Shoutout to two special Fierce Ladies who requested today's episode! Today's episode is unpacking our human energies - masculine, feminine, yin and yang. We identify what energies we bring into the world (both internally and externally) and how we can advocate for ourselves so that how we feel and how we act are in equilibrium. So the question begs, "is "strong" a compliment?" Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It takes absolutely no effort to WORRY, right?! We can easily slip into those thought patterns & plan for the worst case scenario-- i.e.: I'm gunna fail, I'll waste my time/money, I won't get any customers, etc. But, if we're always planning for the worst, we're robbing ourselves of JOY. So, that's why we've got to challenge ourselves to plan for the BEST-- that is, how good could this thing we're doing possibly get?! Listen in for 3 reasons/ways that asking myself this question has helped me be more excited, take more strategic action, & to determine if the path I'm pursuing is aligned. ***Let's connect: Instagram: @dr.meggymarie-- you'll see behind the scenes podcasting, writing, & life AND you'll help me create content that empowers women!Website: www.meggymarie.com-- there are so many juicy things on this website, including so many FREE resources for self-empowerment! Today's topic is all about figuring out what we want to do, goal-wise! If you follow me on Instagram, you knew this was coming because I asked you what you wanted to hear & this won by a mile! :) To key up the topic, we dive into needs vs wants & how our society often makes us feel super guilty for wants. While there are definitely certain seasons of life when wants take the back-burner, wants & wanting is not inherently a bad thing-- in fact, it's one of the things that make us human! Then, we dive deep into some really powerful questions that can help us determine what it is what we want to spend our precious time pursuing. We only get ONE shot on this planet, so let's not wait for the perfect day or get to the end and be filled with regret, k?! :) Rooting for you always! Remember, my friend Courney-- @confettiworthymedia-- & I are going LIVE on Instagram on April 14th at 9:30 PST, 11:30 CST, & 12:30 EST to talk all things journaling! What kind of impact do you want to make? What kind of a legacy or movement do you want to make? 4. When you strip away all the shoulds, inner critic, people pleasing, judgment, doubts, etc.-- what's there? What's the beating heart of what you want to do more than anything?
Reflection, like we talked about last week, is a phenomenal self-empowerment tool! Last week, we talked about 3 specific reflection questions we can use to celebrate a goal, milestone, or accomplishment. Now, this week we're diving into ANOTHER super cool & empowering way that we can use reflection in that post-goal or accomplishment state, which is to get really, really clear on how we can pursue a goal even BETTER next time! As ambitious women, we know that getting intentional about how we show up for our goals will create more fulfillment & joy throughout the process, which is crucial to building a life that we're excited about. No goal is worth pursuing if it makes us miserable, so we've got to flex those critical thinking & reflection muscles by asking ourselves what's working & what's not?! As Maya Angelou, my favorite poet in the whole word, says: "Do the best you can until you know better. Once you know better, do better." Today's episode is all about CELEBRATING!!! Whether it's the mini-steps on a journey, any sort of milestone, or even the competition of an entire goal, we gotta pause & CELEBRATE our faces off! The thing you're celebrating-- starting anything, a certain # of downloads, the two pink strips on a pregnancy test, the resignation letter, the promotion, making the doctor's appointment, etc.-- is HUGE & deserves to be reveled in because you DID it! So, let's link arms and pause in order to reflect for a moment before jumping into the next thing, step, or phase. If we don't, we risk the opportunity to pump ourselves up for whatever is coming next, but also... if we don't reflect, we lose out on so much growth and lessons and feeling proud. Today's guest is Kyesha Jennings who is a friend from graduate school! She's an absolutely brilliant Hip-Hop scholar, freelance journalist, content director of the North Carolina Arts Council, & she's a new mom. As a multi-passionate creative, who is a storyteller at heart no matter what she's doing, Kyesha transitioned out of academia/being a professor and into a whole new workspace because she wanted something fresh! One of my favorite parts of Kyesha's story is that she was presented with an amazing opportunity that she knew she couldn't pass up for many reasons. She's proof that it's possible to pivot, your skills do transfer, you can figure it out as you go, and you don't have to be defined by just one passion or role. Connect: @kyeshajenningsP.S: My book, The Power Within Her: Guide to Journaling, is on preorder for ONE more week! Ahhhh! So excited. To check out the book & what it's all about, you can find it in one of three ways: 1. Head to my website. Because when Guide to Journaling is purchased, part of the proceeds funnel directly into a scholarship fund for women to apply to college. Thank you for being here!
All aboard the tough love train, baby! Today's episode is a fiery pep talk style episode that's all about AVOIDING! Because let's be real: sometimes when it comes to our goals, applying for a new job, or even going to the doctor or dentist, we tend to avoid it because it's uncomfy or scary. Before we know it, we let "what if's" & hypothetical scenarios/stories that don't serve us run the show! Then, we have to suffer the consequences, such as someone else starting that business venture we wanted to, somebody else might get that awesome job, or you need a root canal instead of just a filling. So, cheers to being the type of women who stop avoiding & start taking things head on! EXCITING NEWS: My book, "The Power Within Her: Guide to Journaling" is officially on PREORDER!!!!!! Let's freaking go, right!?! My friend, Meredith, is back on the podcast to share her story about loss, grief, and healing. As you know, The Power Within Her only releases 1 episode a week on Tuesdays, but I just had to bring you this episode today because it's THAT important. We need to have more raw & real conversations about the complexity of grief and healing. Throughout this incredible conversation, we chat about not 'shoulding' ourselves when grieving/healing, navigating others' opinions/expectations/grief, the complexity of human beings, celebrating how a person lived rather than how they died, dating after loss, & so much more. Even if you're not currently grieving or healing, loss is a part of life & we're all going to navigate it at some point. So, listen in for Meredith's incredible story that she wanted to share & details about her Guide to Healing Program. Thanks for being here, friend! Love ya :)
