This podcast is hosted by edWeb.The webinar recording can be accessed here.Lin-Manuel Miranda has transformed the world of musical storytelling with his giant stage and screen hits: Hamilton, In the Heights, Moana, Encanto, and more. But this Grammy-, Tony-, Emmy-, and Pulitzer-winning songwriter didn't do it alone. As a new book, Lin-Manuel Miranda: The Education of an Artist, argues, Miranda's success stems not only from innate genius, but from a lifetime of insatiable curiosity and an overwhelming appetite to learn from everyone around him.Join author Daniel Pollack-Pelzner for this edWeb podcast to explore the teachers who shaped Miranda's journey from the shy, sensitive child of Puerto Rican parents, growing up in an immigrant neighborhood in the northernmost tip of Manhattan, to the galvanizing force who would expand America's sense of its own story. How can we, as educators, nurture the future Lin-Manuels in our classrooms and communities? What are the parenting, teaching, collaborative, and creative lessons that Miranda's story reveals? This edWeb podcast is of interest to K-12 teachers and school leaders, as well as higher education educators interested in the arts.Learn more about viewing live edWeb presentations and on-demand recordings, earning CE certificates, and using accessibility features.
Surprise, it's us again—back with another special bonus episode from the Experience Encanto series! Host Zeke Corley sits alongside his co-host for this series, Taryell Simmons from the Rise Urban Nation podcast. In this episode, we had the honor of sitting down with an incredible leader and voice for empowerment, Idara Ogunsaju—owner of The Antorge Group and author of The Confidence Talk: I Said Soar.In this conversation, we dug deep into one of Idara's most passionate missions: rebuilding confidence in women in the workplace. She breaks down the “why,” the “how,” and the real impact she's seeing through her work at The Antorge Group. And of course, we also talked about the Encanto Experience itself—what it means for the community, for creators, and for the future of culturally rooted professional development. If you want to learn more about Idara's work, you can find her at antorgegroup.com or on Instagram @antorgegroup. And make sure to check out her past feature on Rise Urban Nation to hear even more of her story.Big shoutout to Brooke Collins—the powerhouse organizer behind the Encanto Experience—and to Marathon Barbershop on Imperial Avenue for hosting us in their space. If you're watching this episode, take a moment to appreciate the art on the walls, including that spinning piece from @Dope_Rx. The vibe was just right.Stick with us—there's plenty more bonus content coming your way from our time at the Encanto Experience.
In a very special episode of the Film Stories podcast, Simon is joined by two of the team behind Disney's new animated movie, Zootropolis. There's producer Yvett Merino, an Oscar-winner for Encanto, who came to Zootropolis 2 hot off the heels of Moana 2. And then writer/director Jared Bush returns to the podcast, for what's becoming a very welcome annual check in with the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios. The conversation covers the new Zootropolis/Zootopia film, a four minute sequence that got cut out of the film, a dog with a dodgy tummy, and a whole lot more... Learn more about your ad choices.
Ghost opens Episode 59 with humor, Encanto music, and a reminder of how absurd the global news cycle has become before diving headfirst into Venezuela's rapidly escalating geopolitical storm. He breaks down Nicolás Maduro's explosive claim that U.S. banks and intelligence agencies—not Latin America—are the true center of global drug trafficking, then contrasts that with the U.S. designating the “Cartel of the Suns” a terrorist organization and launching deadly boat strikes across the region. Ghost analyzes viral clips of Maduro dancing, the wave of flight cancellations after FAA warnings, and the massive U.S. naval buildup near Venezuela, questioning who is actually pushing for conflict. He explores the contested Guyana oil fields, Chevron's strategic legal maneuvers, British intelligence suddenly halting information sharing, and how the battle for Essequibo ties into global power plays involving China, Russia, Exxon, and 5 Eyes. Ghost highlights the propaganda, psyops, neocon pressure, CIA narratives, and media manipulation fueling panic—while emphasizing how every faction is playing its own game. A sharp, funny, and deeply detailed breakdown of a chaotic moment where nothing is as it seems.

