The Trauma Therapist | Podcast with Guy Macpherson, PhD | Inspiring interviews with thought-leaders in the field of trauma.

This one from the archives is with one of my favorite guests, Gerald W. Vest, LMFT. Gerry is no longer with us yet his passion, which I'm sure you'll hear in this interview, was a driving force for me as I've continued to produce this podcast. Gerry's compassion for those veterans he worked with is so friggin' inspiring. I so wish I could have him back on the show. Gerald W. Vest, LMFT was a military OneSource and TRICARE provider for individuals, couples, and families. He supervised students and professionals for licensing requirements. In addition, he organized, consulted, and trained for the Community Integrative Health Collaboratives, which served warriors, veterans, and their families using integrative and holistic approaches to healing.Gerald also served as a Senior Social Worker for the premier US Army Warrior Restoration and Resilience Center (R and R Center) at Ft. Bliss, TX. His responsibilities included meeting with soldiers diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress (PTSd) as a primary therapist, along with their children and families.---If you'd like to support The Trauma Therapist Podcast and the work I do you can do that here with a monthly donation of $5, $7, or $10: Donate to The Trauma Therapist Podcast. This episode was very inspiring and one of the most valuable episodes I have done. Our guest today truly has a beautiful soul. He’s perfected the process towards financial freedom. However, like so many of us entrepreneurs, he do found himself stuck between doing what he SHOULD and SHOULDN’T do for his business. We have a hard time deciding whether we keep going down this path and be miserable, or go down this other one and be stress-free. We’re stressing about a lot of stuff in both our lives and in business when it shouldn’t be the case.  This episode will sure help you release the stuff that weighs you down and begin to spend more of your energy, time, and knowledge on the things that really matters. Rennie’s Top 5 StrengthsFinder Themes:   Learner Belief Responsibility Activator Strategic     Key Takeaways It was a situation where I had decided this is not how I want to live my life. I could fail high school and math and become a millionaire, and it does not prepare you for real life. Those moments that define us–that are our personal rock bottoms–are different for everybody. More money makes you more of who you are. There is this abundance that comes when you are willing to give both yourself and financially. We have a responsibility as entrepreneurs to make as much money as humanly possible. Wealth is a team sport; not a solo sport. The horrific bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon has had a profound impact on all of us whether we were there or watching on TV.  The images are forever part of our lives now.   Events  of this magnitude have the potential to cause Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD).  What is happening is, the brain is having great difficulty filtering and understanding the information.  It is trying to process the experience or visuals.  The result is can cause stress with symptoms ranging from anxiety, disrupted sleeping patterns, anger, sadness, fear and loss of appetite. It is often thought that PTSD occurs only to those who experience a severe trauma like war.  But this is not the case.   An event like the bombings can traumatize and cause PTSD to those who only see it on TV. Healthcare Whisperer welcomes back Michele Rosenthal,  an expert on PTSD to talk about PTSD. She has personally experienced and overcome PTSD.  She has dedicated her life to helping others to understand PTSD and find the appropriate care.  Her website www.healmyPTSD.com offers a wealth of information on PTSD and resources.  Her book, Before the World Intruder: Conquering the Past and Creating the Future  is an award nominated book. Michele will be offering assistance and resources for those experiencing PTSD after the horrible Boston events.  Listen and call in with questions
