The Messianic Jewish Expositor

Who knows best? Two angels are having a conversation in heaven:Bobby: You know, I was wondering how everything is going to get done perfectly in the future.Gabriel: What are you talking about, Bobby?Bobby: Well, remember what the Father says:1 Corinthians 2:9 (TLV) But as it is written, “Things no eye has seen and no ear has heard, that have not entered the heart of mankind—these things God has prepared for those who love Him.”Gabe: So what's your question, Bobby?Bobby: Well, I was listening to some humans talking yesterday. And these humans were born again and they read the Bible everyday. And they think that they are going to have a role in preparing the things that God is preparing for those who love Him.Gabe: Did they say why they believe that?Bobby: Yes they did. They quoted this verse:Romans 8:29 (TLV) For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.Gabe: OK. I get it now. They think God looked down the corridors of time to see who would choose Him. He “foreknew” these people - He knew they would choose Him, and so He decided to save these people.Bobby: That's right, Gabe. That's it!Gabe: And the humans you were listening to yesterday, and other humans like them, also believe that humans were never completely separated from God after The Fall in the Garden of Eden. They were never spiritually completely dead. They did not need to be elected by God to salvation from before the foundation of the world. They did not need to be regenerated by God. They don't believe this verse:Ephesians 1:4-5 (TLV) He chose us in the Messiah before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before Him in love. [5] He predestined us for adoption as sons through Messiah Yeshua, in keeping with the good pleasure of His will—Instead, they believe that their will had something to do with God's choice rather than the good pleasure of His will.Bobby: So what does the word foreknew mean in Romans 8:29, Gabe?Gabe: Bobby, we have to take the word foreknew in context:Romans 8:28-30 (NKJV) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. [29] For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. [30] Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.Bobby, by looking at this whole passage, we can see that foreknew refers to people called by God and not to the decisions these people make. The people God foreknew are the called according to His purpose. They are the ones predestined by God to be conformed to the image of Yeshua and these are the ones whom He also justified.Bobby: You've made it really clear, Gabe. Thanks. But don't humans have free will in any of this? I know that humans are really concerned about this.Gabe: Bobby, before a person is regenerated by God, he or she is as dead as a doornail spiritually. He or she cannot choose God. This spiritual death is a consequence of Adam and Eve disobeying God all the way back in the Garden.Genesis 2:16-17 (NKJV) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; [17] but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."But when God regenerates a person - when He causes them to be born again - He causes that person to become a new creation. That person now has a new spirit and is no longer dead. That person now freely chooses God and he or she is then saved, he or she is then converted. Isn't that wonderful Bobby?!Bobby: That is absolutely wonderful, Gabe! But there is one other thing. Some of these humans are going to say that by regenerating a person, God is making the choice to accept Him for that person. In other words, there really is no free will after all. What can I say to someone who thinks that way?Gabe: You can quote this verse to him, Bobby:Romans 11:33 (NKJV) Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!Bobby, God's word is clear. God chooses us and then He graciously allows us to choose Him of our own free will. What could be better than that? And, Bobby, God's wisdom, knowledge, and judgements - including the choices He has already made before the foundation of the world - are so perfect and so deep that they will bring to pass the fulfillment of the verse we started with:1 Corinthians 2:9 (TLV) But as it is written, “Things no eye has seen and no ear has heard, that have not entered the heart of mankind—these things God has prepared for those who love Him.”Bobby: Thanks, Gabe! He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. [4] Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. [5] You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. [Psalm 27:11-13] Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. [12] Do not let me fall into their hands. Sometimes God's goodness takes _________________ than we think. Welcome my friends to season 3 of the Determined to Dance podcast. My prayer is that you'll be encouraged to persevere daily in our chaotic world. Today's episode, Reflect on God's Goodness, discusses how to fight despair, disappointment, and apathy. Show Notes: Reflect on God's Goodness The last three years have been difficult, to say the least. A pandemic, masks, businesses failing, a faltering economy, and gas and food prices on the rise daily. It would be easy to find ourselves fighting despair over the world we live in. Disappointment with life in general. And a feeling of apathy, that it's all downhill from here. But God is still good. His goodness, kindness, mercy, and grace still abound if we only take time to look. To take our focus off of all the negative around us, and focus our eyes instead on the God of the universe. The Alpha and the Omega. My natural bent is toward being pessimistic and melancholy. I wrestle often with fear and dread, waiting for the other shoe to drop. But that's not how God asked us to live. He wants us to remember His Word: “I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 NKJV “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6 NKJV “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for His is good! For His mercy endures forever.” I Chronicles 16:34 NKJV “I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness. Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.” Psalm 145: 5-7 NLT His Word is good and true and full of wisdom. As we immerse ourselves to study and remember scripture, our natural bent can become positive and our focus true. God has taken a person like me, prone to depression and fear, and molded me into a person of encouragement. I still struggle but have many more good days than bad. All because of God and His unfailing love and goodness. What has helped me most? Reading His Word often. I use study guides, read different translations, and listen to sermons to help me understand what His Word is saying to me. Listening to uplifting music. I listen to Christian music, and also to positive secular music, including classical and movie soundtracks. Surrounding myself with uplifting people. One thing I cannot do is stay in the company of people who are always negative or gossiping or downing others. It pulls me down and hurts me emotionally. Communicating with God constantly. I need Him every moment of every day or I quickly sink into being overwhelmed. Writing down my feelings. Often, I journal the good, the bad, and the ugly. But I focus on what He's done that has made my life worth living. Jeff Walling says: “So what about you? Can you make your own list? Reflect on the good things God has put in your life. Don't overlook past experiences and precious memories. Consider faithful friends and loving family. And when your list is done, don't hide it in a drawer; keep it handy for emergencies. Post it on your bathroom mirror. Tack it on your dashboard. You never know when the crowd may attack or the day go sour. Then make a commitment. Take a solemn vow that you will dance with God even when you don't feel like it.” Just last week, I found myself experiencing that sinking feeling. Nothing was wrong. It was rainy and the writing wasn't coming easy and I just felt a little frustrated. So, I drew a deep breath and began to list all God was doing in my life. Before long, I was okay again. One last thought. If life is hard and I can't seem to find any good, I can focus on my future. A wonderful time that will be spent with God. Throughout eternity. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,

