Parents across the MidWest have breathed a long awaited sigh of relief as a new respite centre for the region officially opened this week. Children and Disabilities Minister Norma Foley cut the ribbon at Hazeldine in Barefield, which will employ 24 people and provide 1,400 nights of respite care per year. The state of-the-art facility contains two sensory gardens, a sensory room, playroom, four bedrooms, en suite accessible bathrooms, a play area and a self-contained living apartment. A Clare mother of a child with multiple intellectual disabilities says she can finally get a nights sleep following the opening a new respite centre. Children and Disabilties Minister Norma Foley travelled to Clare today to officially open Enable Ireland's Hazeldine facility in Barefield The moment Minister Foley officially cut the ribbon at Hazeldine, the centre located on the outskirts of Ennis, will provide 1,400 nights of respite care to families across Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary every year. The facility itself a state of the art former B&B, which contains two sensory gardens, a sensory room, a self contained living apartment, three bedrooms and multiple accessible ensuite bathrooms. For the families at the heart of Enable Ireland's support services in Clare, today is a momentous occasion. Leanne Tracey's son Max has been using Hazeldine for the last three months. An Ennis mother meanwhile says the new centre will finally enable her to get at least one night's sleep a week. Janet Sheehy is a single parent caring for her eighteen year old son Conor who has autism and ADHD. Janet says it's a vital relief for her family. Between January and June, just 11% of children in Clare that required an initial assessment of needs were assessed in the HSE's targeted timeframe of six months. Minister Norma Foley says there's a lot more work to be done in Clare and it will be.

2 Chronicles 29 says that Hezekiah was 25 when he began to rule and reigned for 29 years. Hezekiah walks in the ways of David (his spiritual father). Hezekiah was Judah's greatest ever king - read the testimony in 2 Kings 18 verse 5. This king cleanses the temple from the filth of his father, Ahaz. The Levites had to assist the priests with the task. Note the power of the words of verse 17 - the dedicated work began on the first day of his first month. They prepare for the Passover massive sacrifices and the offerings began as the music of praise and worship began. Seventy bulls were offered representing the 70 nations (Deuteronomy 32:8). Despite the suddenness of what the king did the people rejoiced and supported the Feast.Daniel 9 tells of the prophet's sadness when he realises that the exiles would be in Babylon for 70 years as spoken by Jeremiah in chapter 25. From verses 3-19 Daniel in his prayer confesses his sin and that of the nation expressing that they deserve what had befallen them. From the time he commences praying the angel Gabriel is sent to the beloved prophet to give him understanding of what is termed "the 70 weeks prophecy". That prophecy concerns the work of the Lord Jesus Christ - Messiah the Prince to bring in a "righteousness of the ages". The work is completed between AD30 with the crucifixion and the 70 weeks ending in AD32 with the stoning of Stephen. Each of the segments mentioned can be precisely dated from the archaeological records which exist. Because of the great sin of the nation in crucifying the Lord of glory and refusing the short period provided for repentance Rome would come and destroy Jerusalem. The year was AD33 when we read in Acts 9 of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus. Saul is seeking to destroy the believers in Christ who dwelt in Damascus. Saul presses on as the fierce Syrian sun burns brightly in the sky. Saul is blinded by a light stronger than the sun and he is stirred by a voice that he may well have known, "Saul, Saul why are you persecuting me?" The Syriac Pashito, whose phrase, "It is hard for you to kick against the goads" is added to the English KJV. Saul's response is, "Who are you Lord?" With his eyes blinded and his mind in total turmoil and his entire world view turned upside down (as would be said of him in Acts 17:6) he is led by the hand into the city to await instructions. For three days Saul neither ate nor drank. Ananias is told to go to Saul to lay hands on him to recover Saul's sight. Ananias is further told of Saul's mission which Almighty God has marked out for him. Saul is a chosen vessel to take Christ's message before kings. Ananias goes to the street which ironically named "Straight". Ramsay says in his book that it was the most crooked street in all Damascus. Ananias courageously lays his hands on Saul and restores his sight and imparts to Saul the Holy Spirit. Saul preaches Jesus in the Damascene synagogues to the astonishment of all. From there Saul goes to Jerusalem and seeks association with the believers, who shun him believing that Saul is using a ruse to get among them. Respite from persecution is granted to the ecclesias. Peter heals Aeneas at Lydda slightly inland from Joppa; then at Joppa he is shown the clothes that Dorcas had made for the widows and orphans before her decease. Peter raises her to life to continue her work and from there Peter he goes to the house of Simon the tanner. We might pose a question: Did Peter go to the house of a tanner to prepare himself to accept that ceremonial uncleanness was no longer relevant as we will see in our reading tomorrow from Acts 10?Thanks for joining us - we pray you found these comments helpful in your appreciation of God's words, join again tomorrow

