Beyond Regret: How Our Biggest Mistakes Shape Our Best Selves

The Success Blueprint with Daniel Craig Johnson

In this inspiring episode of the Success Blueprint, I'll delve deep into the universal emotion of regret and how it can serve as a catalyst for personal growth and transformation. Regrets, whether from childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, midlife, or senior years, are a part of the human experience, but they don't have to define us. Join me as I explore how to turn regret into wisdom and use it as a stepping stone toward a brighter future.Key Takeaways:Regret as a Universal Emotion: Everyone experiences regret at some point in life. It's a natural part of being human, and it serves a purpose in prompting self-reflection and personal growth.Learning from Childhood Regrets: Our early regrets in childhood teach us valuable lessons about moderation, honesty, and resilience. They shape us in profound ways and help us develop empathy and problem-solving skills.Dealing with Adolescent Regrets: The teenage years are often marked by impulsive decisions and peer pressure. Regrets from this period can be transformed into opportunities for growth and resilience. Learning from these experiences can help us stand up for our values.Navigating Young Adult Regrets: In young adulthood, relationships and career choices can lead to regrets. These experiences are valuable in helping us understand our needs and desires. They can be used as a foundation for building healthier relationships and pursuing fulfilling careers.Reflecting on Midlife Regrets: As we reach midlife, we may look back at the roads not taken. Regrets over missed opportunities can be reframed as opportunities for self-discovery and new possibilities. Learn from these regrets and find ways to incorporate your values into your present.Senior Regrets and Missed Opportunities: As we grow older, we may regret not taking certain chances. It's never too late to seize new opportunities and make the most of life. Live boldly, pursue your dreams, and let go of past regrets.Coping with Regret: To cope with regret, it's essential to accept what happened, learn and grow from the experience, look ahead, forgive yourself, and make amends when necessary. Regret can be a powerful catalyst for personal growth and change.Turning Regret Into Wisdom: Regret can be reframed into wisdom by seeking valuable lessons from past mistakes. Viewing regret as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement can help transform it into a positive force in your life.Share Your Story: Sharing your regrets with trusted individuals can help alleviate feelings of shame and isolation. Remember that everyone makes mistakes, and hearing others' stories can inspire you on your journey of personal growth. The Power of Regret: Regret is a reflection of how much you care about your choices and the impact they have on your life. Embrace your regrets, use them as a source of motivation, and take action to create a life filled with meaning, joy, and purpose.Join me in this episode as I explore the transformative power of regret and how it can be harnessed to shape your best self and a brighter future. Don't let regret hold you back; use it as a stepping stone towards a life of growth and fulfillment.Support the Show.Contact me:Daniel@mindsworx.comwww.mindworx.bizInstagram: @Mindworx_Coaching

On today's episode I am speaking with Stephanie Bacon. Stephanie is a passionate and fun-loving human who wants to share the freedom of a life authentically lived with all who are yearning for peace and connection. Her path includes 20+ years as an educator, 18 years of mothering, a Master's degree in curriculum and instruction, academic coaching certification, a stint as the teacher's union president, a divorce (there should be a certification for this), and several drafts of a rewrite on her life. She is currently finishing her PhD by researching the impact of teacher emotional and relational health and authenticity on teacher and student relationships.  As a teacher, she is dedicated to reducing friction (work loads, to-do lists, external demands) for educators, so they allow their unique gifts to be the driver of dynamic and deep learning. Stephanie knows that kids need social and emotional learning in addition to academic growth to take advantage of what this world has to offer them, but that learning starts with a teacher who is emotionally healthy and relationally skillful. She believes in the power of humans, young and old, to use their creativity to solve our most challenging problems when they are free from the efforts of shape-shifting to meet the expectations of others.