This week we're visited by Special Guest Speaker Mike Rosas. Key Verses: I Samuel 1:3–18 NKJV “This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!” But Hannah answered and said, “No, my Lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. “Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.” Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.” Hebrews 11:1–3 NKJV “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Psalms 34:8 NKJV “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” Ephesians 3:19–20 NKJV “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,” Sermon Topics: Faith, God's Love

By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. Romans 5:5 (NKJV) Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 1 Peter 4:7-10 (NKJV) But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 John 4:12 (NKJV) No one has seen God at any time. Proverbs‬ ‭25:11-12‬ ‭(MSG) The right word at the right time is like a custom-made piece of jewelry, And a wise friend’s timely reprimand is like a gold ring slipped on your finger.

Why I hate Islam?  Psalms 139: 19-22 (NKJV) "Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men. For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain. Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. How many pastors and preachers do you know that will teach on this passage, that we are called to hate what God hates and not just hate, but hate that evil with a "perfect hatred," or "utmost and complete hatred," as the original word in the Hebrew conveys.  Instead what you hear are flowery and deceptive phrases like "Christians are called to love, not hate." Yes we are called to pray for our enemies and love those who hate us, that is the individual. But we are called to hate the sin, hate the evil, hate the actions of those who are working against our God and His Word. Oh how we have turned Scripture upside down and twisted the Word of God to accommodate evil deeds and evil ideologies.  Therefore any evil act or ideology that blasphemes our God, or speaks wickedly against Him or denies Him or celebrates that which He hates, we should perfectly hate with the utmost hatred.  Must listen to teaching that you will not hear in many other places.  Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 (This show) Bible verses:  Psalms 139: 1-24, Psalms 97:10, Proverbs 18: 13-25, Romans 12:9 Links: http://cair.com/press-center/press-releases/14953-cair-mn-muslims-christians-and-people-of-faith-launch-path-to-fight-islamophobia.html http://mobile.wnd.com/2017/08/mosque-targeted-by-unknown-bomb-thrower-is-known-for-producing-jihadists/ http://www.wnd.com/2016/04/minnesota-mosque-producing-radical-somali-terrorists/
