This week, the Disneyland 70th has officially arrived, we talk about all the new things, a missing feature of Adventureland has returned, an alien has been a menace at Disneyland, changes to the Animation Academy, we talk about our upcoming trip to the parks and other destinations this time, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: The Disneyland 70th finally kicked off on Friday. While the lines for merchandise, 70th experiences, and food were longer than usual, the lines for attractions were very off-season feeling. Rise of the Resistance had a 35 minute standby wait at 4pm, and Space Mountain had a 40 minute wait. – https://www.micechat.com/415359-disneyland-update-celebrate-70-and-build-a-better-tomorrowland/ The 70th castle sculpture in the esplanade revealed an interesting twist this week – it is a music box! At least that is what is sounds like. Different, music box versions of Disney songs play throughout the day for passing guests. – https://www.micechat.com/415359-disneyland-update-celebrate-70-and-build-a-better-tomorrowland/ The new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live show has debuted in the Disney Theatre in Disney California Adventure. The new show is a big upgrade from the last show in the theatre, and is still geared towards younger kids, with seating on the floor only. The show features characters, bubbles, snow, disco lighting, and more. Unlike the previous show, Mickey and Minnie are present throughout the show. – https://www.micechat.com/415359-disneyland-update-celebrate-70-and-build-a-better-tomorrowland/ After over two years, a part of Adventureland has returned in a different form. The Adventureland restrooms across from the entrance to the land have finally lost the not very temporary wall. The wall was put up over two years ago to cover the damage from a burst water pipe. The new wall features some plants, a highly-themed water fountain, and a dividing wall that matches the nearby building. – https://www.micechat.com/415359-disneyland-update-celebrate-70-and-build-a-better-tomorrowland/ The new live action Lilo & Stitch movie is coming to theaters on May 23rd, and Stitch has stopped by Disneyland to celebrate. Stitch came and had a busy day at the parks, but left behind evidence he was there. A Stitch-themed window has been taken over outside the Emporium. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/stitch-crash-lands-at-disneyland-for-70th-celebration/ Fans of the Animation Academy unite! New clips that play in the large screens around the main lobby area have been added and include “Coco,” “Princess and the Frog,” “Moana,” “Soul,” “Zootopia,” and “Encanto.” Some clips from “Lady and the Tramp,” “Pinocchio,” and “Frozen” were removed to make room. – https://www.micechat.com/415359-disneyland-update-celebrate-70-and-build-a-better-tomorrowland/ SnackChat: Magic Key Terrace – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/magic-key-terrace/menus/ Wine Country Trattoria – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/wine-country-trattoria/menus/ Sonoma Terrace – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/sonoma-terrace/menus/ Discussion Topic: Tage and Teresa's Trip to Disneyland and the Disneyana Event

The landscape of Walt Disney World is shifting dramatically, with major transformations coming to every park. From Dinoland USA becoming a vibrant Central Americas-themed land featuring Encanto and Indiana Jones, to Tom Sawyer Island making way for a Cars attraction, these changes represent Disney's evolving approach to park experiences. We dive deep into what these transformations mean for the Disney experience, exploring the tension between nostalgic attractions and Disney's push toward more recognizable intellectual properties. The upcoming Villains Land behind Big Thunder Mountain promises thrilling new experiences without replacing existing attractions, while Hollywood Studios will soon feature a Monsters Inc land with an innovative suspended coaster based on the door conveyor system from the beloved film. These changes raise important questions: Is Disney losing some of its original magic by replacing unique Imagineering creations with movie tie-ins? Or is this evolution necessary to compete with Universal's Epic Universe and appeal to younger generations? We consider whether the Disney experience has improved or declined since 2019, discussing the loss of beloved perks like Magical Express and free FastPass while acknowledging the exciting new attractions on the horizon. We also share our upcoming plans to test the new Multi-Pass system during our next trip, estimating we'll spend around $500 extra for our family of four to access all premium ride options. Will the convenience justify the cost? Is the Free Dining package actually saving money when factoring in required add-ons like Park Hopper tickets? These practical considerations reflect the changing economics of a Disney vacation in today's landscape.Whether you're a Disney purist concerned about these changes or excited to experience the new attractions, this episode provides thoughtful perspective on what Walt Disney World's transformation means for different types of visitors. This episode provides a powerful and heartbreaking account of growing up within the restrictive and often damaging environment of Jehovah's Witnesses. Carol Anne's story highlights the immense pressure of maintaining a generational heritage, the severe consequences of shunning, and the prevalence of abuse and trauma within families intertwined with the organization. The organization's handling of serious issues like grooming and molestation, often prioritizing internal control over reporting to authorities, is a significant point of concern. Carol Anne's experience of living a double life, suppressing her identity, and the limited social and educational opportunities are clear consequences of the JW lifestyle. Despite the profound challenges and betrayals she faced, particularly from her