In the summer of 2018, I began to plan our annual "getaway" trip for September. From my teen years through my mid-50s, I was a retail animal. When you're leading a retail company, you don't think about taking time off between October and January. September always was the most convenient time to step away. So here I am, mid-summer, planning for September. Big Cedar Lodge, up near Branson, Missouri, had become a bit of a favored place. We enjoyed the Ozarks and had friends in the Springfield area, so it was a go-to place once a year. But...in 2018, I didn't really want to make the 8-hour one-way drive. That's why I began to search for a place closer to home. A place within a 6-hour drive of Dallas/Ft. Worth. I spent a few days searching online, but there was no clear, obvious winner - until I found a place called Hot Springs Village. Having never heard of HSV, I dug a bit deeper, fearing it was simply an offshoot of Hot Springs. I was not interested in visiting a town. Any town. I wanted to get OUT of town. I searched Airbnb, found a few suitable places, and settled on a bedroom suite, booked it, and thought we were all set. Now, we endure life until we can get away. Then, on Labor Day Monday, 2018, our world came crashing down. It was the worst time of our lives - it remains the worst, and I don't think anything will ever top it. It was a family crisis that buckled our knees. But it was beyond our control. Truth was, we couldn't even influence the outcome. So we concentrated on what we could do. The people we could support. The positive influence we could have. Our trip was coming up fast, and here we were going through the worst of times. I was tempted to cancel the trip, but Rhonda and I decided to go to this place we'd never been before - Hot Springs Village instead. We figured if it was even close to the depictions online, we could walk, talk, and pray A LOT. So we drove here, 5 hours door-to-door. That was awesome! And we were immediately both puzzled and smitten with Hot Springs Village. Miles of walking. Hours of talking. Even more hours of praying. That was the FALL of 2018. Seven years ago. That's our context. It was our introduction to Hot Springs Village. Not a vacation. Not a search for a retirement destination. Not a fun-filled getaway. Instead, it was our journey toward respite. Respite to figure things out. A place to get in nature, together, and be alone with God. So you can hopefully see why FALL is such a special time of year for us inside Hot Springs Village. It's a time of year that doesn't depress us, but it does remind us to enjoy life, knowing winter is coming. And when winter comes, we'll all be looking forward to SPRING. I hope this show, Hot Springs Village Inside Out, provides a more positive and compelling reason for you to visit or consider Hot Springs Village as your home one day. • Join Our Free Email Newsletter • Subscribe to Our YouTube Channel (click that bell icon, too) • Join Our Facebook Group • Support Our Sponsors (Click on the images below to visit their websites.) __________________________________________ __________________________________________ __________________________________________

