Come Away and Rest When was the last time you truly rested? In Episode 156 of 2 Minute Disciple, we reflect on Mark 6:30–34, where the disciples return from ministry exhausted and full of stories. Before discussing their accomplishments or planning the next mission, Jesus offers a simple invitation: “Come away by yourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” It's a powerful reminder that Jesus is not only concerned with what we do for Him—He is deeply concerned with our souls. He knows when we've been giving, serving, working, and striving. He knows when we're running on empty. Yet the story takes an unexpected turn. The crowds follow. The quiet retreat is interrupted. And instead of responding with frustration, Jesus responds with compassion. Seeing the people as sheep without a shepherd, He begins to teach them. This passage holds two essential truths in tension: rest is necessary, and compassion is necessary. Jesus models both. He invites His followers to receive rest and teaches them how to respond graciously when life doesn't go according to plan. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why Jesus prioritizes rest for His disciples • The spiritual danger of constantly running on empty • How rest becomes an act of trust and obedience • What Jesus teaches us about interruptions and compassion • A simple practice for embracing genuine rest today Scripture Mark 6:30–34 (NLT) Reflection Question Am I regularly accepting Jesus' invitation to come away and rest—or have I been running on empty, giving what I no longer have to give? Today's Spiritual Practice Protect one genuine period of rest today. Not scrolling. Not multitasking. Not productive resting. Simply rest with Jesus. Before you begin, pray: “Jesus, I accept Your invitation. I come away with You now. Restore what the busyness has taken. Fill what has been emptied. I receive this rest as a gift from You—and I trust You with everything I'm setting down to take it.” If this episode encourages you, share it with one person today and help more people discover the peace, presence, and rest that Jesus offers.

Whether you have an hour or a full day, this conversation will gently invite you into deeper rest, renewal, and intimacy with Him.Read more on Alyson's website and get her free personal retreat guide: Meet AlysonFind Alyson on Instagram: @alyson.pryorRate and Review the podcast, please: Apple Music Rate and Review the podcast, please: Spotify

This week in worship, we were proud to partake in the commissioning and ordination of Bethany member Jen Pope! Reflecting on Genesis 12:1-4 and Jen's leap into the unknown through pursuing her call to ministry, Pastor Rebecca's sermon puts focus on a God who reveals themselves more and more fully as we follow after them.
True discipleship means both being sent out to serve and coming away with Jesus to be spiritually renewed. In a world full of distraction, Christ meets our deepest need - not just physical provision, but the nourishment of His Word and His presence.
Some may think Jesus was being avoidant when he started writing in the sand, rather than confronting the agitators there to bait him in John 8:2-11. But as Pastor Vince suggests in his sermon, maybe Jesus wasn't writing at all; maybe he was drawing. Demonstrating, perhaps, that we were created to create things ourselves, rather than destroy....or, ya know, maybe Vince just got the translation wrong. Listen to his sermon to decide for yourself
One of the worst thing Jesus did, as far as some people are concerned, was to let people off the hook. Where did he get off? Pastor Rebecca's sermon this week covers Matthew 11: 28 - 30, email debt forgiveness, and the audacity of Jesus' love.
Malcolm Christie is joined by Ed Dawes and Amelia Warren to discuss the latest Rams news.
This week, Pastor Vince preached on the story of Balaam and the Donkey from Numbers 22, and the power that lies in refusal.
Pastor Vince starts his sermon this week with an apology: he might've mis sold our theme for Lent by portraying retreat as something that's only gentle and relaxing. Preaching on Matthew 4, Vince's sermon reminds us that retreat can be hard work, but it brings with it the power of resistance in a world that wants to keep us preoccupied.
Episode 105 Today's guest is Alyson Pryor, my real life friend and real life wise woman. Alyson is a wife and mom to 5 kids. She is also a spiritual director, a marriage and family therapist, a professor, speaker and now author of her first book! And she is more amazing in real life than she is on paper. I absolutely loved talking to Alyson about her new book, Come Away and Rest, a Guide to Personal Spiritual Retreats. Alyson shares how she started seeking rest through spiritual retreats as a tired mom of young children, being cared for by 2 kind nuns at a house in a suburban neighborhood. It's a funny and tender story and led Alyson on a journey of discovery that she needed these quiet retreats not just to get a break from being a mom, but to know God in a deeper way. I learned a lot in this episode and found myself inspired to take a quiet spiritual retreat of my own as it is something I have never done. I know you'll love learning from Alyson too! If you're looking for a restful retreat combined with lots of beauty and some adventure, consider joining me, Greta, on my upcoming Women's Walking Retreat in the Cotswolds this September. Send a text“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” — Mark 6:31Have you felt that invitation in this season? The packing, the moving, the selling, the painting, the traveling, the constant next thing. Blessings can be beautiful… and exhausting. In this episode of Small Beginnings with Sara, I'm sharing what it looks like to pause in the middle of transition, to name what we've been carrying, and to remember that rest isn't a reward, it's a relationship with Jesus. He restores before He redirects. He invites us to come, not accomplish. If your soul feels heavy or hurried, this episode is your gentle reminder to slow down and listen.✨ Tune in to Small Beginnings with Sara and come away with Him.
Psalm 31:19–20 (NKJV)Oh, how great is Your goodness,Which You have laid up for those who fear You,Which You have prepared for those who trust in YouIn the presence of the sons of men!You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presenceFrom the plots of man;You shall keep them secretly in a pavilionFrom the strife of tongues. This is one of those Psalms where David is in the middle of deep distress, yet he still remembers the goodness of God and finds refuge in the secret place of His presence.I'll be honest — I don't always wake up with Mr. Bluebird on my shoulder. Some days it feels more like a raven has taken up residence on my head. But David shows us that God's goodness isn't tied to our mood or our circumstances.David came to God in every state. He didn't wait until he felt presentable, and there is so much for us to learn from that kind of faith.I'll close with the song, "Come Away."If you would like to support this podcast with a monthly or one-time gift, thank you!https://www.sherriyoungward.com/supportTo find out about upcoming gatherings and new projects, please join my email list at www.sherriyoungward.com

