Recharge for a More Balanced 2026

How do you rest and recharge when the world feels chaotic? After an unexpectedly hectic December, the Bossed Up podcast is back with a look at what recharging really requires—and it's not quitting everything or carrying on as usual. I've come to realize that the sweet spot, at least for me, is somewhere in the middle. This episode breaks down the balance I'm seeking to find this year, and I'd love to hear how it compares to your approach to the New Year. Between seriously scary news cycles and never-ending schedules, it's all too easy to overlook gratitude in lieu of existential dread and getting everything done. Consider this your invitation to take a beat, drop a ball (or two), and approach 2026 with a healthy dose of self-compassion.Join me in recalibrating for 2026 so we can recharge for real:How we can strike a balance between pushing forward and being present; The role gratitude plays in staying realistic about the future; When and where to decenter social media and lean into the analog;A reminder to give your personal calendar a bit of love.Related Links:TAKE ACTION - https://www.bossedup.org/takeactionGet a copy of The Husbands by Holly Gramazio - https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-husbands-a-read-with-jenna-pick-a-novel-holly-gramazio/658e8495219fe107EP 525 “Resisting Despair: Coping Tools for a Declining Democracy” - https://www.bossedup.org/podcast/episode525Try out the BePresent app - https://www.bepresentapp.com/Bossed Up job search resources - https://www.bossedup.org/free-resources/job-searchThe Definitive Guide to Negotiating as a Woman - https://www.bossedup.org/negotiationBossed Up Courage Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/927776673968737/Bossed Up LinkedIn Group - https://www.linkedin.com/groups/7071888/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. He's an introvert who can “perform” like an extrovert on stage, but big groups drain him dry. And when things go sideways with people who think totally differently, his solution isn't some mystical personality hack. It's brutally practical: set expectations early, agree on goals and methods, decide what someone can own without checking in, and measure progress with real numbers. Then he drops the kind of advice that can save your relationships and your blood pressure: when you're angry, don't send the email. Let it sit. If it's still true tomorrow, you can say it tomorrow. And when someone messes up, assume overwhelm or disorganization before you assume betrayal. That one tiny assumption change flips the tone of everything you read, everything you say, and what kind of leader (or partner) you become.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Somewhere along the way, experiencing things stopped being the point — now it's just about being seen experiencing them. This episode is my running commentary on the People Parade: the main-character energy, the phones-out-for-everything crowd, and the absolute inability to exist in a moment without turning it into content. From disrespecting animals to ignoring rules to treating the world like a personal backdrop, I unpack why being around people feels more exhausting than ever — and why I'm increasingly happy opting out. There's yelling (earned), there's humor (unhinged), there's a near-emotional breakdown involving a baby kangaroo, and there's a full acceptance of my final form: flawed brand, low tolerance, zero interest in being palatable. If you've ever gone somewhere incredible just to watch everyone ruin it for themselves, welcome to the parade.socials:https://www.instagram.com/twndpodcasthttps://www.twitter.com/twndpodcast

If you've ever wondered why tumors can shrink but cancer still comes back years later, or why inflammation, gut health, and detoxification matter more than most people realize, this episode will shift how you think about cancer at its root. In this conversation, I explore groundbreaking research on breast cancer stem cells, metastasis, and how specific plant extracts can selectively target cancer cells while leaving healthy cells untouched. We talk about why conventional treatments often miss the most aggressive cells, and how supporting the body's biology may play a role in reducing recurrence. We also connect the dots between chronic stress, inflammation, environmental toxins, gut health, and immune resilience—factors that are especially important for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, and hormone imbalance. What You'll Hear in This Episode • Why breast cancer stem cells are believed to drive metastasis and recurrence • How certain plant extracts can distinguish cancer cells from healthy cells • The role of inflammation, detoxification, and environmental stress in cancer progression • Why an integrated approach matters—even alongside conventional treatment This episode is about understanding the what and the why behind cancer—not fear, not hype, and not false promises. It's about knowledge, empowerment, and looking deeper than symptoms alone. If you're interested in prevention, long-term resilience, or understanding how gut health, inflammation, and the immune system influence cancer risk, this conversation is one you won't want to miss. They're expressions of overwhelm. This episode is about learning how to ask questions that create movement instead of paralysis, clarity instead of self-blame, and agency instead of burnout. As physicians, curiosity is our superpower. We use it expertly with our patients—but we rarely turn it inward. This week is about changing that.We reflect on:Why unanswerable questions keep us stuckHow asking better questions helps you interrupt autopilot and conditioned overworkingWhy this is not about blaming yourself or ignoring systemic problemsHow small, daily check-ins can fundamentally change how you experience your life and workThis isn't about fixing healthcare overnight. It's about giving yourself back some power today.