Thanks for tuning back in to By Their Side, dear listeners! For this episode, I interview Gaile Osborne, the executive director of the Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina. Listen in as Gaile shares her personal experience as a foster and adoptive parent, having opened her home to over 28 children living in foster care. Gaile highlights the critical role of having a "village" of support for foster parents, whether through paid help like nannies and nurses, or a network of family and friends. She also discusses the challenges of secondary trauma and burnout that can come with advocating for foster children and families, explaining how she had to set boundaries to take care of her own mental health, even taking a two-month break at one point. Gaile also touches on the trauma that foster parents themselves experience and the importance of respite care in helping them recharge. As an advocate, Gaile shares her perspectives on the need for policy changes, emphasizing the delicate balance foster parents must strike between advocating for the child's best interests and supporting family reunification. She highlights the invaluable role that CASA volunteers can play in supporting foster families and stresses the importance of volunteers who take the time to truly understand the family dynamic. Throughout our insightful conversation, Gaile's passion for supporting foster families and advocating for systemic change is obvious, and her personal experiences and professional insights offer a powerful perspective on the foster care system! Enjoy my conversation with Gaile Osborne! Highlights: [1:38] - Fostering requires a strong support network, blending trusted caregivers, paid help, and community support. [4:16] - Respite has been the foundation that kept Gaile's family functioning through difficult times. [6:56] - Gaile reflects on having embraced leadership but learning to set boundaries after secondary trauma overwhelmed her. [10:29] - Foster parents endure both secondary trauma and firsthand traumatic experiences. [11:24] - Gaile realized how neglecting her own family while overworking forced her to step back and heal. [13:55] - During trauma triggers, Gaile slows life down, returning to basics. [16:35] - By listening more and tracking patterns, Gaile encourages honesty and prevents predictable behaviors. [19:44] - Gaile valued GALs who quietly observed, respected the family, and offered genuine support. [21:57] - A dedicated GAL's consistent presence and advocacy significantly influenced Gaile's family's adoption outcome. [23:53] - Gaile asserts that without enough GAL volunteers, children risk lacking representation in court proceedings. [25:12] - Gaile stresses how churches and communities can ease foster burdens via small, practical acts of kindness. [28:21] - Hear how even small gestures of compassion eased Gaile's deep sense of isolation. [29:02] - Gaile often hears comments mistaking her for a grandmother, leaving her searching for witty comebacks. [31:12] - Gaile wrestles with balancing foster parents' rights while supporting reunification and maintaining vital family bonds. [33:09] - Fostering requires deep emotional investment, yet ombudsman advocacy and permanency remain critical needs. [35:39] - Getting kids into permanent homes faster takes new laws because long waits really hurt families. [37:19] - Gaile credits her eldest daughter's resilience and spirit for shaping her child welfare advocacy. After much deliberation, the party departed from Tai'ja, hitching a ride on "The Black Gull," a smuggler's vessel. Of course, not without a cost. Trading over their last Geysershell Pearl, they secured passage to the Artisan village of Depford and then made their way to Wolf's Lodge under the cover of night. With the meager time they had left, Finavir would need to convince Origin Charles to hand over the "triangle" Key and hopefully, not further alter the timeline. Meanwhile, Replicant Charles had plans of his own and approached Seraphius, attempting to find a way to save his life. The timeline seems to have shifted once again, the Far Traveler's warning only a whisper on the breeze.Tai'ja is far behind our band of Seekers now. With their goal to put distance between themselves and the Red Kingdom's influence and return to Lamb's Respite, they have made the decision to travel through the Forest of the Forgotten. And although recent events and dangerous revelations loom over some more heavily than others, they have carried onward.Support Us:Please consider contributing to the production of the podcast.Patreon: https://patreon.com/missingrollplayerfoundAbout:The Gate Chronicles (aka TGC) is an actual play RPG run in the Pathfinder RPG system. Jonathan Cottor and his family were living in England when his son Ryan was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy when he was 9 months old in 2001. Ryan was not expected to live past his 2nd birthday but lived 15 years longer than expected, passing away in December of 2018. While in England , Jonathan and his wife Holly saw a Respite Home that was common in England but was unheard of in the United States. Jonathan moved his family to his original roots in Phoenix Arizona in 2003, where he and Holly created the Ryan house, which was similar to the home that they saw and that Ryan lived in on occasion in London. After Ryan's passing, Jonathan has dedicated his life to coming up with programs that would lead to the building of these Palliative Care Respite homes across the United States and hopes to have 50 programs completed and 50 houses built, one in each state within 5 years.

Livestreams with Gwen are back! This week's livestream topic was to be about the fact that we are living in two worlds - longing to live in the past while dealing with our messy lives in the present. I talk about my struggles of missing Andy while trying to be the happy mother-of-the-groom at Valeriano's recent wedding. This conversation quickly morphed into another topic. Respite. First, is it OK to take a break from your grief? And second - where do I find respite when I need a break from my grief? My answers - First - YES! And Second - walks outside in the sunshine, riding in our boat, listening to birds while on my deck, listening to music, reading a good book, and playing board games with family or friends. The most important point is this. It is OK (and actually GOOD) to take a break from your grief. Many grieving parents feel like they need to feel their grief all the time. Every book they read is about grief. Every podcast they listen to is about grief. Days are filled with therapy and support groups. While all of these things are great, breaks are needed. Our bodies and minds cannot handle the constant pain of grief. I remember in those early days feeling like I needed to feel the pain constantly. If I started to laugh or even smile, I would remind myself that Andy was dead, and the smile would disappear. As the seven-year anniversary approaches next week, I feel the heaviness begin to worsen again, but I have learned that the best way to get through these difficult days is to take some time away from the pain as well. I will have intentional times with my family to talk about and remember Andy. There is an upcoming 5K race where 25 of my co-workers will be wearing Be Still bracelets as they run to support our local FitKids program. But there will also be time for me to have respite. I will spend time reading a book and listening to birds outside on my deck. I will play golf and go boating. Hopefully, I will be able to convince my family to play a board game with me. Finding this balance is what gives me the strength to continue on each day.