family, Carol Anne's journey towards deconstruction, healing, and building healthy relationships offers a hopeful conclusion, emphasizing the possibility of breaking negative cycles and finding genuine happiness outside of the organization. The narrative serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of authoritarian religious control and the importance of individual agency and self-acceptance. Once the highest-grossing animated film of all time and certainly a cultural phenomenon that revived Disney with a hefty almost "re-renaissance" as Michael puts it, 2013's Frozen is a trope-subverting musical-movie that had the entire world belting "LET IT GOOOOOOOO" in both appropriate and inappropriate social settings...so why did it take us 185 episodes to finally bring it to the couch? The movie is good, and has a pretty wild twist that was novel for its time, but it isn't a perfect movie either, and experiences some missteps in its villian, consistency, and narrative that newer musical-movie entries like Moana and Encanto deftly avoid. Does this film stand the test of time? Should the gang see Disney on Ice? Does Olaf get worse or better in Frozen 2? Guess you'll have to listen to our discussion to find out. Johanna was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Her story encompasses a childhood marked by secret abuse, a home environment with a dangerous and alcoholic father, and what could be considered a shocking and early marriage, ultimately leading to her being shunned by the Jehovah's Witnesses. • Secret Abuse: Johanna was molested by an older cousin for about a year and a half when she was around 8 or 9 years old. This was kept a family secret, and she was told not to tell anyone, not even her father. Her mother, upon finding out, questioned Johanna in a blaming way, asking “Why did you let him do that to you?”. This incident highlights a significant secret abuse that Johanna endured without adequate support or protection from her family. • A Dangerous Dad: Johanna's father is described as an alcoholic who became increasingly violent as she got older. There were instances where he would smash things, break into the house after being locked out, and Johanna would overhear him threatening to kill the entire family. The family would sometimes leave for short periods due to his violence, but were discouraged from permanently leaving by elders in the congregation. Ultimately, her father died by suicide using a homemade gun, and Johanna believed his plan involved killing the entire family as he had six bullets for six family members. This paints a picture of a dangerous father who created a volatile and fear-filled home environment. • A Shocking Marriage: Johanna got engaged at 15 or 16 and married at 17 to a 22-year-old fellow Jehovah's Witness. This occurred partly as an escape from her difficult home life, as her mother and stepfather did not want her there. The circumstances surrounding the engagement, where her mother suggested marriage as a solution to them being forbidden to talk, and the young age of Johanna, particularly within a non-Witness context, could be considered shocking. Johanna herself acknowledges her naivety about relationships due to her sheltered upbringing. • But Johanna is shunned by Jehovah's Witnesses. Today she shares her story for herself and for her son that was featured on a previous episode. As a truck driven by 23-year-old Sagon Penn pulled into a driveway on a quiet street in Encanto, they were followed by two police cars. What happened next would leave one officer dead, another officer and a civilian ride along severely injured, a young man in a years long legal limbo and a city reeling. Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that absolutely under no circumstances would ever talk about Bruno, no, no, no. This week we are rewinding the clock to when Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hung out with actor Jessica Darrow (@jessdarrow_) to talk about the myriad of reasons why Disney's 2021 animated musical Encanto Should've Been Gay. When you think of queerness and Encanto the first character to come to mind is probably Jess's character Luisa, the hunky beefcake older sister with a heart of gold. And yea, obviously she's gay, but we'd argue that Luisa is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the queerness of Encanto. From the magic “miracle” powers bestowed on each member of the Madrigal family to the colorful, rainbow-filled casita where they reside, this film is practically overflowing with queer energy. There's Camilo, a shapeshifter who frequently changes gender; Bruno, the misunderstood outcast who just wanted to be accepted by his family; Mirabelle, the main character whose coming out didn't quite go as planned; and of course Isabela, the “perfect” (closeted femme) sister who is hiding her true self out of fear of ending up rejected like Bruno. One thing is for sure, Encanto Should've Been Gay. Remember, you can give us your own answers to our Q & Gay on Instagram and follow along on Facebook, TikTok, and BlueSky @lezhangoutpod.  Find your fav tol and smol hosts Ellie & Leigh at @elliebrigida and @lshfoster. My daughter Freya and I recently re-watched the Disney movie Encanto. While the movie is full of amazing songs, ‘We Don't Talk About Bruno' is a stand-out - and it inspired this week's POWERFUL episode of Soul Guide Radio! If you haven't seen Encanto (and you should!), it's about a girl named Mirabel whose family lives in a magical house. The house has blessed each child born there - except for Mirabel - with a special spiritual gift. Mirabel's uncle Bruno received the gift of precognition… and is shunned by the family for his psychic visions. That's right… even in a family full of magical people, Bruno's gift made people uncomfortable - or even frightened! Mirabel is told that Bruno was ostracized because his “heavy gift” left the family “grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand.”  