Original Show notes to follow in full context to the original Airing date of August 1st 2018. Main Show Notes: Happy Birthday!: The Spoken Token is 2 years old this episode! Since we have a big shindig with our friends at GamePoint Cafe for GenCant 2018 in just a few days, all of our big giveaways are going to be there! And so are we! Thank you so much for coming along with us and we look forward to year three and beyond!! Asmodee sold itself! What does this portend for board games worldwide? We dive a little bit into a topic that we will revisit!! Who is killing it? A list of companies who we each believe has been doing an amazing job in the last 12 months and one company who has done a horrible job in the last 12 months. Fighting the Cult…of the New: What older games should you revisit that are at least 5 years old? So many titles deserve your time that are not considered “Classics” yet, Alex and Larry take a look. Does the Spiel des Jahres matter outside of Germany? With their requirements to being legitimately published in the German market, is it really the best game of the year worldwide, or are we just recognizing it because that is what we have been doing? We discuss ideas and offer some thoughts on a solution or alternative to enhance this hallowed event in Board Gaming. Zelda expands her rock collection. That's all that happens the whole episode. Really.
A beach episode, that takes place in a forest. A forest episode? A woods episode? A traipse through a copse. Kanjin gets a legendary success. Zelda deepens her new friendships.
The Skyborn set a trap for the shadowfiend, which they learn is a Greater Fellgat. Zelda makes new friends.
The gang finishes a combat. The Skyborn earn the trust of a nearby Verthod tribe. Kanjin makes a new piece of armor.
The Skyborn venture to Banyan next, to search for a nefarious creature. Magenta makes a wager. Our heroes encounter a threat, but not one they were expecting.
The investigation finally comes to an end, and Veile will never be the same.
The Skyborn corner who they believe is their star witness, and can finally conclude the investigation into the death of Pelindros.
The Skyborn grapple with a haberdasher, or two. Xanthic and Yasmin lead a clandestine business meeting. Magenta fails an interview, or two.
Xanthic and Zelda begin their investigation on the House Cavail premises, with mixed success. Magenta and Kanjin put on a show. The Skyborn start a fight unwittingly.
The Skyborn continue to investigate the assassination of Pelindros. They finally make it to Veile, and immediately split up. Thus begins the first heist!
The Skyborn are given a new task, in a dramatic fashion in line with their next destination. Zelda and Kanjin clash. Yasmin reveals a little of her dark side.
The Skyborn take on a shovel tusk, to add their mark to the Endless Poem of the Pyroi people.
The Skyborn make their way to their first task, on the inhospitable shard named Pyre. Zelda and Yasmin leave home for the first time. Xanthic flexes his deep wallet. We are only slightly derailed by a pushy cat.
The Skyborn meet against a band of off balance pirates. Cameron was extremely patient with us learning how to roll 7 dice at a time. The Skyborn receive their quest. Sorry for being late this week!
Some characters leave their homes and land on the homes of others. Xanthic and Yasmin investigate together. Magenta makes a bad first impression. Corpse's Irish accent improves, then gets worse.
Hello and welcome back! We endure the arduous process of character creation for Overlight, our new campaign, and therefore so must you! It's good to be back.