Tonight's Dark Devotion is drawn from Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare — the song “Come Away, Come Away, Death,” sung by Feste in Act II, Scene IV.Though Twelfth Night is often remembered as a comedy, this moment pauses the play's brightness and allows grief to speak plainly. Love imagines its own burial. Devotion asks to be laid quietly in the dark, unmarked and unremembered. This is a soft-spoken, live-ish reading offered as part of our 28 Nights of Dark Devotion — a series exploring love, longing, sacrifice, and return in their quieter, shadowed forms.

What if the thing blocking your next level isn't a lack of grind… but a lack of rest? In this message, Dr. Eric Thomas unpacks God's strategy for a factory reset — not to punish you, but to restore you deeply so He can use you greatly. Drawing from Jeremiah 29:11 and Jesus' own rhythm of withdrawing to rest, ET shows why heaven is calling you to stop worshiping hustle and start honoring rest as a spiritual strategy. You'll hear: - Why God told ET to separate accounts and start preparing at the end of the year for the next year - How a strategy coach put him on “idea punishment” and unlocked a new level of impact - Why Matthew 11:28–30 reveals rest as a pillar of success, not a reward after success - How Jesus often withdrew (Luke 5:16) and what that means for your schedule, your ministry, and your family Why this season at APOC is a factory reset: reset, rest, refresh, restore This isn't about laziness. The Stool struggles when it comes to the ‘must win' term….but it's believable that this team could have visions of last year as their fanbase does of things going bad once they get to a 5th win We made fun of the Wildcats earlier this season (and rightfully so), but they now sit at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in B1G play…and just shutout Purdue, 19-0, on Saturday, after winning at Penn State the weekend before. They also rushed 50 times for 232 yards in the win, and now face a Husker team who struggles to stop the run. In this Sunday's message, Pastor Andrew preaches from Song of Solomon 2:8–13 on the call of the Bridegroom to His bride: “Rise up, My love, My fair one, and come away.” The Song of Solomon may seem like just a love story between a man and a woman, but Paul reminds us: “first the natural, then the spiritual” (1 Corinthians 15:46). Spiritually, this passage paints a powerful picture of Christ and His church. Just as the Bridegroom calls His bride, Jesus is calling His people today into intimacy with Him. In this message, Pastor Andrew challenges us with three calls: 1️⃣ Come away from the world – We cannot cling to the world and still pursue the presence of Christ. 2️⃣ Come away from religion – God is after relationship, not ritual. 3️⃣ Come away to the secret place – Beyond separation, Christ invites us into deep intimacy with Him. The season is changing. Winter is past. Flowers are appearing. The voice of the Beloved is calling: “Rise up, My love, and come away.”

Dylan Geaney knocked over two in quick succession, but by the time Hickey returned, The Royals still held 5 point lead, at 16 points to 11. A pair of fine two pointers from Ruairi Kinsella & Conor Duke extended Meath's lead to 7 with just 15 to play. Not to long after Meath stalwart Bryan Menton goaled for the Royals to open up a 10 point lead, which proved to be unassailable. Meath will now have significant break before the All-Ireland quarter finals at Croke Park.Kerry on the other hand will have to settle for a home preliminary-quarter final next weekend.

Matthew 15:32-33Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?”(Spoiler alert) In the end, Jesus multiplied bread and fish, enough to feed thousands of men, women and children. A friend of mine pointed out how Jesus let the disciples pass out the food. He let them help - kind of like when you ask a toddler to help you cook.It all began when Jesus called His disciples to Himself and shared what was on His Heart. In this episode, we will look at the beauty and transformation that happens when we answer His call.I will end the episode with the song, “Come Away” and talk a bit about what inspired the lyrics. If you would like to support this podcast with a monthly or one-time donation, thank you!https://www.sherriyoungward.com/supportTo find out about upcoming gatherings and new projects, please join my email list atwww.sherriyoungward.com
