Alzheimer's is a global health problem, with nearly 7 million people living with the disease in the United States alone. Tremendous gains have been made in the understanding of the science and basic biology underlying Alzheimer's and other dementias. These advances are leading to great strides in strategies for prevention, detection, diagnostics and therapeutic interventions.  The Alzheimer's Association is a global leader in research, mobilizing the field to advance the vision of a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia. This presentation will include: Highlights in Early Detection and Diagnosis, Latest Advances in Clinical Trials, Treatments and Lifestyle Interventions, Risk Reduction, and Alzheimer's Association initiatives and how you can get involved. About the Speaker Claire Day has been on the staff of the Alzheimer's Association since 2001. She is the chief program officer at the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter and as such oversees all care and support operations and research initiatives. Day is a clinical social worker and in 2018 was appointed the Chapter Lead for the U.S. Study to Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Interventions to Reduce Risk in partnership with UC Davis. In this Fight Back Minicast episode, our special guest, Claire Day, discusses the symptoms of Alzheimer's and how it differs from dementia and answers questions about the newly FDA-approved treatment for Alzheimer's. Claire has been on the staff of the Alzheimer's Association since 2001. She is currently the Chief Program Officer at the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter. Claire oversees all clinical operations and service delivery throughout the Chapter's territory. She and her highly trained staff deliver community social services in the form of education, support, advocacy, and care management to people with Alzheimer's and their families, as well as to professional caregivers.

Art of Dynamic Competence: Creating Success in Changing Times

Today we are joined by Chip and Laynette Evans. After the 2016 election, Chip and Laynette, along with a handful of progressive activists, founded Indivisible Northern Nevada. From their website, Indivisible is a nonpartisan, volunteer organization focused on advancing humanitarian values through applying consistent, informed and ongoing pressure, primarily on our members of Congress.Under the umbrella of the Northern Nevada Chapter if Indivisible, Chip and Laynette developed a new project known as the Issue Voters Project, to encourage like-minded voters who are neither registered Democrats nor Republicans. What is amazing is that this non-party block of voters is gaining voters faster than either of the two major parties. Over the last 2 election cycles, the Issue Voters Project has had phenomenal results, and is now being promoted nationally by Indivisible. The process they use and the results that they are getting give us good insight into how we can build dynamic competence in our larger communities and even in our families.
