Governing in Crisis

The separation of politics and criminal law enforcement has long been viewed as a critical feature of our American system of governance. Beginning with the 2016 presidential campaign and its cries of “lock her up” directed at the opposing candidate, there have been questions about the extent to which the current administration would respect that separation or, instead, would move the country away from its fundamental commitment to the rule of law. Those concerns have grown in intensity because of actions by the President and Attorney General in characterizing the Mueller report before its release to the public; seeking the reduction of criminal penalties, supporting the withdrawal of guilty pleas, and exercising pardon and commutation powers to benefit friends and allies of the President; the launching of an investigation with the apparent intent to impact the upcoming election; and the labeling of certain communities as “anarchist cities” as a step toward cutting back on federal financial support. Building on his extraordinary career in federal law enforcement, Chuck Rosenberg, who has held a series of high-ranking positions in the U.S. Department of Justice, including the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and who is a widely respected legal analyst, offers his perspectives on this important issue.

Heather Iannucci and her family recognized in 1993 that their collection of animals was of interest to children and many adults as well, so they formed the Two by Two Zoo to be a traveling petting experience. Soon they began to acquire other animals, often pets that their owners could no longer care for, but also animals rescued by agencies such as the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA), which also registers the traveling zoo. Today the zoo is run by Heather and her daughter Jennifer (Mr. Iannucci works at a regular job) and concentrates on providing petting experiences as schools, libraries, and similar institutions in the Hudson Valley. For the RadioRotary interview, Mrs. Iannucci was accompanied by Sydney, a young kangaroo who said little during the program. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/radiorotary/support

There was a big announcement made in the last few days. This affects many mothers and children.  I believe the decision I am going to talk about is in the best interest of mothers and children and yet there is controversy surrounding it.  I find that what is usually lying beneath controversy is FEAR.   So, let's get into it.  What was this announcement anyway   Have you heard of the WIC program.  It stands for Womans, Infants and Children. healthcare referrals for income-eligible women who are pregnant or post-partum, infants, and children up to age 5.   It  is a federal public health nutrition program administered by the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA),  The National WIC Association (NWA) is a non-profit membership association that advocates for WIC and provides education and training to WIC staff. NWA does not create WIC policy or have oversight of WIC. NWA recently had a Nutrition Education and Breastfeeding Promotion Conference here they made a pretty big announcement.
