About Laura: French Horn player, Laura Brenes began playing horn when she was 9 years old. She decided to give life as a professional musician a shot after being a part of the "Disney Collegiate All-Star Band" in 1999. After that, she studied with the legendary Vince DeRosa while obtaining her master's degree at the University of Southern California. While still in school, she began performing with local orchestras and various ensembles. She has been able to perform in numerous diverse musical situations. Some highlights include being a part of the orchestra for the academy awards, touring the world with groups including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, performing concerts with Danny Elfman at the Coachella music festival, and becoming a Guiness Book of World Records Record holder for being a part of the largest ever orchestra for a hip-hop concert. Over the years, the majority of her work has been in the recording studio where she can be heard on hundreds of soundtracks for all types of media. Among the titles are "Star Wars," "Oppenheimer," "West Side Story (2021)," "Frozen," "The Fablemans," "Turning Red," "Disenchanted," "Jungle Cruise," "Free Guy," "Encanto," "Avatar," "SpongeBob," "Inside Out," and many more. Laura has been solo principal horn for many projects including John Williams' series "Obi Wan (2022)." She released a solo album in 2015 entitled "a Time and a Place" which can be found on all platforms.

We're down to our last two films for Animation April, and tonight's tale is a real family affair - Disney's "Encanto!"

EPSA tiene el privilegio de presentar en exclusiva internacional mundial el último album de anti, que brotará al mundo el próximo 30 de Abril. Copio y pego la nota de prensa, que para eso me la han mandado: Qué extraña es la vida. Tito Pintado, aka Tito Dakota, ex cantante de Penélope Trip (gijoneses pioneros del indie español noventero) y Telefilme (dúo con David Rodríguez de La Bien Querida y La Estrella de David) publica en 1998 su primer álbum como anti en el sello Elefant. Después se tira once años callado. En 2009 sale su segundo álbum, “antiaventura” en el sello Federación de Universos Pop, y lo presenta en varios conciertos, abriendo para Single (grupo con el que colaboraba por aquella época), Klaus & Kinski y Emilio José. Nada parecía presagiar que iban a pasar otros once años hasta que publicase un nuevo trabajo. Y así fue, no pasaron once años. Pasaron dieciséis. En 2025, anti vuelve por sorpresa con “en américa” (séptimo mejor ep nacional para Rockdelux), el single de vinilo “infantil/islandia” para Discos Garibaldi y el ep digital “su electrónica”, con remezclas de Hidrogenesse, Encanto y Memorabilia. Y en 2026 llega “vendedor ambulante de estrellas va por la avenida de espuma de mar”, su primer álbum en diecisiete años, con un título que grita “¡¡¡ESCÚCHAME!!!”. Diez canciones, nueve propias y una etérea versión de “palmeras” de Single. Pop electrónico minimalista, experimental y psicodélico, en el que la marihuana debería llevarse un 30 por ciento de los royalties. Otro protagonista del disco es el delay, casi siempre envolviendo la voz de anti, repitiendo notas y creando dibujos en el aire; un efecto que quizás nunca se había usado tanto más allá del dub jamaicano. El viaje arranca en “tokiorama”, una montaña rusa de canción que se acelera y ralentiza, se estira y se deforma al antojo de su autor; pasa por la alucinógena “en el café edén” y su ritmo en morse; hace escala en el torbellino de colores de “su electrónica” (compuesta a medias con Encanto, alter ego de Luis Espanto) y en la psicofonía pop de “delia”, casi una sesión de espiritismo sonora a ritmo de… cascabel; después llega el “viaje melódico lleno de curvas y baches” (gracias, Nando Cruz) de “el cantante”, adelanto del álbum con su frenético vídeo (https://youtu.be/xPAHEzkH-Og?si=9Gykd-zm-DMAoNaR) homenajeando la cultura popular india, y que probablemente incluye la primera paradita para fumar de la historia del pop. El disco se cierra con “La canción de la guerra”, un tema sobre el odio, sobre si somos capaces (eso parece) de echar por tierra la belleza de este planeta solo por fastidiar al prójimo. En definitiva, “vendedor ambulante de estrellas va por la avenida de espuma de mar” es una alternativa a los que buscan algo diferente a las modas imperantes, a los triunfitos y artistas urbanos llena-wizinks que parecen creados por una IA, a las playlists tipo “Música para regar las plantas”, a los clichés que aburren a las piedras. Corre el peligro de pasar desapercibido