You've commissioned an analysis to understand the dynamics for women and young people to build a better program, and the results are disappointing. They're too general, too high-level, too obvious. They're accurate, but not useful. What went wrong? Well--you're not alone. MOST of the implementers in the Gender and Youth Activity have the same experience--gender analyses are often disappointing because we do them wrong. What's the solution? Get more focused, have managers involved in the whole process, and get the team involved in learning, instead of hoping that a consultant can do the learning for you. Great learning from Hope Schaitkin, Michelle Lemeur, and Savannah Smith from the Gender and Youth Activity. She was later found brutally murdered in a nearby town. Thankfully, her soulless killer will remain behind bars and out of society for the remainder of his life. But we can never truly feel at peace knowing he stole Savannah's life too soon. This was such a fun episode! This week I got the chance to sit down with some friends of mine who lead worship at our church here in Bowling Green, Crossland Community Church. Aside from leading worship, last year they started a group at our church called “The Kall,” and the goal has been to bring 18-30 somethings together and build a community. We talked about how they got the idea for this and why there’s such a need for a community in this age bracket, as well as what we see God doing with our generation and what some of the biggest challenges are that we are facing as a generation. I know in Evansville Emily and I felt there was a need for a church group that targeted young adults into their 30s. That's exactly what this group is going for. It was such an uplifting and encouraging conversation and I love the fire that my church has for God and this community and I love the way these guys are approaching this new year in terms of building a community. If you live in the Bowling Green area and are in the 18-30 something age range, The Kall starts back up on Jan. 27 and goes every other Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Crossland Community Church. Please come! Links If you've got any questions, shoot me an email at coleclaybourn@gmail.com or on Instagram.
