prayer? Let's recommit ourselves to prayer. The God who hears will answer.Today's Scripture Verses:Acts 12:5-10 -  “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter's wrists. Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.”James 5:16 - “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”Mark 11:17 - “My house shall be called a house of prayer.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Joining Darren this episode is Jude Blanchette. Jude holds the Freeman Chair in China Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). There's no-one whose analysis and commentary Darren values more highly in helping him understand China.   The context for this discussion is the fact that this weekend China's Premier Li Qiang will visit Australia, the first visit by Chinese #2 since 2017. Following on from PM Albanese's trip to Beijing late last year, and FM Wang Yi's trip to Australia in March, Premier Li's visit will continue the process of unfreezing the political relationship, what the current Australian government famously labels ‘stabilisation'. However, the Albanese government has not escaped criticism for its approach to China. Some would argue Canberra has gone softer on Beijing than it could have, whether on responding to dangerous actions by the Chinese military, or on perennial issues like human rights. And there's also been a criticism of stabilisation as strategy – what is the goal of stabilisation? What is the end state? What is striking about these criticisms is how similar they are to criticisms of the Biden's administration's approach to China, which is often given the label ‘competition'. What is the goal of competition? Does the US just ‘compete' indefinitely, a kind of steady-state, or should it be focused on an ‘end-state'? A recent piece by former Trump administration China lead Matt Pottinger and retiring GOP Congressperson Mike Gallagher argues that the goal should be not to compete, but to win. With all this as context, recently Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade hosted a group of US-based China experts here in Canberra, presenting Darren with an opportunity to interview Jude in-studio. Jude also hosts the excellent Pekingology podcast, where he interviews scholars and researchers who study the actions of China's government and the CCP in particular. In our conversation we cover Australia-China relations, US-China relations and the links between the two, and many other things besides. We start, of course, with the concept of stabilisation in the Australian context, but very quickly that broadens out into a discussion of the Biden approach given its parallels with stabilisation, and the Pottinger/Gallagher critique. We then turn to the question of how to influence China, and the balance between wielding direct influence versus working indirectly with partners. I ask Jude how he explains the apparent adjustment in PRC foreign policy in recent years, and how a potential Trump return to the Presidency might shake things up. Above all however the big question overshadowing our discussion is this: what's the best way of forging a long-term China strategy, how early are we into the competition phase with China, and how long will it last? And what is the narrative needed to sustain such a strategy? Australia in the World is written, hosted, and produced by Darren Lim, with research and editing this episode by Corbin Duncan and theme music composed by Rory Stenning. The opening verses of Parashat Behukotai describe the beautiful blessings that G-d promises to bestow upon Beneh Yisrael in reward for their compliance with the Torah's laws. The Torah introduces this section by saying, “Im Be'hukotai Telechu, Ve'et Misvotai Tishmeru” – literally, “If you follow My statutes, and you observe My commandments…” The Or Ha'haim Ha'kadosh (Rav Haim Ben-Attar, 1696-1743), remarkably, offers forty-two interpretations of this verse, uncovering for us the deeper layers of meaning behind this seemingly straightforward sentence. In presenting one of these explanations, the Or Ha'haim cites the Mishna's famous teaching in Pirkeh Abot (2:5), “Ve'lo Am Ha'aretz Hasid” – “An ignoramus is not a pious person.” The plain meaning of the Mishna is that one cannot properly observe the Misvot without educating himself, without investing time and effort into the process of learning so he knows what the Torah wants of us. The Or Ha'haim adds a deeper reading of the Mishna, explaining that it refers to acts of piety and measures of stringency beyond the Torah's strict requirements. The Or Ha'haim writes that a person cannot be a “Hasid,” a devoutly pious person, who observes additional stringencies, without learning Halacha, without properly understanding his basic obligations. If a person decides to adopt stringencies without learning, the Or Ha'haim writes, these stringencies might actually lead him to grievous transgressions, because the person will not know what Halacha allows and what it doesn't. As an extreme example, the Or Ha'haim writes that