Bruno's family feared his gift because they interpreted his visions as malicious prophecies. But here's the thing…When you receive a psychic hit about an upcoming challenge, it's not because the Divine is trying to scare you. It's because the Divine is trying to help you PREPARE for it - or even avoid manifesting it altogether! In this week's episode, I explore WHY we don't want to talk about Bruno, reveal the TRUE power of psychic hits, and show why this incredible gift is NOT something to be feared! Listen now to discover: How your intuitive hits can allow you to pre-heal for challenges on the horizonThe first thing you should do when you receive an intuitive insight about somebody elseAn invitation that will have you growing more comfortable about expressing your unique gifts - so that you can create a beautiful ripple effect in the people around you!Timestamps:00:00 Intro01:42 Introduction to Encanto04:03 The Story of Bruno06:26 Understanding Psychic Hits08:18 Healing and Preparing for Challenges10:52 The Witch Wound and Psychic Gifts19:35 The Power of High Vibrational Energy21:43 InvitationLinks Mentioned:Episode #142: Healing the Witch WoundDid you know that all the answers about your soul experience are inside of you? A través de sus historias, descubrimos cómo las dinámicas familiares pueden ser tanto una fuente de crecimiento como un obstáculo para la libertad personal.¿Somos prisioneros de las expectativas familiares o encontramos en ellas el sentido que nos impulsa? In 2024, Judy released her book, "The Hidden Power in Your DNA." She's also published "Decoding Your Emotional Blueprint," and you can get more information about placing an order on her website. The information is below.Judy immediately told me that she's not one that doesn't love her mother. She and her mother are very close and she can't say enough great things about her experience as a child. Shirley  created a wonderful  environment to experience as a child. "Her parents were strict but loving. Judy says she knew what her boundaries were in terms of not just outward but inward.  I never felt like it was so strict, I couldn't breathe. I knew what discipline looked like." Shirley used to say "if you're going to do something, do it properly or don't bother." And Judy interprets that by saying, "there's a whole bunch of magic in doing something really, really well.  Invest in yourself and it makes soul magic. Investing in yourself through that process, it makes soul magic."Judy goes on to describe how when her mum was working in the garden, she put her two daughter's in a wheelbarrow when they were little girls. Shirley lined the wheelbarrow with a blanket and filled it with snacks, drinks, books and things to play with and it is to this day one of Judy's fondest memories. Again, Shirley always created magic.Judy loves everything Disney, again because it's magical. And Judy suggests you "watch Encanto and Frozen because you are the magic, you are the imagineer, you are the one who can make it happen. You are the creator of what's possible."As we were saying goodbye to one another, Judy professed, "mothers are amazing. "And  every single gift your mother ever gave you was meant for you, because it grows you the way that you can be and only you can be, don't forget it. Even when the gift doesn't look great."Hope you enjoy the episode. There's so many more wonderful stories about Judy, her mother and Judy's step daughter and their loving relationship. Welcome to The Family Madrigal, and the Surface Pressure hiding underneath the perfect façade of a magical family with wonderful gifts - everyone except Mirabel. Who probably wonders "What Else Can I Do?" on the regular, when her Abuela seems to blame her for everything. All Of You probably know the intergenerational trauma this movie perfectly depicts, but it's also a movie that took the time to show deep love and respect for Colombia, mi encanto. By having a Colombian Cultural Trust, and directors willing to take on suggestions and ideas, to make Encanto diverse and representative of real Colombian life, traditions and culture.Tuns out, Stephanie Beatriz was also Waiting on a Miracle, while recording that exact song.We Don't Talk About Bruno, except we do. Because Bruno is one of the most complex and interesting characters in this movie. And while Abuela has suffered great loss, become a refugee and a single parent to triplets in the space of one day, beautifully encapsulated by the Academy Award-nominated Dos Orugitas, she's also making her entire family suffer through her own anxiety and trauma.Basically Encanto is pretty special, and it's one of Disney's greatest modern animated films because of it.And that's why coffee's for grown-ups!I would love to hear your thoughts on Encanto !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast! Send us a textThis week Bryan and Stewart don't have a plan, but do talk about some great topics. Like Disney's response to Epic Universe. We start with a conversation about Star Wars, Rey, Kylo Ren and what Disney has done with it. We mention the Acolyte as we talk the Disney+ shows and how they fit in. Bryan's a Homer and will take anything Star Wars but Stewart feels a little differently. We even talk about Andor and the dark grittiness of that show.Next we get into Epic Universe, that new park opening soon over at Universal Studios. More importantly we talk about the idea of a fifth gate at Walt Disney World and if they should have one. We definitely get into the announcements of Cars and Villains, the new Encanto area at Animal Kingdom and the Muppets and Monster, Inc. in Hollywood Studios. We'll tell you how we feel about these announcements, the fifth gate idea and whether they made the right decision. Our conversation turns to Disney+ and the hopeful success we want from all of their streaming platforms. Finally, we'll weirdly segue into talk around the Green Bay Packers and living in Wisconsin. Make sure you hit that subscribe button so you know when there are new episodes.
