Dan and Tom sit down with Tom Peters, Proprietor of Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia. This past week Tom made the difficult decision to shut Monk's Cafe down for the foreseeable future. He explains his reasons for doing so, how difficult this decision has been and what his plans are to inevitably reopen. Tom also shares with us the origin story of when he convinced Cantillon to distribute their lambics to Philly, his recent trip with Sean Hill to a New Zealand hop farm, upcoming cellar sales and breweries that he plans on bringing on board when he reopens. If you'd like a lesson on great beer and where to find it this is a great listen! Oh we almost forgot to mention Tom teases possible bottle sales of Russian River's PYT in Phillly for next year. All this and more on another episode of America The BREW-tiful!
New Philadelphia? Yeah...we have some thoughts about the Philadelphia 76ers and their new City Edition uniforms. We also address Brett Favre's spicy comments about Carson Wentz, and make some Eagles' predictions for the 2nd half of the season.
Philly is ground zero for bed bugs, and the only big city without a policy to help fight them. Sarah Jordan spoke with local pest educator Michelle Niedermeier, who wants to change that
We're back with another episode of Oilersnation Radio! We're still on a high after interviewing Geroges Laraque last week, but the gang manages to compose ourselves enough to record one more episode this morning. The bye-week has officially come to an end and the Oilers practiced once last night, before they fly out to Phillly today. With that said, we had some good insight on some line combinations we saw from last nights podcast. The boys dive into that depressing topic, as well as what we are to expect from the Oilers this weekend during their games against the Flyers and Canadiens. This weeks intro and outro Song is "Storms A Brewin'" from Raygun Cowboys. Check them out on Instagram or Their Website. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Mark Scott/August 7, 2013 Mark Scott grew up in a wealthy Christian family, firmly isolated from the harsh reality of life outside his palatial home and private school. Then he was infected with the germ of punk. Already questioning the beliefs he was subjected to as a chlid, punk only served to open young Mark’s mind to a world of compassion and action. He went on to play in one of the most popular Phillly pop-punk bands of the 1990s, Fracture. He also went through a “wild stage,” which we discuss. Years later, Mark now teaches in a Philadelphia public school to young people who’ve grown up poverty. The lessons of caring and compassion that were honed by punk still play a role in how Mark relates to his students (who truly love him). Far removed from his upbringing, Mark brings something positive and nurturing to his family and students. His gregarious enthusiasm shines through this interview. (Sadly, while we discussed it before the interview, we never got around to talking about how — at a show many years ago — a drunken dimwit mistook him for someone else and knocked him cold, beat him about the head, and then curbjawed Mark, leaving him with his jaw wired shut.) The post LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! Episode 32: Mark Scott of Fracture appeared first on Cinepunx.
Harsh disciplinary policies, such as zero tolerance, contribute to the school to prison pipeline by criminalizing students and pushing them out of school. Restorative practices, on the other hand, offer an opportunity to repair & move forward after a problem arises, keeping more students engaged in their education. For almost a decade, Padres y Jóvenes Unidos (Parents and Youth United) have been working to change the school system in Denver, Colorado by implementing restorative practices instead of zero tolerance policies. The parents and students organizing to make these changes succeeded in winning a new discipline policy for their school district. After a year of this new policy, which guarantees students' rights, schools have seen dramatic improvements in school climate and a large reduction of violent incidents. Dan Jones interviewed Lalo Montoya (pictured) of Padres y Jóvenes Unidos to learn more about their strategies and successes.