there was a person who decided to be “pious” by limiting marital relations to sacred occasions, Shabbat and Yom Tob. In his observance of this practice, this so-called “pious man” had relations on Yom Kippur, when, of course, relations are strictly forbidden. This demonstrates the grave dangers that one exposes himself to by being “pious,” accepting additional stringencies, before being educated about basic Halachic requirements. The Or Ha'haim explains on this basis the opening verse of Parashat Behukotai. The phrase “Im Be'hukotai Telechu,” as Rashi famously writes, refers to the study of Torah. The second phrase, “Ve'et Misvotai Tishmeru,” speaks of additional safeguards and stringencies, as the root of the word “Tishmeru” – “Sh.M.R.” – means “guard” or “protect.” The Torah here teaches us that only “Im Be'hukotai Telechu” – if a person devotes time and effort to the study of Torah – is it then appropriate for him to take on voluntary stringencies (“Ve'et Misvotai Tishmeru”). Piety must be pursued only with knowledge of Torah law. A person who thinks he can decide for himself how to be “pious,” how to be holy and G-d-fearing, he will end up making terrible mistakes and transgressing grave violations. The Or Ha'haim here conveys to us the message that there is no substitute for knowledge. If we want to achieve spiritual greatness – which, of course, we all should – then there are no shortcuts. Our intuition and “gut feelings” are not good enough. We cannot serve Hashem by doing what seems right to us, what we intuitively sense is noble and spiritual. We need to learn, to ask questions, to consult with Torah scholars, to seek guidance, and to make the time to acquire the knowledge we need to act the way the Torah wants us to act.

The Exact Steps To How I Generated 93% Retention On My Last Mastermind Launch

A key point of focus in business is your customer lifetime value and considering how you can continue to work with your existing clients over a longer period. As online business owners, we spend a lot of time and money on marketing and sales processes to generate new leads, but a smart business strategy is making your courses and programs so incredible that your existing clients want to keep working with you. We have recently celebrated a very successful launch of the Swiftmind Scaled Mastermind, not only selling out the mastermind but also generating a 93% retention rate. There are a number of things that I believe contributed to this so today I'm sharing the exact steps I took to retain so many existing clients in my latest mastermind launch. Being Unattached to the OutcomeI believe one of the reasons why I attract people into my programs is because I'm not attached to the outcome. One of my core beliefs is that I'm always working with the clients who are most aligned with my highest good, therefore whoever is not aligned will not continue with me, which is more than okay. This level of trust and unattached energy is magnetising to my ideal clients.Strategic Sales Process and Clear Communication For this specific launch, I re-invited my clients midway through the program and clearly outlined the offerings for the next round, making the transition seamless for people who were interested. The timing of this was around the same time that I had announced my pregnancy, so it was really important that I was clear on how clients would be supported in the next round. Creating an Ongoing ConversationMost clients got back to me quickly about whether they would be continuing on or not, but for those who hadn't, I made sure I continued the conversation in the months following. I sent personal voice messages making sure I was clear on the fact that I would love to continue working with them, and also leaving it with them to make the right decision for their situation. Iterating to Provide Ongoing SupportAnother important aspect of customer lifetime value is making sure that you continue to add value to your clients as their businesses grow. For this reason, my mastermind is always evolving to stay relevant. It's also vital that we deliver on our promises, making sure that the experience of the mastermind meets, and even exceeds my clients' expectations. There is No Substitute for ValueWhile I'm a big believer in sales and marketing strategies, the biggest factor that leads to high retention rates is having a standout program with incredible value. The reason why my clients want to keep working with me is because this mastermind provides them with incredible support every single day. There really is no substitute for a high quality program. High retention rates in masterminds aren't very common in this industry. But when you have an exceptional program and focus on building trust, delivering value and prioritising client relationships to create a truly remarkable experience for your participants, it is absolutely possible. Connect with Ellie: Website:         https://www.ellieswift.com/Instagram:     @elliehswiftFacebook Group:     www.facebook.com/groups/shineonsocialellieswift/
