Gerhardt Konig wants a new trial after his Hawaii hiking trail conviction. His defense says jurors' post-verdict comments undercut the legal foundation of attempted manslaughter. The motion also raises a possible outside-influence issue during deliberations. Scott breaks down the intent problem, the juror statements, and what happens next. #GerhardtKonig, #CrimeTalk, #TrueCrime, #LegalAnalysis, #HawaiiCrime, #NewTrial

Dr. Gerhardt Konig was a respected Maui anesthesiologist living the island dream — until jealousy over his wife Arielle's suspected emotional affair turned him into a violent attacker. On March 24, 2025, what was supposed to be a romantic birthday hike for Arielle on Oahu's scenic but treacherous Pali Puka Trail became a nightmare. Prosecutors say Konig planned the assault: he allegedly tried to shove her off a cliff, jabbed at her with a syringe, and then savagely beat her head with a jagged lava rock. Arielle fought desperately for her life as blood soaked the trail… until two hikers heard her screams and interrupted the horror. What followed was a full-scale manhunt, a chilling FaceTime confession to his own son, graphic bodycam footage, and a high-profile Honolulu trial filled with explosive testimony. Konig claimed the attack stemmed from self defense. From trusted healer to convicted attacker — this is a story of betrayal, obsession, and survival that proves even paradise can hide pure evil. Tune in for every chilling detail, the full courtroom drama, and the questions everyone is still asking. Gerhardt Konig has been found guilty. But not of what prosecutors wanted. He was charged with attempted murder. The verdict came back as attempted manslaughter. A husband and wife on a hiking trail. One of them nearly went over a cliff. The question the jury couldn't fully answer, and the question Jack Fox is now putting to the words themselves, is: whose version of that day is true?Last episode, Jack examined Gerhardt's account. Now he turns to Arielle Konig's testimony from the witness stand. She describes being grabbed, pushed toward the edge, wrestled to the ground, straddled, and confronted with a syringe she says appeared from nowhere. She tells the court what she said to stop him. She tells them what he said back. And then she says he reached for a rock. What she says is detailed. What she says is consistent. But there are moments in her account, specific words, specific gaps, specific choices, where the story does something Jack doesn't expect. This is the trial the world watched. This is the testimony that shaped the verdict. And this is where the language is put under the lens.Want more from Never A Truer Word? The case of Gerhardt Konig and the incident on the Pali Puka Trail is a complex linguistic puzzle. While the legal proceedings surrounding the charges involving his wife, Arielle, are now a matter of record, I am looking closely at the testimony provided to see what the language itself reveals about the speaker. In this analysis, I examine the specific patterns that emerge when a story is under pressure. You will see how the transition between tenses and the focus on very specific physical details can signal a shift in an internal narrative. We are looking at the way certain events are emphasized while others are minimized, and what those choices tell us about his perspective. I am breaking down the jumps in the timeline and the use of formal language from Konig during examination to see if the words provided hold the key to understanding what actually happened on that cliffside. This episode was recorded before the trial verdict.Want more from Never A Truer Word? Gerhardt Konig has taken the stand in his attempted murder trial in Oahu, Hawaii. Prosecutors claim the anesthesiologist tried to kill his wife on a hike in March 2025 because it was cheaper to do that than divorce her. They also claim Gerhardt was furious that Arielle Konig was talking with a male colleague on WhatsApp. Arielle testified earlier in the trial. Dr. Megan Gerhardt joins Leadership NOW to unpack Gentelligence, her research-driven approach to leading an intergenerational workforce. We talk about why the narrative around generations has been so negative and how chronocentrism quietly convinces each age group that its way is the only right way to work. Megan explains how Gentelligence reframes age differences as a form of intelligence rather than a headache and why standards can stay high even as leaders expand the paths people take to meet them. We get into mental health expectations, feedback styles, and the small clashes that can either harden into resentment or become fuel for better practice. We close with practical ideas for building age-inclusive climates on purpose, from mutual mentoring and cross-generational projects to benefits and learning programs that work for early-career talent and older workers alike. JL Gerhardt is an author and partner at Hazefire Studios, where she and her husband, Justin Gerhardt, collaborate on the podcast Holy Ghost Stories. Gerhardt joins the table to talk about one of Hazefire's recent podcast projects: "The Happiest Saddest People." JL Gerhardt writes and narrates these episodes, which are a memoir of her own life, with reflections of faith, memory, and loss. It's also really excellent. Just the first episode alone is emotionally gutting and profound. And this memoir—which is also a theological reflection—takes place in the context of a beautifully produced podcast.