Send us a textA tart key lime pie martini with a graham cracker rim is our catalyst for a full‑tilt imagineering session: if Disney's rumored expansions really land, which ones would we sprint to first—and why? We map out five bold concepts and give each a heartbeat with ride systems, restaurants, and signature cocktails you can practically taste. We start with Monstropolis, where a suspended “door vault” coaster could deliver a rare Disney sweet spot: thrilling enough for teens, whimsical enough for kids, and endlessly re‑rideable. Think Harry Hausen's sushi with a crisp saketini and a playful gummy‑eye garnish, plus a refreshed show space to keep crowds moving. Then we dive into Villains Land, sketching two e‑ticket anchors and a moody multi‑room “Lair” where each chamber channels a different baddie—Sazerac for Dr. Facilier, spice‑bright North African notes for Jafar, and dry‑ice theatrics fit for the Evil Queen. It lives on street energy: sharp character improv, quotable one‑liners, and wicked photo ops.Next up, Piston Peak shifts gears to Rocky Mountain grit: an off‑road racing experience, a family ride, and hearty comfort food. Picture bison burgers, green‑chile sides, huckleberry desserts, and a reservation‑only beer and whiskey lounge to finally give Magic Kingdom a grown‑up hideout. Over at DCA, Pandora: The Way of Water remains murky but promising; we imagine a headline water ride with glowing foliage, plus a California‑leaning canteen that balances bioluminescent looks with clean, craveable flavors. Finally, Tropical Americas blends Encanto's color and music with an Indiana Jones overlay. The aesthetics could be breathtaking—string lights, carved wood, and a nightly plaza party—powered by a proper caipirinha bar and savory South American plates that make you linger. We wrap with our predicted build order and a simple truth: rides hook guests, but food, drinks, music, and playful spaces make lands sticky. Hit play, then tell us which concept should get greenlit first. If you enjoy these big‑swing blueprints, subscribe, share with a Disney‑loving friend, and drop a review so more fans can find the show.

Surprise — it's us again! We know it's been a minute, and we can't thank you enough for the messages, the love, and the support you've shown during our hiatus. We're not quite back with the next full season of Same Business Different Day just yet — but don't worry, it's definitely in the works. In the meantime, we wanted to drop something special for those of you who've been asking for more content from us.Recently, we had the honor of being invited by Taryell Simmons and Rise Urban Nation to the inaugural Experience Encanto: Art Stroll, an arts and culture festival held right in the heart of Encanto on October 17th. We set up shop inside Marathon Barbershop, right in the middle of the action, and got to sit down with some incredible guests who were there to support and celebrate the event. In this first interview, we're talking with DOPE Rx, an artist originally from Chicago who's spent the past eight years making his mark here in San Diego. He shares a powerful story about the formula his father taught him on his deathbed, how that led him to patent his own color, and — you won't believe this — the tale of the rarest shoes ever stolen from an art exhibit. We've got more from this series coming soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, keep spreading the word about all of our @adifferentdayradio shows, make sure you're subscribed, and — as always — thank you for your continued support.

We often admire strength and resilience in others while doubting we have it ourselves. But here's the truth: strength doesn't always look bold and unshakable, and resilience doesn't always feel like bouncing back quickly. Most of the time, this actually looks a lot more like exhaustion, baby steps forward, and continuing to show up.In this episode, we'll rethink what it really means to be a woman of strength and resilience. From identifying with (or bawling through) Luisa's “Surface Pressure” song in Encanto to the practice of keeping a simple “ta-da list,” you'll discover that you're already stronger than you think. And when your own capacity feels like it's run out, God's Word reminds us that His strength shows up in our weakness.Episode HighlightsHow we view strength and resilience in others vs what it actually looks likePractical ways to identify and validate your own strength and resilience in daily lifeThe value of showing up rather than looking tough2 Corinthians 12:9 - “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Resources MentionedGive Yourself Credit - You Do a Lot! - “Ta-Da” List Journal Shop all Merciful Mornings journalsListen to “Surface Pressure” from EncantoRelated Episodes You Might Also LikeEP 3 - Encouragement for the Woman Who is Drowning in OverwhelmEP 18 - Giving Yourself Grace Through Seasons of LifeEP 21 - 5 Tips to Keep Going and Never Give UpEP 39 - The Source of Empowerment with Becky BeresfordEP 59 - Rethinking the Proverbs 31 Woman: Inspiration, Not ExpectationEP 64 - Letting Go Isn't Giving Up: The Faithful Fight Against Anxiety with Nichole SuvarConnect with