The adrenaline of the big day has vanished, but the world is already trying to claw its way back in with sales alerts, friends wanting to meet up, or family asking about leftovers. There is a pressure to be productive today—to go out and grab a bargain or make the most of your time off. Stop. Take a deep breath and push all of that away.In today's 10-minute session, we are practicing JOMO: The Joy of Missing Out. This is your official permission slip to be unavailable, unproductive, and to hibernate. In this guided meditation, you will learn to:Mute the Chaos: Use a mental "remote control" to silence the swirling vortex of high street noise and demand, turning the busy world to grey until it dissolves.Release the Guilt: Acknowledge the feeling that you "should" be doing something and gently tell it: "Not today".Enter the Hibernation Cave: Visualize a safe, warm space—perhaps a cabin deep in the snowy forest or a room with soundproof walls—where time has stopped.Internalize New Affirmations: Repeat deeply healing statements like, "My peace is more important than their expectations" and "I am enough just as I am, doing absolutely nothing".Rest is not laziness; it is preservation. You are protecting your peace and allowing your nervous system to come down from the high alert of the holidays.

Year-End Reset for Developers: A Pre-Christmas Check-In to Finish Strong

Develpreneur: Become a Better Developer and Entrepreneur

The week before Christmas has a way of exposing how the year really went. Deadlines either slow down or pile up, calendars get messy, and the pressure to "wrap everything up" shows up at the same time you're trying to enjoy the season. In this Pre-Christmas episode of Building Better Developers, Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche keep it practical: looking back on the year, calling out what worked (and what didn't), and sharing why a year-end reset for developers is the best way to prepare for a better new year. Why a Year-End Reset for Developers Matters A year-end reset for developers isn't just taking a few days off. It's stepping back long enough to see the patterns you've been living in: where you made progress, where you got stuck, and where you've been running on fumes. This episode is about doing that reflection without guilt—and using it to set yourself up for momentum, rather than burnout. A year-end reset for developers is how you stop repeating the same year with a new calendar. The Good, the Bad, and the Real: Looking Back on the Year Rob kicks things off with a simple reflection: one good thing and one bad thing from the year. The good news is that the business made it through another year. That matters more than people like to admit. Survival means you kept moving, you adapted, and you didn't shut the doors. He also highlights a significant win: spending more time working on the business, rather than just being inside it. That includes improving systems, making changes, and investing in the foundation that supports growth. The bad is honest too: the company didn't grow as much as he wanted. Some goals didn't land. Still, even that can be useful—because it creates space to strengthen the core instead of rushing to scale. A year-end reset for developers starts with one question—what did you build that will help you next year? Micro Goals: How a Year-End Reset for Developers Turns Into Progress One of the biggest themes in this episode is that progress doesn't require dramatic change. Rob leans into incremental improvement—the small steps that keep forward motion alive when life gets busy. He talks about regularly touching key areas of the business: rebuilding and redesigning parts of the brand, creating internal tools, and moving toward more custom systems to reduce dependency on licenses and patchwork solutions. It's a steady approach: a little time each week, consistently, until the results show up. He also points out that networking and marketing may not be fun for everyone, but doing them consistently builds relationships—and those relationships often become valuable in ways you can't predict. Micro goals are the engine of a year-end reset for developers—small steps, repeated, create big change. When You're Split Across Stacks, the Reset Becomes Essential Michael talks about something many devs feel: context switching is expensive. This year, he has had two major projects running in two different technology worlds—Django/Python/Apache on one side and Java/Spring/AWS/Redis on the other. Even when you enjoy the work, the mental shift between stacks adds friction. That's why a year-end reset for developers needs to include something most of us skip: rest. Not "watch a screen while thinking about work" rest—real rest. Rest Is Not a Suggestion: The Core of a Year-End Reset for Developers Michael shares what he's been trying to implement more seriously: turning off distractions, stepping away from screens, and scheduling real breaks. Michael took a couple of days off over Thanksgiving and felt a clear difference. Because the truth is, there's a point where "powering through" stops working. You can still finish tasks, but it takes ten times the effort. Your mind gets foggy. Your focus disappears. Then you start mistaking exhaustion for a productivity problem. So the recommendation is simple: schedule rest like it's a requirement. Take a walk. Read a book. Get away from devices. Let your eyes rest. Get out into your community. Look at holiday events, concerts, or just go see Christmas lights. The goal is to reconnect with life outside your backlog. The fastest way to improve your output is often a year-end reset for developers—rest first, then refocus. Boundaries Make You Better: Deadlines, Routines, and Quitting Time Rob adds an important point: structure helps. Having a "quit time" creates a boundary