Just as it's important to count our own blessings, it's just as important to acknowledge the devastation visited upon Indigenous populations, in both the past and the present.
Pastor Emma reminded us that as Christians we are exiles in this world, and there is a constant war of sinful desires being waged against our souls. Our flesh may die, but our soul is eternal and Jesus came to save us so that we can eternally reside with Him in heaven. We must avoid becoming avoidant and controlling, and be surrendered to God and His will.
Pastor Emma reminded us that evangelism is sharing the Gospel with others and the it is a privilege to do this. We must let go of the fear of the assumptions of others and move from passive evangelism to active and strategic evangelism. We must not limit the spread of the Good News and we can do this by checking our bias, checking our excuses, and checking our revelation.
This week Pastor Emma gave us a powerful reminder and challenge to confront the pride in our lives and look to replace that with transformational humility. Looking at the example of what it takes place in Acts 8 we see that just like with Simon the sorcerer, receiving Jesus doesn’t mean that we still don’t have pride in our lives that we need to deal with. Although we are justified by faith as we receive Jesus we get to walk out the journey of sanctification as we deal with areas of pride. Pride isn’t only self-centredness but can also be masked as insecurity. Pride ultimately seeks power, is self-serving, persistent and seeks position. Humility on the other hand recognizes the source of power, it surrenders, is cultivated and seeks out calling.
This week Pastor Emma reminded us that Jesus is asking us to step out of the boat and into the calling that He has for us. To step out, we need to be disciplined in this season as that will set us up for the next one. We might feel unqualified but can be encouraged that, just like the disciples, Jesus knows that our starting point is not our final destination. We also have to be willing to step out into the unknown and remember that our adverse reaction to the unknown and remember that our adverse reaction to the unknown affects our ability to trust God. Let’s not let the comfort of the known keep us from the call of the Kingdom!
This week Pastor Emma reminded us that in different seasons we will face different challenges, but throughout it all, Jesus is steady and constant and we can put our trust in Him. Even though our gardens may look good on the outside, they need maintenance and we have to weed our gardens. If we are going to have victory, it’s going to take maintenance. We need to remember that God has given us power, love and sound mind. Just because we are Christians does not mean that we will be free from suffering, it means that we can put our hope in Jesus.

Pastor Emma reminds us that even though the world feels completely out of control, we as Christians can run with an assurance that we are more than conquerors. To live out this god given truth, we must 1) feel like we are conquerors; 2) think like we are conquerors, and; 3) act like conquerors.

Pastor Emma reminded us that as believers, although we have full access to the Holy Spirit, we will still have trials. We will go through seasons where is feels as if Jesus is allowing things to die in our lives and showing up when it is too late. We must let go of the desire to control every aspect of our lives and hold on to the hope that Jesus is in complete control. He shows up on His own time, and that time is always the right time.
Pastor Emma shared about seeing what we have in our hands now, rather than waiting for God do to something in our future. God wants us to use what we have now to see life change. The greater dissatisfaction we have for the present, the less able we are to see what we do have right now. Don’t delay because of comparison, insecurity, or underestimating our circumstance.