RachelWebsite: racheldbaker.comInstagram: @rachel.d.baker Email: rachel@racheldbaker.comIt means so much to me that you are part of this community! I went to University City High School. I am married with three kids. Elina 6, Eden 3 and Kebru 1.In 2004, I received a full scholarship to the University of Southern California where I competed on both the football and track teams and later earned the title of NCAA Track All American. I tore my ACL in 2005. Track coach took my scholarship while I was rehabbing. Had to move out of my apartment and get a job all on crutches. Lost a girlfriend and was told that I should think about transferring because the coach thought I would not make it back. That same coach decided not to redshirt me because he didn't think that I could make it back.2006 was the one of the best years of my life. Fought to get my scholarship back and started my college promotions company Trojan Man Entertainment. Trojan Man Entertainment or TME (www.TeamTME.com), an entertainment company that managed, promoted, and produced large private events for college campuses and other organizations. By acquiring and building relationships with music industry executives and campus leaders, I expanded the company network to over five universities in three states. In 2008, I graduated from USC with a bachelor's degree in Sociology and a minor in Business Advertisement and went on to work in the sales and marketing sector. After returning to San Diego in 2009 to work as a Financial Planner for Strategic Wealth Associates, I noticed a gap in the availability of meaningful networking opportunities, especially for young professionals and new entrepreneurs in the area. To bridge this gap, I founded and led Tasteful Tuesdays (http:/www.tastefultuesday.com), a monthly networking group and mixer that enables participants to connect with other professionals and increase their business through a structured, positive and professional word-of-mouth event. What does K-pop Demon Hunters, Encanto, Neurodivergent Creatives, and Eldest Daughters have in common you ask? If you guessed shame, pressure, and crushing generational expectations... then DING DING DING!! You are (unfortunately) correct and probably even relate to the emotional damage these characters went through. " Shame dies when you shine a light on it. Shame is like mold. It wants a dark, dank, nasty little place where it can take over everything. You can't do that. You can't leave an anaerobic environment for your shame or it'll crawl all over you." - Caitlin Liz FisherIn this special episode, Caitlin nerds out on the deep emotional power of music in storytelling and why these movies have banger songs that resonate so strongly with eldest daughters, perfectionists, and anyone who has ever felt “not enough.”Tune in if Surface Pressure, What Else Can I Do, Waiting on a Miracle, and Golden made you tear up a bit! You will learn:Why Encanto's songs feel like gut punches for eldest daughters and perfectionistsHow shame operates like mold and why exposing it to light dissolves its powerWhat K-Pop Demon Hunters teaches about vulnerability, authenticity, and letting others see the parts of us we usually hide.Practical “emotional homework” to help you reconnect with play, make imperfect art, and embrace your shadow self

"We Don't Talk About the Holy Spirit" | Why Jesus Said the Spirit Is Our Greatest AdvantageIs the Holy Spirit the most misunderstood person of the Trinity? In this powerful and personal teaching, Bible teacher Marian Jordan Ellis dives deep into what Jesus said about the Holy Spirit—and why it's time we stop avoiding this vital part of our faith.Using stories, Scripture, and humor (yes, including a memorable “Encanto” moment!), Marian breaks down the confusion many believers feel around the Holy Spirit and helps us see that He is not the “crazy uncle” of Christianity—but the very power of God dwelling in us.✅ What You'll Learn in this Teaching:Who the Holy Spirit is (and who He's not)Why Jesus called the Spirit our greatest advantage (John 16:7)How to receive and walk in the power of the Spirit (John 7:37–39)What Ezekiel and Acts tell us about the Spirit's transforming workHow to stop blocking the river of living water God wants to flow through you
It's almost Destination D23 weekend, but this year something's missing. For the first time in recent memory, there's no big Disney Parks panel and that changes everything. Normally this is the moment Disney fans gather for announcements and future park teases. Instead, we're left with a few scattered panels, a lot of questions, and just maybe a glimmer of hope for a Villains Land reveal. In this off-season episode, the Idiots dig into why Disney might be holding back, how last year's mixed reception could be shaping their strategy, and what the lack of a panel says about the relationship between the company and its fans. We also share our fantasy Parks Panel predictions, from safe bets to wild long shots, because even when the news is quiet the speculation is loud.Settle in and join us as we unpack what could have been or what may be.Send us a textSupport the showDon't forget to check us out on Instagram!