A FACT CHECK at the White House website proclaims “President Trump will always a protect Social Security and Medicare.” It goes on to quote Elon Musk saying “The waste and fraud in entitlement spending — which is most of the federal spending is entitlements — so, that's, like, the big one to eliminate. That's the, sort of half-trillion, maybe $6-700 billion a year.” After a list of “facts” about fraud, improper payments to deceased individuals and improper payments to both SSA and Medicare and Medicaid services, the page goes on to ask “What kind of a person doesn't support eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending that ultimately costs taxpayers more?”Link to the Whitehouse web site:https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/03/fact-check-president-trump-will-always-protect-social-security-medicare/Am I missing something? First, Social Security and Medicare are not entitlements, they are services for which older Americans have paid for by deductions from THEIR salaries. And , second, where is, in this so-called Fact Sheet, plans for how President Trump is going to preserve Social Security and Medicare except for a statement that reads “The Trump Administration will not cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits. President Trump himself has said it (over and over and over again).”Conversely, President's Trump's budget seeks to reduce or eliminate the Older Americans Act, to dissolve the Administration for Community Living, and cut funding to critical services that help older adults to live independently. In order to be able to understand more completely what's going on, we called on Nathan Boucher, to explain the effect of Trump's real budget proposals on senior care. Nathan is Associate Research Professor in the Sanford School of Public Policy and Duke University faculty at Sanford School of Public Policy, the Medical School, and the Nursing School. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Duke Center for the Study of Aging & Human Development as well as Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy Core Faculty. Nathan and I talked about the Older Americans Act and the Administration for Community Living which provide services like Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Care, Falls and Elder Abuse Prevention and Respite care as well as services for younger people with disabilities. We discussed that despite reassurances that Medicare and Medicaid will not be touched, plans are in the works for reducing Medicaid and adding a work requirement and more difficult paperwork which would affect at least 7.6 million people.

The year was AD33 when we read in Acts 9 of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus. Saul is seeking to destroy the believers in Christ who dwelt in Damascus. Saul presses on as the fierce Syrian sun burns brightly in the sky. Saul is blinded by a light stronger than the sun and he is stirred by a voice that he may well have known, “Saul, Saul why are you persecuting me?” The Syriac Pashito, whose phrase, “It is hard for you to kick against the goads” is added to the English KJV. Saul's response is, “Who are you Lord?” With his eyes blinded and his mind in total turmoil and his entire world view turned upside down (as would be said of him in Acts 17:6) he is led by the hand into the city to await instructions. For three days Saul neither ate nor drank. Ananias is told to go to Saul to lay hands on him to recover Saul's sight. Ananias is further told of Saul's mission which Almighty God has marked out for him. Saul is a chosen vessel to take Christ's message before kings. Ananias goes to the street which ironically named “Straight”. We might pose a question: Did Peter go to the house of a tanner to prepare himself to accept that ceremonial uncleanness was no longer relevant as we will see in our reading tomorrow from Acts 10?

Is the familiar framework of Shabbat and the Tabernacle more deeply connected than we ever realized? Join us as we explore the purposeful juxtaposition of the golden calf incident with the sacred practices described in Parsha's Ki Tisa. Through this exploration, we uncover the deliberate design within the Torah where nothing is coincidental, linking the sacredness of Shabbat with the activities of the tabernacle. Discover how the creation process does not just end with Shabbat, but rather finds its true essence and meaning within it, as we discuss the spiritual laws derived from this holy day. From the unique perspective of a convert to Judaism, we reflect on the extraordinary sanctity and transformative nature of Shabbat. Imagine a day where the hustle of daily life fades into the background, allowing a divine connection to blossom through rest and relationships. We delve into the covenant between God and the Jewish people, highlighting the spiritual rejuvenation that a weekly day of rest provides against the backdrop of a world that often idolizes productivity. This discussion also challenges traditional notions of holiness, encouraging us to find sanctity within the material world and recognize the individual spiritual journeys that define our faith. Finally, we focus on gratitude and the enjoyment of life's simple pleasures as a path to deepen our spiritual connection. From the taste of a morning coffee to the joy of shared moments with loved ones, these are not just fleeting pleasures but gifts meant to enrich our spiritual lives. The importance of acknowledging those who contribute to our well-being and using life's enjoyments to strengthen relationships is at the heart of this conversation. By cultivating a mindset of gratitude and appreciation, we can transform both weekdays and the Sabbath into meaningful opportunities for growth and divine connection, leading a life of fulfillment in harmony with the Almighty._____________This episode (Ep 7.21) of the Parsha Review Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe on Parshas Ki Sisa is dedicated in honor of our President & in honor of our Holy Soldiers in the Battlefield and our Torah Scholars in the Study Halls who are fighting for the safety of our nation!Download & Print the Parsha Review Notes:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ncaRyoH5iJmGGoMZs9y82Hz2ofViVouv?usp=sharingRecorded at TORCH Meyerland in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on March 11, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on March 12, 2025_____________DONATE to TORCH: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. Taryn Jarboe was trying to console her 8 month old daughter June in June of 2021 as she had not been feeling well, and while examining her body, found a lump that was diagnosed as Neuroblastoma. June was supposed to go through an 18 month treatment program but while she was 10 months into her protocol, June developed a stomach bug and just before the radiation part of her treatment was supposed to begin, her doctors gave June scans which found that her Neuroblastoma had relapsed. Very unfortunately, there was only a 5 percent chance that June would survive this relapse and she passed away on March 13th of 2022.
