It's the topic almost synonymous with electric vehicles themselves – the environment – but are EVs really as beneficial as we think? To help simplify the science, Nadine and Rusty sit down with Dr Karl Kruzeniski, to debunk some of the most common myths about how green our EVs seem. Our meet an EV-er joins us from the driver's seat of his BYD Atto 3 and we meet Wiebe Wakker, the Dutchman who drove from the Netherlands to Sydney in 2019 to promote sustainability, although it didn't exactly start that way. Dubbed the ‘Forrest Gump' of electric mobility, Wiebe tells us about the triumphs and challenges of the trip, one that involved leveraging a tailwind to extend his range into Coober Pedy… tune in to find out if he made it! This week Paul talks with Wiebe Wakker, sustainable adventurer about his three-year trip from the Netherlands to Australia in an EV--with no money--and then how he traveled from the Netherlands to Dubai (most) on public transport to give a keynote speech at UITP MENA earlier this year. It's a fascinating story of someone who admits wasn't really into sustainability when he started but has now become a champion for it. Charlotte Shaw, CEO of Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority, has deep experience in getting things done. From project and program management to capital planning, Charlotte is the person who makes a transit vision a reality. After years at MARTA, she came to Birmingham to manage building a bus rapid transit (BRT) for the city before it would be handed over to BJCTA. But as she tells Paul, the transit authority thought she'd be just the right person to bring BJCTA into a new era of transit. Listen to Charlotte tell Paul how she got into transit and her vision for creating a transit system that does more than just get people places. Next week on Transit Unplugged News and Views, Paul is talking with Wiebe Wakker who drove an electric car from the Netherlands to New Zealand to show how efficient and reliable EVs are. How can we travel adventurously while still being sustainable? I'm a huge fan of exploring, but I'm also very conscious of my environmental footprint. On this episode, I'm speaking to Sustainable Adventurer Wiebe Wakker. He's a Dutchman who likes exploring the world in an environmentally friendly ways.Wiebe came to my attention earlier this year when we went from Amsterdam to Dubai by train for an environmental conference. That wasn't his first adventure. He'd previously spent 3.5 years travelling from The Netherlands to New Zealand by electric car. That journey means that Wiebe holds the current world record for completing the longest ever electric car trip in the world covering a distance of about 95,000 kilometres. In our discussion, we explore what inspires Wiebe to undertake his adventures, what he's learned from doing it and I explain how he's influenced me.To find out more about Wiebe, visit his website: https://plugmeinproject.com/You'll find him on social media:Twitter - https://twitter.com/wiebewkkr?lang=enInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/plugmeintravel/?hl=enLinkedIn - https://nl.linkedin.com/in/wiebewakkerDuring our discussion, we talk about:Seat61.com - an amazing website for planning train adventures

It was a full house in Studio this week for Theo and Dee, with our old friend Gavin Shoebridge and the international EV living (humble) legend Wiebe Wakker. Plus, WSJ's automotive reporter Tim Higgins explains how tech companies are trying to claim new territory: the dashboard of your car. Then, Wiebe Wakker tells David about completing the world's longest electric car journey, making it from the Netherlands to Australia with nothing but the help of strangers (and electricity) along the way.

Wiebe Wakker is a rare type of person, one you don't encounter very often, and who you might think doesn't exist anymore. Wiebe's an adventurer. But he's not off pillaging foreign lands or taking part in destructive activities in the name of fun. He's travelled around the world, in a ten year old electric car, to bring attention to the practicality of EV's. This is the 50th episode of Climactic, and Wiebe's story is a great way to mark our half-century. It's fun, inspiring, informative, and a bit of a palate cleanser from the heavy topics we talk about. This won't be a permanent change, but this was so much fun, and we're so happy to bring you this story. We're currently looking at ways to further develop the show, and Climactic as a social enterprise, as we start year 2, and we'd love your feedback. Drop us an email or say hi on Facebook, won't you? Climactic celebrates it's half-century with a fun, fascinating chat with Wiebe, a young man from the Netherlands who travelled through thirty-three countries in a decade-old electric car, using only the generousity of others.

Waar is Wiebe nu?
On this episode, Cyrus talks to Plug Me In project's Wiebe Wakker, who opens up about: How he plans to reach Australia without any money or food.