entre el aluvión de novedades musicales, y más al no contar con el apoyo de un sello discográfico. Así que, por favor, reséñalo/pínchalo/recomiéndalo. Most stories frame conflict as something happening "out there"—a villain to defeat, an obstacle to overcome, or a problem to solve. But the most powerful character arcs aren't really about defeating the antagonist. They're about the protagonist reclaiming agency. In this episode, we explore the deeper difference between internal conflict vs. external conflict and why strong stories use external conflict not just to create tension, but to force meaningful inner change. We also look at how stories can unintentionally weaken their protagonists when they place too much emphasis on blaming the antagonist—and how the strongest character arcs instead move from projection to responsibility. Considered the island's most haunted locations, Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal are two fortresses that defended the island's sovereignty from invaders over the course of centuries. Puerto Rico, la cuarta isla más grande del Caribe, fue durante cuatro siglos uno de los baluartes más importantes de la corona española en América. A diferencia de la práctica totalidad de la América hispana, no participó en las guerras de independencia del siglo XIX. Se mantuvo primero como una capitanía general remota y luego como una provincia. En 1897, ya en plena guerra de Cuba, el gobierno español le otorgó la Carta Autonómica, un estatuto de autogobierno muy avanzado para la época. Pero aquello duró apenas unos meses, el estallido de la guerra con Estados Unidos puso fin repentina e inesperadamente a una prolongada y tranquila etapa de la historia de la isla. El 25 de julio de 1898 tropas estadounidenses desembarcaron en Guánica. Ese sería el comienzo de una ocupación militar que culminaría con la entrega de la isla. Con el Tratado de París España cedió formalmente un territorio que los nuevos dueños consideraban un botín de guerra. Tras dos años de control militar directo la Ley Foraker de 1900 estableció un gobierno civil que dependía por completo de Estados Unidos. Era de facto una colonia, algo inaceptable para un país como Estados Unidos que se habían sacudido el yugo colonial solo un siglo antes. El Tribunal Supremo tuvo que intervenir creando una singularidad jurídica. Puerto Rico pasaría a pertenecer, pero no formaría parte de Estados Unidos. En ese limbo los puertorriqueños se mantendrían durante años. Los planes que tenían en Washington para Puerto Rico pasaban por convertir la isla en una gigantesca plantación de azúcar controlada por empresas estadounidenses que se beneficiaban de una mano de obra abundante y barata. Con la Ley Jones de 1917 se concedió la ciudadanía estadounidense a sus habitantes y se intensificó una política de americanización acelerada. Los gobernadores, nombrados por el presidente, trataron de asimilar a los puertorriqueños suprimiendo la lengua española de la enseñanza y de la vida pública. Eso y la miseria en la que vivía la mayor parte de los puertorriqueños generó mucha resistencia y allanó el camino para que surgiesen movimientos nacionalistas como el de Pedro Albizu Campos. Albizu cuestionaba abiertamente la soberanía estadounidense. Estaba convencido de que la lucha armada seguida de una revolución era el único camino posible. Terminó en la cárcel y los nacionalistas fueron puestos fuera de la ley. A finales de los años 30 emergió la figura de Luis Muñoz Marín y su Partido Popular Democrático, que, partiendo del independentismo, proponía una solución pragmática a los problemas de la isla. Con el apoyo del gobierno de Roosevelt y el impulso de la Operación Manos a la Obra, Puerto Rico fue abandonando el monocultivo azucarero y se industrializó con gran rapidez gracias a una serie de incentivos fiscales para las empresas estadounidenses. Esas reformas alumbraron una nueva clase media pero también provocaron la emigración de muchos puertorriqueños hacia ciudades como Nueva York. Ya en 1952, tras reprimir la revolución nacionalista de 1950, se proclamó el Estado Libre Asociado. Este nuevo estatus permitió a la isla tener su propia constitución y un autogobierno muy amplio. Ese fue el origen del Puerto Rico actual, un país un tanto peculiar, a caballo entre dos mundos, que tras medio siglo viviendo peligrosamente, supo conservar su idioma, su cultura y sus costumbres frente al país más poderoso del mundo. Ya sólo por eso lo de Puerto Rico, que es conocida como la isla del Encanto, debería llamarse la isla del milagro.