So many of our listeners and clients have often asked us, "How did you do it? How did you create your dream life?" The short answer is: By releasing everything that was keeping us from it. This episode dives into how we began on the journey of expansion, the investments we made in ourselves, and what actually moved the needle forward after spending over half a million dollars on personal and spiritual development.Reflecting on this has been so beautiful for us because it's easy to forget how much work we've done to be able to say with truth, "I am living my dream life." For years before we began healing together in friendship, we tried every additive process that you can think of. Reading every book, trying every manifestation method, and fearfully trying to control the process. Our attempts at manifestation back then were rooted in lack and it was only when we began to truthfully look in the mirror at ourselves and acknowledge the scarcity mindset and limits we picked up from our conditioning that we could begin to actively re-write them. The journey of becoming our most radically loving, "best" selves was not through adding things externally but was through releasing fear, guilt, shame, and smallness internally. The journey was an INSIDE-OUT process. It was in challenging every thought we ever believed about ourselves until finally we realized that we had the power and consciousness to CHOOSE who we want to become, rather than being puppets to a system that wasn't serving us.At the end of the episode, we share for the very time that we are finally putting together EVERYTHING we have learned into an immersive, 6 month mastermind for you fellow "cycle-breakers." Garcia has navigated through domestic violence, privacy, safety, vulnerability, and the mindset to endure personal adverse events in life. Her survival of a double attempted homicide while 8 months pregnant (by the father) and the desperation to survive became the catalyst to the creation of Be Your Incredible Self (BYIS) while achieving an undisputed outlook of independence. Her personal journey of post traumatic growth has led A. to dedicating her life in developing transformational programs, various forms of coaching, certification courses and establishing a nonprofit to help real time victims. Her commitment is to provide lifelong transformational habits that can restore your powerful internal sense of control.  Today, she prides herself on meeting the daily challenges of being vulnerable and safe at the same time while empowering others to Be Your Incredible Self. Devan and Kaytlan Briney bonded over their shared experiences, having come from similar backgrounds. Their conversation began with the day Kaytlan embarked on her Burn Boot Camp journey, weighing 300 lbs. As soon as she walked into the gym, Kaytlan felt like she had found her home. The encouragement to do something for herself motivated her to become the Lead Trainer at Burn Boot Camp Rock Hill. Kaytlan had played Division 1 softball in the past, but after having children, she struggled with her identity, questioning who she was if she wasn't an athlete or a mom. Devan and Kaytlan engaged in a feedback loop, discussing their shared interests in education and sports during their high school years. Kaytlan had overcome abusive relationships, injuries, and other obstacles before finally realizing that she deserved more, as did her children. Devan opened up about his own past and the pivotal moment when he decided that he too deserved more. Kaytlan acknowledges the individuals who have supported her throughout her journey - the Principal, coaches, franchise partners - and she now strives to reciprocate their kindness by empowering others. Despite facing chronic disrespect from her community in the past, she now serves as a leader to a group of strong, empowered women. The reversal is remarkable. So, press play today and start thinking about how you can become the best version of yourself. Take ownership of your decisions and your life, and keep moving forward. There's no secret it's been a wild couple of years. From the COVID lockdowns, loss, loneliness, racial tensions and trauma, rioting, sexual abuse explosion, election mess, race for a vaccine, the vaccine rollout, big tech suppression, censorship, Afghanistan, Ukraine, inflation, money stress, parental rights challenges, abortion/life battles, Fentanyl/Substance abuse crisis, rash of shootings, crime explosion, transgender identity and ideology storm, the midterm elections, etc... We now have a mental health disaster going on. People are exhausted and emotionally shot with stress and anxiety, depression, and even suicidality, especially among our kids, soaring to heights we've never seen. Most are angry, confused, and searching for help, hope, and encouragement. Even more, before the pandemic, statistics showed that nearly 1 in 5 (20%) people live with a mental illness in their lifetime, but now rates of nearly every mental health category have skyrocketed. Therefore, in response to the craziness and chaos we've been experiencing around the world, we here at the Built Different Podcast wanted to acknowledge and recognize the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month by embarking on a Mental Health Awareness Series where we will be having conversations with several mental/emotional health experts to shed light on the challenges and difficulties many face while also encouraging and equipping our listeners with practical tips and strategies we can begin implementing to increase our mental and brain hygiene. That being said, joining us today to kick off this series is a renowned and leading Licensed Professional Counselor, Speaker, Teacher, and incredible Author, Dr. Mark Mayfield. In today's episode Dr. Mayfield briefly shares his impactful testimony as well as takes a deep dive into his new book that will be releasing next week on May 9th, titled The Path to Wholeness: Managing Emotions, Finding Healing, and Becoming Our Best Selves. This conversation will remind you of the importance of embracing, experiencing, and expressing your emotions as well as viewing them as invitations or indicators from the Lord. Walt Morgan is a retired Navy Commander and Navy helicopter pilot, and he's also the founder of Translational Lift Coaching, where he works with individuals and teams to help them reach their full potential. Walt's wide-ranging background as a leader, teacher, student, and parent gives him a unique approach to helping people identify what they are doing well, what they could be doing better, and how to make subtle-yet-powerful adjustments that can lead to lasting change. - Walt grew up in rural Oregon, where agriculture and working lands were an important part of his upbringing. He attended college on a military scholarship, graduated, and began flying helicopters for the Navy. After 23 rewarding years of service, Walt retired from the Navy and made his way into corporate America, where he quickly discovered his talent and passion for coaching. Today, Walt has combined his innate skills as a coach with his deep desire to help people, and he's created a meaningful second act to his already impressive career. - I have had the great fortune of being coached by Walt for many years now, and I credit him and his guidance with helping me to identify the beliefs and ideas that are serving me well and to discard those that created friction. As you'll hear in this conversation, several of the insights I gained from Walt's coaching are what led me to leave the real estate business and fully focus on the purpose-driven work of conservation and this podcast. While I generally avoid blabbing about myself in these conversations, I feel that my personal experience with Walt speaks to the power of the work he does on a daily basis with many, many people. - Walt and I sat down at my dining room table and had a fun conversation about his life and career, including: Walt's upbringing in rural Oregon; his decision to join the military; lessons learned from helicopters, deployments, and decades of service; his experience on the morning of 9/11 and his work in the aftermath; discovering his love of teaching; harnessing youthful wild energy into something productive; becoming a coach; the difference between coaching and therapy; the Enneagram and Integral Coaching methodology; favorite books and music; and much more. - A big thanks to Walt for taking the time to chat and for his guidance over the years.