that forces smarter choices. He's found that shrinking the to-do list and accepting "it'll be there tomorrow" can actually increase productivity. We've preached this for years, and it still holds: once you push past a certain number of hours each week, you're not producing more—you're just working longer. A year-end reset for developers includes rebuilding boundaries that protect your focus. He also shares something worth repeating: everyone needs a way to disconnect. Exercise, cooking, a hobby, a walk—whatever it is, find it. If you don't have it, go discover it. Closing Thoughts: Enjoy the Season and Start Fresh This episode wraps with a simple holiday message: enjoy the time you have. Spend it with family and friends. Take a break. Indulge a little. Get out of the house. Recharge. Then when the new year hits, you'll be ready to set goals that actually stick—because you'll be thinking clearly and moving on purpose. A year-end reset for developers isn't a luxury. It's how you finish the year with gratitude—and start the next one with momentum. Send us a textWhat do you need more of right now?Your brain will say: time, sleep, money, peace on earth, a functioning Epic inbox. Fair. But this week, we're naming the thing that quietly drives everything else: connection. Not “more people.” Not “more social plans.”More moments where you actually feel connected—to your people, to your purpose, and to yourself.Because you can be surrounded all day (patients, staff, family) and still feel… nothing. Or worse: irritated, numb, braced, and already mentally leaving the room while your body is still sitting there. This episode is a gentle—but very real—invitation to come back.In this episode, we talk about:Why connection is often the missing ingredient for stressed, high-functioning women physiciansThe difference between being around people and feeling connectedThe secret ingredient you can't skip: presenceHow to recognize what connection feels like in your body (not someone else's Pinterest version)Three kinds of connection to practice this week:Connection to other humansConnection to a cause/passionConnection to yourselfThe hard truth: if connection feels totally inaccessible right now, that's not a character flaw—it's a signal you need supportYour Week 9 Challenge: Micro Moments of ConnectionPick one focus area this week—don't do all three unless you genuinely want to.Connection to other humansTry one “micro moment” per day:Put the phone down, face someone, make eye contactGive a real hug (not the drive-by shoulder bump)Share one honest sentence instead of your highlight reelBe fully there for 60 seconds (yes, even at the dinner table)2. Connection to a cause or passionIf connection with people feels like… a lot right now, connect to something that matters:Contribute, participate, show up, or simply remember why you careLet your work link you to meaning (even if the system is a mess)3. Connection to yourselfThis one is underrated—and powerful:Notice your self-talk: is it kind, or is it a hostile attending who never goes off service?Try a few minutes of journaling, stillness, prayer, meditation, or a walk with no inputChoose one moment where you stop abandoning yourselfA quick reflection (do this right now)Think of a time you felt genuinely connected. Ask:What did that feel like in my body? What thoughts were present? What made that moment possible? Then choose your tiny practice for the week.Because connection isn't a grand gesture. It's a repeatable skill. You're not behindIf you're joining mid-challenge, welcome. Send us a textIn this deeply encouraging solo episode, Justin Roethlingshoefer speaks directly into the exhaustion, overwhelm, and spiritual disconnection many people feel during the holiday season. While the world encourages us to “push through,” “finish the year strong,” or “just start again in January,” Justin exposes the real issue: most people don't lack capability—they lack recovery. In this episode, Justin walks through a powerful 7-Day Night Routine Reset—a simple, stackable system anyone can do at home, on the road, or in the middle of holiday chaos. Send us a textFeeling short-tempered, drained, or like your empathy meter is flashing red? We dig into what it means to run on low emotional batteries and how a six-second pause can change the course of your day. From workplace crunch to family friction to those white-knuckle moments in traffic, we show how micro-moves—tiny habits and deliberate pauses—turn reactivity into choice and frustration into clarity. We start with awareness, because noticing the dimmer lights is the first charge. Then we get practical: count to six before you respond, put your shoes by the door to make movement frictionless, and try a disarming “thank you” instead of a knee-jerk rebuttal. These simple tools reduce emotional spikes, smooth conversations, and free up energy for what matters. Along the way, we talk about year-end pressure, the myth of waiting for a perfect restart, and why consistently inconsistent routines keep the thread alive when life surges.Under the hood, this is brain science at work. Neuroplasticity favors what you repeat with attention and emotion. Stop walking the old path of snappy comebacks and doom loops, and brush grows back. Walk a new path—pause, breathe, ask one clean question—and it becomes easier to find under stress. We also highlight the global community at Six Seconds, an emotional intelligence network focused on growing empathy, optimism, and trust at scale. Your energy affects rooms you enter; tune it and you'll feel the shift in yourself and around you.If this conversation gave you a fresh tool or a gentler lens, share it with a friend who's running on fumes, hit follow so you never miss an episode, and leave a review telling us where you'll use your six-second pause next.

