Ben Fuhriman is a lifelong Idahoan who believes in hard work, family, and service. Born and raised in Ammon, Ben learned early what it means to roll up his sleeves and get things done. As a kid, his dad wouldn't let him go play until he'd filled a bucket with rocks from the garden—so Ben convinced his friends to help. Even then, he understood that teamwork and leadership go hand in hand. That work ethic carried him through life. An Eagle Scout, Hillcrest High School valedictorian, and a “Do it. Do it right. Do it right now.” kind of guy, Ben has always been driven to solve problems and help others succeed. He worked his way through school, served a two-year mission in Brazil, earned his bachelor's degree from BYU-Idaho, and a master's degree in family financial planning from Montana State University. He and his wife, Holli, met on the campaign trail while they were students at BYU-Idaho. Today, they live in Shelley with their four kids—all proud Idaho students.Professionally, Ben is a Certified Financial Planner™, Accredited Financial Counselor™, and Behavioral Financial Advisor™. He owns his own firm and every day helps local families and business owners make smart financial decisions and build stronger futures. As your current State Representative, Ben has brought that same pragmatic approach to the Idaho Legislature—fighting for fiscal responsibility, stronger families, and the Idaho values that make our communities thrive. Whether it's protecting taxpayers, supporting education, or defending personal freedom, Ben has worked to make sure Idaho stays the best place to live, work, and raise a family.Ben Fuhriman is running for re‑election because there's more work to do—and he's ready to keep delivering results that serve Idaho families first.Victory Over Sin is a show hosted by Mark Renick that addresses issues pertaining to returning citizens and the challenges they face coming out of incarceration.Victory Over Sin airs Saturdays at 12:30 pm. The Joy of a Sober Life: Experience Vibrant Wholeness + Health Through An Alcohol Free Life — with Christy Osborne

Wonderfully Made

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 7, 2026 41:21

That quiet nudge that whispers, maybe alcohol isn't serving me anymore—what if that feeling is an invitation? In this honest and grace-filled conversation, sobriety coach and author Christy Osborne shares her story of choosing sobriety and how it led her into a life she never imagined possible. You are not alone in your struggle, and freedom is closer than you think. Christy's relationship with alcohol looked nothing like what most people picture. She was a "normal drinker"—a sorority girl, a law student, building a beautiful life in London. But over the years, alcohol quietly took on new jobs: social lubricant, stress reliever, coping mechanism. After the devastating loss of her mother—who passed away from alcohol-related illness—Christy found herself masking her grief behind a glamorous Instagram feed and a glass of champagne. On the second anniversary of her mother's death, everything changed. Christy shares what God taught her through that breaking point, how she discovered the science behind why alcohol hijacks our brains and our bodies, and why she now believes that sobriety isn't a loss—it's the greatest gift she's ever given herself. She is the author of Love Life Sober, a 40-day alcohol fast rooted in Scripture, neuroscience, and practical coaching that has helped women in the US and UK renew their minds and rediscover joy. We talk honestly about the ways alcohol quietly creeps into everyday life, why moderation is so much harder than we think, and how the lie that "sober life is boring" keeps so many women stuck. Christy also shares the simple mindset shift that changes everything: approaching sobriety with curiosity instead of fear. Host Allie Marie Smith also opens up about her own decision at 21—a moment she credits as God-given wisdom—to push a glass of wine away and never look back, and how that one choice spared her from a path of real heartache. If you've ever felt that little nudge, if you've tried to cut back and can't, if you're tired of the anxiety and the regret, or if you simply wonder whether there's more for you on the other side of alcohol—this episode is your gentle invitation to find out. There is no judgment here. There is no condemnation here. God wants you well—spiritually, mentally, and physically—and this conversation is a reminder that you are not alone, and that a freer, fuller life is possible. Real Sober Mom Danielle couldn't imagine a life without alcohol. Though alcohol didn't play a large role in her upbringing in the Congo with her missionary family, it slowly began to creep into her life after the death of her grandmother who she'd been taking care of in her early 20s in Colorado. Alcohol showed up for Danielle in her grief, and from that point she began to really love the way it made her feel.Drinking was the norm at the school Danielle began to teach at, which cemented it even more deeply into her lifestyle. More and more each year, she leaned on it to get herself through the grief of a miscarriage and the consistent challenges of being a teacher. Danielle knew she needed to quit, but she had no clue what a positive sober life could look like. It wasn't until she found this podcast that she began to hear stories of women who actually loved their sober lives. After the loss of a close friend this past summer, Danielle knew it was time to quit. So, she began to search for the joy in sobriety. From overcoming a 20-year probation sentence to breaking free from the generational cycle of addiction, Hakeem shares how he transformed personal pain into purpose. He's spoken in every kind of space imaginable, from Bronx classrooms to corporate boardrooms, with one consistent message: you have to choose yourself to be chosen. Hakeem's journey is a masterclass in building a balanced life. This process, which helped him turn his own struggles into strengths, is what he now teaches others. He believes that your story isn't your shame—it's your superpower. In a candid interview, Hakeem reveals the pivotal moments that shaped his resilience, including growing up with a single mother who struggled with addiction and the tragic loss of his brother at age 16. He discusses quitting sports and a full-ride scholarship, learning the hard way about the importance of grieving, and how he went from a college dropout to a proud graduate. Now the founder of Choose Yourself LLC, he's on a mission to help people embrace their authenticity and build their mind, body, and brand.