Well, we are bringing them back but due to the chaos and busyness of our lives it appears that only Melissa will be doing these ones. Hence the name "Just Melissa". Maybe sometimes we can get Daniel to jump in. If he's available. Be kind and enjoy.Send us a textSupport the show

While most of us engage with goal writing, have you ever stopped to think whether the goals you've proposed to your client are…pointless? If so, put down your bopy of “101 Great Trigonometry Objectives” and join us and special guest, Dr. Shanna Bahry, to explore resources for crafting goals with your clients that might actually lead them to a productive, happier adulthood. We review some useful tools from Dr. Bahry, some pointers for how to use (and NOT use) many popular assessments, and discuss where and when those trigonometry goals could meaningfully come into play. Yes, there's a time and place for every goal. This episode is available for 1.0 ETHICS CEU. The bagpipes will be back on the Capitol Square this weekend for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. With the official holiday mere days away, how are you celebrating? If you're Fitchburg alder Gabriella Gerhardt, you're adding to your world-record-setting four-leaf clover collection. Four-leaf clovers, technically a genetic mutation of the common three-leaf variety, are considered lucky due to their rarity. Gerhardt already holds the Guinness Book of World Record honors for “Most four-leaf clovers collected in one hour” and “Most four-leaf clovers collected in eight hours.” She's got a whole room in her house devoted to them. We're revisiting our conversation with her today to get her secrets on finding these treasures. This show originally aired March 14, 2023. Wanna talk to us about an episode? Maybe it's the lousy Smarch weather, but we're in a bit of a mood to start of this month. Not because our special guests aren't awesome. We had so much fun learning about qualitative analyses in exploring RBT burnout with Dr. Nicole Gravina and how to be more ethically responsible in creating meaningful goals for autistic adolescents and adults with Dr. Shanna Bahry. And not because we're not reviewing tough issues like turnover in human services, deconstructing ableist practices in the medical model, and respectfully disagreeing with the abolitionist neurodiversity critique. Now that I'm writing about all the awesome episodes coming out this month, I can't even remember why we sound so crabby. Oh, right…the state of the United States political system. And rude emails. Dr. Mary Barbera covers the role of adaptive skills in creating meaningful futures for individuals with autism. In this conversation with Dr. Peter Gerhardt and Dr. Shanna Bahry, we talk about the importance of focusing on these skills from an early age, especially in the preschool years. We will go over how to set meaningful goals, teach life skills for independence, and balance academic progress with essential self-care tasks. Dr. Gerhardt shares insights on how adaptive skills can pave the way for greater autonomy, while Dr. Bahry explains the pivotal age of 10 as a time to assess developmental paths.
Drs. Peter Gerhardt and Shanna Bahry join me to talk about a range of topics centering around supporting adults with ASD and related disabilities. They are the authors of the new book, Make it Meaningful: Creating Programs that Matter into Adulthood for Learners with Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders. In this conversation, we talk about how ABA services are skewed towards younger populations, how programming for younger learners might look different if practitioners knew more about the unique needs of adult service recipients, risk aversion and other barriers to promoting independence, their 'wishlist' of skills that they'd like to see all adults with disabilities learn, having difficult conversations with parents, and lots more. Of course we discuss their book, the resources their book provides, and how these resources relate to other functional skills curricula that are out there... such as Essential for Living. You're also going to want to stay tuned for the entire conversation, because we close with some fantastic advice for just about everyone in this field.