Fathers Eve: Building Community and Connection for Dads EverywhereIn this episode, host Josh Elledge interviews John Francis, Founder of Fathers Eve, to explore how a small garage gathering grew into a nationwide movement supporting dads through connection, camaraderie, and community. John shares how Fathers Eve began organically in Minnesota and has since expanded into a global celebration held the night before Father's Day. He discusses the challenges many men face around social isolation and why intentional, judgment-free gatherings can have such a powerful impact on mental health, family life, and community strength. How Fathers Eve Helps Dads Build Meaningful ConnectionsJohn explains that many men lose touch with friendships as they get older, take on more responsibilities, or struggle to maintain social habits after the pandemic. Fathers Eve combats this by creating relaxed, pressure-free environments—ranging from backyard get-togethers to bar meetups to virtual countdown celebrations—where dads can show up as themselves without expectations. The simplicity is intentional: no speakers, no programming, just space for men to talk, laugh, share experiences, and realize they're not alone in their challenges. He also highlights the signature tradition that unites Fathers Eve events worldwide: the 8 p.m. local-time countdown toast, streamed across time zones, creating a shared moment of celebration and solidarity. Activities like cornhole, small trophies, and optional charity drives add fun, community impact, and meaningful purpose to gatherings. For hosts, Fathers Eve provides guidance, personal support from John, and the flexibility to design events that fit their community's needs. Finally, John emphasizes the broader ripple effect these events create—from forming new friendships to strengthening families to contributing to local charities through diaper drives and fundraising efforts. Fathers Eve's open, inclusive format allows dads to build deeper social bonds, improving mental well-being and fostering long-term connection. Whether attending or hosting, dads walk away feeling celebrated, supported, and part of something bigger.About John FrancisJohn Francis is the Founder of Fathers Eve, a global movement focused on creating connection, support, and community for dads everywhere. Known as “Johnny Franchise,” John is also a consultant, speaker, and advocate for fatherhood, leadership, and community-building. About Fathers EveFathers Eve (fatherseve.com) is a growing worldwide gathering held the night before Father's Day, uniting dads in cities across the U.S. and around the world. 127. Medical Gaslighting: Why Women Are Treated Like Small Men & What To Do About It

A Little Bit Healthier

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 2, 2025 16:59

Ever been told your labs are "normal," but you're still dealing with crushing fatigue, brain fog, weird digestive issues, or stubborn weight loss resistance—and secretly wondered if it's all in your head? In this episode, I unpack why that experience is heartbreakingly common for women and how a system built on male bodies has failed to truly understand female hormone balance, metabolism, and gut health. I share how, for most of medical history, women were treated as "small men" in research. Drug trials, diagnostic criteria, and lab ranges were based on male physiology, while our cycles, hormones, and unique digestive health patterns were labeled "too variable." That gap is still affecting you today—whether you're in perimenopause, struggling with IBS and bloating, or dragging yourself through the day with low energy and brain fog. Key Points in This Episode • How women were systematically excluded from research—and what that means for your labs, medications, and "normal" ranges when you don't feel normal at all. • The lingering legacy of "hysteria" and why women's symptoms—fatigue, pain, gut issues, anxiety—still get dismissed, minimized, or blamed on stress. • What actually happens in your brain, nervous system, hormones, and gut when you're not believed, and how that can worsen IBS, inflammation, and metabolic symptoms. • Seven practical practices to reclaim your voice in the medical system—how to document patterns, ask better questions, use stronger language, and keep going until you find someone who listens. This conversation is about giving you context for why you've felt dismissed—and tools so you stop doubting yourself. If you're tired of being told "everything looks fine" while your energy, hormone balance, gut health, and metabolism clearly say otherwise, this episode will help you see that your body isn't the problem. Hit play and let's start changing how you show up for your health. Stop wasting time (and money) on products that don't work. My Trusted Brands Guide is the exact list I share with my private clients — the skincare, supplements, food, and wellness tools that have been tested and proven to deliver results. No fluff.
