South African consumers have been cautioned not to over endebt themselves as the 2025 festive season purchases begin. This as millions of consumers continue to grapple with the country's high cost of living and record-high unemployment levels. Earlier this year, credit solutions company, Debt Rescue South Africa, found that the situation has seen some South Africans forced to cut back on food to in order to keep the lights on. The company's Chief Operations Officer, Annaline van der Poel has emphasised that clear budgeting may assist as disposable income and household finances continue to shrink. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For this month's Reviewing the News Episode, Mike and I start with a topic that hits close to home: we both know extremely fit people who have passed away recently while riding their bikes. So, today we talk about how it's common for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease to go undiagnosed, especially in athletes, and what you can do, and should do, to protect yourself. Plus, we just had a fantastic, wet, and muddy weekend of racing in Les Gets, France, which gives us plenty to go on about, like the amazing Alran brothers, Gracy Hemstreet looking unbeatable, Ronan Dunne's comeback, and road superstar Mathieu van der Poel getting back on the mountain bike for another crack at World Cup XCO, and more.RELATED LINKS:The Grimy HandshakeBlister Mountain Bike Buyer's GuideGet Our Free Newsletter & Gear GiveawaysBLISTER+ Get Yourself CoveredTOPICS & TIMES:Mike's Grimy Handshake (3:26)Heart Disease in Athletes (13:52)Les Gets Mud Bath (26:29)You Need Skills to Win (33:54)The Amazing Alran Brothers (39:24)Can Durango Kid Asa Veremette Ride in Mud (41:15)Ronan Dunne Didn't Leave in a Helicopter (43:57)Specialized's Most Expensive Bike Ever (49:42)What We're Reading & Watching (56:43)CHECK OUT OUR OTHER PODCASTS:Blister CinematicCRAFTEDGEAR:30Blister Podcast Hosted on Acast. Lance, George, Sir Bradley Wiggins, and Spencer Martin (aka “The Professor”) break down Valentin Paret-Peintre's impressive ride to win atop the iconic Mont Ventoux summit finish, holding off a persistent Ben Healy and the fast-closing GC duo of Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard. They discuss how Paret-Peintre and his Soudal–QuickStep team leveraged their combined strength to secure the first French stage win of this Tour, what Vingegaard's resurgent climbing form means for the GC battle, and how Mathieu van der Poel's rest-day withdrawal and Jonathan Milan's failure to score at the intermediate sprint impact the Green Jersey competition. Before signing off, they take a few listener questions and preview what awaits the peloton on tomorrow's stage. Zwift: Zwift just made it easier than ever to get on the virtual roads. Lance, George, Sir Bradley Wiggins, and Spencer Martin (aka The Professor) break down Jonas Abrahamsen's incredible ride to win Stage 11 of the 2025 Tour de France after forming and driving the day's early breakaway, and outfoxing Mauro Schmid while holding off a furious chase from Mathieu van der Poel in the race's final kilometers. They also discuss Visma's continued efforts to make the race hard, including a late attack from Jonas Vingegaard, and Tadej Pogačar's late crash, which sparked debate about whether the GC contenders should have sat up and waited—and if the incident gives Pogačar's rivals a glimmer of hope as the race enters its first key high mountain stages tomorrow in the Pyrenees. Lance, George, Sir Bradley Wiggins, and Spencer Martin break down an intriguing day at the Tour de France, which saw Tim Merlier win a tough sprint ahead of Jonathan Milan to claim his second stage victory of this Tour, after Mathieu van der Poel's day-long breakaway was brought to heel inside the final few hundred meters. They discuss the potential reasons for Alpecin–Deceuninck sending two riders into an incredibly taxing early breakaway, why Visma–Lease a Bike continues to burn matches to make the race as hard as possible, the massive prize money disparity between the Tour de France and other marquee sporting events like Wimbledon, and what could be done to level the playing field, before previewing tomorrow's brutal stage, which will see the battle for the GC shift back into high gear. Lance, George, and Sir Bradley Wiggins break down the second stage of the 2025 Tour de France, which produced a thrilling showdown between Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel for the stage win, and yet again created gaps amongst the top GC contenders. They discuss Van der Poel's impressive victory, which allowed his Alpecin team to hold onto the Yellow Jersey, if the stage showed us any potential gulf between Pogačar and Vingegaard, and what to expect on tomorrow's stage across the wind-exposed roads of northern France.
