The Cycling Podcast is currently on a theatre tour but Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie, François Thomazeau and Orla Chennaoui recorded this week's episode a few hours before taking to the stage at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall. They discuss the latest developments in the General Medical Council's hearing into former Team Sky and British Cycling doctor Richard Freeman, and Shane Sutton's extraordinary appearance before he stormed out. We also hear from The Telegraph's Tom Cary, who has been at the hearing. François reflects on the death of Raymond Poulidor, who finished on the podium at the Tour de France eight times without ever winning the race or even pulling on the yellow jersey. Poulidor's grandson is Mathieu van der Poel and so his legacy lives on in the peloton but how will France remember the man they nicknamed the Eternal Second? The Cycling Podcast is supported by Rapha and Science In Sport.
This week's show opens with a remembrance of Raymond Poulidor, who passed away this week. Then, we dive headfirst into the tribunal of Richard Freeman and the sordid testimony this week of Shane Sutton. In this week's Nerd Alert, we discuss mandatory helmet laws and a patent for a Shimano gearbox.
On this week's show Scott & John discuss Dr. Richard Freeman's medical tribunal getting underway with some astonishing accusations surrounding Shane Sutton, the Tour of California on hiatus, Filippo Ganna's record breaking Individual Pursuit, Sam Bennett’s saga finally drawing to a close, and it’s knives out in the battle between the UCI and Velon.Click to view: show page on Awesound
