We Could Not Resist That Call is episode 31 of The Tale and The Tongue, which follows a conversation Laurence Rassel, a “cyberfeminist” and Sonia Fernández Pan, the host of this podcast. “I saw Laurence at Feministaldia in San Sebastián at the end of 2025. She talked about something she calls an open-source institution. Just as we should understand the machines we use by opening them up and seeing what they are made of, we should open institutions to understand how they really work. The question of privilege came up in conversation with Laurence Rassel. Summarizing certain forms of dissent as a privilege is also a way of dismissing the fact that we still have some agency in what we do. Not everyone understands success in the same way, nor does everyone share the same motivations or aspirations. Persisting in these differences is important, precisely to avoid a monopoly of desire. This conversation with Laurence Rassel took place at the end of January 2026. I suggested a trip back in time, to how things were in the 1990s with regard to the internet and the promises of technology. At the end of our meeting, we returned once again to 2003. “I don't want to be alone in the 21st century,” is something Laurence said back then. When Royston’s daughter Hannah suffered a brain bleed that resulted in a coma, he and his family repeatedly turned to God in prayer. Over months of waiting they clung to each other—and to God. The family’s faith awakened, as Royston reflected: “Never has God felt closer.” Throughout the ordeal, they were given “a renewal of faith to persist in prayer” like the “widow of Luke 18.” Royston referred to Jesus’ story about a widow who continually sought justice from the town’s official, which He gave to illustrate “that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1). This woman appealed repeatedly to the judge, who in weariness finally relented. Jesus contrasted that uncaring judge with God, saying, “Will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?” (v. 7). Although Jesus’ story addresses an unjust judge, the family members felt spurred on by it to pray for Hannah, asking the truly just and loving God for relief and help. They found themselves being drawn ever closer to Him: “As we seek God . . . it’s almost as if we’re the ones really waking up from our slumber.” After many months, Hannah woke from the coma and is slowly recovering. When we draw close to God, He hears our requests and answers according to His grace. He invites us to cry out to Him day or night.

In this episode of the Psychedelic Medicine Podcast, Keith Kurlander, MA, LPC, joins to discuss the important topic of integration practices for challenging psychedelic experiences. Keith is the Co-Founder of the Integrative Psychiatry Institute, the largest professional education company specializing in integrative mental health and psychedelic therapy. In this conversation, Keith begins by exploring the different types of challenging psychedelic experiences and various lingering effects one may experience following a difficult psychedelic journey. He discusses these from a trauma-informed perspective, explaining how a traumatized nervous system can lead to dissociation on the other side of an intense ego-disrupting experience. Keith also shares practices and insights from internal family systems (IFS) for integrating challenging psychedelic experiences. So once we are totally overwhelmed, we have to work our way back out gracefully, but as we are doing that, you get a gem as you are coming back… you learn something as you are coming out of that state.” [18:02] “If people have a psychotic disorder that emerged after their psychedelic use, you need a psychiatrist at that point… If it's really a psychotic emergence, whether a previous psychotic disorder got triggered or whatever, you need a psychiatrist to work with you on that.” [20:07] “I believe all these mental health conditions have a trauma process underneath them. I don't know how you isolate a trauma process from a mental health condition” [25:30] “It's about working with a person's meaning-making structure: is the meaning they're making creating more psychological flexibility or less psychological flexibility?
