This weekend we are studying a hymn by Lutheran Pastor, Paul Gerhardt. Gerhardt lived about 100 years after Luther and in a very difficult time, politically and religiously. The Thirty Years War rages. Religious turmoil created havoc. He was familiar with persecution and tragedy. Three children died in infancy as well as a son and his wife in later years. He was forced to conform to false teaching or leave his call as pastor. His church and home were destroyed by war. But in all of this, Gerhardt remained confident of the Lord's power and Christ's victory over sin, death and every enemy he might face. This hymn was based on the Apostle Paul's words to the Romans: "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:31-39) The hymn highlights the truth that God's love for us is sure because it is seen in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. God is also more powerful than anything we will face in this life. And if God loves us so much that He gave His Son into death for us, what won't He do for us, that is for our ultimate good? When you face challenges and loss in this life, look to Jesus and His cross. See the love of Jesus which is greater than any enemy we might face. Be assured of God's love and His power over death, sin, and Satan as well! Join us this weekend as gather to express our joy for that Love of God which surpasses all our understanding! May the LORD bless your joyful proclamation of God's love for you in Jesus this weekend!
While most of us engage with goal writing, have you ever stopped to think whether the goals you've proposed to your client are…pointless? If so, put down your bopy of “101 Great Trigonometry Objectives” and join us and special guest, Dr. Shanna Bahry, to explore resources for crafting goals with your clients that might actually lead them to a productive, happier adulthood. We review some useful tools from Dr. Bahry, some pointers for how to use (and NOT use) many popular assessments, and discuss where and when those trigonometry goals could meaningfully come into play. Yes, there's a time and place for every goal. This episode is available for 1.0 ETHICS CEU. Maybe it's the lousy Smarch weather, but we're in a bit of a mood to start of this month. Not because our special guests aren't awesome. We had so much fun learning about qualitative analyses in exploring RBT burnout with Dr. Nicole Gravina and how to be more ethically responsible in creating meaningful goals for autistic adolescents and adults with Dr. Shanna Bahry. And not because we're not reviewing tough issues like turnover in human services, deconstructing ableist practices in the medical model, and respectfully disagreeing with the abolitionist neurodiversity critique. Now that I'm writing about all the awesome episodes coming out this month, I can't even remember why we sound so crabby. Oh, right…the state of the United States political system. And rude emails. Drs. Peter Gerhardt and Shanna Bahry join me to talk about a range of topics centering around supporting adults with ASD and related disabilities. They are the authors of the new book, Make it Meaningful: Creating Programs that Matter into Adulthood for Learners with Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders. In this conversation, we talk about how ABA services are skewed towards younger populations, how programming for younger learners might look different if practitioners knew more about the unique needs of adult service recipients, risk aversion and other barriers to promoting independence, their 'wishlist' of skills that they'd like to see all adults with disabilities learn, having difficult conversations with parents, and lots more. Of course we discuss their book, the resources their book provides, and how these resources relate to other functional skills curricula that are out there... such as Essential for Living. You're also going to want to stay tuned for the entire conversation, because we close with some fantastic advice for just about everyone in this field. Philip talks about what it's like keeping the over 650 bus routes moving smoothly at one of the world's largest public transport networks. And Philip doesn't just have to worry about the iconic double-decker red buses, he needs to make sure all bus routes--including the express routes around London--connect with all the other modes from The Tube and light rail to the Elizabeth Line and ferries. Paul and Philip talk about the details of bus performance and how TfL works with its private operator partners to deliver world-class bus service. Philip also reflects on his career journey and the passion behind TFL's iconic red buses (like many of us he fell into his transit career).Coming up next week on the show, we have a special episode we've done in conjunction with Uber Transit. Who is Elijah? What even is a prophet? We discuss it all through the lens of a very popular podcast, Holy Ghost Stories. He is the creator of the podcast Holy Ghost Stories—an episodic, immersive telling of the stories of the Old Testament with a focus on character and craft. He also serves as the founder and president of Hazefire Studios, a nonprofit devoted to expanding the intersection of story and worship. With a degree in philosophy and Biblical studies, Justin worked for 20 years as a minister and preacher before feeling called to explore new ways to share Scripture with an increasingly irreligious world. To cut costs as he began Holy Ghost Stories in 2021, Justin and his family embarked on a 2-year-long season of global nomadism that took them to England, Croatia, Ireland, Greece, Egypt, and South Africa. Some scholars call our politically fraught and hyper-partisan times “the age of impeachment.” They claim the increased use of impeachment and removal proceedings signals an erosion in institutional norms, perhaps that we've even “overwhelmed” the use of impeachment and diluted impeachment of any significance. What does U.S. impeachment history tell us? The Constitution provides that treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors are impeachable offenses. A common thread that runs throughout presidential impeachment proceedings is an effort by legal counsel to try and define the scope of impeachable misconduct. On this episode of Discovery, we discuss the history of impeachment with Professor Michael Gerhardt from the Carolina Law faculty, whose teaching and research focuses on constitutional conflicts between presidents and Congress. He has authored nine books, testified more than 20 times before Congress, and has served as an expert commentator for CNN, Fox and MSNBC. Gerhardt joined the Carolina Law faculty in 2005 and serves as the Burton Craige Distinguished Professor of Jurisprudence. Gerhardt's new book, The Law of Presidential Impeachment, provides a comprehensive and nonpartisan explanation of impeachment's role in presidential accountability.

