This week's Local Selection Mix comes from Belfast born, Berlin based talent AOIFE. Fresh off the back of a debut in Tresor, AOIFE has supplied a 90 minute thriller full of twists and turns from groove, loops, bloops, EBM and slamming techno. DJ, event promoter, international publicist and label manager- AOIFE has confirmed her own place in Europe's dance music community. The Belfast born, Berlin based talent has firmly integrated herself amongst a variety of parties, starting a residency with Germany's Ravescape and having regular appearances with UK party starters Ape-X. AOIFE has formed an unapologetic approach to DJ sets, focusing on the sounds of untamed techno, driving electro, ebm and dance floor euphoria. The self-taught DJ has already appeared on notable platforms like Rinse FM, RTE Pulse & Kanal 6. After being tipped as ‘One To Watch‘ on Behind The Decks in 2020, AOIFE made a move to Berlin and has continued on an accelerated progression, rubbing shoulders on line ups with the likes of VTSS, Manni Dee, Keepsakes & O.B.I. at clubs including Tresor, Khidi Club, Suicide Club, Digital & World Headquarters, Rote Sonne in cities such as Newcastle – England, Amman – Jordan and Berlin & Munich – Germany & Tbilisi – Georgia. With a profound multifaceted ability, AOIFE strives to develop and mature her sound amongst the Berlin music scene, as she joins Percussive Agency. The future burns bright bright for this rising talent. This is a mix of different tracks, moments, moods and sounds that I've been playing over the last while. I'm preferring longer sets at the moment and getting the chance to build on energies so that's why this one has an extra half hour to a 60'minute podcasts as normal. Expect a bit of everything from groove, loops, bloops, EBM and slamming techno. We hand the controls over to Mark Davis, aptly named ‘darkmavis’ today, as the 24 year old Dublin based DJ and producer soundtracks our Wednesday afternoon. darkmavis is a Dublin Digital Radio resident and the co-founder of Dublin based collectives Crane Club and the Common Ground, which also recently expanded to forming their own imprint, named ‘Talamh Records’ (Irish Language for Grounded). He primarily produces experimental electronic music with influences taken from a variety of genres such as hardcore, experimental pop, gabber, techno, trance, club and jungle, reflecting in his playing styles, which he comfortably switches between during sets. His show, ’Donuts’ on Dublin Digital Radio, a platform which he started up as a monthly space to showcase forward thinking electronic music, featuring mixes and chat from himself and special guest DJs. As well as his own show, Mark has been heard on the Irish airwaves of RTE Pulse’s ‘Wriggle Show’ and ‘Gaff Party with DJ Sharpson’, Phever Radio and Dublin Digital Radio’s ‘Play Nice with sohotsospicy’ and ‘Choki Biki Radio’. Today we premiere Sharpson’s new track 50808. Releasing today in aid of Pieta House as a homage to The Prodigy’s late Keith Flint on the second anniversary of his death, who was one of Sharpson’s biggest influences. Sharpson, no stranger to the Irish club scene, has decided to release his latest track ‘50808’ today, two year's after Keith Flint devastatingly passed away. Keith Flint was a massive inspiration to him, particularly his live performances which inspires him to channel a similar passion, energy and fierceness on stage. Sharpson has successfully conveyed this energy with his extensive music career, from his iconic performances at the ‘Granny’s Gaff stage at Electric Picnic’, to his on-air energy on his radio residencies on DDR and RTE Pulse with his shows ‘Choki Biki’ and 'Gaff Party'. More recently, he launched his own ‘Choki Biki’ imprint earlier this year with both a digital and vinyl VA release with Decorum, High Fidelity, Cedarwood State Trax and more. There is certainly no slowing down for him. His new track ‘50808’, which we premiere today, treads the line between club banger and euphoric anthem. It’s bass heavy, distorted percussion and synths would definitely be at home in a gritty Dublin club like Wigwam. This is contrasted by the track’s rich melody, which you would find in an uplifting trance track. His experience as a composer and songwriter combined with electronic music producer shines through in this sombre track. 100% of the track’s proceeds from Bandcamp sales will go to Pieta House, an organisation which helps those struggling with mental health issues and suicide prevention. The track acts as a homage to Keith Flint two years on from his devastating death from suicide. The release aims to remind people of the numbers they can call for help when they are struggling, ‘50808’ which is a free 24/7 text service in Ireland, providing everything from a calming chat to support for people going through a mental health or emotional crisis, no matter how big or small. Find out more here. Sadly, so many people are in this situation due to the uncertainty of the times we are living in and we need to look after ourselves and our loved ones. Keep this charity release in mind for tomorrow. Bandcamp waive their fee’s for artists on the first Friday of every month to support artists during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has proved an immeasurable support system to so many artists since the pandemic all began one year ago. Scott De Buitléir was the presenter of The Cosmo, a show for the LGBT community, on RTE Pulse for six and half years until he recently announced his departure.Part of the reason for that was the upcoming marriage referendum and how the requirement for balance from the state broadcaster was at odds with his show. We discuss the reasons for that decision, his work in radio for the likes of Spin 1038, Raidió na Gaeltachta and others as well as coming out as a teenager, his hopes for the referendum this Friday and lots more. You can follow Scott on Twitter @ScottDeBuitleir - and check out EILE Magazine.
