Victory Over Sin

Ben Fuhriman is a lifelong Idahoan who believes in hard work, family, and service. Born and raised in Ammon, Ben learned early what it means to roll up his sleeves and get things done. As a kid, his dad wouldn't let him go play until he'd filled a bucket with rocks from the garden—so Ben convinced his friends to help. Even then, he understood that teamwork and leadership go hand in hand.That work ethic carried him through life. An Eagle Scout, Hillcrest High School valedictorian, and a “Do it. Do it right. Do it right now.” kind of guy, Ben has always been driven to solve problems and help others succeed. He worked his way through school, served a two-year mission in Brazil, earned his bachelor's degree from BYU-Idaho, and a master's degree in family financial planning from Montana State University. He and his wife, Holli, met on the campaign trail while they were students at BYU-Idaho. Today, they live in Shelley with their four kids—all proud Idaho students.Professionally, Ben is a Certified Financial Planner™, Accredited Financial Counselor™, and Behavioral Financial Advisor™. She volunteers with the youth, teaching them their lives have purpose in Christ. She meets with two prison ministries and encourages the volunteers in bringing healing, wholeness, transparency, and love. She has spoken at the Wisconsin Women's Resource Center & Marquette University regarding her journey through an abusive relationship, and the criminal “justice” system. Her life was transformed as she began to find her worth in the sacrifice of Christ and by others who consistently volunteered their time and spoke life into her. She continues to stay connected with the women who are in, and reentering, providing peer support and advocacy. Jessica is working towards a Master's Degree in counseling to further her advocacy for humanity, spreading the truth “all people have equal value.” Today Jessica has a testimony of triumph as she continues to use the hardships of her past to help others. She has a progressive vision of wiser, more cost-effective ways to rehabilitate hurting and broken people. Bree Derrick, DirectorAs the director of the Idaho Department of Correction, Bree takes a purpose-driven approach to implementing operational changes that enhance public safety outcomes for Idahoans. Bree has served as the IDOC deputy director since 2019 and has played an instrumental role in the department's rise as a national model for correctional systems. She has overseen the divisions of probation and parole, prisons, and management services. Derrick led the department's staffing efforts, generating national recognition for industry best practices in recruitment and retention. With over 20 years of experience in corrections and behavioral health systems, Bree is nationally recognized for her expertise in evidence-based practices and crime reduction strategies.Before joining IDOC, Bree worked at the Justice Center. While at the Justice Center, she assisted more than a dozen state correctional agencies in planning and implementing large-scale efforts to instill correctional best practices. Bree began her career with the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, later working at a private psychiatric hospital and the Rhode Island Department of Corrections. During her 10 years with RIDOC, she held roles as a researcher and mental health clinician.Bree is a licensed mental health counselor with a master's degree in counseling and a certificate of advanced graduate study in mental health counseling.