It Gets Late Early: Career Tips for Tech Employees in Midlife and Beyond
In a recent study by Fortune, one in five Gen Z's reported not having spoken to anyone over 50 in the workplace in the last year, while 40% of people over 55 said they hadn't talked to a Gen Z. How did we get here? How do we bridge this generational divide? Are the five generations at work a challenge to overcome, or are they an overlooked source of strength? Today I host the brilliant Professor Megan Gerhardt, founder and author of Gentelligence. Megan challenges the lazy stereotypes that pit generations against each other. She advocates for understanding our differences as an opportunity for mutual growth and innovation. One concept that really resonated was Megan's vision for "mutual mentoring" – an approach that replaces traditional top-down mentorship with a reciprocal exchange of knowledge and perspectives. So, whether you're a tech titan grappling with a multi-generational workforce or simply seeking to bridge the gap with colleagues from different age groups, this conversation is for you. Tune in to learn how you can foster smarter intergenerational conversations to transform your workplace into an environment where every generation feels valued and empowered.“I believe generations matter, but they certainly are not everything. They are the beginning of the conversation to me, not the end of the conversation.” - Megan GerhardtIn This Episode:-An introduction to the Gentelligence concept-The importance of age in the DE&I conversations-Intergenerational warfare and generational labels-Practical tools for smarter intergenerational conversations-How to leverage generational norms-The impact of remote work on workplace engagement and identity-How to build intergenerational friendships-Why mutual mentorship is beneficial And much more.Resources: -Purchase Professor Megan's book “Gentelligence”: https://a.co/d/ckOhax9 -Join Gentelligence Academy: https://gentelligenceacademy.com/ Connect with Professor Megan Gerhardt:-Website: https://profgerhardt.com/-LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/megangerhardtConnect with Maureen Clough:-Instagram: @itgetslateearly - https://www.instagram.com/itgetslateearly/-YouTube: @itgetslateearly - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGrHwk-y7ERaq7bCSjZYf1A?sub_confirmation=1-Website: itgetslateearly.com - https://www.itgetslateearly.com/-LinkedIn: @maureenwclough -

President Joe Biden is being threatened with impeachment by the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives. His predecessor, Donald Trump, was twice impeached by a Democratic-led House. Three presidents earlier, Bill Clinton was impeached. No president has ever been removed from office as the result of an impeachment, but it continues to be a high-profile way to go after the president of the United States. But what exactly is impeachment? Why is it included in the U.S. Constitution? How does the process work? Constitutional scholar Michael Gerhardt offers a comprehensive, nonpartisan, and up-to-date explanation of the Constitution's various mechanisms for holding presidents accountable for misdeeds real and imagined. He is the author of the new book The Law of Presidential Impeachment, which draws on a lifetime of scholarly research, as well as Gerhardt's unique experience as a witness and consultant in the impeachment trials of Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. Join us as Gerhardt offers new perspectives on impeachment, arguing that it cannot be properly understood in a vacuum, but must instead be viewed in the context of its coordination with such other mechanisms as criminal prosecutions, censure, elections, congressional oversight, and the Fourteenth and Twenty-Fifth Amendments. The insightful conversation kicks off with an overview of how companies can leverage communities and influencer partnerships to diversify their marketing strategies beyond LinkedIn and Google paid budgets. This episode promises to arm listeners with unconventional yet practical tips to take their digital strategies to new heights. Through an enlightening dialogue, Walker and Gerhardt explore the nuances of creating and nurturing owned company communities. They discuss the success metrics that truly matter and the distinctions between communities as stand-alone entities versus those adjunct to SaaS companies. The second part of the episode pivots to unpack the emerging roles of influencers, or key opinion leaders, in the B2B sector. The duo sheds light on the symbiotic nature of these partnerships and the importance of authenticity and strategic alignment. Insights into LinkedIn's algorithm changes and content distribution strategies pepper the conversation, providing a grounded perspective for B2B marketers aiming to make their mark in an increasingly crowded digital space. The most recent United Nations Climate Conference resulted in an agreement between nearly 200 nations about the next steps in dealing with the climate crisis. It included for the first time ever language around transitioning away from fossil fuels. Heralded in some quarters as "the end of the era of fossil fuels," critics say the deal is filled with loopholes that will undermine efforts to combat the climate crisis. The final text fails to explicitly call for a phaseout of fossil fuels, language sought by over 100 countries. In our latest episode, Scott talks with journalist and author Tina Gerhardt (@TinaGerhardtEJ) about COP28, the negotiations, the agreement, industry influences, peoples' movements influences and what it all means.