For this episode we bring along our friend Patrick to talk about art in role-playing games and discuss some of our favourite artists. Patrick gives us a run down of Overlight by Renegade Games and we debate the merits of Kickstarter, likely not for the last time. For the film segment Jamie brings the 2014 B-movie Vampire Nation, and then Henry closes out the episode with the music segment, discussing the doom metal trio Conan and their fantasy leanings. Our Ten Commandments series returns with a discussion of the Sixth Commandment: "You shall not murder." First, though, Jenny's got a lot of Overlight to talk about! We got to sit down and play it, and it was quite fun. Grant's also got an Eberron game in the works, and Peter's trying NaNoWriMo this month as well. We also address a question from Patreon supporter "gfactor", who asks "What tabletop RPGs would you recommend for playing with younger kids (elementary age) and how would you transition them to more complex games as they got older?" (Our answers: No Thank You, Evil!; Happy Birthday, Robot!; Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple; and Savage Worlds.) We've got something a bit unusual after our Scripture reading as well—a quick explanation of an Aramaic term, "Raca", that's untranslated in Matthew 5:22. After all that, we have a heavy topic to address: Murder. Why 'murder' and not 'kill' in most translations? What's the difference, and what causes it? How does Christ reframe this question in the Sermon on the Mount? And how do we square this against a hobby where violence, and often outright murder, is found in many of the games we play? Scripture: Exodus 20:13, Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 5:21-26, Romans 13:9
It's a special Halloween episode, this time on undeath! Well, okay, it's at least a Halloween episode, and that counts for something. We start things off with a quick update on our Twitch stream schedule (Peter's streaming Pathfinder: Kingmaker on Wednesdays for a while, leaving Jenny and Grant to stream on Fridays.) Jenny also has a special thank-you for Renegade Studios for being helpful in getting her copy of Overlight shipped correctly; and Grant plugs for his friend Patrick's appearance on The Gauntlet Podcast, which is really a well-deserved plug for the entire Gauntlet community as a haven of indie gaming and game design. We also handle a question from Patreon supporter Zach over at Back Burner Games, who asks us what roleplaying game we'd make if we had absolutely no obstacles. Then, after our very apt Scripture readings, we start talking about undeath! We obviously can't cover the entirety of the topic in half an hour, but we do talk about what 'undeath' means, and briefly touch on some sample historical and cultural beliefs about the undead. We also discuss what Scripture has to say about the undead; why the undead in their various incarnations are scary; and how to use the undead in interesting ways as both a player and as a gamemaster. Enjoy! Scripture: 1 Samuel 28:13-17, 1 Chronicles 10:13-14, Matthew 14:25-28, Luke 24:36-39

As we announced last week, we are taking a break from the regular episodes this week after the MEGA two parter that we dropped last week. If you have not done so, please check out the Fantasy Adventure Designer Roundtable we did with a bunch of really cool folks. We will be back next week with a regular episode. For now, though, we have another kickstarter preview which represents something of a left turn from the products we usually feature. We are happy to bring to you an interview about a brand spanking new RPG system called Overlight, currently running on Kickstarter. This represents the first foray into RPGs for Renegade Game Studios, which will serve both as a standalone product as well as a backdrop for a number of Renegade game products moving forward. Sara Erickson, Renegade's Director of Sales and Marketing, drops by the show to talk about the development of the system and what it offers that's different from other similar products. And, of course, since Jason is a massive RPG geek, he presses Sara for details about mechanisms, potential enemies in the world, what adventures look like in the system, and assorted other nuts and bolts. Check out Overlight on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/165626423/overlight-rpg-a-roleplaying-game-of-kaleidoscopic?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=overlight

At that age I was very much into the happy hardcore scene, the music became an addiction and a few short years later I managed to get my first gig at a local Rave, Club 2000. Things started to build quickly from there and I went on to DJ at now infamous clubs throughout the North East and West. As well as this, I started promoting my own fledgling club night, Oasis. It went from strength to strength at a rapid pace and within months the club was sold out for every event. This enabled me to introduce some of the biggest names in the hardcore scene to the local area. As I matured, so did my musical tastes, the natural progression for me was into trance, then into progressive trance/house. These styles contained the same uplifting elements as the hardcore sound I used to play but on a gradually deeper level. The more I got into prog, the more I got into the techier sound, championed at the time by the likes of John Digweed, Sasha & Danny Howells. I started producing music around 2000 with my good friend and inspiration Michael Burns (Blue Haze/Panoptic). In 2001, I was lucky enough to work with Chris Scott (Lexicon Avenue/Echomen), the result of this was the track "Dark Light" under our Indaba guise. Later signed to Prolekult, it featured on Danny Howellsí Renaissance The Masters mix, DC-10 Ibiza ñ The Album Part 2 as well as receiving big support from the the scenes major players. Releases soon followed this on Confi-Dance and Minimal Records, this time with Michael Burns under our Gazor guise. Our tracks Stabilized & Overlight were well received, featuring in the charts and playlists of DJ's the world over. Nowadays, I donít like to tie myself to any particular musical genre. My tastes are varied and eclectic, something which is reflected in my DJ sets and also my production. The basis is still very much on that "techy" sound but you will find elements of a lot more throughout. Throughout my career, I have shared the DJ box with Lexicon Avenue, Ian Ossia, Dave Seaman, Funk D'Void and Echomen.
